The fourth guy is known as "dancing Tony" he just jumped up on stage one day and started dancing. The members of Nirvana thought it was cool and let him continue.
Nope. He was a friend of the uk tour manager and picked nirvana up from the airport as a favour. Became friendly with the band and was dared to dance on stage, probably late 1990, well before fame, and either of the reading gigs. He’s on stage with them in Leeds in 1990. It’s on UA-cam.
Watching this performance as a first listen to a song definitely takes some context. The band spent most of this concert joking with the audience by purposefully playing certain songs at wrong tempos/keys, or in this case started playing "More than a Feeling" by Boston before playing the actual song bc Kurt always thought they sounded too similar.
No one should beat you up over anything! You're genuine and honest and that's exactly what I want in reactors. I caught the tail end of Gen X, so Nirvana is part of my life. What you should know about this particular performance is that they were playing around, hard, starting by playing a song that sounded like theirs just to trick the audience, and purposely botching the guitar playing and singing strangely, and it was beautiful, unable to hide their smiles and smirks. Simply put, they were having fun, and that's why this performance is special.
They started with “More than a feeling “ because they were accused of ripping off Boston’s hit. So in typical Kurt fashion he did this as a big middle finger to the haters.
If you haven't seen it yet check out Weird Al - Smells like Nirvana. It's a parody of this song by the parody master himself and Kurt Cobain himself said he loved Weird Al's parody.
Hi Ladies. The title of the song came from Kathleen Hanna from the band Bikini Kill. She wrote “Kurt smells like Teen Spirit” on his hotel room wall in reference to the deodorant brand "Teen Spirit" that Kurt's girlfriend at the time was using.
They do alot of classic rock homage like the "more than feeling" opening here. Their last show they opened up with The Cars song "my best girl". At the beginning of another song called Territorial Pissings starts off "come on people now, smile on your brother and get together and love one another right now" which is an old 60s song i cant recall the name of it. They all switched instruments and played "Seasons in the Sun" one time. They started out the band playing Led Zeppelin and Credence Clearwater Revival covers.
Got some albums of them. Great band. RIP Kurt Corbain, died to young. The Unplugged album is also great. Think about it, the band was for a long time three man big. The guitar, the base and the drums and still sounding great.
Yes, the Unplugged album is great. Especially of note is Kurt's cover of In the Pines. Kurt intros the song by talking about one of his heroes, Lead Belly (Huddie Ledbetter), one of the great bluesman and guitarists from the 1930s and 40s. In the Pines was one of the songs in Lead Belly's catalog. Kurt really demonstrated his range on this song. Bye.
It sounds like you ladies are digging Nirvana and Kurts voice, this concert isn't the best representation of what his voice could/ and did. If you listen to the audio version you'll hear multiple vocal tracks so it's fuller. But.... I know there's better versions of this song live somewhere on you tube. Either way please try to listen to Breed, or come as you are, or heart shaped box, or anything from unplugged in new York, like about a girl, where did you sleep last night, all apologies, there's so many other songs that really show Kurts voice in a better quality of that makes sense? Glad to see y'all like Nirvana they really were such a huge change for the better in the music world and in the generation as a whole. ❤
You can date videos by the chair Donna is sitting in. Loved how Donna took to Judas Priest. They have many nice songs & a sweet cover to Diamonds & Rust.
You should listen to their live performance of Drain You in February 1994 in Paris on the show “Nulles part ailleurs “ kurt’s guitar stops working and makes the most awesome scream 🤘
Just an fyi at the beginning he’s playing more than a feeling by Boston because everyone kept bashing them for stealing Bostons riff. Also when it seems like Kurts messing up at around 3:10 or so it’s because he’s doing it purposefully because he didn’t like playing the song very much after how popular it got. He’s just messing with the crowd and their bassist Krist knows it and cracks a little smile. Great reaction!
LOL Trouble with staying up till midnight to catch new reactions is you press cancel instead of comment when submitting your comment. And then can't remember what you wrote. Love the reaction. Before my time but my parents (mostly father) believe that Nevermind is the greatest album ever and Nirvana one of the most influential bands. ~ Tabitha
To grandma, don't listen to anyone who judges you because you don't know how big they were. You're still very nice and respectful. Nirvana in my generation was the closest thing to the Beatles we had. Love you both
Nirvana was jokingly playing "More Than a Feeling" at the start of the song because both songs use the same chords, they're just strummed differently for the most part. They also hated playing this song, because it was the one that made them famous and they didn't like that many people thought it was their "only song". They proved their worth in the long run. That said, react to "Where Did You Sleep Last Night" - Unplugged next. I think you'll truly appreciate that one.
Texas born here I remeber when they started playing this all the time on the radio I lived them however they play it on the radio till you puke. I was a big grunge fan.
Or to punish them. For the buenos aires gig they didnt play this song ..their biggest hit .... the opening act babes in toyland was booed of stage and things were thrown. So the band just teased the song a few times but didnt play it. The song more or less everyone was waiting for....
You know, you really haven't heard the song Smells Like Teen Spirit until you hear the legendary Paul Anka's performance. Now there you will have a reaction.
This is the anthem for "Generation X" and easily one of the greatest Grunge hits of all time, but you might want to try the official video and not the live performance to get the best first impression of the band.
If you were to listen to the studio version of this song you might appreciate it a little more, this was a pretty sloppy performance, but then again, it is Grunge. I did buy the Nevermind CD when this song became popular, it was the start of the Grunge movement back in the 90's. The Drummer is Dave Grohl, he went on to form the Foo Fighters, he now plays Guitar and sings.
Yo you guys will probably love there Unplugged performance of Where Did You Sleep Last Night. Also are you guys fans of Townes Van Zandt? One of the best songwriter's. He's folk/blues/old school country.
They eventually added guitarist Pat Smear, ex of the Germs, who they'd liked, and after Kurt's death, drummer Dave Grohl also eventually added Pat to his follow up project Foo Fighters. Bye!! 👋🏼😅🎶❤✨️🕊
My favorite band ever I thought everyone knew who Nirvana was and Kurt Cobain their drummer is the lead singer of the Foo fightes Dave grohl watch the documentary soaked in bleach about Kurt Cobain
Kurt was so high on cocaine during the tours they did this era, this was recorded at Live at reading in 1992, that 4th guy jumping on stage is named Antony Hodgkinson and he danced on stage with the band a couple of times at Live at reading 1991 and 1992, it was not just a random guy from the audience. Sadly Kurt got more and more problems with drugs during this time and he escaped from rehab in 1994 and a few days later he took an overdose and someone put a shotgun barrel in he's mouth and pulled the trigger. It was he´s shotgun but some think it was not possible for him to do it by him self because of the overdose he had in he´s blood, you know once it comes in you system its just a matter of seconds before you are high as sh*t. It was tragic, I was a huge Nirvana fan back then. Thanks for the reaction :D
Love the studio version of this song, but not feeling this live performance. Grohl sounds great, as usual, but the rest of them sound like they did too much partying backstage before the performance.
People that don’t like this performance don’t get Nirvana. Kurt was sick of this song and rarely performed it on the In Utero tour. He loved messing songs up. There’s a version of Come As You Are where all he sings is Hey Hey Hey Hey. Kurt took purposefully sloppy to another level. The joke was on you.
can y"all do "COME AS YOU ARE" AND LITHIM HEART SHAPED BOX AND YOU KNO YOUR RIGHT PLSE whethr you wern"t around then it was the ninties most of us were teenagers slackers and when smells like teen spirit came on mtv it was like a breath of fresh air no more "hair metal" bands like motley crue< poison def leppard ratt list etc they all took it personal like who the hell are these "nobodies from seattle doing?" yes the music was dark yes kurt had severe deprssion and yes he was an for your daughters respect lets say he liked to experment with thngs he didn"t need i"ll give you a hint what do diabetics use while injecting their insulin? i"m a diabetic i say this out of respect for the three of you because i am respectful i just discovered your channel and i don"t want lola hearing or reading what shes too young for kurt has a tortured soul but his music spoke still speaks volumes after thirty plus years their will NVR ever be a band or songwriter on this earth that can hold a candle to him we lost him thirty years ago on april fifth his body wasn"t discovered until april eighth rip kurt donald cobain and thank you very much for this its good to see different generations come united and together god bless
If it was this specific performace of this song that was requested then sure... a strange choice but ok. However, the studio version is a million times better. This is so bad that, even though i think i Nirvana are the greatest band of all time, i dont want to listen to this and am bailing out less than 4 mins into it, sorry.
they didn0t like this song.. when they came to Argenina, they brought a female band as an opener, the crowd didnt like that.... so they took it personally to offend that band, and then Nirvana played one of their ugliest shows.. a shame.. because if you UA-cam Argentina best crowd, you would see the people from Argentina was the best crowd ever

Thanks for letting us know.
Nirvana met Tony the previous year at reading and invited him back the next year

"I feel stupid and contageous." Great line!
Come as you are by Nirvana is another big hit for the band has 500m views on UA-cam and is a great song as well.
If you haven't seen it yet check out Weird Al - Smells like Nirvana. It's a parody of this song by the parody master himself and Kurt Cobain himself said he loved Weird Al's parody.
2Cellos also do a wicked, live cover of this in Sydney Opera House
My favorite band ever!! I would never expect anyone to know who dancing Tony is 😁
This was going on at the same time mama was listening to Achy Breaky Heart 😊

There is an official video to this song.

Kurt was high and sometimes tease people playing shit😂

You know, you really haven't heard the song Smells Like Teen Spirit until you hear the legendary Paul Anka's performance. Now there you will have a reaction.
Since you love country, you would like to hear the unplugged performance of Nirvana - The man who sold the world
You guys need to watch the unplugged show
Ashley again! Paying to hear folks listen to Nirvana. I wonder if OF girls get this kind of request?
y'all should watch lithium 1992 vma's nirvana, or just lithium by nirvana, the 1992 video music award is their best preformance of it tho!
This is the anthem for "Generation X" and easily one of the greatest Grunge hits of all time, but you might want to try the official video and not the live performance to get the best first impression of the band.

Kurt started playing a different song at the beginning as a joke.
I liked the reaction ladies "minus one". LOL Donna, no need to apologize for not knowing a song, nobody knows them all.

Almost everything you've said is inaccurate.....are you on drugs?
He did it himself. It's possible with the tolerance he had. I know junkies. Not one, just know them.

Nice reaction when you get a chance check out W.A.S.P. I Wanna Be Somebody .
Love the studio version of this song, but not feeling this live performance. Grohl sounds great, as usual, but the rest of them sound like they did too much partying backstage before the performance.
Kurt obviously didnt give a fuck about it being the same song. Good on him! Must have been so bored pkaying it.

The video version is far better than this out of tune version , Nirvana are not good live unless its acoustic
they didn0t like this song.. when they came to Argenina, they brought a female band as an opener, the crowd didnt like that.... so they took it personally to offend that band, and then Nirvana played one of their ugliest shows.. a shame.. because if you UA-cam Argentina best crowd, you would see the people from Argentina was the best crowd ever
A disgusting version of a very good song. Instead of a guitar solo, it's a cacaphony.
the first part they were doin was bostons "more than a feeling" cause back then people said smells like teen spirit was a rip off of bostons more than a feelin
