And I was there, in that late 80's and early 90's scene in SoCal, I hailed from Huntington Beach, back in the day, I lived block off PCH on 4th street, back before the condos when it was still beach bungalow houses. I had friends in a surf punk band called Side Dog, we met while surfing, I and another friend. we became their roadies and hung with them in the Hollywood night club scene. We had gigs in all the most famous Hollywood clubs, like The Whisky Go-go, Coconut Teasers, and others I can't remember atm. Heady days of sex, drugs and rock and roll. I even met Slash and bought him a drink at the bar above Coconut Teasers, a downstairs club, him wearing his iconic sun glasses and top hat and leather jacket as always. I was wearing a matching classic biker's leather jacket too, both of wearing white wife-beaters under the leather too, and both wearing bandanas around our legs over the jeans, IIRC I think it was actually Gun's & Roses who created the bandanas around the legs rock fashion. which he complimented me for my good taste in wardrobe, we chatted for five or ten, just two guys engaged in a bit of small talk, no fan fawning and I didn't even ask for an autograph and it was before smart phones and selfies. I did get layed that night by a Betty in leather that noticed me chatting with Slash and thought we were friends and I didn't deny it. (So thank you for that unintentional favor Slash, if you are out there! I'm sure you don't remember me at all. But you were very cool to a nobody, regardless of a free drink, and you treated me as an equal, just man to man. Of course I was also a cool character treating you as a regular guy instead of acting like some crazed fan, so maybe that was why. Still you are a cool cat for that! We were both very intoxicated too of course, luckily I am not one to forget, even if I am drunk or stoned, or both.) I also met and chatted with the entire band Motorhead at the pizza joint, that IIRC, was below one of the night clubs, maybe the Whiskey? Again, just interacting on the regular man to men level, even admitting that I'd never heard any of their music, at that time (my buddy pointed out who they were to me), and they suggested I give them a chance and I promised I would, and did, and they are another favorite band of mine now. Motorhead, my friend, and his band Side Dog and I were all wasted at the time with pizza munchies and it was around 2-3 AM. Side Dog were all to scared to bother Motorhead, but I wasn't going to pass up meeting them, even if I never listened to them, I knew of them. After a minute I went back to our booth, but then we all chatted with each other from across the pizza parlor, quite loudly, but we were the only ones in the place too. I saw Sublime play, but never got the chance to meet them in person, this was before they were famous though, but playing some songs that would be on their debut album later.
This is funny. I have some friends with that last name, and they didn't even know that until they were in their 40's lol. I didn't know this until about 6 months ago!
So some info about sublime. The original singer passed away, and before he passed, he brought a baby boy into this world. The band members always kept the son around and he got involved in music, forming his own band. Eventually, he joined sublime in place of his father and he truly sounds extremely similar to his father, and I really really want to see sublime in concert. I think they are truly amazing and his son is outstanding
Came to say this. I have really enjoyed him playing with them. Feels right. So sad Bradley missed out on their fame. This song is just a summer vibe for me.
Sublime has a permanent place in my ❤ 🙌🏽 Not a bad song on 40 oz to Freedom, their debut album. I can still sing all the words to every song, and I'm a 68 yr old Nana, lol. RIP Bradley Nowell. Gone too soon 💔
Yeah, I kinda hate the channels that spend the first half of the video doing research. Do that after the reaction, we’re here to see how you react to the song. 👍
There was one summer in the 90’s that ska blew up and then kinda disappeared again. Both Sublime and No Doubt came from that era in Southern California. Check out The Mighty Mighty Bosstones song The Impression That I Get. Same era but from Boston.
Rockabilly came and went again a few years later in SoCal, in the same fashion, like the Pacific tide. I was working the door at a bar called Taxi's in Huntington Beach at the time and we had rockabilly bands, and classic style surfer bands playing there constantly in '96/97. I still have a hand written label demo cassette tape from a surfer rock band that played at the bar named Monster Zero.
Sublime is still a regular part of my musical line-up, all these years later. My neighbours probably don't like hearing my kids and I screaming every lyric to every Sublime song at the top of our lungs, but no fucks given! 😂
2 things. First: Sublime NEVER made a bad song. Second: Bradley, the singer, never got to see the success and impact his music made. He passed before this album was released Third. Sublime recently reunited, this time with Bradleys son singing and playing guitar 😍😍
Badfish, Pawn Shop, Date Rape, Smoke 2 Joints, DJs, New Realization, the list is long on what I would recommend. One of the great soundtracks to my teens.
Yes, they sound like this for most of their songs because there are a limited amount of them. My favorites by them: Doin' Time, What I Got, Burritos, Wrong Way Heina = girlfriend Sancho = guy who takes your girlfriend Dalmation Dog = Lou Dog Ghost= Bradley, the singer who died before they could make any videos. Owner of Lou Dog.
I was a teen in So Cal in the 90's and this song reminds me of driving around with my friends, singing along with the windows down, palm trees in the breeze. Good memories.
"I don't practice Santaria, I ain't got no crystal ball; I had a million dollars, but I... I spent it all." Not a huge Sublime fan, but this has to be one of my absolute favorite lyrics of any song I've heard.
San-tah-ree-ah Another great reaction. Love your journey bro, keep it up and we're all along for the ride with you. Be Kind And Rewind as many times as you want. We don't mind.

I have a Sublime playlist that I play nonstop. Has led me to top 0.19% listeners of Sublime on Spotify 2 yrs running. So many fire songs in such a short time.
So glad you are here for this, Sublime are simply put, sublime. They had a wide variety of topics they discussed from starting your daily routine in the cover of The Toyes song "Smoke Two Joints", Spiritual mysticism in the song you just listened to "Santeria", abuse and exploitation in songs like "Wrong Way" and "Date R@pe", as well as joining the LA Riot's in the song "April 29th1992." They had an honest take on many things with a great level of whimsy throughout producing a number of really great tunes despite only having a few albums before the band broke up and tragedy struck as a heroin overdose took the life of lead Bradley Noel at the age of 28. Other great songs include "What I Got", "Doin Time" (which was given new life when covered by Lana Del Ray in 2019), "We're Only Going To Die (For Our Own Arrogance)", "Scarlet Begonias", "Slow Ride", "Bad Fish", and "Pawn Shop" to name a few. Gwen Stefani and Bradley were friends and collaborated on the track "Saw Red" - Link form Sublime official - "Saw Red" - ua-cam.com/video/YSXoKqjhFrw/v-deo.htmlsi=RTTPYVTNkd2KDz5o A personal favorite of mine; they also did a cover of the Hanna Barbara theme song to the cartoon "Hong Kong Phooey" which is a light and fun jam song that has no business going as hard as it does for a 1970's cartoon theme. - Link form Sublime official - "Hong Kong Phooey" ua-cam.com/video/gz-kWEkazKg/v-deo.htmlsi=E0YMPFzVlb8WJMKY There is also a great song based on another Hanna Barbara cartoon "Secret Squirrel" from the alternative post grunge era band Marcy Playground most well known for their song "Sex and Candy" which spent 15 weeks at #1 on the billboard's modern rock charts. Another fav of theirs is a song called "Our Generation." FYI: the song "Sex and Candy" might get you decent views but the others probably won't do as well. Thanks for the dive into Sublime. Can't wait to see more. And some back story on Lou Dog the Dalmatian who provides some vocals on the Sublime track "Waiting For My Ruca." In February 1990, Nowell purchased a Dalmatian puppy from an old man for $500, and named him "Louie" after his grandfather. Also referred to as "Lou Dog", he became a mascot for the band Sublime. Lou Dog was often allowed to wander the stage during concert performances. Louie was also often featured on the cover of Sublime albums, and was referred to in the lyrics of Sublime songs.
I’m 56, bassist. One of my all-time fave songs. That bass line is epic. BTW, my three kiddos, ages 25, 20 and 18, absolutely LOVE Sublime. And we have a Dalmatian too. 😊

I was 19 when this came out in 96, oh what crazy times! this album along with their debut album 40 0z to freedom is fire from beginning to end. This self titled album is what put them over the top. Unfortunately it was released 2 months after Bradley's death. Love your reaction channel .

Buddy 😂 i love that you are totally digging all this music, every band has a story too which is so neat, but also sad at times, like Bradley Nowell passing and like Kurt Cobain and ya know all those sorts of things are sad, but the music hits so hard. A few modest suggestions from sublime: Garden Grove What I got Wrong way April 26, 1992 Same in the end Caress me down 40oz to freedom Smoke two joints Date rape And "I saw red" featuring Gwen Stefani
Sublime is the perfect band to chill to. I'm not even a smoker, but I would put on Sublime and feel relaxed. Such a chill feel. Definitely check out Wrong Way, What I Got, and Pawn Shop.
I love seeing this younger generation discover all the old music that we grew up with. Now they know how we can be so up beat, chill and fun loving, yet still no nonsense and ready to rock when the moment comes. Keep it up man, Sublime Is an all time great band.
I believe the "break" in his voice, as you describe, based on how he is (mostly) using the technique in this song, is called "vocal cry." It's primarily used to convey emotion(s), release tension in the voice and allow easier transitions to their upper register. Hope that helps
This music is the reason I made my friends at uni. I was playing it in my room in halls and a girl knocked on the door and asked if we could be friends!
It is so much fun watching you discover all the great music that is out there. Love your channel. Santeria will get stuck in your head. It still does for me after all these years.
I’m so glad you found Sublime. I love watching your reactions and Sublime is my “Happy Music”. Anytime I’m down I listen to Sublime and it makes me happy. “The Ballad of Johnny Butt” is my favorite go to Sublime song.
Yes! I can't wait for you to do "What I Got"! It's unfortunate the singer died so young, who knows what other great music they might have put out. But we have these!
Just found out today that my cancer is in remission. I don't say that for any other reason than to say The first video I see when I get on YT is This one. As an older (58) man who doesn't really give out my "subscribe" button to everyone I really do (A) like it when you do the reaction blind because (B) seeing your genuine reaction and see you feel like we did when we first heard the songs is what we appreciate. Just remember Genuine is always better than fake. Well done and I predict you'll be at 100k around Feb-Mar 25.
90s is the last time music was really diverse and creative. Everything became cookie cutter. Music is about to explode back to the diversity and creativity soon here. We go through periods of everything sounding the same, then another music revolution comes. We are due.
I love your reactions as they are. Your face lights up when you like something and you move with the music in a natural way. I love your rewinds too. We have all been there with music we love. You be you.

Sublime has entire albums of bangers, R.I.P. Bradley! Robbin the Hood, Sublime, Stand by your Van, there was another one who's name escapes me atm iirc, top 10 bands of all time for me!
The Sublime rabbit hole is a deep one for such a short career. So many great songs. Bradley Nowell was an amazing song writer. Their music always feels like summertime no matter when you play it! There were a lot of bands that adopted this sound after Sublime broke in the US. Unfortunately Bradley never got to see his success. RIP.
Smoke Two Joints, Garden Grove, What I Got. All Bangers.
date rape
Don’t forget Badfish
and Badfish, and Doin' Time, and Caress Me Down.
Yes all that but a big resounding YES for "Smoke 2 Joints". Should be everyone's theme song😂
And Pawn Shop!! Scarlett Begonias is great too
Sublime is SoCal surf punk, Ska, reggae and hip hop. ❤
Facts. It also would make more sense to our boy if he knew old (like, pre-Gwen) No Doubt. They were hardcore So-Cal Ska. ❤
Ska is sooo much FUN!!!! It really jams!! 🤘🏼🎶✌🏻❤️
Yeap bro this album is major hit! All songs are bangers - I love "April 26th 1992" - he should listen it entirely 10/10

This style is ska. Some others to check out are of No Doubt, Goldfinger, and Mighty Mighty Bosstones.
And English Beat 👍🔥
That "Mah baby" always hits.
I'm so stoked that you're starting with Sublime. One of my faves bro
Tragically short lived talent. Thanks for reacting. Edit: Another vote for reacting to Smoke Two Joints
Smoke 2 joints. Bruh, you done stepped in the right hole.
MOLLYBOY..I know I've commented a few times but Sublime's "saw red" featuring Gwen Stefani (live) is so badass ..it's short but it's hard AF
Bradley's vocals AND guitar playing is SO good. Sublime really did some great work, in a short period of time!
This album was one of the top 90's alternative rock albums. 10/10 masterpiece
Yes! I can't wait for you to do "What I Got"! It's unfortunate the singer died so young, who knows what other great music they might have put out. But we have these!
Bro a Sancho is a backdoor man, a Jody! A dude sneaking into your house and taking a fancy to your ole lady when you're not at home 😂
It's about trying to find the one girl who won't sneak around behind your back... Waiting for your ruca
Hey I'm a Jody 😂
Sublime is every single music style, and every sing style, in every song. Some songs will have 4-8 styles in one. TRULY GREAT
Sublime were unique, and had very catchy songs. Definitely worth a deeper dive.
Punk, Ska, Rap, Rock...a little bit of everything and all brilliant.
Amazing reaction bro, appreciate you taking me and my generation down memory lane. You can't go wrong with anything by this legendary band.🔥🔥
Sublime is legendary, every song on that album. Get ready to go down another rabbit hole!!
I’m soooo excited he’s entering this genre!! Yay!! This is my childhood🔥🔥🔥
💐💐💐💐
Congratulations on being in remission! 💪🏻
@@goosebump801 thank you
@@MollyBoyTV thank you
So many better sublime songs, cant wait to watch you dig into sublime.
90s is the last time music was really diverse and creative. Everything became cookie cutter. Music is about to explode back to the diversity and creativity soon here. We go through periods of everything sounding the same, then another music revolution comes. We are due.
React to Date Rape. It's the song that put them on the map.
Love Sublime ❤️🔥♥️ Awesome reaction!! Ty Molls ❤️🔥🤘
Go in blind little brother. I find he sense of wonder and amazement can be diluted by prior knowledge.
But you do you Declan.
Sublime missed me. I was raising my kids in the 90s. My first reaction too.
This band is one with a name that perfectly describes their music, SUBLIME.
One of the greatest bands of all time
This takes me back to the late 90s, rolling around in my car smoking joints with Sublime bumpin on the speakers 🔊 Good times.
Same in the end , Paddle out and Burritos are my favorite .
Something different from the hits.
The Album Sublime also ranks in my top 10.
Finally, another same in the end suggestion! One of my favs even if it isn't that deep of a cut.
I love your reactions as they are. Your face lights up when you like something and you move with the music in a natural way. I love your rewinds too. We have all been there with music we love. You be you.
I have never failed to get a bar bumping by putting this on the jukebox
Molly Boy it's so cool watching you enjoying Sublime that put a big smile.. you really love all kinds of music and that's just like The Music Man for life Keep up the great Reviews Molly Boy.. tight on dude..
Sublime has entire albums of bangers, R.I.P. Bradley!
Robbin the Hood, Sublime, Stand by your Van, there was another one who's name escapes me atm iirc, top 10 bands of all time for me!
Sublime is Reggae influenced rock and roll in a lot of their music.
So you should listen to their cover of Smoke Two Joints by Bob Marley.
Um….it’s actually by a band called The Toyes, from Oregon, who formed in the early 80’s
Based on Reggae music from Jamaica and the Caribbean
The Sublime rabbit hole is a deep one for such a short career. So many great songs. Bradley Nowell was an amazing song writer. Their music always feels like summertime no matter when you play it! There were a lot of bands that adopted this sound after Sublime broke in the US. Unfortunately Bradley never got to see his success. RIP.
