Nice career summation, @sumonjamal , concise, sympathetic, missing only, maybe an explanation of the roots of the name. Let 'em look it up if they want. Not feeling ambitious just now myself, nor particularly professorial. 😊🤙🏼🎶❤️✨️☝🏼
@sumonjamal1653 I can tell. I’m a big Nirvana fan. I discovered them in 8th grade when they first came out. So I guess I didn’t really discover them because they were everywhere. Kind of hard to miss. But I remember getting ‘bleach’ on a road trip to Georgia with my parents and siblings. I needed a new tape for my Walkman, something new, to pass the time in the car and I thought it was the best album I had ever heard at that point. Thanks for the great writing.
@@94K_VR no, I actually hated them in 91. I was still in my rap phase 😂. I didn't start liking them until a band in my school played Teen Spirit at a talent show.
Oh man. I do love seeing these reactions. I was a teenager in Seattle in the early 80's and it was pretty much the back end of Nowhere. There was no internet, there were no cell phones. We heard rumors of the outside world but very little of it came our way. So we smoked a lot of pot and drank cheap beer and made weird music. This is what came of all that.
Wow, what a song choice for your first entry into Nirvana! As others have commented, Nirvana single handedly changed the music industry in the early 90s. I was in high school and lived through the impact they had on what everyone was listening to. "Lithium" and "Come As You Are" are two other songs of theirs you should definitely check out. And then their unplugged concert a few years later was epic, another special moment in music history. As for "that drummer"? You NEED to react to Foo Fighters. The drummer, Dave Grohl went on to form Foo Fighters and they have epic songs. Start with their song "Pretender".
Nevermind released at the beginning of my senior year in high school. Everything changed. Suddenly, everyone was wearing flannel, hair metal died, and music actually matched how we were feeling.
If you were alive in the 90's, you know Nirvana, even if you didn't listen to them! They basically took over the world in the early 90's! I like the Reading version of Anyerusm the best!
Yes the bass player (Krist Novoselick) is 6 foot 7 inches. It is surprising the two older ladies never heard of the band. Their biggest hit “Smells Like Teen Spirit” has over 1 billion views. That’s only on UA-cam if you count the # of views from MTV in the 90’s it’s easily 2 billion views. MTV played that video once every hour for many months.
This show was called - Live At The Paramount - a relatively small local venue, and was recorded in the literal days between them being absolute nobodies and becoming the biggest band in the world. Their video for Smells Like Teen Spirit had just begun to blow up. Kurt was the ultimate reluctant rock star, and once they blew up he became very awkward, reserved, he and pulled back a lot. But here they would have been very excited for what was coming - everything they worked so hard for was coming. That drummer is the absolute rock legend Dave Grohl, the singer and guitar player for The Foo Fighters. It's always been crazy to me that such a great drummer had all that other talent hiding inside. Reminds me of Pau.
i've always wondered, had Grohl not have been so popular would Nirvana still be so highly regarded? Nirvana are technically a supergroup because of Grohl's success prior.
@@mynameismark25 At the time Grohl was more popular because of Nirvana not the other way around... All we knew at the time is the drummer for Nirvana started his own group and that was why so many people were into them right away.
I am still a big Nirvana fan. I was in High School when they came out and a lot of people in my age group had their lives changed for the better because of this group. Great video .
Love Nirvana! Such a fun band and fun songs to cover on bass. Kurt Cobain was a musical genius! Their drummer looks like the lead singer of the Foo Fighters. 🤣
@@sleipnirvalhalla9322 Kurt was an amazing artist who was able to punk out with the best of them while adding his on pop twist. Unique and undeniably complex. I prefer to enjoy the art and not get dragged into the depths of the artists mind. Kurt had issues. The music is great and it is FUN to play and listen to. Otherwise why bother?
This is what reaction channels are best for: reliving songs I first heard in the early 90s through other people hearing them for the first time. Nirvana just had something about them that really clicks with kids in their early teens. They perfectly tapped into teen angst to the point that I didn't know a single person in my school who didn't love them. PS: If you're familiar with The Foo Fighters, their lead singer (David Grohl) is the drummer here.
How have you guys not heard about Nirvana?!?!?! They're the most famous rock band of the 90s hands down and one of the most famous rock bands of all time. Their album Nevermind is #6 on the Rolling Stone best albums of all time list and In Utero is #171. Unplugged is widely considered one of the best live albums of all time. You guys have a lot to explore! You should react to Smells Like Teen Spirit by Nirvana - it has close to 2 billion views: ua-cam.com/video/hTWKbfoikeg/v-deo.html
He's talking about doing heroin. When he says, do the twist, shoot the shit, beat me out of me & love you so much it makes me sick, they're heroin references. And she keeps it pumping straight to my heart.
When this album came out the record label did not really endorse it because they did not think it had any hits. But to the fans this song, among many on this album, are gems. The songwriting is brilliant and simplistic.I’m really glad you got to experience this song! Love seeing your reactions to the song!
@@kromeknifemind It's a collection of besides, early singles, and outtakes. I can see how you would have thought this was an album though. Aneurysm was also on Hormoning EP and a b side to Smells Like Teen Spirit
I so fucking miss Nirvana, and I also just missed Nirvana. I was 14 in 1994 when my friend gave me a tape of In Utero, I loved it, I had never really been in to music before then, I asked him about the band and he said "The band is gone, the guy killed himself three months ago". I was heartbroken but I spent all the cash that I had buying up everything by Nirvana I could find, studio albums, compilations, bootlegs, I was in love.
I would be surprised if you did not recognize some of their biggest mainstream songs ("Lithium", "In Bloom", "Come As You Are", "Smells Like Teen Spirit") when you heard them...Between 1991-1994, probably the biggest rock band in the world. Everybody recognizes "Smells Like Teen Spirit"...I expect my mother recognized this song...The drummer, Dave Grohl, later moved to the front as singer and guitarist, and has the successful band Foo Fighters. An unusual choice to introduce someone to the band; this is certainly diving off the deep end into the sort of super DIY, Sub Pop, punkier side. The other songs I mentioned are (somewhat) more conventional, but still hard hitting. If you liked this, I think you will like most of their music. Recommend this ferocious performance of "Breed" live at the Paramount in 1991: ua-cam.com/video/tGc8jL4dzao/v-deo.html
Been said before but Nirvana was the biggest band in the world in the early 1990’s. Their second album Nevermind has sold more than 30 million copies. Kids till this day wear their shirts everywhere I look.
Just found your channel! You've definitely earned yourself a sub with this one! I have a couple recommendations, if you haven't heard these yet! Static X - Cold Fuel - Hemorrhage Silverchair - Tomorrow Nirvana - You Know You're Right.
This is one of my fave songs by Nirvana, but the video's new to me, so thanks all! They recorded a very similar song later, called Frances Farmer Will Have Her Revenge On Seattle. Exciting band.
In Halloween of 1991 i was trick or treating through an active 31" northern Minnesota snowstorm. My pillow case full of candy soaked from all the snow i had to try to walk through. So no, i did not listen to Nirvana at this point. And actually hated all music until high school.
It's hard to overstate just how impactful Nirvana was to music, especially at that time. Before Nirvana, all of the top Rock and Metal bands were basically commercial hair-spray bands such as Motley Crue, Twisted Sister, Guns 'N Roses' etc. Bubble-gum stuff. Nirvana, seemingly overnight, completely killed an entire genre of music with their release of Smells Like Teen Spirit and the subsequent album release of "Nevermind." Suddenly music shifted to alternative rock with bands such as Alice In Chains, Pearl Jam and Soundgarden rising alongside Nirvana. To this very day, many of the biggest artists (including both Rock, Country, and surprisingly Hip Hop) cite Nirvana, more specifically vocalist Kurt Cobain, as a massive inspiration for their music. Despite their brief existence before Kurt's suicide, they have left an enduring legacy that can still be felt in music today.
I'm like 9 months late seeing this but the way your faces all change as the verse drops at 11:05 going forward, priceless, that was my reaction the first time I heard it as well.
The drummer, of course, recovered from the loss of Kurt to form his own band, FOO FIGHTERS and became an arena rock staple. Kris, the bass player, most recently blew my mind by gathering an amazing band as part of an Alice In Chain tribute at the Museum of Pop gala in Seattle (check out the video for "Drone"). Imagine that this kind of music had never existed before and that you were seeing this in a small club with 60 or 80 friends. It was absolutely MIND BLOWING.
Nice starting with the Paramount gig. It was shot on 16mm so it still looks amazing cause 16mm is more or less 4K I think...if you would speak in todays standards..
They were unarguably the biggest band in the 90s. Numbers don’t lie. That’s why Kurt is no longer with us, the fame really messed with him. I have no idea where you’d have to be in 1994 not to have heard of them. Unless you weren’t old enough yet. That girl on the left appears to be my age and I was about 15 when he died.
I remember that line "Love you so much it makes me sick" was inspired by something that happened to Kurt with his ex-girlfriend. He was so nervous he felt nauseus or something like that 🙃 Great song anyway and thanks for the video, KLD 👍
Nirvana was all I listened to in high school. And can I just say that I randomly came upon this reaction and channel and I have to say that I really enjoyed it and I am subscribing. I couldn't think of a better introduction to Nirvana actually. When Kurt died a lot of people didn't know who he was.. 33 years later.. it's kind of surprising people haven't heard, let alone heard of Nirvana.. but that's just me.. I was onboard since the second album this was a track on.
Watch "In the Pines". It was on the MTV Nirvana Unplugged special, the whole concert was awesome. Also, the drummer was Dave Grohl who went on the found the Foo Fighters and has done a lot of great songs since.
This is my favorite band, and this is my favorite performance by my favorite band. You picked a good one! And kind of a weird on, song structure wise, but you guys seemed like you were following right along! Kurt was really good and writing memorable songs.
I saw an interview where it was stated the line Come On Over and Do The TWIST refers to twisting the ends of joints, thus leading to Shoot The S@#*. Great reaction. Fun as always. 👏🤟🍻
How any of you never heard of Nirvana is mind blowing! They were one of the biggest bands of the 90s. I am sure you have heard of Kurt Cobain-He was the lead singer who passed away in 1994. Their drummer is Dave Grohl, who since Kurt's passing started the band Foo Fighters.
Nirvana would often have punked out guys and girls on stage doing old school dances: the twist, the mashed potatoe, the watusi, etc. They took grooves from the 60's and turned them way up.
This is one of their more hardcore songs, so I was worried y'all wouldn't be into it, but I was happy that you were. Some of their more popular ones were.. Smells Like Teen Spirit In Bloom Come As You Are, and Heart Shaped Box 🙂👍
Finally a real Nirvana song. I swear Kurt never would have done that Unplugged show if he knew it would be his only legacy. These guys single-handedly erased the 80s, and ushered in the 90s - not just musically, it was a complete change in the entire popular culture. Fashion, TV, music. Every massive rock band was crushed by their influence - gone were the fishnets and hairdye, and all of a sudden everyone - GNR, Motley Crue, Poison, the Mighty Metallica - were all wearing plaid, like the Seattle scene that Nirvana came from. Pawn shops were filled with pointy flourescent guitars that nobody wanted anymore lol. And every band changed their sound completely following the Grunge explosion that followed, most notably Metallica. Far more influential than they were talented - which is saying a lot - they were master performers and songwriters, despite their simplistic approach to both.
Unplugged is not his only legacy. Come on now. Smells Like Teen Spirit and Nevermind is the biggest part of his/their legacy. They have a ton of songs from all of their albums that are part of the Rock Canon. Killing Hair Metal and knocking MJ off the #1 spot on the charts is a big part of their legacy as well. Unfortunately his suicide is too. A robust and complicated legacy. Yes - Unplugged is one of the big pieces, but absurd to say it's his only legacy.
@@garysimonson1135 His legacy is what his fans make of it, and judging by what his fans push to these reaction channels his legacy is 95% MTV Unplugged. Not to mention, it's often the cover songs that are recommended most. Sad, cause Nirvana was clearly a rock band. Just look at them here, in all their glory.
So as far as Nirvana songs go, listen to smells like teen spirit from the Nevermind album , also from this album , in Bloom, breed, Polly, come as you are, these are their popular songs but the whole album is great. Then the unplugged in new York album you can pick any song from and they're all great too. Anyways hope to see more from them guys😊
He's talking about slamming heroin (come on over to shoot the shit) and when he says be loves her so much she makes him sick he's referring to being dope sick. A lot of these grunge songs sound like he's singing about love for a girl but really talking about their battles with addiction.

Krist Novoselic (bass) did some projects after Nirvana (Sweet 75... Eyes Adrift) but he eventually left the music industry and focused on being a local politician... He and Dave Grohl are still friends to this day.
In 2002, a greatest hits 'Nirvana' album was released w/ the last song Kurt Cobain recorded w/ the band - "You know you're right"... his raw emotions were on full display near the end of his life 😪
Thanks for the info
Are you a biographer? If not, you should be. That was a GREAT summarization of Nirvana!!!
@@nathanielhorrigan2181 👍I'm a fan and a writer.
Nirvana was the band that made me become a musician back in 92. Best band ever.
erm do you mean 91🤓☝️
@@94K_VR no, I actually hated them in 91. I was still in my rap phase 😂. I didn't start liking them until a band in my school played Teen Spirit at a talent show.
She keeps it pumping straight to my heart ❤️.
Haha, we used to argue about this back in the day. Some people thought it was "She keeps the perfect strain on my heart." You got it right, I believe.
I always heard "she keeps puppet string to my heart"
You’re right about it being pumped straight into his heart.. it’s about heroin unfortunately
Kurt Cobain was the lead singer. He took his own life in 1994
Courtney had him and Kristin Pfaff killed
Some say
He did sadly rip Kurt
Murdered by Courtney because he was in process to divorce her and there was a prenup per their lawyer/friend.
& unfortunately on my 25th bday
The drummer in Nirvana is Dave grohl who went on to be the lead singer in Foo fighters
i've always wondered, had Grohl not have been so popular would Nirvana still be so highly regarded? Nirvana are technically a supergroup because of Grohl's success prior.
@@mynameismark25 At the time Grohl was more popular because of Nirvana not the other way around... All we knew at the time is the drummer for Nirvana started his own group and that was why so many people were into them right away.
@@mynameismark25what? Nirvana was the biggest band in the world.. Kurt died, then Foo Fighters were formed
@@HBC423 do you know what prior means?
@@mynameismark25 apparently you don’t because Grohl had no success prior
I don’t think it’s possible to not know Nirvana if you lived in any western world country in the 90’s. Seriously not possible!
É o Dave mesmo... Foi baterista do Nirvana
fun ? that's not the first word i think of when i think about this song or kurt... 😉
Greatest band of my generation 🔥
If your not to busy can you react band called tool song 46&2 the lyric and meaning video I think you would love it..
Nirvana live is the best way to experience Nirvana
Well, that's quite a song to introduce the band to you. I'm surprised y'all liked it.
Love that song
This song never made it to an album
The album’s name is Incesticide
@@kromeknifemind It's a collection of besides, early singles, and outtakes. I can see how you would have thought this was an album though.
Aneurysm was also on Hormoning EP and a b side to Smells Like Teen Spirit
@kromeknifemind this isnt album....it was a collection of unreleased songs DGC bought from subpop
Keep enjoying Nirvana! Hope to see plenty more reaction videos of them in the near future!
I love grandma. She gets it. Now I know where yall got the beauty
"Beat thee enemy,
Beat me enemy,
Beat me outta me." Depending on when he was playing it, he'd switch out the chorus or make an amalgamation of all 3.
i think hes just screaming, i cant hear beat thee enemy
Funny how the drummer looks like a young version of the lead singer of Foo Fighters :-D
Great Reaction Kathy, Lulu and Donna!
Nirvana was the face of Grunge Music back in the 90's... Everything changed!!!
I think you become also a request from Nirvana's Smells like teen spirit, a single who went in many countries to no 1.
This is one of the best nirvana songs🙏❤️
I'm glad you ladies like Nirvana, they are my favorite band😊 I have a feeling you'll like the rest of their songs especially the unplugged
Just found your channel! You've definitely earned yourself a sub with this one! I have a couple recommendations, if you haven't heard these yet!
Static X - Cold
Fuel - Hemorrhage
Silverchair - Tomorrow
Nirvana - You Know You're Right.
Thanks for the sub!
This is one of my fave songs by Nirvana, but the video's new to me, so thanks all! They recorded a very similar song later, called Frances Farmer Will Have Her Revenge On Seattle. Exciting band.
Great introduction song for you ladies to this band! Keep going with Nirvana! One of the greatest rock bands ever!!
That nirvana show was filmed in seattle in halloween of 1991, i was 11 then and now 44.
In Halloween of 1991 i was trick or treating through an active 31" northern Minnesota snowstorm. My pillow case full of candy soaked from all the snow i had to try to walk through.
So no, i did not listen to Nirvana at this point. And actually hated all music until high school.
I'll never forget seeing them as an "up-and-coming" new band opening for Sonic Youth.
In 1993 I saw Nirvana in concert. Best concert ever!
Not sure if you remember but what show did you go to
It's hard to overstate just how impactful Nirvana was to music, especially at that time.
Nirvana was everything when I was in high school. When he passed away there was silence in the hallways for days
super band of the grunge ,j'adore rip kurt👍👍
Thanks for the great reaction!! Happy new subscriber from Australia!
Thanks for subbing!
They were unarguably the biggest band in the 90s. Numbers don’t lie. That’s why Kurt is no longer with us, the fame really messed with him. I have no idea where you’d have to be in 1994 not to have heard of them. Unless you weren’t old enough yet. That girl
on the left appears to be my age and I was about 15 when he died.
Amazing song and talented....RIP kurt
The bass player now has a farm and raises goats!
I remember that line "Love you so much it makes me sick" was inspired by something that happened to Kurt with his ex-girlfriend. He was so nervous he felt nauseus or something like that 🙃 Great song anyway and thanks for the video, KLD 👍
4:54 yup, she gets it.😂😂😂
RIP Kurt I wish you understood how loved you were.
You all wouldn't happen to be from East Texas would ya? I am from Longview TX. I live in Utah now and I'm feeling home sick.
FlY... It's your accent.
We are from the North Texas area.
I knew it! I love my people!
The drummer of Nirvana is the current lead singer of Foo Fighters..
They were such an important band 💯
grandma rockin it!
I love watching reactions to my favorite songs and bands. Keep up with the NIRVANA. This is just the beginning..
Nirvana was all I listened to in high school. And can I just say that I randomly came upon this reaction and channel and I have to say that I really enjoyed it and I am subscribing. You ladies are fun!!! I’m from Boston mass so I really loved your accents and love the 3 generations thing you got going. Looking forward to watching all your previous videos and future. I don’t know if you know the band foo fighters but the lead singer of foo fighters was the drummer for Nirvana. Keep up the cool reactions ladies. God bless, peace and love
Thanks
FYI, if no one has mentioned it yet: Nirvana's drummer, Dave Grohl, went on to create the band Foo Fighters (Everlong, which you reacted to)
Nirvana has many good songs you can react to. Literally dozens of songs. The drummer is actually the lead singer of the Foo Fighters now.
Drain you - nirvana ,,, great great song you will love
That synthwave intro is so nice. Need to find my lightcycle now.
Nirvana - Radio Friendly Unit Shifter (Live And Loud, Seattle / 1993)
I couldn't think of a better introduction to Nirvana actually. When Kurt died a lot of people didn't know who he was.. 33 years later.. it's kind of surprising people haven't heard, let alone heard of Nirvana.. but that's just me.. I was onboard since the second album this was a track on.
love,love,lo,love,love,love,nirvana!!!!!
Watch "In the Pines". It was on the MTV Nirvana Unplugged special, the whole concert was awesome. Also, the drummer was Dave Grohl who went on the found the Foo Fighters and has done a lot of great songs since.
You mean “where did you sleep last night”
This is my favorite band, and this is my favorite performance by my favorite band. You picked a good one! And kind of a weird on, song structure wise, but you guys seemed like you were following right along! Kurt was really good and writing memorable songs.
I saw an interview where it was stated the line Come On Over and Do The TWIST refers to twisting the ends of joints, thus leading to Shoot The S@#*. Great reaction. Fun as always. 👏🤟🍻
Thanks
One of my favorite songs to play on guitar🎸
How any of you never heard of Nirvana is mind blowing! They were one of the biggest bands of the 90s. I am sure you have heard of Kurt Cobain-He was the lead singer who passed away in 1994. Their drummer is Dave Grohl, who since Kurt's passing started the band Foo Fighters.
Loved these reactions ❤️❤️❤️ 30 yrs lovin nirvana myself
Thanks
So you liked them when you were 0 years old? 😮
The drummer is dave grohl from foo fighters
I loved this so much. Thank you so much!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Interesting choice of song on your first listen
Nirvana would often have punked out guys and girls on stage doing old school dances: the twist, the mashed potatoe, the watusi, etc. They took grooves from the 60's and turned them way up.
This is one of their more hardcore songs, so I was worried y'all wouldn't be into it, but I was happy that you were.
Some of their more popular ones were..
Smells Like Teen Spirit
In Bloom
Come As You Are, and
Heart Shaped Box 🙂👍
Love you ladies. The "shoot the shit" line is referring to Kurt's heroin addiction. Meaning inject the stuff
Ha ha,carvana,Lulu is just so funny😅
Negative Creep, absolutely incredible nirvana song, or my favourite, Drain You
Finally a real Nirvana song.
So happy to see some folks getting into the weeds with Nirvana. I recommend Aero Zeppelin
You'd love Unplugged Nirvana - The man who cold the world
Maybe you guys have heard of Foo Fighters. Dave Grohl was the drummer of Nirvana
Hilarious that the middle generation person, was the one genuinely enjoying it. While her mum and daughter were trying to get into it
I live and breathe NIRVANA!!! 🎸 🎸 🎸
I love you guys reaction ❤️ ♥️ 💓
Thanks
The drummer is Dave Grohl. Now the lead singer of Foo Fighters.
The drummer started a new band called foo fighters about a year after Kurts death
Foo fighters are the pop version of Nirvana
Here's a suggestion: The Who - A Quick One While He's Away, live from the Rolling Stones Rock & Roll Circus.
THIS SONG IS ALWAYS COOL !
I think you guys would really like Nirvana's Lake of Fire live MTV video, it has a real country vibe. Cheers from Australia.
I grew up on Nirvana, I love that the bass player is bare foot.
He's talking about slamming heroin (come on over to shoot the shit) and when he says be loves her so much she makes him sick he's referring to being dope sick. A lot of these grunge songs sound like he's singing about love for a girl but really talking about their battles with addiction.
Nice reaction, y'all.
I think you would be mesmerized by the Nirvana song Where did you sleep last night ?
✌️❤️
I saw them in Lincoln, NE. at Duffy's Tavern before Nevermind dropped .
