    I can never get over 7:48 , there's just something heartbreaking about that breath and quick stare he makes as he composes himself for the last bit of his performance. And as he sustains the last word of the song and see the tension in his closed eyes, it's like his throat is burning and scratched from how he just sang a moment before, and it's all he can do just to push through to the end. Despite the emotion of the performance, it doesn't seem like his heart was in it, almost like he was giving it his all out of spite, not caring if it hurt him or not. I wonder what kind of person he would be like today.

  • @rexwine
    @rexwine Місяць тому +1

    Loved that. Talk about hammering the downbeat in the midsection. Maybe when you mentioned style of the performance made me remember this since you asked for suggestions, but this compilation artist album had an Elton John song turned into a gospel performance. I found a good live performance under "Oleta Adams - Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me (Countdown, 1991)" on UA-cam. There's some low audience talking but that stops or gets buried soon during the performance.

    Thats a pretty common in blues and rock to tune down a half step. On a side note. A lot of the 90's bands would play in a dropped D tuning. Where only the low E is tuned to D and the rest are standard. Bands like Nirvana, Tool, Alice in Chains would use it often.

    One thing I love about bands from this era is they obviously weren’t super-by the book. From Kurt’s bluntly spoken first line, to even playing out of tune as you found, they often did things outside of expected music industry norms. But that final raw, screamed passage is incredible. He truly channeled something awfully deep there.

    Nirvana and Kurt in particular never needed perfect tuning, or perfect jaw movement.
    That's what made them special.
    Kurt could sing the phonebook and we'd listen.

    Kurt didn't need a traditional beautiful singing voice to touch our souls. I used to think about self-deleting myself as a teenager in the 90s. Kurt's suicide made it very obvious that it only leaves more pain behind. It's never the answer, he taught me that...

    In grunge music in general, and in Kurt's case in particular, it is very common that the guitars are tuned half a step down or to drop D tunning.

    Despite how much i love Nirvana and Pearl Jam's MTV Unplugged, Alice in Chains will probably forever be my favorite Grunge MTV Unplugged album ever done!

    The jaw movement is caused by amphetamine overuse, it occurs when u concentrate for example.
