  • ✔️I don't think I've ever spent this much time researching for a video as I have for this one so clicking on that like button would be HUGELY appreciated! Alright, let's now GEEK OUT🖋️ about skincare!
✔️Also, I was able to ask a cosmetic product formulator about some personal questions that I had and thought it would be interesting to share with you guys!
❓Why do brands keep on making pure vitamin C products in a dropper with water in the solution?
-"It's actually hard to formulate an l-ascorbic acid product with viscosity in it and that's why a lot of brands use water-based solutions to create it. Also, because vitamin C is an active ingredient, it's more apt to market them in a spoil type as a term as opposed to ex. a toner"
❓Some people say that peptides work- what's the truth behind the ingredient?
-"While it's true that peptide is too big to penetrate to the dermis, it actually has shown some regenerating effects on the deeper layers of the epidermis and that's why some people might still advocate for it."

Also thing about airless pumps is kind of misconception, because there’s a hole where product is coming out and this chanel is open all the time for the oxygen to come. There’s a short video from Labmuffin about airless pumps, she explains it much better 😅 she also mentions the study about stability of retinol product and the best was in dropper bottle)

Came here to say this. Airless pumps are not airtight. And that fact that she keeps using these two terms (airless and airtight) interchangeably is frustrating.

Also, if you just open the bottle once, the oxygen is in the bottle. Closing the bottle doesn't help. It would have to be a compressed nitrogen pump bottle to rule out oxidization.

    Great Job , Soo !!
I am so happy that you stood up that collagen is a great Humectant products and not to increase collagen production bec it cannot penetrate the skin since the molecules are too big. Sooo happy for you.
We all know the truth !
I heard a lot of Etoin as an ingredient but I haven't tried it yet n looking forward to it.
    Thanks !!

Agreed with you about collagen and peptides. The only thing that you can use collagen for is to be a humectant. That's why I like when people like you, Labmuffin and others that breakdown studies that really show the effectiveness of things. There's a lot of hype nowadays but we don't really know if it really works in our skins.

    • @lukastemberger
      @lukastemberger 4 місяці тому

And there are plenty of better humectants than collagen that are also cruelty free. The only reason it's being used is because it's cheap to produce and has a well known and misleading name.

Soo, in fact it is also questionable that vitamin C penetrates the dermis, Dr. Dray said that she does not use vitamin C, because there are no studies that verify its penetration, because it is not lipophilic. I love your videos Soo, I don't miss them. A giant kiss from Chile ❤️

I agree with you , skincare products that have collagen never wowed me , just average !
But my first experience with peptides was amazing, i have tried AMPLE N peptide Ampoule years ago, and believe me, it was the best thing I have ever put on my face ❤
So yeah, I believe in peptides products if they are well formulated

Such a smart video, thank you!
What do you think about 100% L-ascorbic acid powders? It's stable in powdered form, so adding it to your moisturizer right before application should theoretically deliver it in its best form. The Ordinary has one for example.
Also, I got the Panasonic Vitalift RF on my trip to Japan. Peptides used to only feel like humectants, but since using peptide serums together with the permeability setting on the Panasonic device, I feel like there is a lot more effect. It could also be the RF function on it that I use 2x week, so it's anecdotal. But after using any serum or other products with just the ion/permeability setting, it feels like the product is absorbed a lot deeper than otherwise.

Here in Europe we have one amazing brand which makes their vitamin C every week, so you receive it super fresh! I usually order 3, put it in the fridge and use in 6-7 months. It practically dupe of Skinceuticals (15% vitamin C+vitamin E+ferulic acid), comes clear like a tear and even at the end of the last bottle it doesn’t get close to yellow. As for me I never get any meaningful results with derivatives, so it’s all about finding right brand and product 😊

COSRX had a collab with Soko Glam years ago and it was my absolute favorite because it was made in small batches. They discontinued it though. I tried the C from COSRX that they sell direct now and it oxidizes fast. 😢
