    Good luck with the silicone fix. I don’t have an equinox but I own a Deus. I cut pieces of electrical tape and covered my speaker when I bought it. Overlapping a little. I wanted to help anyway I could. Keeping water and dirt out. After 2 years it’s still on there as good as new. Works awesome. I’ll send pics if someone wants. Buy the good 3m scotch 33 or whatever it is. The good stuff. I really recommend it. Not sure about other areas. It probably would work on where pieces join together also. Take your time and cut tape with scissors. Good luck. Hope this helps.

    I cleaned the back of my speaker with alcohol and then I used clear gorilla tape in sealed the speaker. Because that’s where I think the water comes in. I’ve done it to both of mine I am sure it wouldn’t void the warranty because I can just remove the tape if I have to send it back.

    Steve, Vaseline is not good for use on o-rings. It deteriorated the rubber over time. Go to your local hardware store and get some plumber's grease. This is made for lubricating rubber washers and o-rings, along with other parts of a faucet.

    As usual Mr. Gig Master great instructional video. I am glad you finally adressd this issue. I love the equinox 800, great machine when its working, but I have sent it back for repair three times. Two for water in console and one for shorted wire on coil connection. Minelab was quick to replace the consoles and coil. My unit is about a 1-1/2 years old. I use it often and only have the console underwater about two feet from the surface of the water. I bought the 800 because of the waterproof to ten feet discription. I am suprised Minelab has not recalled the units and replaced them with upgraded units that will not flood. I believe Minelab should find the problem and replace the units or just change the discription to land/beach unit only. $1200.00 plus dollars is a lot of money for these units that are not dependable. I hear some people do not have problems with their units, good for them. I how ever have sent my unit back three times. When I first started using the 800 I highly recommended the 800 to all my friends. I since have told them not to buy the 800. My Excalibur ll is way over six years old and has never broke. The speaker wire insulation is peeling so I thought it was time for an upgrade and purchased the 800. My excalibur is still going strong and now the 800 is a backup unit. Now thats not right. I will seal the unit and try not to dunk it in the water. I now highly recommend the Excalibur ll to all my friends now. I warn everyone who asks about my 800 about the numerous problems. Broke the arm rest now no big deal. Thanks again Mr Gig Master and good luck to all the treasure hunters.

    Great ideas, I just have one thought. If the battery o-rings are rubber they may break down with the Vaseline since it is a petroleum based. May want to get a silicone based grease for them. Might work to pull the battery out and flow some silicone into the top of the battery chamber to seal it?

  • @ItAintMeBabe99
    @ItAintMeBabe99 3 роки тому +4

    For the speaker, I would try the roll of rubberized roof tape. It has a peel off protective cover over the adhesive. Once that stuff is on, nothing will get it off. PS, I believe Vaseline will destroy the “O” rings, since it’s petroleum based. Use silicone.

    Gig the best solution for me and you is to use the equinox in the wet and dry sand. Since we both have the Excalibur ll, it will be a better water machine. I would venture to guess 9 out of 10 detectors’ would choose the Excalibur ll over the equinox for chest deep detecting. Don’t you agree.

    2 things you can also try to seal it up. Cut a bicycle tire tube and make a gasket for the battery area. Put 4 holes in it and it’ll go over the handle.
    If you’ve been to a hospital and had to get an IV they normally cover it with a clear rubber like bandage that it has a seal all around it but the center, that would be good for the speaker area.

  • @tedinvt4631

    The battery compartment seal is a Gore vent used for equalizing pressure. Not sure if I'd recommend sealing it. Google: gore vent. My money is on the speaker as the leak culprit, agree with Gig.

    • @Gigmaster
      @Gigmaster  3 роки тому

      I figured that what that was but water puts a lot of pressure on the unit underwater so i am going to take my chances with sealing it. There is no vent on the excalibur!

  • @timelordmagnums357
    @timelordmagnums357 3 роки тому +1

    I think the vaseline on the rubber might be a bad idea. I just looked at several articles about vaseline and rubber and here was a good summation of such. - Vaseline or other petroleum products should never be used on rubber or neoprene objects. It can deteriorate the rubber or neoprene very rapidly. The correct lube to use is a silicone based lubricant, which comes with or without Teflon.If I were you I'd find some other form of sealant.

    Since you didnt seal the the battery compartment, why not seal around the handle where it mounts to the shaft? I dont think I'm gonna seal mine I mainly bought it to be splash proof so I think it should be fine. If I decide to dive probably gonna cash in my pocket change I have been saving for 2yrs and buy a unit specialized for that. Thanks for the video. Also the headphone jack and battery compartment would probably be better with di-electric grease if u dont wanna buy a whole tube you can get it from any big auto parts store at the counter ($0.99) sparkplug boot grease same thing,just check and make sure it's safe for o-rings it should be though since sparkplug wires have rubber boots. Any word on the baby duck?

  • @ke4uyp
    @ke4uyp 3 роки тому +4

    It's one of two things either mine lab already knows where the leaks are but won't tell anyone. Or they're too lazy to put one of their machines in a tank with a camera or several cameras and film the unit sitting under water until it fails. They could speed up the process by putting it a little deeper than the rating of 10 ft.
    I guess there could also be a third reason,,,,, they knew from day one that these machines would leak but they wanted to use the waterproof rating as a selling point and they assume that most people will never use the machine to the point where it would leak.

    The hole in the battery compartment is likely a safety in case the lithium-ion battery gets shorted and will allow some venting. You've no doubt heard about these types of batteries "exploding", and some do, especially when there is no venting. Don't really know of a solution here, but likely the hole is for venting purposes.

    The seam between the face and the body near the grip cracks on the nox it is a weak point . Care must be taken that pressure is not exerted to “flex” the units head . The plastic weld between the two halves is inherently brittle so having that at the top of the grip is bad engineering.

    Listen I got something that'll work a lot better than all the work you just did I use this it's called Tear Aid patch type B it's a vinyl tape cut it and you tape up the speaker and me I put it on the front of the unit and around the edges and tape sticks to the unit no problem it's used on vinyl pools or I use it for my advertising balloons I put it on my machine and bingo it works like a charm and there ain't no water getting in this unit of mine I've used my Equinox l for four years and never leaked any water as a matter of fact if I peel the tape off the unit looks like it's brand new and the tape will not come off unless you pulled off it will seal the equinox it's going to work a lot better than what you just did took me less than five minutes to do the job and you can also put it underneath where the battery is and it'll seal everything up airtight simple and easy and not messy at all tear Aid patch type B check it out and by the way this stuff is a miracle tape you can use this stuff on almost anything it's about $70 a roll but I've been using it for the last 10 years and this stuff is a miracle for example you have any cracks in your boat or any of that stuff that you can think of and it will seal that up no problem buddy check it out I even think that you would even be able to take the equinox diving cuz this tape works so well I've already had it in about 30 feet of water and still no leaks ua-cam.com/video/r8_VBAHfPSs/v-deo.html
