What an excellent and informative video. This is a must watch for any nox owner out there. I like the tip about the sand buildup in the shaft. I was aware of water but had no idea about sand in shaft. Im going to put my nox on a scale to check the weight to make sure its around 3 pounds. If its over ill break down the shaft and tap out sand.
Ben, best to clean it after every use, same as anything. This vid was good pointing out problems, but I have to say that Minelab should be doing quality R & D before releasing it to the market. That they replace things immediately is great, but could that also be because you are on UA-cam? Even so, isn't it annoying having to wait for parts? Isn't it annoying when the fault happens in the field while detecting? Who pays the postage costs there and back? Seriously, these machines probably cost Minelab a dollar to make in some Asian countries using slave labour so they can maximise their profit margins. Why not have the machines made with quality parts and workmanship? I am now tossing up whether to buy a Nox or something else now. I'm not a hater, in fact, I don't even have a detector yet, just getting involved and searching for info. It's all very confusing when every UA-cam says every brand is great. Cheers everyone and I hope you are all having a great time.
I hate when I get sand buildup in my shaft. It can really make my shaft hard to handle. But it's nothing a little warm water and a washcloth cant fix. Usually, at the and of a long hard day my shaft will gather a little sand but it's not a big deal. You just want to make sure your shaft stays clean so you can slide it in and out real nice. I also hate when I get sand in my butthole. Shaft and butthole sand is the worst.
I have actually taken Peter’s advice and kicked the sand to the side until it is close and the push sand off. I baby the coils a little more now. Thanks Peter for the input.
I drill a 1/8" hole in my shaft a year ago and never had any structure problems at all. Just make sure the hole is above the solid core at the bottom. Did the same thing to my Excaliburs 3 years ago and again never had any issues. Good video steve, thanks.
I'm not going to get one because most people that have leaks they just send a new unit. That leads me to believe that when the warranty is over that they won't be repairing them.and replacing the pod will probably be expensive. Living up north with long winters eats up the warranty sitting in the closet all winter. Also I watch videos and most guys can't seem to pinpoint well with them and waste tons of time digging huge holes. One more reason is they find tiny tiny stuff and I'm after rings the bigger the better, I don't want to waste time digging tiny stuff. I'll wait and see what happens to people when the warranty is up. If I lived in a warmer climate maybe I might get one but for now I'll wait. Great video with awesome information.
What a great video. Everyone who is looking to possibly buy the Equinox would benefit in watching it. The one thing that concerns me is the flooding of the control, but with the great customer service it put my mind at ease. And most of your other problems are just minor and most likely just do to heavy use of the machine. With every day use, that machine must have over a 2000 hours on it.
Love your videos. I have learned much from you. I have come to the conclusion that the Equinox 800 is not the machine for underwater. I had the first one have water in the console and stop working. MineLab replaced it. Now the second one is making uncontrollable noise after a few minutes on. I detect about chest high in salt water. I have not had the equinox for a year yet and have found enough that it has paid for itself. I metal detect every chance I get. With your help I was able to use this detector with great results. I have emailed MineLab and waiting to see if they can help me. I have tried lowering the sensitivity, recovery speed up and down but do not like the performance. Ground and noise balance did not work. I never carry my phone with me so its not that. I hunt alone for many hours of the day and there are no other detectors are around me. Still noise will not go away. I will keep sending it back as you say but will stop recommending it to my friends. My backup unit has saved the day every time. It is a minelab Excalibur 2. and have had it for about four years now. I figured to upgrade because the Excalibur to was staring to get old. I love the 800 when its working. Once I figure what is wrong with my unit I will let you know. Thanks for your great work.
Granted I don't beach hunt but I sold my Equinox and bought an ORX and have zero regrets. Lighter, well balanced, and very fast. No quality issue's yet.
Half the 15” coil working. Great vid. Shaft still tight on mine. Just changed my Whites TDI Beach Hunter shaft with a great Red Carbon. Same problem with the cam twist locks. Wouldn’t tighten anymore and that 12” coil wobbling on the end drove me nuts. Now it’s lighter, tight and so much better balanced, plus you can minute adjust the bottom shaft. I purchased gray ghost amphibian headphones in May. 2nd time I plugged them into my equinox 800 at the lake no less, they didn’t work. No sound. Sent them in beginning of July. After two weeks they finally write back, with an invoice! Not happy with that. Got so upset, told them they could keep them. Going to purchase from Tony Eisenhower. Understand his underwater headphones are very good. Great Vid. Very informative.
I just got the 15" coil today from Amazon and tried it out and immediately put it back in the box for a return, and that was before I had seen this video with you having the same issue.
My 600 armrest cracked in he middle on very first day and fell off on 3rd day. I sent email to support and received response...22 days later. Of course I already purchased a new armrest (I think it was ~25$ on A.)
Thank you so much for all the little quirks the 800 has and all the fix it tips. I haven't had a chance to get mine wet yet and have only had it for 4months. I'm glad I subscribed and hit that notification button so I can get all the great info from you. I really love my equinox. Thank you.
thanks for the review, I really love that you showed the short coming of the 800. that's the best way to convince someone to buy one. I think they call it honesty??? not sure if that's the right work, its a old English work that doesn't get used very much these days. well thanks for the review.
Some problems described were self inflicted. Anyone detecting in saltwater with an aluminum shaft should take the shaft apart after each use and flush thoroughly with fresh water. No different than saltwater fishing equipment if you want it to last. I've detected in saltwater and flushed after each use and had no corrosion problems. Simple maintenance. Problem with water in lower shaft can be solved by raising the coil up in the air and the water will run out of the holes in the shaft when you're up on the sand. Wobbly shaft issue is an acknowledged problem with the earlier Equinoxes. Minelab replaced mine immediately with no questions asked. Replaced my aluminum shaft with carbon fiber for saltwater use. Cuff problems... yes, the rubber cuff liner comes off after a few uses. Glue it back in with Gorilla Clear Grip after removing the factory double-sided tape. Need more rubber, go to Michaels and buy an 8.5” x 11” sheet. Broken cuff... yes, plastic is very thin and can break easily. Minelab replaces immediately under warranty. I made a new “stand” part (below the cuff) using a piece of Lexan and a heat gun. Works great and will probably never break. I now keep it as a backup. Equinox is a fantastic machine as stated and Minelab's warranty repairs are the best. Kudos to John and Dan at Detector Center repair shop in PA. They're the best! Good video, Gig!
Awesome video, thanks Gig!!!! I have the 800 with the Detext ed carbon fiber shaft, coil ear stiffeners, pinpointer holder and lanyard as well as the 15 inch coil and I love it!! Minelabs warranty program is second to none, they replaced my 11 inch coil when the ears snapped as well as the Propoint 35 pinpoibter. I live their product and service
I print my own cuffs. Have dfferent colours and all. It also has the Minelab logo on it and slightly higher legs. I print it in ABS or Carbon Fibre. Also print my own full piece coil skid plates
I now own two Equinox 800's so i don't experience down time if one goes bad. I'm going to tell you in my opinion The Equinox offers a better edge on beach performance. It beats out E-trac, Excalibur,Sovereign and, CTX (on small gold department!) I've used all the ones I spoke of, on the beach! Found great stuff with them over the years. I now prefer the Equinox over others. Here is why.....#1, I now don't feel like I'm carrying a God darn weedwhacker and left with a broken arm! This = more time to hunt, allowing better chances for finds! #2, Ease of use on menu options. #3 way better screen!!! #4, waterproof and wireless. #5,The price came down instead of going up! Bottom line it performs! I'm impressed with mine so far! To me, it seems like most people that have complained about the Equinox are the ones stuck with the $2,500.00 CTX and now bitter about that. I know! I felt the same way! I think again, in my opinion that CTX users are starting to see The $900.00 Equinox is not to far off, if any ,in performance. I found out the hardway!!! I dumped my CTX, not because its performance but, the weight of it got to me! For now Equinox Is the answer for me until the next big thing. This is just based on my personal opinion and not intended to tell others they're wrong on own opinions. Use what works for you!
So far only thing I had go wrong was coil ears broke. Thank God it was 2 months from warranty ending. My Etrac is out of warranty and I found all kinds of neat tricks to fix things since no warranty to void LOL I went through a dozen coils with the E-Trac both in and out of warranty. Also had to replace my E-Trac headphones about every 4 months, luckily lifetime warranty on those from Koss. Thanks for sharing.
I'll be honest Gig, I've not had any issues yet. I do almost expect something to happen with the shaft or arm cup though. The performance of the machine is so awesome, even if I was having built problems I'd still use it! My silver coin find rate has gone up for sure. I found a Spanish one reale in my last video hunt...it's been a long time since I had one!!
@bill2526 bill2526 I been researching the 3030 for some time ,I like it but it doesn't seem to do anymore that a mid priced machine except the gingerbread is the attraction.
@bill2526 bill2526 It probably works great but it is riddled with issues and needs to be warranted 10 years out. I need reliability. I own a Whites GMT for 8 years and it is still functioning like new with no issues.
Reminds me of DJI drones. Bought six, shipped on my dime. All new out of box and DEFECTIVE. Because of the time, money and aggravation, they'll never sell me anything ever again. I ended up with a refurbished drone after spending big money chasing and shipping. Nearest drone shop, 200 miles each way. If I shipped them for return it was 28 bucks. Drove me to abandon DJI hype on UA-cam! So minelab UA-cam hype, thanks but no thanks! Thanks gigmaster for your honesty! I'd never recommend these headaches to my worse enemies! Best wishes and regards gigmaster!
One thing to think about Mike, Gigmaster is not sponsored by minelab. He's passionate and great to watch! UA-cam is notorious like as in hype for their advertisers. So gigmaster is very honest about his complaints. To these defects of the equinox I would add the compressed ID instead of a reasonable 1 to 99. Makes the equinox a dig up everything detector. Granted saltwater fools us with mineralization. But using the equinox away from beaches leaves little cherry picking ID resolution. So would I recommend the equinox, only with the understanding of many headaches to follow. Best wishes and regards sir!
Phantom 3 and phantom 4. Bad sensors, compass, and boards. Either not flyable out of box new or they attempted to fly back to China. Never DJI is my policy. I'm a licensed private pilot, single, twin and instrument VFR & IFR rated.
Great informative video, nice to know Minelab will honour the warranty. One issue I've had is the build up of sand inside the coil cover which I now check on a regular basis 👍👍
Wow after seeing this awesome well informed vid, i so don't want one, l will stick with my Excal and my Safari, never had a drama with these detectors and have owned both of them for years now, cheer mate.
Another practical, informative video. I'm researching this detector as I'm strongly considering buying one. Sure I like to hear all the great things a prospective detector does but what I really need to know about is any potential problems and issues. The only issue that concerns me here is the potential flooding problem. From what I've been reading it's a crapshoot, some flood and some don't. As long as it's under warranty I guess it's not a big deal other than the down time till you get your machine back. I can't afford 2 like you ! I'm really glad to hear that Minelab's responses and service are top notch that's a huge deal. I've mainly been a White's guy and their service is extremely good so I've been leery to go to other manufacturers. As far as the shafts and coils I'm planning on getting a carbon fiber shaft right off and using only the 11" and 6" coils. Thanks again Gigmaster your videos are invaluable for my research into making an informed decision. peace
I agree with Dave Cummings. Are Minelab saying that the way they seal the control box will not last.Such an important aspect of the so called water proof detector. So we pay near enough £800 for something that might only work for a short period.I got a nox 800 and the Minelab pro 35 pin pointer and feel very unsafe to use it in the water. Hope Minelab look at this issue and have a product recall.
Finally, somebody that uses their machines like I do.....Rode hard and put up wet, with a quick fresh water rinse of course. I have 5 excals and only 1 can be used in the water right now because all the others have leaked due to coils splitting apart or due to the rubber coil wires cracking. I have started putting rubber conditioner on my last excal which is only 1 1/2 years old right now. I just bought a equinox 800 and it will be here in a week or so. I know I am not getting gold chains here, so I am excited to see how it does here in Grand Cayman. If you ever come this way, give me a heads up and we can detect, I am also wanting to meet up with you and Max in Va when we get back to the states. Thanks for all the videos you have put up, it did help me decide to grab the Equinox. I have to say that you give Minelab more credit than I do. When I am spending $1500 on a Excal and it lasts me 3 years but I have a 20+ year old blue sword and red heads that still have great coil wires that are not cracking, as well as a old CZ 21 that the wires are still good......I feel Minelab has cheapened up on their build quality. I use mine almost everyday, 5 hours at least. So they pay for themselves pretty quick but I feel they should last longer, looking at my old coils off of old Excals they look like they are made better than the ones made for the past 7 years or so. The new ones always seem to separate and then I have to put 2 part epoxy on them to keep them waterproof. With or without coil covers, which I am not a fan of. Just my opinion and yes, I should take better care of them but they are not left in the car all day and they are washed off with fresh water. I am sure I will do a video on it after I've figured it out. Thanks again, Chris
I love my Nox 600. Im using an Anderson shaft and stock coil and have had zero major issues. Its seen a lot of use in the water and on land too but I usually take it apart and clean it up real good after each use
I mailed mine in this week for the same problems, Vdi numbers are off, Falsing like crazy, Broken arm cuff and shaft wobble.. Glad to know the cause of the Vdi and that i'm not the only one with the Vdi issue.
I've been using the Garrett AT Max, it's been bullet proof. You can put this thing through hell and it asks for more. That equinox might be ok in a clean yard or someone that might go detecting once or twice a year. Just my opinion.
Thanks for the tip using the furnace tape on the lower shaft. I cleaned up the shaft, applied the tape, and it seems to snug up much better. Taking it to New York to hunt Monday and Tuesday, so I’ll see how it holds up. Hotter than hell this weekend in NE Ohio. Maybe I’ll go water hunting in Lake Erie...then again, maybe not with all that flesh eating bacteria going around. 😱😱
I bought my Equinox early on, and I hunt year round. My shaft does not look like the ones in the video. It looks like sand is getting in the shaft and not being cleaned out. I clean my machine every time I use it,
I would say, purchase the shafts from the detect.ed website is cheaper than from amazon. I have noted shaft wobble in the water and is even more the deeper you are. The shaft and the coil together also pose a resistance on the elbow fixture in the water. Water and debris inside the shaft is a big problem as well. If you hunt in a river, wash your nox really good after a hunt to avoid the water inside the shaft to rote and smell.
You should be a product tester for Minelab, you use it hard more often than most. A great video. I'm a happy Nox 800 user, but not as active as you are! Keep up the great videos 😀
Man it would be nice if a company made a unit that you could take out of the box and put to use without having to worry about all these headaches. With all the technology we have why does that company not exist? You would think the American-made detectors would be foolproof but they just can't wait for the warranty to wear out so they can sell you more junk.
At last!!! I am so tired of hearing about the Equinox being the "best thing since sliced bread" someone even said that their "Nox" was better than my XP Deus! Seriously guys, I'm glad you are all happy with your nox 600or 800 but don't compare it to the Deus. Cheers all and keep safe out there. I realise that the box is used in water but I use my Excalibur ii for the water. A true water machine.
Yea, I sold my Deus to get the Nox 800. I was missing targets like crazy. Apart from being light, Deus is inferior to the Nox. There’s a german guy that basically quits mids search because his Deus is just bad. I searched a field with the Deus and my mate was using the Nox and I couldn’t believe how much better the Nox was. Thank God I got rid of it.
My wife wanted to surprise me and bought a used one. It looked like havent been used but a few times. Thats what the guy told her. I wish she would have told me because I would have went with her. She said the guy ask her if she wanted him to it appart and put in box and she said yes😱. Long story short got it home and I was as happy as a hog eating shit. Put it together and it wouldn't turn on. It does turn on but I have to hold the button down for a several seconds and it will eventually turn on. Overall I'm very happy with it so far. I wanted it to use on the beach because here in the South it gets hot in the summer and I'm 10 minutes from several beaches. First time using it on the beach I found two rings. I think I've been to the beach 4 times and have found four rings. No gold yet but all 925. Been Relic hunting 3 times or so and have done well with the Relic part 2
Good video. I bet your use is equal to 20 average detectorist. Considering their low price I am totally happy with mine and have had no problems. I do rinse off my machine after the beach and turn it upside down to drain. Occasionally I dismantle the shaft to remove all grit. I doubt if you could drill a hole in the bottom of the shaft big enough to not get clogged by the sand without weakening it substantially.
La mayoria de las ocasiones los problemas se evitan con un buen trato y mantenimiento del detector y por lo que puedo ver en el video ni una cosa ni la otra. No se tome este comentario como algo negativo es simplemente otro consejo para evitar problemas un saludo.
Agree - my shafts are the same and the weakest link - I tape them as you did, bad design. Minelabs should send out a carbon fiber replacement shaft to customers, the electronics is good the shaft is horrible. Thanks for sharing. Minelabs has a real-world user to help improve their product.
After watching this video I would never consider buying another NOx again. I owned a NOx 600 for awhile but sold it as I found my Fisher F70 got better depth. I have considered getting the 800 but after viewing this video I will definitely pass. My Fishers which I have put hundreds of hours on have none of the issues mentioned here with the exception of worn arm support padding. A issue easily avoiding by coating the padding with gaffes tape. Good luck with your NOXs especially after the warranty expires! Maltfoto
Thank you GiG. I am trying to make a decision, whether to get the Excalibur's 2 or the Equinox 800. We do have gold in in Brazil so any little help will do. Have you done a comparison with Excalibur's and the Equinox 800. I know that different minerals in salt and fresh water make a difference, But I would like to see a Dectector You tuber be able to be chosen by all the detector manufacturer to be selected to go to every country and pick the most popular beach. Take a sample of the sand in a little flask and either walk the beach and detect. Or snorkel the beach and detect. After this has been completed you would know which beach and in what color sand and what detector performed the best. But this is only wish full thinking 🤔 Thanks again. Gig do they make the Detect-ed for the Fisher 44
I like the 800. But I have had to send it back twice for repair. First time was for water in console. Now the coil has a short at the coil connection. The unit is only a year and 6 months old. I have a excalibur ll that is old and has never broke. The 800 was supposed to be the machine to replace the excalibur ll. Like I said I like the machine but to much down time. My bad luck.
I know about water in the shaft ,I just tip it up and all the water runs out. I've been lucky with mine I go in the water and on land no problems with mine. Love my nox 800 . HH all
I had my garrett 350 for 5 years and one day another diger asked is it brand new coz it was spotless and I said its 5years old and he was shocked.( keep your tools clean) .
I love mine same troubles and some times on land you dig your target flip your plug and you get no signal plug or hole !! But I know it’s there !!! but the metal detector gives me nothing? It’s in the hole in lose dirt ? Most of the time!!
Thanks for the link to the shaft, but I must tell you that I've had my Equinox 800 for about 9 months now I use it daily and the only issue I've had is that the wireless headphones stopped charging and as yo said, MineLab stands behind their product, I sent it in and they replaced it. I guess I've been lucky. I do drain the shaft after being in the water but that's about it.
The Silvar Hunters I’m in Australia (not sure where you are) and they are 160-180 for the combo Australian dollars. Go to this link :) www.detect-ed.com/collections/detecting-accessories/products/ed-belly-black-equinox-carbon-shaft-combo-set
Thats crazy my 800 is brand new and the stock coil wont display numbers at all on some targets, one was a perfect old thimball so..i called them and they want me to ship my whole machine back to them, but i do not want to be without a machine for that long. I go everyday as well!
Great video I have been lucky never had any problems with my nox yet And I have had a Detect ED shaft since it came out and it is the best you can get out there it's very well made it is a lot lighter and the water drains out of it I never had any sand in it
thanks for your advise I almost bought one of these but got a xpdeus instead I have no regrets as I don't beach hunt it is the lightest easiest machine I have ever used and fits in a back pack great target separation too found so much stuff my at pro missed I am still looking forward to the new Vanquish to see if it is as good as the nox 800 Minelab seams like a solid company and after all you can never have too many detectors
Minelab is a great company! They strive to be the leader in the metal detector industry. No doubt they make great products! They have top notch engineers working to make the latest and greatest machines.I can't wait to see what the future brings from Minelab!
Hello my friend nice video I wanted to ask you about equinox 800 I have both equinox and CTX but before 800 I had 600 m in the water it was very stable with the 800 it also plays empty holes for the signal is very nervous or have you tried all the settings But nothing to do I went back to the old update 1.7.5 and nothing to do Can you advise me What can I do Thank you very much
There is a new telescopic carbon fibre shaft out for the Equinox.. made in the uk.. it’s closes down to 24 inches and it has the same type of cam locks as the carbon fibre one you have.. think it’s made by serious detecting! I’ve seen a few people post vids on here and they say they’re good! Also how long does it take to charge a Equinox 800? I’ve had mine a year and it usually takes 4 hours.. recently it’s taking around 8 hours using the same iPhone plug I’ve always used.. do you think I should get in touch with minelab about this? Good vid btw 👍🏻
My 600 has flooded. This is the second faulty Nox I've had. I read there have been a lot of flooded Noxes, seems to be a problem. Looking at a different machine now.
If the shaft isnt tightened properly it will wobble and wear. If it is checked and done properly it shouldn't move. Never had a problem. But then again. I keep mine clean and don't abuse it.
swiftrick15 I don’t think Steve abuses them either. But he sure does put them through some real life testing. I unlock my twist cams, loosen the coil bolt and wire connector every time I put mine up, to keep the pressure off of the plastic. Give it a freshwater rinse if I take it to the ocean.
@@MetalDetectingwithCZkidd Steve abuses them alright. Lol. In a good way. Lol Exactly...keeping it clean after every use is key. And cleaning is according to conditions used. 👍
I struggle with my headphones. I spend too much time trying to pair them up and sometimes it works and sometimes not. Today, I spent half the day not using headphones cause I got tired of spending time pairing them. I drive to different spots all the time so I am constantly turning the machine off and on all the time. I think I will just buy the 600 headphones for my 800. Or maybe just buy the water proof, but am afraid I will have water issues? What to do?
I never would have thought to check inside the shaft for sand. Good reason to take things apart once in awhile and give a good rinse. I would not drill the shaft. That is where it will break. Good video with lots to think about. I have not had a problem with my Equinox (yet). Only issue was my failure to rinse it off after being in salt water and the charging connector started to go green. I corrected it with a little bit of vinegar and won;t let that happen again.
Mine is fine, cleaned after every use, it looks like you dont take care of your equipment, i bet if you shoot or go fishing your gear will be in the same condition its not minelabs fault its yours, it is a fine peice of kit, you need to show more care to it, any one who buys one clean it look after it, not many companies would repair after such neglect, good on minelab,
I agree with you 100% I should wash after each use but some of the issues dont come from not washing. There are multitudes reporting some of the same issues. Good luck out there!
@@antoniusblade871 I HAVE NO PROBLEMS WITH MINE ITS A GREAT MACHINE I ALSO HAVE THE XLT SPECTRUM AND THE MX7 THE EQUINOX BEATS THEM BOTH AT A GREAT PRICE
@@georgesocci5780 I bought an XLT back in the early 2000's and I haven't hunted in about 12 years. I've recently wanted to start hunting again. My XLT still works great but I also have been looking to see what new detectors are available. My question is do you think the Equinox is much better than the XLT? I know it's multiple frequency, water proof and all but is it much better at finding good targets or should I just stick with the XLT?
Minelab seems to have allot of quality control issues. My issue is they only have 1 us repair shop. Its Kellyco. If minelab can't put out quality, im not gonna buy cauae of the downtime to fix. And what happens after warrantee is gone? Pay and pay and pay. I was gonna buyone now im looking elsewhere.
Equinox performance is outstanding but the build quality is very disappointing. Im on my 4th controll pod due to leakage. I actually do not believe they are really water proof anymore. The first two times it leaked they sent me another one pretty fast but now they are claiming a shortage on control units and told me it may be 2 months before i get it back now. The minelab services are starting to suck !!
I raised my hand ...lol And promptly hitted the sub button . I had all issues...tje last Hot me realy scratching my head ! My on/off switch broken off the motherboard...arggh. Grtzz john
I recently brought mine and the second time I used I took it a foot under water and it flooded, It's now unusable and the store I brought it from has closed for three weeks over Christmas, I so hope I haven't brought a lemon and thrown away $1300 Aussie dollars. I wonder if anyone else has had this issue??
Hey buddy! I’m a subscriber and really appreciate you videos, very informative. I have question for ya, I’m gonna buy a detector soon and it’s gonna be either a minelab 600 or the Garrett AT max and leaning more towards the 600 but Id like to know your thoughts. Thanks! And keep the videos coming!
Excellent video sir thank you for helping me make up my mind ! I suggest viewers watch the XP ORX videos before you decide like I did !!! ORX XP my choice
What an excellent and informative video. This is a must watch for any nox owner out there. I like the tip about the sand buildup in the shaft. I am not stubborn ,I will watch and see how the Nox lives up to the praise then I will decide .but for now it is not in good standing.

Instablaster.
The shaft connection problems maybe related to the fact that you use the metal detector like a shovel pushing sand side to side
There was no reason to say that..it's a stupid comment

Canal Zone Kidd Thanks for the info on the Grey Ghost
Good video, Gig!
i was told when i bought my nox 800 after beach hunting put it under the shower to clean the machine
Do you have the STL? Im interested to print my own :-)
I now own two Equinox 800's so i don't experience down time if one goes bad.
That extra weight may be why the shaft failed. I always tip my Equinox up to drain the water out when I have been in the water.
Considering what Minelab charges for this detector, these problems are unacceptable.
I agree, Mine Lab is supposed to be high end but these short comings are unacceptable.
@bill2526 bill2526 I been researching the 3030 for some time ,I like it but it doesn't seem to do anymore that a mid priced machine except the gingerbread is the attraction.
@bill2526 bill2526 Thanks ,I am interested in the V3i now. It seems to be a doer with no room for quirks.
@bill2526 bill2526 It probably works great but it is riddled with issues and needs to be warranted 10 years out. I need reliability. I own a Whites GMT for 8 years and it is still functioning like new with no issues.
@@SunsTo7 ITS TRUE GET THE EQUINOX 800 FORGET THE REST
Where they mavics or phantom drones?
Phantom 3 and phantom 4. Bad sensors, compass, and boards. Either not flyable out of box new or they attempted to fly back to China. Never DJI is my policy. I'm a licensed private pilot, single, twin and instrument VFR & IFR rated.
Great informative video, nice to know Minelab will honour the warranty.
One issue I've had is the build up of sand inside the coil cover which I now check on a regular basis 👍👍
Get a can of truck bed coating.and spray the coil.No need for covers.
Thanks again Gigmaster your videos are invaluable for my research into making an informed decision. peace
You have a great relationship with the company so I see why they take care of you. Great video, the should sponsor you.
Susan wow thanks for helping Steve find the owner of the class ring great team work
I agree with Dave Cummings.
Agree I just bought one and feel the same way
Finally, somebody that uses their machines like I do.....Rode hard and put up wet, with a quick fresh water rinse of course.
Brad Lol Good job!
04:50 I would drill a hole also. I tend to fix what I have rather than get something new.
It looks like to me that a little cleanup and maintenance after a hunt would do wonders!
Tesoro stands behind their products. I have a 30 year old Pantera. I also have a 40 year old Garrett.
Ray Mihulka
Tesoro is out of business
Been Relic hunting 3 times or so and have done well with the Relic part 2
mine also doesn't turn on unless I press a bit longer. Maybe it's normal ?
You use yours probably more than most of us, im drilling the hole tonight when i get home and will order the detect ed shaft thanks for the info.
a hole was already drilled in your wallet when you bought that minelame detector
Now your talkin gigmaster - detect Ed all the way 🇦🇺👍🏻👊🏼✌🏼
Thanks for your honesty, Are there any complaints about the battery life and recharge costs and performance.
No problem with the battery
@@Gigmaster I'm asking about how much hassle is it to keep recharging, while in use a lot.
No problem at all. Keeps charge a long time too!
I had the water in the rod when putting my detector in the truck get down my waders LOL I know that problem to well.
I solved the problem by placing a new carbon steel between it. Bang and it works properly in and outside the water. :) I bought it for 89 euro.
I owe the Nox 800 and the Garrett AT max, must say the Max is more steady than the Nox 800. But both are great
La mayoria de las ocasiones los problemas se evitan con un buen trato y mantenimiento del detector y por lo que puedo ver en el video ni una cosa ni la otra.
No se tome este comentario como algo negativo es simplemente otro consejo para evitar problemas un saludo.
Steve i recommend it too its the best better than the and the vanquish.
Thanks. Just ordered the Detect-Ed shaft from the Diggers Den
What coil for the beach is best. I'm thinking about the 6"?
I like the 15”
Would you know where I could find an VID list for each mode? Great videos. Keeper coming.
?
Edward Rivera If you are staying under 10 feet deep go with the Equinox if you are diving Excalibur II
Go to https:/www.detect-ed.com to check on the shaft
I like the 800. But I have had to send it back twice for repair. First time was for water in console. Now the coil has a short at the coil connection. The unit is only a year and 6 months old. I have a excalibur ll that is old and has never broke. The 800 was supposed to be the machine to replace the excalibur ll. Like I said I like the machine but to much down time. My bad luck.
I know about water in the shaft ,I just tip it up and all the water runs out. I've been lucky with mine I go in the water and on land no problems with mine. Love my nox 800 . HH all
I had my garrett 350 for 5 years and one day another diger asked is it brand new coz it was spotless and I said its 5years old and he was shocked.( keep your tools clean)
.
I have a garrett 350 it's 7 years old and it looks brand new.
Detect-ed makes awesome shafts I’ve heard, I’m saving up for one from him.
I've heard good things about those shafts, what's the cost of them?
The Silvar Hunters I’m in Australia (not sure where you are) and they are 160-180 for the combo Australian dollars. Go to this link :) www.detect-ed.com/collections/detecting-accessories/products/ed-belly-black-equinox-carbon-shaft-combo-set
Toyah Burns I have a couple links to the shafts in my description.
Robert Ferguson got one of the detect-ed shafts sent to him free. Check out his last video .
Just clean the shaft now that you know.quit wineing
After watching ... it seems it’s guaranteed to break. Warranty will end eventually. Thanks for the video.
9:10 Is this a bad wire? Or a bad board in the coil?
Thats crazy my 800 is brand new and the stock coil wont display numbers at all on some targets, one was a perfect old thimball so..i called them and they want me to ship my whole machine back to them, but i do not want to be without a machine for that long. I go everyday as well!
Great explanation on the Detect-Ed shafts….sand and water….yeap
Steve you are the best with the great education videos on the equinox 800
who's got $800 or more ?? great info thank you .
THATS ALOT OF ISSUES MY FRIEND....FOR THAT KIND OF MONEY..FROM 2018..SHOULD HAVE BEEN ADDRESSED.
Great video I have been lucky never had any problems with my nox yet
And I have had a Detect ED shaft since it came out and it is the best you can get out there it's very well made it is a lot lighter and the water drains out of it I never had any sand in it
thanks for your advise I almost bought one of these but got a xpdeus instead I have no regrets as I don't beach hunt it is the lightest easiest machine I have ever used and fits in a back pack great target separation too found so much stuff my at pro missed I am still looking forward to the new Vanquish to see if it is as good as the nox 800 Minelab seams like a solid company and after all you can never have too many detectors
Lol
Exactly...keeping it clean after every use is key. And cleaning is according to conditions used.
👍
I was considering buying this unit. Not so sure about that now. When the warranty runs out, you're screwed when these problems crop up.
If you take care of your equipment unlike this guy, your machine will most likely be just fine
Thank You. All those problems and You still recommend it. Must be a great machine. You hunt gold with it too? Great video and information.
Yes! Dug a gold nugget with it a couple days ago.
Thanks alot I appreciate you and your information concerning the Equinox metal detector 800 and Company 👍
Thanks Gig. Think I’ll buy an 800. Tell Max Tony said hello…
Call Don tell em gig sent you 7062646011
Great video. Most things, just like a Bic lighter, will wear out if you use them too much!
Great vid. I've been looking at the Equinox. This was very helpful. Thank you.
The ultimate solution is for minelab to give everybody a properly built shaft in the first place!
You got shafted already when you bought the thing

Thank you for all the work you do for a video.

Lower shaft coil mount will fall out of the shaft after a few weeks...
I recently brought mine and the second time I used I took it a foot under water and it flooded, It's now unusable and the store I brought it from has closed for three weeks over Christmas, I so hope I haven't brought a lemon and thrown away $1300 Aussie dollars. I wonder if anyone else has had this issue??
thinking of buy one.
Thanks for doing the video!!!! The new Vanquish will take care of all of the problem !!! Lol. Great job !!!!

Is the Garrett at max any good?
Never tried one. My friend likes his. Not sure about oceanfront use.
Looks like you beat the crap out of your equipment!!!! Any detector can only take a certain amount of abuse.
Guilty
Gigmaster thanks for the tips your other videos are great too
I'm not so sure about Mine lab anymore. I may lean more to Whites .They are really a sleeping giant. If its warranty that you want they are reliable.
