I work at a cinema. RRR easily had the best atmosphere of any film I’ve worked for - including Infinity War, Endgame and No Way Home. The cheers blasted through the soundproofing and we had to turn the volume up multiple times!
I was one of the stuntmans on the movie, Interesting fact is that the movie started shooting in 2018, we went 4 years in a roll to shoot the move, and that jumping with the torches and animals shot was i think about 27 takes to get it as the director wanted, we started gambling on how many shots it will take.
THAT MAKES SOOO MUCH SENSE!! Thats actually so cool. Also, the naatu naatu dance also conveys the whole story of the movie. How they became friends, then they turned against each other then Ram loses for Aktar to complete his mission.
Fun Trivia : The Naatu Naatu song was filmed in front of the Kyiv Palace. Apparently Zelensky was living there in the presidential palace while the shooting was going on. The cast have said in multiple interviews that they are in touch with their Ukrainian crew and trying to help them in any way they can.
All these Indian VFX houses and Indian VFX artists themselves have been doing outsourcing for bigger western productions for years under really tight budgets. Now we're getting to the point where they are re investing all that knowledge into their own stuff, and they are doing amazing stuff. Same is happening around the world of game development in china.
@@dungeonmaster6292 That's mostly because of the budget. This is the most expensive Indian movie at 75 million dollars and with the number of vfx shots, a typical hollywood movie would have spent 150 -200 million dollars on it.
I had the opportunity to work on this movie as a VFX lighting lead. Unfortunately, studios like Prana & Rhythm & Hues who worked on Animal fight sequences were shut down during or just before Pandemic hit. Later VFX supervisors got the work done from other VFX studios, they also did an excellent justice to the quality of shots.
Wow ! Someone who actually worked on the VFX of the movie ! Also what do you think about Corridor as someone who works in the industry and watching them ?
isn't R&H in shambles since 'Life of Pie' ?... i remember visiting their studios in Hyderabad during their prime time. i had my friends working there for earlier projects.
You guys are the reason that my friends and I watched RRR.. and now we are obsessed with it and also sooo glad that it has been nominated and also won a Golden Globe! Thank you for introducing us to this amazing movie and genre
Fun Fact: Usually in movies the actors do their shots first and then the animals are cgi'd later. By doing so, the animals are cgi'd to be slower than normal to match w the actors speed. The director SS Rajmouli instead decided to cgi the animals first and in order to create a reference point for how fast they were going he used lasers. The actors had to react accordingly. By doing so, the speed of the animal is more realistic. The amount of dedication from the director is insane.

@@rahulkashiv2299 average American movies are around 90-120 minutes long, Endgame was a very big movie, people were invested in that movie like crazy, the makers can get away with longer runtime with those type of movies.

I think we are often too obsessed with creating a "realistic" environment for movies to seem relatable that we forget the joy of the visual medium. Movies like this reaffirm why film/tv (the visual medium of entertainment) is so valuable. Stories are one thing but if you can embolden them with style and craft, its even more amazing. Thanks for giving Indian movies a chance!
It's not about realism. It's about verisimilitude. If anything can happen then nothing matters... there are no stakes or tension. It turns into random scenes glued together and nothing else. It's literally the lowest common denominator film-making.
RRR is insane! I have an employee from India who mentioned it to me. I watched it alone in my home theater on my 120” screen like a little kid. I’ve been watching Freddie’s videos since he started by the way. Love this

The shot at the end of the movie, where Ram emerges with bow and arrow in the middle of the forest was one of the best, if not the best in the history of cinema!
He played our god Rama portrayal. There was an idol in jungal. It was our god's idol. He is Rama or Ram. Actor name also Ram. God Rama fought with Ravana with his bow. He also same wear same dress during his exile. He was considered as 8th avatar of lord Vishnu. This movies has too many indian symbolism. Actor Ram took gods Rama idol bow and arrow to fight with evil forces which occupied our country. both actors character is based on real freedom fighter. I can't tell u all here in comment. Thanks for your time.

I consider RRR a masterclass on film making. They really knew the tools available to them and utilized them all. Miniatures, drones, sets, blue screen, cgi, crowd and set extensions. Old school stuff like Rahm on the bridge waving down, he's up on a cherry picker with like 5 feet of bridge railing in front of him. And the build out the world around him, but they have something practical to match lighting too, and you get real depth. You never lose focus on where people are, no matter how chaotic it gets. And some of the stuff in there you really do question if its vfx or not. The barbwire show in the street, the rolling tire on fire. The train. So much stuff.
For the interval sequence with animals rajamouli shot for around 65 nights, each night they spent around 75lakhs for the shoot itself... In that interval sequence they had to imagine animals were there n fight accordingly, for that to happen n so that each n every background artist to be in sync with the CG animals rajamouli employed different tactics while shooting which were not even used in Hollywood movies, a) for bear they used a person wearing green blanket, since the movement of bear is slow similar to a human being... b)For shots with tiger, tiger moves much faster than humans, so they can't just place a human with green blanket, so rajamouli positioned laser lights following the head position of the tiger, so that camera man n actors can imagine the position of tiger n act accordingly. c) for wolves they used dogs which were trained to catch a ball, while shooting the sequence they randomly throw the balls in middle of men, so the dogs chase the balls, in that way rajamouli captured peoples reactions to wolves, later on during CG he replaced the dogs with wolves... d) for other fast moving animals like deers, they used remote controlled cars moving in between the actors.... Rajamouli in an interview said in Hollywood movies they get to use very expensive cameras n equipment to get these kind of shots coz they have such huge budgets, but to attempt such shots in limited budget we hv to innovate things (jugaad) to get these shots for a minimal budget... One such innovation is using laser lights to represent animal's head movements, he took the help of IT students to place laser lights where required.. Rajamouli says the reason y most of the times we fail to get the animal shots right is animals in real life move at a fast speed any human could imagine, first we shoot the humans part n then we animate animals, so humans imagine animal coming towards them n act accordingly, but in his imagination animal moves slowly, so while animating animator has to slow down the animal's movements to keep sync with human's reactions, ultimately making the animal move slow, which looks fake for us, for this film what he did is he animated animal shots first n then placed laser lights on the set to reflect animals moving n then shot the scenes... He literally made humans run faster n faster, even in the making video named "Roar of RRR" we can hear him screeming "faster, faster" to Jr.NTR while shooting his intro scene😂😂 For that fire crackers scene he could hv done everything in CG but he chose to go with real fire crackers placed on threads, n later on he enhanced it in CG... There was even a mishap where one fire cracker changed its course n went so close to Ram charan's eye, later in an interview Ram charan jovially said that he was looking for the thread after the scene, he was scared later on realising that there was no thread beside his eye😂😂😂.. Rajamouli explains that we should get 80% of the shot by using real props (fire, smokes, wires, miniatures, fire crackers, water hoses etc), then we should enhance it by CG, if we do everything on CG it looks fake...
16:25 : The Tiger and leopard is a reference to the two heros. In tollywood NT Rama Rao Jr is associated to tiger and Charan is associated to a cheetah or Leopard. So it’s foreshadowing their fight.

I haven't seen anyone mention it, but the fireworks that were meant to be there. That is 100% intentional since it's supposed to be symbolism for Ram being good. The firework that loops around Ram's head is a halo commonly used in depictions of gods and since Ram shares a name with one and is a good guy in the movie, that shot is 105% intentional.

Man I adored this movie. It's just the best mix of wild unbelievable hype moments and a good story. Such a fun ride. They didn't let realism or rules get in the way of just telling a good story a really fun way. Pretty rare now a'days, deserves all the success
It sounds like classical myth or folklore, and there are apparently a lot of reference to mythology and cultural tropes in there. From what I've read it sounds basically like a fairy tale, all of it's story beats have a purpose, and in the tradition of storytelling it is presenting that story in an exciting and beautiful way without worrying so much about deeper logic. It's just something amazing that happens at a time in a place. It sounds great to me and it probably wouldn't have really grabbed my attention without this corridor crew video, but I've been pretty into folklore lately and it's cool to see it true to form and style in a very original modern film. I'll be going into it like an epic poem or something.
There's a lot of Hindu and patriotic symbolism in RRR (and in both Baahubalis too) that is understandably lost on non-natives but really adds to the depth of many scenes. Would love to see an Indian VFX artist on the sofa some day! I see Srinivas Mohan commenting...you know what to do!

From the bottom of my heart, thank you @Corridor Digital. For many reason, but here are the two biggest ones for me: 1. For opening my eyes to the hard work, creativity, and craft that goes into visual/practical effects in films. Without you, I wouldn’t be giving these professionals the admiration they deserve. 2. For helping me accept my pride for Indian films. I enjoyed them, but whenever I tried showing friends they could only remember the “absurdity” from it. Having watched your videos for about a year now, seeing TV shows or movies has never been the same… in a good way! I can appreciate all the details I was blind to before, I can put words to why certain scenes stand out so much, I can explain how some shots work better than others. And I am in no way involved with the film industry! It’s amazing how your channel has the unique ability to teach everyone from any level of knowledge and from any field. As I sat in theaters (2 times) watching this movie, I genuinely felt it was a more enjoyable experience thank to the “curtain” you guys pulled back on film making. Thank you! Growing up, it was hard for me to share my love for Indian cinema with my American friends around me. On one hand, I knew I liked the movies for a reason. But on the other hand, I could see how they would laugh at the movies for being so absurd at times. However, your series shining on spotlight on Bollywood (and all the other -woods) helped it finally click in my head! The movies aren’t trying to compare to other western film, it’s a different genre. Action with more of an anime feel, a bigger suspension of belief for bigger payoffs. Your work means a lot to me, and I hope you guys can continue for a very very long time. Thank you!
One thing that never gets mentioned on this channel is how VFX artists in places like India (and all over the world) are worked into the ground for very little pay to create these shots. I don't think Corridor has ever discussed how companies like Rhythm and Hues went bankrupt because of how thankless this industry can be, especially since they won the Oscar for Life of Pi in that same year. There's too many struggling artists out there, this shouldn't be acceptable.
Yes, I know VFX artists are paid less around the world, but in India it is pretty much the market standard (6 -12 Lakhs per year, $10K-20K per year). I mean, if you want to pay by US standards, then even software engineers in India are paid 1/10th of what they would earn in US for the same piece of code to the same application for decades now ($10K-15k per year). I mean the Tech industry in India is completely cheap than any other nation, that's why many go invest in India. It would be better if the MNCs pay up suitable amounts by international standards for the tech industry in India (atleast half).
@@charanteja_ Completely true. It doesn't change the fact that $10K-$20K is not adequate compensation for the effort of work required. It's not a realistic salary for the expertise and the time required. Not by a mile. VFX artists deserve better.
@@handdrawnbink Actually given that cost of things are a lot cheaper so by indian standards you can live pretty comfortably with tgat salry. ( I have 12 lcs p.a salary). But as tge economy develops and more hifher budget films get made so the salaries will also rise.
I went to school with a handful of friends who went on to become professional VFX artists.. 2 of them don't last at a studio more than 2 years. BONKERS resumes, but they're like the sweatshop labour for compensation VS. what ends up on screen in the majority of mega world-wide blockbusters these days. Chris Hemsworth made like half a billion off of Marvel movies, but the people who make all of his Thor things BE Thor things made a fraction of pennies on the dollar in that same amount of time.
@@dhruvbharija172 the point is this movies are very unique and creative to them just like how much out of the box anime like ghost in the shell and movies like inception are for us. The prison escape scene was my favourite moment. I was home sick from work and put RRR on with no context other than it was a Bollywood movie with some crazy beats and I was not disappointed!!
Some friends and I were in Austin for an event that got cancelled ~3 weeks ago, and that night one of the Alamo Drafthouses was playing RRR for just that night, so we all went. Easily the best theatrical experience I've had in years. Many moments of "bad CG", but like how can you even fault it? Like you said, they play to their strengths and allow the CG to be "bad"/unrealistic in parts where it's just a fun time and it doesn't matter, but it's always superb and non-intrusive during important character moments. Super super well done. And to boot, a movie that has something to say. Disney could never.
Also, some of the studios shut down during the pandemic and the project had to given to different studios with a dead line. For what it became, I'm glad it is what it is.

In that interval sequence they had to imagine animals were there n fight accordingly, for that to happen n so that each n every background artist to be in sync with the CG animals rajamouli employed different tactics while shooting which were not even used in Hollywood movies,
a) for bear they used a person wearing green blanket, since the movement of bear is slow similar to a human being...
b)For shots with tiger, tiger moves much faster than humans, so they can't just place a human with green blanket, so rajamouli positioned laser lights following the head position of the tiger, so that camera man n actors can imagine the position of tiger n act accordingly.
c) for wolves they used dogs which were trained to catch a ball, while shooting the sequence they randomly throw the balls in middle of men, so the dogs chase the balls, in that way rajamouli captured peoples reactions to wolves, later on during CG he replaced the dogs with wolves...
d) for other fast moving animals like deers, they used remote controlled cars moving in between the actors....
He literally made humans run faster n faster, even in the making video named "Roar of RRR" we can hear him screeming "faster, faster" to Jr.NTR while shooting his intro scene😂😂
For that fire crackers scene he could hv done everything in CG but he chose to go with real fire crackers placed on threads, n later on he enhanced it in CG... There was even a mishap where one fire cracker changed its course n went so close to Ram charan's eye, later in an interview Ram charan jovially said that he was looking for the thread after the scene, he was scared later on realising that there was no thread beside his eye😂😂😂.. Rajamouli explains that we should get 80% of the shot by using real props (fire, smokes, wires, miniatures, fire crackers, water hoses etc), then we should enhance it by CG, if we do everything on CG it looks fake...
my god that was long 🔥
Thank you for all this.

It sounds great to me and it probably wouldn't have really grabbed my attention without this corridor crew video, but I've been pretty into folklore lately and it's cool to see it true to form and style in a very original modern film. i am an indian and i just loved how you appreciated all the intricacies that goes behind the shots and how some of them are staple to the tollywood/bollywood.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you @Corridor Digital. For many reason, but here are the two biggest ones for me:
Thank you!
👏👏👏💖💖
Thank goodness you guys got your channel back.
What happened?!?!?
The problem is these stars and production houses eat up allt the Money. Marvel movies would be nothing without VFX artists.
Thanks for appreciating my work. Your words are more than an award for me and my team.
Honestly, it's now my top 3 movies. I had THE biggest smile on my face the whole 3+ hours

Lol only to those whp didn't know about telugu freedom fighters..it hasnt had to do anything to do with mythology
And its true that sitaram raju used to raid arms amd weapons amd had to disguise as lord rama...and it was fictional inspiration of those real life telugu freedom fighters as the whole story is fictional inspiration.. So as bheem characters was inspired from konkan bheem who also was the telugu freedom fight4ter...both of them existed at different times in history and never met in real life ...but this movie is kind of those "what ifs" taking inspiration from real life freedom fighters and also paying respect and homage to them in form of movie ...but a lot of north indians had no idea bout all this and they think it has something to do with religion..and ram's wife name was sita ..bcs the freedom fighter's name was " alluri sitaramraju"..not lord rama and sita but some people may take that way and it jad no religious agendas ...it has no harm like in india its common for people to compare an ideal couple to sita ram atleast in last century
@@knowitall1005 I agree that most of the North Indians don't know that it is a fictional story based on two real freedom fighters but in the movie the climax scenes were inspired from Indian history where Sita Rama Raju is shown as lord Ram and Bheem is shown as lord Hanuman because Bheem 's character is slightly similar to lord Hanuman's character that is very powerful yet innocent and also if you observe the BGM in the climax ( Ramam raghavan) and some dialogues exactly depicts the history. The director Rajamouli has so much love for the Indian history and if you see all of his 12 movies somewhere at the middle most of the scenes were inspired from Indian history the ramayan and Mahabharatam.

Thanks for appreciating man. Just to put perspective here, Black Widow's budget was 200 million USD, while RRR's budget was 72 million USD.
