  • If you want to learn how to fix a faulty heated mirror on a bmw then look no further, though the tips you will learn in this video can be applied to other brands too.
A heated mirror is just a coil of wire that is built according to a certain resistance. Just like those 1980s bar heater fires in your living room the 12v heater core in the mirror works on a similar principle in that if you flow electricity through a resisted wire it will heat up.
You will see how using a resistance measurement is not always fool proof and how thinking on your feet and having access to the correct values that things need to be is really important.

I've got a similar issue - both mirrors do not work in terms of heating. Everything aside is perfect, they fold etc. I measured them and it says 8.2ohm for both. The fuses are okay, however, I cannot get any reading from those connectors that go into the back of the mirrors :/ Measurement always indicates 0V.

It depends what type of mirror. Some are controlled via lin bus. If you open the door harness connectors at the A pillars and check for corrosion on the pins and fault code memory for possible lin bus fault codes

@@allmech_BMW_fault_finding Will do, thanks! The errors I'm getting are 9CC3 & 9CC4. Just to double-check, the cables are directly under the A-pillar cover?

@mcr8858 The door connects to the A pillar with the flexible harness. It is held to the A pillar with a waterproofed cover held by an 8mm bolt. Once it is removed you will find the harness connector inside and in the bottom corner usually is a nice green corroded LIN pin. 9cc3 or 9cba are usually present when LIN is faulty but without seeing the car...
