Its so cool seeing backported mons in gen 1. I really feel like itd be interested to see how xatu would do in gen 1, being psychic flying i feel like it could waltz through the game
Just tossing it out there, but Umbreon has got to be one of the best designed Pokemon ever. Generation 2 Pokemon were about as close to perfect as we’ll ever get. I wonder how this could have gone if you were able to back port Dark pulse into the game, it’s a bit of a bummer how good psychic is compared to faint attack. Either way you were missed, welcome back man! Great video
Thanks! Yeah, pulling newer moves would really help Umbreon out. But I think this just proves that it is great as part of a team, just not to carry on its own. I love it so much though, it’s so cool
Umbreon is a fun edition to gen 1, where psychic rules supreme and fighting and bug moves are barely existent. Umbreon is one of the best tanks in the entire game, and it's a great team player to troll the opposing pokemon, but not a great solo runner. That Brock split and 2 or 3 shoting most of the opposing Pokémons was really slowing it down. That's why I think that in order to speed the Brock split up consider black out training against the junior trainer at Brock's gym,or against Brock himself. Because you'll receive more boosted exp in the end in a shorter time.😊
That’s a great suggestion! I should try to use blackout training more often, but I won first try against the lightyears trainer and then didn’t think of it for Brock. I’ve been using an Umbreon in Legends Arceus for a while to catch wild Pokémon, it has such good utility!
@@m_tiberius Gym Leader Matt is using that a lot ,so it's kind stuck with me.😁 I use Umbreon a lot while doing hardcore nuzlockes. It's a useful wall ,to switch to safely.
I really enjoyed this run. Currently editing my first run with a Dark type too and I had a similar thing going on with the Special stat being not so great.
The Dark type really benefited from the physical/special split. It feels like a mistake that it was all special to begin with based on the stats of all the early Dark Pokémon
@@m_tiberius yeah it seems like they were a bit muddled up with what they wanted to do with it, although the atrocity of no steel types learning steel moves naturally is possibly an even bigger blunder. I’m thinking about maybe adding some extra TMs to handle that when steel type inevitably comes up 😅
Nice run. Unfortunately (or fortunately) the solo running genre is best suited to fast attacking Pokémon for the most part. One thing you could have done for umbreon is to give it 110 special - like jolten, flareon, and vaporeon all had in gen 1 but averaging the special worked too. I'm just imagining giving shuckle 230 special now...😂 Unless that Pokémon is electric type like Jolteon who also happens to be my favourite eeveelution.
Yeah, I was banking on it having fewer resets, but not having its special defense kinda hurt it too. Maybe 110 special would have been the way to go, but it did pretty well either way. A super powered Shuckle with 230 special would be insane! 😂 But maybe I could make an inverted Shuckle in gen 2 where it’s offensive and defensive stats are flipped… interesting…
@@m_tiberiusSo I had a go at the gen 2 shuckle with attacking and defensive stats switched. Right now I'm at rival 2 and it's sucking hard as 230 base attack isn't that good with the bad base power of it's moves Cannot consistently run from wild Pokémon of a much lower level Got one shot by the rival's Croconaw using water gun Sprout tower forced a couple of resets because of bad special defence and HP Shuckle one shot itself in confusion (or at least did a huge amount of damage ko'ing it) And not shuckle's fault but Bugsy's Scyther has never failed to land a fury cutter unlike my wrap
Hi Frost! I’m back and ready to make some content! My voice was still a little funny when recording this voiceover, so you might hear that I was still a little stuffy. I should also be able to stream this Saturday again too
How did you add in dark type? Did you modify a different type with the proper resistances/weaknesses? Or is there enough room in the memory to wholesale add a new type?
I added the type! There is actually enough memory for the new type and all its res/weaknesses to accurately match gen 2. It’s actually easier to add types and moves than a new Pokémon since they take less space than the sprites

Xatu would be so interesting, I will have to do that one in the future
