Snake bites aren't serious, and the rainbow boa is often described as aggressive or nippy when that's really not a fair description. These are awesome pet snakes that a little bit of education can make a huge difference.

This is great! I’m a new snake keeper. After a lot of research, I decided to get a Brazilian Rainbow as my first snake. I’m 56 and was not concerned about their “intermediate” husbandry requirements. I knew I could handle that and my “Herm the Worm” has had perfect sheds and I’ve had him for a year now.
I admit, I was a bit hesitant because of their “nippy” reputation as babies but, honestly, Herm wasn’t too bad. Yes, he tagged me a couple of times the day he arrived, but he’s only even strikes at anything once since and that was my own fault.
He’s about a year old now and is super chill now. I get him out around 3 times a week, but I’m really in tune with his movements and can tell when he’s getting weary and ready to go back into his enclosure (usually around 10-15 minutes).
The main thing I’ve observed with Herm is that he’s pretty shy, including being a bit head shy. But, I’m working with on that and I’ve got him to the point where I can gently rub his head with my thumb and he’s fine.
Bottom line, I love these guys and my experience (limited to my Herm) is that their reputation is bit over stated.
Basically defensive as babies and just generally shy.

I would love to see you guys do a video on enclosure requirements for these guys.
I know they’re generally ground dwellers, but mine climbs pretty regularly into a tree branch I have in his enclosure.
I’m getting ready to seek out permanent enclosure for him as he’s little over 3’ now. I was thinking about the Zen Habitats 4x2x4 to give him extra climbing room, but that would make it harder to maintain humidity requirements so no I’m thinking 4x2x2.
      Thoughts?

@@RocketDaryl I think your instincts are right about maintaining humidity and heat in a 4’ tall enclosure! Difficult.
They seem to really make use of ledges and shelves. I think a 4x2x2 is an awesome size. If you’re really looking to make something fancy, go longer or wider, otherwise you’re going to really need to have some technical tricks to get the heat and humidity in a taller cage.
Also on my channel is a pretty great panel on husbandry and another panel with some really great enclosure guys.
      Thanks for watching!
