@OAbaica What you're thinking of is the movies. In reality, piranha are pretty docile fish and don't have these "feeding frenzies" as soon as you get in the water
Piranha rarely do "piranha type things." I'm surprised they went after the mouse at all. If you want something that is cute AND does piranha type things, look for pea, leopard, or green eyed puffers, depending on your geographical location and the pet store they could be called any of these. Start with a pack of at least 7 or 8 and watch the carnage.
Yes, Oscars will eat.....anything but I've always found them to be MESSY eaters. I've never been a big fan. Stores will sell baby Tiger Oscars, which look cool and seem on the surface to be easy to take care of, to people buying their 1st ten gallon and not tell them that the fish will outgrow the tank in a couple months and other important information about their purchase.
Me and my dad had Oscar's for 17 years. Awesome fish and can be trained and played with to a certain extent, my dad always messed with them with his fingers and they'd play and bite them. Yeah they totally get way bigger than people think, we usually had about 3 in a 250 gallon
You should never feel ashamed you're learning the behavior of the species and as well as I am by watching this video so keep putting out good content like you are much appreciation
@@shroomgod1990 Josh is right, they freeze them. That’s why the limbs are pulled into the body. Any other method would have them spread out and that’s not very marketable 😓
The real reason it took them so long is that if something is floating at the surface, even if it splashes sporadically, it's possibly just a log, the only way to set off piranhas is blood, they associate blood with something edible, which is why it is actually possible to swim with piranhas and they won't attack you. Next time you want to feed them something dead, you need to cover it in blood, so they'll have that association.
Depends on the type of piranhas... we tested this theory many times with my old roommate's angel piranhas and it never got them going, at least not with us in the room watching. We tried various ways to try and get them to feed in front of us, but they only ever ate food after we left the room, with or without blood in the water.
My brother had a pirhana once. It wouldnt eat anything he fed it and eventually it died. One day many years later he was watching a david Attenborough programme about the Amazon. It showed a veggie piranha that only ate fruit and nuts. My brother just said aaah!
No, no you've got to start Screaming..Piranhas only come and eat when they hear the Screams of Sheer Terror from whatever poor soul happens to be floating nearby..
I used to be a volunteer at an aquarium in New York. My job was to feed the piranha tank with smelts, but I was told to squeeze the air out of it so it would sink to the bottom.
I bought a couple black piranhas when I was a teenager & I had to put a divider in the tank to keep them from eating each other. The first two I brought home immediately started fighting & one of them lost a fin & started floating upside down. I went back to the shop & the guy gave me another fish with a divider & they still were eating through the screen divider. Sadly a couple weeks after that we had the worst ice storm I can remember causing power outages that lasted almost 3 weeks so they froze to death while me & my family were in Florida.
As blood worms aren't sinking food, they create a cloud of deliciousness, when thawed and poured, into the tank. I think it'd be a fun feeding to watch. I know my fish loved it!😁👍
Pretty sure even if he filled them in a pool and took a dive naked, they would not attack him. Unless it's a Red Bellied or Black Piranhas species, every single other type Piranha will only react to dead prey or blood. People usually are not aware, but most Piranha are very tame, it's these 2 species that are hyper agressive;
I worked as an electrician for a few months at a fish farm about 10 years ago - they had piranhas and asked if I wanted to see their feeding time… They put two goldfish into the aquarium - both were gone in less than 30 seconds
Once in high school biology class we had 2 large piranhas in a tank and we put a bullhead into the tank and they went crazy with that bullhead. It was gone in about a minute.
We used to hold Friday night fish fights in college We would bet on which goldfish his Oscar would eat by color Nothing better than hitting the trifecta 😀
I had an oscar that lived peacefully with 10 piranha, and he would grab stuff that floated and bring it to the mid-level where the piranha would attack and the oscar would get his mouthful and whatever landed on the bottom and they got the rest.
Red Bellied Piranhas aren’t generally aggressive and don’t do the piranha type things seen in movies/tv. Black Piranhas, however, are highly aggressive pack feeders and are more likely to do piranha type things like those seen in movies/tv.
