With the exception of Paul McGann not getting at least 1 season as The Doctor, the biggest "what if" missed opportunity Doctor Who will ever have was Capaldi not getting a 4th season as The Doctor with Missy as his companion (alongside Bill and Nardole). I feel that would have been the ultimate TARDIS team as you would have the tragic hero (Capaldi knowing it's his final season), the romantic foil (Missy trying to be The Doctor's friend again), the exposition (Bill), and the likable comic relief (Nardole).

I loved Nardole. i think he's my fave companion character. I loved the fact that he DIDN'T want to go on adventures, he just wanted to relax and hang out at the university and have tea, but he felt obligated to watch after the Doctor. It created a great character dynamic, and he and Capaldi played off each other perfectly.
i don’t think there will ever be another companion like nardole who was able to actually keep up with the doctor’s mind to some degree and understood so well how lonely the doctor was but also had the full right to put him in his place

Should have had at least as long as the Ponds. But it was important for Twelve's character development that Clara stuck with him, Missy had to do some Master-level villainy to be accepted and start her arc, and by that point Capaldi knew his performance would get worse if he kept going, so we just got a couple fantastic episodes.

I always remember people disliking nardole when these episodes aired but this duo was one of my favourite parts of series 10. Their interactions and back & forths always make me laugh
It took me a little while to warm to Nardole, but once he began travelling with the Doctor and Bill full-time, I grew to love him. By the end of the series I didn't want him to go! He had a very unique relationship with the Doctor. Their friendship felt really special because it was River Song who brought them together. And I think the way that he called the Doctor "sir" was rather sweet.
I can’t believe to this day how much I enjoyed Nardole post-Husbands of River Song. I HATED him in that special, and then he became a truly phenomenal part of one of the best TARDIS teams there’s ever been.
Peter Capaldi and Matt Lucas had amazing chemistry, and Pearl Mackie was just as wonderful with them. Haven't seen actor chemistry like that since Tennant and Tait.
12 will always be my favorite Doctor. He was awesome! A bit Malcolm Tucker and a lot of Time Lord. I only wish we could have been introduced to his family when he returned to Gallifrey; he had waited so long for them; the return seemed a bit callous.

Season 10 had some quite good episodes... Knock knock, oxygen, extremis, World enough and time, the doctor falls. I didn't think pyramid at the end of the world was too bad either

His complete inability to commit to killing a character, his needless exposition and his constant need to reuse the angels and River were a complete drain on me. Both his doctors were saved by their last seasons and by the incredible talents of the two actors alone
Nardole is certainly the mother of twelve, they both liked each other but kept disturbing each other, twelve was always stubborn and nardole always reprimanded him for something he had done wrong.
