In November of 1979 we named our new baby daughter Amanda. We called the local radio station and had them play this song as we were driving her home from the hospital. Great memories!

Fourteen years later I found my soul mate,my best friend, my now husband. He sang Waylin Jennings. "Amanda" to me in front of his entire family and I knew that he was the love of my life and he was the one! 24 years later I'm still so very in love with him

I used to sing the chorus of this song to my niece Amanda when she was an infant. She's 25 years old now and I still sing it at her sometimes when I want to be annoying.

This is real music, music with a meaning and often something to teach you, music that make you reflect and meditate, music that penetrates into ur brain and ur heart.
I remember one time i rode my motorbike to a little church, on top of a hill, i sat on a park bench, i weared my earphones an i started playng luckenbach texas, and song by song, between the Highwaymen, kris kristofferson, merle haggard, waylon, cash, arlo guthrie and willie nelson in one minute the afternoon passed away, listening to great music and watching the sea below.
This is music, all the rest is an amusing noise.

My name is Amanda ,but I was almost aborted ,but thanks to this song & the soap opera ( back in the day ) One life to live ...I am here ,but my dad passed a lil over 18 & a half year's ago & my mama just passed almost 4 month's ago ,very unexpectedly so we're having a rough time right now !
Surprisingly ,I'm 40 now & still love wearing my jeans & so does my hubby & our kiddo's too ,lol ! 🤣

This was always the song I had planned on dancing with my Dad to at my wedding...I never had the chance, he died of cancer 11 yrs ago. I don't listen 2 this song often anymore but once in a while, it'll pop into my head, just out of nowhere & I feel compelled 2 play it...like "I REALLY REALLY HAVE 2 LISTEN 2 THIS SONG RIGHT NOW," kind of feeling. So, I always do just that. More often than not, it occurs when I'm having a really hard time & struggling & ready 2 just give up. And I truly believe it's my Dad's way of telling me he's still there 4 me, like he always was when he was alive. I always feel better after I listen 2 it. My Daddy didn't raise no fucking quitter...thanx, Dad. I love u & miss u. Always. 💜🖤💜
Oh, and Waylon died on my 35th bday. I was devastated...🥺I stayed home & drank beer with my Dad & we listened 2 all the old vinyl LPS that I was raised on... Waylon, Willie, Johnny Cash, Buddy Holly(his fave), Elvis, Kenny Rogers...it turned out 2 b one of the best bdays I've ever had...

Your statement about Waylon being lead guitarist for Buddy Holly is incorrect. That was Tommy Allsup and Waylon played bass.
Yeah, I misspoke there. I was a big Buddy Holly fan, but didn't know Waylon, but later when Waylon got on the charts, I was telling a friend how I liked his music, that's when he told me he played guitar for Buddy Holly. anyway, thanks for correcting me.
Crazy how many of these songs are better than the studio recorded versions!
Because the studio recordings of the songs are unnatural there they are now incredibly played with they can do anything they want to with it but a natural song sung on a stage with a guitar and no other way to change it it's the way the song You're supposed to be song. Songs are not supposed to be engineer you're supposed to come from naturally from the artist most musically and they're demeanor so enjoy it you're lucky you got these.
I think this is one of the prettiest songs Waylon sings.

I first heard him sing this song about 3hrs after I got the news of my 15 year daughter Amanda was killed in a car accident. It means the world to me

Remember in the past you never had Studio recordings it was all live acapella was an instrument. That is real music making this whole recording studio business is is a lot of other people and what they think his music to the original musicians outfits. I don't know why you would think me studio version is better. Give me that old time music. Give me live music. Give me an adulterated music. I don't know who would take a studio recording is better than the library they really don't know they really don't know music. Live music forever.
It always amazes me , the caliber of music that comes from collaborative bands like the Highwaymen, the Outlaws, the Wallflowers, the Traveling Wallburys, CSNY, etc. to name a few.....
