He gave shirou the win in ubw, after the reality marble ended he straight up acknowledged Shirou as the winner of the fight despite being the only one still standing 💯💯💯

This fight and Cu vs Gilgamesh are the main reasons I want a Ufotable Fate Route adaptation. I really want to see what they would come up with in regards to actually giving these fights screentime.

One of the reasons I want to see it given a proper adaptation is because a lot of people downplay Cu by saying stuff like "he was hard carried by protection from arrows, that's the only reason he stood a chance," and it really feels like ignoring how strong Cu actually is.

With all these feats I have no idea how there are Emiya down players out there. It’s like yeah he’s not the strongest in terms of raw power and unga bunga fighting ability but time and time again he proves that he can contend with them in an abstract way that’s unique to him
I agree but the problem is that many emiya fanboys make him out to be an s tier servant when he really isn´t. His versatility allows him to take on characters he shouldn´t be able to take on but there is a point where versatillity alone just isn´t enough. Herc is a prime example. Emiya is a hard counter to him because of his versatillity but the difference in raw power is just to great to be overcome by versatillity alone.

@@Warrion9876 It wasn't a hard counter. Shirou tracing Herc's weapon and using a superior version of Herc vs.......Herc was hard-countering him. All EMIYA did in the fight was fight a CQB fight with more effort than he usually does. The only aspect of countering Herc was his ability to not have Herc's resistance be an auto-win for him like it is with most of the other characters. What likely happened was that EMIYA probably outperformed Herc, but was getting injured in the process, and well, Herc has 12 lives.
There's also Emiya wankers in abundance.

EMIYA has always had the capacity to take on pretty much any servant and hold his own well. The problem he has is that UBW is a Noble Phantasm that is tailor-made to fight against Gilgamesh and his Gates of Babylon. Unless he's fighting against someone with a similar NP to Gates of Babylon, like Nobu's 300 Muskets, he is simply rendered into a jack-of-all-trades, master of none servant. What truly defines EMIYA as being absolutely cracked is the fact that he knows this about himself and he's able to adapt his kit through sheer skill of arms. This is what makes every servant who has fought EMIYA respect him so much - through adversity, he perseveres and overcomes by skill alone.
You literally forgot Emiyas most Broken Ability which is down Right terrifying Because he can copy stats, Skills,History of ANy NP He Projects and can use it anytime he wants. Emiya with his analysis can tell the weakness and Strength oF Servant in one Glance. He cant abuse this ability because of his limited ManaPool Thats why he is a B Tier servant

The fact that this actually true in lore is one the biggest points against Nasu's writing. Man can write detailed characters and stories but he's really bad at keeping a coherent Power system. Logicly UBW being a faster omni directional version of the gate of Babylon should be enough to completely overwhelm most servants but it's treated as if it somehow doesn't do that when he's not fighting Gilgamesh.

Be honest if EMIYA was allowed to have a legend he'd be part of the legendary tier heroic spirit type.
And this guy went toe to toe with legendary heroes with just his skills since he's been nerfed by being a counter guardian.
Funniest Part is that It was implied that Emiya was much stronger when he was alive(i dont remember the exact time but it was stated in Material of UBW if i am not wrong)

I mean the moon cell probably allowed him to see a lot of noble phantasms he didnt have a chance to as just a counter guardian so that he could place them into UBW. I feel like the reason he sticks to the much smaller range of them in stay night is just cause he very rarely got called on by the counter force to places where other heroic spirits were present, so he treasured those weapons he could actually bare witness to
according to the data books from extella, the moon cell allowed nameless to do things he couldn't do in a normal war. Like projecting Excalibur image and using it without hurting himself
@@danboii137 Half correct except its not that mooncell allowed it but all Servants in Mooncells gets infinite amount of mana(because of it having different rules) and are less restricted(Since the mooncell can restore the world instantly) thats why Emiya doesnt have to worry about mana which was his biggest issue with Projecting Excalibur
@@cephery8482 we actually know that hes had those weapons from before the moon cell. One of the swords that gilgamesh fires out of the gate of babylon is excalibur galatine so we can definitively say that he has had it because nameless is post grail wars emiya. That also means hes had gae bolg. the only one we dont know where he picked it up out of the three is nero's aestus estus.

If EMIYA is not limited by the plot, he'd be a very tough opponent to face in a Holy Grail War. His cold and calculating attitude means that he lacks the pride and arrogance that limits many heroes while his projection would also allow him to instantly learn the true names of most servants by tracing their weapons. Now he has his skills and arsenal to utilize in order to find the most effective way to win.

A reminder that Emiya only fought in his own terms and was wise enough to keep some things hidden unless a threat to the balance is suspected. He didn't value himself, he was willing to die. He didn't want others to see what he could do, because he felt he didn't measure up to the "heroes" he was summoned alongside.

I love the fact that we don't know how Emiya defeats Berserker 6 times in Fate, because then we play UBW and realize that 1) as Shirou, he knows how Herc fights and what it's needed to win against him and 2), he has a stupidly strong NP that can put even Gilgamesh on the ropes. So the fight finally makes perfect sense.
UBW is not really op, it's far from "very good" it's just that Gilgamesh and Herc have some odd conditions that's why UBW is effective to them.

For Gil, it was a hard counter, but the reason why it's a hard counter is because UBW really does temporarily give him Gil levels of firepower temporarily and it's better in CQB. Herc fight had no condition. EMIYA was just a strong CQB fighter and it was odd to him that he had so many high level techniques. There's no other details than that.

Let me add some other theoretical options for killing Herc. You mentioned the possibility of him using Excalibur, the draw back it would be a death for Emiya as well. But what if instead of EXcalibur, he could have opted to use regular Calibur? The predecessor. That one while not as powerful as the former it would theoretically not take Emiya own life to make unlike Excalibur. I mean OG human Shirou Emiya can make it even tho he’s less experience in his tracing power, I see no logical reason why Archer Emiya can’t do it too. For either to get off one or two lives. Or he could use it the entire fight. Just spit balling here.
Another option I could see Archer using. Gáe Bolg. Now I know what you’re thinking. Can Archer even make Gáe Bolg? And most importantly can he even use its Noble Phantasm? I’m inclined to say…yes to both. Tho I’m not sure if it will be an Excalibur situation which meaning if it will take his life to do. But even if it does. He can use it for the for LAST kill. Or last resort to take one final life before disappearing.
Caliburn only demonstrates that level of power when used by Saber and Gae Bolg can't harm Heracles unless Cu using the original full strength version buffs it with his runes.

@@blake3472 Durandal is better than Caliburn for EMIYA for sure but do remember that Caliburn can match Excalibur for one shot then break but only when wielded by Artoria.

Also I want to mention. That before Shirou gave Calibur to Saber, I recalled a scene where Shirou cuts off Berserker hand by himself. So with that evidence it's has enough power while being wield by Artoria to cut his skin. Or was that just a Filler scene that the animators throw in to extend the fight?
So essentially Emiya's bag is just busted and we need to recognize he's one of the realest in the game.
Emiya’s literally the TYPE-MOON OC ,, even his Shirou version was the first and only being ,, heroic spirit or otherwise in the animes and games (to my knowledge) to even somewhat threaten Gilgamesh outside of maybe Enkidu and the Chains of Heaven ,, who’s considered to be the God of Spirits and ,, up until the introduction of Shirou Emiya ,, possibly the most broken and OP being to ever live . and it’s literally only because his Noble Phantasm ,, Unlimited Blade Works ,, was a Reality Marble literally crafted by TYPE-MOON to be the perfect counter for The Gate of Babylon (Gilgamesh’s Noble Phantasm) .

Counter gaurdian emiya would have realistically been stronger than Archer emiya.
Being a servant probably even nerfed him from his original power, plus he doesn't have a legend and the fame to increase his strength like other servants.

Yeah Emya's matchups are weird. His stats are so meh its hard to give him anythingbut a b rank. But his skillset is so good Ex servants still have a hard time. No matter who you are taking down Emya is just such a chore.
If Given the Right Condition he can Actually defeat Ex Tier servants even though he is nothing more than a B tier Servant. But at the same time his Ability to Copy stats of Projected weapons makes his Base Stats Deceptive because he can change them anytime he wants without difficulty thats why its hard to Rank him

Personally I think that Heracles kinda got nerfed in most his fights as Nasu made a character that only one or 2 characters could even beat him, so he made a bunch of different ways which are kinda lore breaking
(Like caliburn which is b rank increasing in rank or nine lives which is a technique being able to be copied by Emiya)
@@Nekogami04 it’s not that nine lives is used to take live’s ( I’m fine with that especially considering it’s in lore origins) it’s that someone else was able to use that np in the first place as that version of the np was a technique not a physical weapon and the explanation given (Emiya copying the weapons history) also doesn’t make sense since Herk is unable to use nine lives as a berserker and the weapon he uses is one acquired after summoning

Well Nine Lives was only able to kill Herc because of what the Shadow had done to his body. It doesn’t show it in the movie but in the VN during the fight with Saber Alter the Shadow appeared and wrapped itself around Herc, in order to continue fighting and protect Illya he literally had to peel of his own skin in order to escape. God Hand is a conceptual NP imbued upon his skin without it he is no longer immune to attacks that aren’t A rank and he loses his adaptability to things that killed him previously. He still retains the revival portion of his NP but against a grail empowered saber alter alongside his inability to use a majority of his techniques and solely rely on his brute strength simple attacks it would only be a matter of time until he’s weakened enough for the Shadow to fully engulf him. When he was under grail corruption he was still missing his skin so Shirou was only to use nine lives and take his remaining lives.
Also about the whole Caliburn being able to take multiple lives, to me that made sense. To people who don’t fully understand the power of NP’s as a simple C rank NP has the fire power of a A rank attack. Considering that Caliburn was a A+ NP alongside it being classified as an anti-army NP and not an anti unit it would be reasonable to assume that it would be able to kill Herc 6 times over, doubly so when you considered it was activated when it was literally inside Herc’s gut.

Archer: Shirou Emiya after a literally indeterminate amount of time and training with magecraft to become a fighter on par with renowned heroes of legend. Has access to literally every physical Noble Phantasm any Shirou Emiya in any timeline has ever seen ever in the history of ever.

Of all of the bullshit in Fate this is by far the bullshittiest. Nasu Moment.
To be fair, Archer had been injured by Saber earlier in the route, which meant he was already weak when he fought Heracles. And he was bound to a master, meaning he couldn't afford to be reckless with his projection otherwise it would drain Rin and possibly kill her, so he couldn't whip out too many high-ranking NPs (note how, except for Caladbolg, he only used Kansho and Bakuya). He was mainly just stalling for time, and had no intention to actually beat Heracles. Plus, he was at a disadvantage in terms of location and stats, going up against a Berserker servant with A ranked abilities in an enclosed space. He was heavily limited in what he could use, especially since any weapon he uses has its stats reduced, unlike Gil's G.O.B. He could use Broken Phantasms, but those require a lot of mana, which again would put Rin at risk. Not to mention, his broken phantasms can cause massive damage and could end up harming Illya, who he was actively avoiding, whereas Gil kept Heracles on the defensive by targeting Illya, allowing him to get free shots in.
Shirou is definitely unrealistic, but he did have help from Saber, who as we know, can use her Mana Burst ability to massively enhance her attacks. She most likely used her Mana Burst to enhance Caliburn, allowing it to take all 7 of Heracles' lives. I highly doubt Shirou would have been able to do much on his own, or if he did, it would only be like 2 or 3 lives at best. Archer had some severe handicaps coming in to that fight, but he made the most with what he had, and being able to kill Herc 6 times in a row, while having no legend buffs, and average stats, is a testament to how strong EMIYA actually is
In fate route i think archer doesn't remeber much of himself before and i really donlt think he manage to use ubw against herc at all. Pretty sure he beat him through just pure projection while being ingured my saber beforehand

2:00 Nasu basically retconned his own stuff because it would make Herc too OP. In the original Novel most likely Saber Alter just killed him multiple times in one big Excaliblast and/or stab or something like that. Like how Shirou took a ton of his lives in one shot with Caliburn as you said. OG text is basically that Berserker gain 100 Resistance to anything that hits him which isn't theoretically perfect defense if someone goes "above maximum" but will negate the vast majority of things.
its funny that salter actually can lost if herc doesnt get corrupted. she ran out of ways to kill herc even with the retcon.
herc god hand is way too busted especially in grail war setting.
One thing that we all got to remember is that canonically, Emiya is the only servant who has done this feat "properly" multiple times, and without any external help + a clearly disadvantaged state (being locked fighting on an enclosed space vs a Berserker)
Other one would be Vanilla Saber but it was only 1 life
Shirou got help from Rin and Saber in the fate route, its basically a gangb*ng so to say and even with Saber on their side she still couldnt do anything except help shirou trace Caliburn with the power of love
Heavens Feel Shirou used Archer's arm
Saber Alter was able to do so because of her infinite Mana supply from Sakura, a proper master would probably be drained as hell with a morgan or two and thats assuming theyre a proper Magus, hell maybe even less
Gil Touched the mud and was basically Reincarnated, no master to worry about either unlike Herc who was constantly protecting Illya during their fight
Ritsuka and his servants in Okeanos needed to set traps and lure him in
You can argue the prillya gang but im not keen on it because class cards basically just lets you borrow a fraction of a heroic spirit's power so it depends if you count that or not
The blasts that Saber Alter used against Heracles were her mana burst skill not Excalibur which she only used at the end of the fight for the giant explosion.

I rewatched their fight not too long ago. And then this video came out
Emiya is pretty much the Batman of Heroic Spirits. While most other Heroic Spirits are demi god, dragon blood or famous figure, this guy is just a random human with third rate magecraft, persistence and a dream that somehow able to stand toe to toe against other servants even though servant statwise he should be a low tier due to him not even being a standard heroic spirit and lack of legend or fame.

One thing of note that I liked is that both the VN and the anime showed Emiya standing up before vanishing, and Heracles bleeding out like a pin cushion of swords. Emiya didn't lose to Heracles, the dude just straight up burned through all his and Rin's mana and vanished.

He could have won that fight, period. EMIYA, is a way too complete Servant, for not having ONE chance to win. Worst case scenario, he could have went for the suicide attack, reproducing Excalibur killing Heracles and dying himself in the process.
Let’s be honest, he lost this fight for ONE main reason: “Plot”
Considering how Shirou with a fraction of Emyia's power took 9 lives from Berserker in an instant, it would stand to logic EMYIA should've been able to take all 12.

Saber wouldn't be able to hurt/kill him because saber herself is a human with no divinity and B strength. God Hand protects him against anything that isn't divine or under A rank. Achilles might be able to hurt Heracles with bare fists, because he is part divine and has B+ strength.
But I doubt this would be enough to inflict lethal damage since Heracles body is extremely robust even without God Hand.
But theoretically after Achilles would take one of his lives bye beating him to death he would get resist against kicks and punches.

I just think that gaining resistance to most Basic form of atak is just wierd.
I liked it beter for avenger Acildes and his Lion skin armor where any man made wepons are nulified but unarmd ataks are fine.
For me it just make sense that pure strength just works.

My head cannon is he used caliburn after spamming all his abilities that are A rank opens up and opportunity and hits him but he is to fatigued and only takes a few life’s like 2
i whould say emiya used ubw but did not use all his wepons in his reality marbel like oath under snow shirou did
because he clashed with EA and held his own for a while granted he did loose the clash but it is still EA he clashed with and i doubt that even if Heracles had all his 12 lives he whould have survived EA
Does a broken phantasms use that much extra mana? I was under the assumption it sacrifices the weapons stability to give it a one time burst in power.
Also, do we know every broken phantasm creates a large explosion? Because I thought the arrow in the Deen Fate route that changes from a spiral shape to a more traditional arrow shape was a broken Caladbolg.

Even tho Emily's skills with weapons might not be as good as Diarmuid or Saber's and his physical parameters are not as overwhelming like Heracles or Achilles, I often forget how versatile his arsenal in weapons is and what impact it can have in any battle.
He has access to a lot of different strategies, in close range or long range combat.
We saw how much Saber struggled against Herc on the graveyard and she coughed only one opening with Caliburn.
Emiya had to land a clean hit on him 6 times.
If Caliburn or Excalibur didn't take multiple lives, she would never be able to get this far.
Tbh you cant exactly Judge Emiya on Stats Parameter because his Stats are Deceptive, Since he can change his stats easily by using traced NP and skills of traced weapons, by overcharging his Magic circuits, Reinforcement,etc
Saber was nerfed in the graveyard and saying without Excalibur she wouldn't have gotten far makes no sense since the same could be applied to any servant and their noble phantasm. Would Emiya have gotten far without UBW/Projection? Would Gil have gotten far without GoB?

okay but can we talk about how broken saber wouldve been if she had her true noble phantasm in these newer fates
Emiya was never going to win this fight for two reasons:
1) Limited Kill Conditions: Requiring A-Rank or higher NP's to even SCRATCH Heracles means the weapons at Emiya's disposal are severely limited, even using Broken Phantasm/UBW-combo cheats. Most NP's are B-rank or lower, only the truly exceptional are A-Rank or higher. Start getting into EX-Rank, you start dealing with Divine Constructs more often than not, which Emiya theoretically CAN Trace, but the cost would be so absurdly high that he'd off himself doing so.
I would argue that God Hand is far more insidious than we give it credit for: If Heracles receives enough damage to 'take' one of his lives, God Hand ensures that he cannot die from the same attack again. This is arguably for both weapon AND damage type. Question is, how far does it go? Obviously it doesn't make him immune to all sword attacks if he gets killed with a sword, but how about the same sword? Seems to not be the case, as Salter was able to kill him several times with Ex. Morgan, using several attacks, none of which were negated by God Hand. So that means that only Damage Type is affected. So Emiya can kill Herc by, say, cutting his head off, which is decapitation. After that, he'd become immune to death by decapitation. If Emiya then detonated a Broken Phantasm in his face, that would likely blow his head off...but is that decapitation, or death by brain destruction...maybe both? So would one be negated, but the other still go through, taking another life?
Now you start to see the complications: mid-fight, you have to try and figure out different ways to kill someone who's nigh-invulnerable, and becomes even more so with every 'death' you inflict upon them. It becomes an increasingly uphill battle if you're trying to take out 12 lives individually, one after the other. The only way to counter this is to eradicate multiple lives with a single blow, like Gil using Enuma Elish, or Goetia using Ars Almadel Salomonis. Emiya, to my knowledge, does not have the ability to do so, the only possibility being UBW pulling a 'Gate of Babylon' and raining A-Rank NP's on him...which leads into our second reason.
2) Limited Magical Energy: People in the comments have gone on and on about "Emiya's Output is X" or "Emiya's Supply is Y", completely forgetting that at the end of the day, he did NOT have enough magical energy to kill Herc 12 times over. Definitively not by himself, and it would only be possible if he was linked to someone who had infinite magical energy reserves, like Sakura. Bro could then fire with impunity, emptying the smithy until Herc was ground beef on the barren wasteland of UBW. Without someone who could provide him a large supply of magical energy, it's impossible for him to pull that kind of stuff off, even if he attempted to trade his Spirit Core for more power in a sacrificial move.
Given the conditions of the fight, and given how disadvantaged Emiya was, there was simply no outcome where he could conceivably win. Period.
You forgot the most important point that Emiya's Spirit Core was Damaged in that Fate Route Thanks To Artoria who attacked him earlier after her summon, Which is Also the reason he was heavily limited on what he can do both with Mana he has left in Damaged core and the limited body moment he can do with While maintaining himself

He actually does have a Legend But it wasnt Just as Big as others to be recognized as a Proper Heroic Spirit(and it took years after he got recognized as one) + He was summoned in wrong Timeframe in Staynight since his Legend doesnt exist yet thats why he was even more nerfed than usual
I am still in shock that Emiya only took 6 lives but Shirou's budget Excalibur took 7. (Though maybe I missed something since i only watched the anime)

How strong is emiya truly
Going by interview matchups by Nasu. Stronger than Kojirou on anything but a fight that's purely CQB fight (so yes, you can scale him off of that), and able to stalemate/fight on par with Medusa or a full-powered Saber. Story wise is also implied to be able to beat Cu if he starts at range given that EMIYA literally blocks Cu's way home in HA, and he says earlier that he'd be willing to fight if someone challenges him.

I’m curious. Is Archer the same character in every Fate route? As in the Shirou Emiya who became a heroic spirit? Or are there multiple Archers in every route?
My head canon is that because Archer is summoned into every universe by the Grail, he ends up losing his memories for a small amount of time and ends up considering the idea of killing Shirou in that universe. Except in Heaven’s Feel, where he sees a different version of himself who is willing to walk away from the dangerous path he set down on.
Yes, Archer is the same in every route. His memories are fragmented due to Rin's botched summoning, but he remembers enough to know that he wants to kill Shirou to try and erase himself. His goal is the same in each route, but circumstances differ, which affects what he does.
In fate, Saber injures him, which prevents him from being able to enact his plan to kill Shirou since he spends most of it recovering, and possibly observing Shirou's relationship with Saber changes his mind, as he sees that the similarities between them may help Shirou abandon his path.
In UBW, he is not injured due to Shirou unintentionally using a command seal on Saber, he goes on to try and kill Shirou, but Shirou's passion and determination to continue on his path regardless reminds Archer of why he went down that path to begin with.
In HF, he is again injured, and upon seeing that Shirou is willing to abandon being a hero of justice to save Sakura, sacrifices himself to save Shirou's life and give him the tool he needs to save Sakura.
