- Not really too much talk on here about Archer's arm. The movie might lead you to believe that Shirou had it easy, but it was no cakewalk. A core component to Fate/Stay Night Heavens Feel.

Honestly one of the biggest flaws of the HF movies was not showing just how much pain Shirou was in the entire time. It simply doesn't convey Shirou's inhuman determination; having his body being pierced by swords from inside, having his brain melt every time he projects as he loses his precious memories. And he still kept fighting to save Sakura.
Also, it's such a shame that Ufotable didn't animate Sparks Liner High as an OVA. Shirou's most badass moment in the VN, where he pushes the strength borrowed from Archer's arm to the absolute limit to defeat Saber, even if he dies.
I’m noticing a sad pattern when it comes to Shriou’s character with ufotable
Plus the fact he lost so much is what hurts the most when he sees Ilya sacrificing herself and breaks down yelling her name over and over.
I think the rushed ending, for both HF and Solomon is the more outrageous one. Important information is skipped because of the damn timelimit.
Fate should stick to Seasonal format. I take bad animation over, than leaving essential information out.

Didn't they literally make 8 movies for KnK when they were a starting studio, had less budget and experience? I appreciate the great animation but honestly coming from the novel I'd rather have great storytelling than great action scenes, unfortunately Ufotable when it comes to Fate thinks otherwise.

Besides, EMIYA without master support can still clap Heracles more than most servants, and clap Kojiro, Arturia, and Medusa just as many times as they can him(or more, really). Extraverse also reminds people why Fate is still more than just rock paper scissors.

The scariest part of Archers arm for me was when Shirou would just go into a mini-coma for hours and wake up without remembering what happened.The memories deterioration was such an awesome factor for using the arm,like ''The greater the power,the greater the cost'' and thats why HF is my favorite route,Shirou's action has extreme consequences!
Ikr? Nasu does a great job into making you feel in Shirou's shoes. It's less like a coma and more like he's doing all these things consciously but when he's done he forgets all about it, and IMO it's way scarier that way than just losing consciousness. It really is a terrifying moment for the reader, it's like actively losing and taking back control of your grip of reality, only to lose it again in a cycle that deteriorates your brain more, and (maybe) unintentionally makes you experience how Alzheimer's is kind of like.
That was one of the scariest parts for me i literaly feelt shivers ...amazing!
In FATE Route Shirou pass through emocional pain,in UBW extreme indentity crisis and in HF extreme physical damage that fuck with his mind as well

It really hurts that some people didn’t know that while Shirou was fighting Berserker he was literally destroying his mind and after that he had to go to a point where he had to hurt himself to stay conscious so he wouldn’t fall asleep afraid that he wouldn’t wake up.
ufotable is a pure trash studio. They can't into art, they can't into music, they can't into writing and thay can't into character relationships.
And their animation is nothing but 3D trash with flashy effects and crazy camera movement. They're the epitome of the soulless meme.

With all that's happened and the context clues I genuinely think Archer's consciousness was still there with Shirou and he could only control the arm and occassionally spoke. ex: when he obtained the gem necklace.
There was a part where the arm batted away kirei's hand when he tried to help but shirou looked confused after he did it. The arm knows that kirei is full of it lol

@@TsiahIV Frankly, I absolutely hate and Despise the UBW Route, as well as Rin Tohsaka and Archer himself.
The real pain Shirou suffered because of the arm was having to choose who was his "master" shortly afterwards receiving it in the VN.
If he chooses Tohsaka, he will be denying one of the last moments of satisfaction Illya wil have. If he chooses Illya, he wil be forever branded as a lolicon and waste of human space in Tohsaka's mind.

One of the best parts about Nine Lives Blade Works is the aftermath. As they're going home, the music changes erratically and feels unfitting, the time of the day progresses really rapidly which made me think my game was bugging out. I soon realised that the game wasn't bugging out, this was Shirou's mental state collapsing due to the feat he just accomplished with the tax that projecting with that arm had on him.
god heaven's feel was too good for it's own right, such a shame that nasu pussied out from the original normal ending
I'm 90% sure that Kotomine purposely botched the surgery when reattaching the arm just to fuck with Shirou.

So many emotional beats are lost in the movie adaptation of the route because it didn't give enough focus to the mental deterioration caused by Archer's arm. It's for this reason, among other things, that I don't think Ufo could have done Sparks Liner High justice. Shirou's "last ten percent" disappearing wouldn't have the same weight because they didn't truly hammer home the weight the arm had on his mind throughout the latter part of the route.
Yeah it's kind of like how Illya's death could have been so much more impactful if she had actually had scenes in this trilogy.
@@deuce5546 Can't blame Ufo though. All movies have a time limit to how long they can play in the cinema. If it surpass that limit, then it can't be aired. Same thing happened to Justice League, which is why the first version is 2 hours long while the Snyder's cut is 4 hours long

@@deuce5546 Cuz movies make more money. Other than the money they get from ticket sales the Bluerays and DVDs for movies sell way more.
UBW sold 43k units while both Heaven's Feel movies sold more than 100k units each. When you count that both HF movies have also made more than $19 million worldwide each (which is huge for movies based on/building on existing anime TV shows) it's easy to see why they'd decide that they wanted to cash in a little more. Releasing as a TV show and the revenue from streaming isn't going to match that. Fate was already pretty popular before but UBW and (especially) Zero did most of the advertising as accessible TV shows to reach a wide audience (including newcomers) and the HF movies were probably made to cash in on the popularity.
Random aside for anyone in the comments: in the Visual Novel, Archer was such a baller that he forced himself to stay alive during the transplant surgery to make sure it was a success or else the arm would have disappeared along with him when he died.
Understand, that arm came from a 100% certified G, but already from the jump was given to Shirou through an act of suffering. That arm was already a curse before Shirou knew it was even there.
Who know getting a arm replacement from yourself could bring so much pain.

He doesn't, it's a whole new body, so none of the magic circuits he had in his previous body get passed over. This also goes for Archer's arm as the power only came from that arm. They explain the magic circuits part in the epilogue iirc.

The magic circuits are in the soul not the body, it was mentioned in the end of HF true ending
He is still able to use his magic but he is very damaged from the arm
Rin says in the true ending (another dialogue cut from the VN) that Shirou with enough practice can use and master Unlimited Blade Works so he can still project in that body.
I relate to this so much, lol I have had shingles 25 times in 4 years. My entire right upper half is covered in severe nerve damage, right arm dominate. The pain is unreal. Just would’ve been cool to project weapons lol

Counterforce Emiya is the strongest version of Shirou while Archer Emiya is peak Shirou.

Kaleid Shirou is stronger than post UBW and post FATE Shirou but slightly more better than HF Shirou because of HF demerit that killing him if he didn't have the debuff would be equal in strength and skill.
Emiya is a template for every Shirou that reach servant status.
When I mean Archer Emiya I mean Nameless from the Extra series that is peak Shirou .
A good contender is FGO Emiya which might still be actually Nameless lol.
EMIYA Alter I would say he stronger than normal Emiya but not as powerful as peak Emiya still pretty cool np tho.
Counterforce Emiya is the strongest because that is pretty much Shirou on crack with Alaya boosting his parameters and giving him enough mana depending on the situation to deal with threats but only the appropriate amount.
Let say the threat possesses an amount of power equal to X(like True Ancestors), then the Counter Force will deploy an amount of power just enough to snuff out X and eliminate the threat.
The amount of power can be as small as nudging individuals into place through "coincidences", but it can also be as great as sinking an entire continent.
So, if Shirou didn't use the arm in that moment to save Ilya and just kept allowing the strength to flow into him naturally and safely (safer than what happened) then he would actually just become archer for the rest of his 10 years. And it seems that he would have the equivalent to servant strength without needing magic enhancement too. Thats insane. Also Sparks Liner High is the most badass shit to ever exist, Ufotable need to get on that rq.

@@joecroft4274 It was a certain thing. As Shirou said, the UBW cointained in Archer's arm was imcopatible with him on a fundamental level, so the death by skewering would've happened sooner or later. The only way he could've survived is to just cut the thing off.

I'd love to see an evaluation of the concepts surrounding Demi-Servants but be loose with the classifications of what makes one and how that affects the persona and container for these servants like Mash, Shirou (HF), Oath Under Snow Cards?, Gray & Sieg possbily ?
Mash was created from birth to be one. Her body was made with a set expiration date and modified so she could handle the output of the spirit. She was also supposed to have a very detached or in existent sense of self, allowing the spirit to take more control. However Romani meddled and taught her what being human means, however he could in his own limited understanding. That is why Mash is capable of being herself as a Demi-servant, while Strange Fake Ishtar is just Ishtar, while Sieg struggles to be human at all.
Gray is more explored in Case Files. Her case is similar to Shirou in HF where her body is being taken over by another being. In her case the more certain conditions occur, the closer she becomes to being King Arthur, and losing her own individuality as Gray. And Sieg’s biggest issue has to do with the Spirit that merged with him since Siegfried is cursed to become Fafnir.
@@lenleon3699 I know all of this tbh i just thought it would be a great video and the problem with Demi-Servants or moreso using a Living being as the vessel for a Servant. Mash was born modified to contain Galahads Power without complete Self Destruction and loss of Fighting ability, Gray similarly was born to withstand the influences of Artoria Pendragon and be able to use the Holy Lance.
With Shriou and Sieg they are Demi-Servants through operation and transplanting a Servants organ/limb to the physical form this is practically suicide due to the Servant would bleed over into the person, one thing that seperates the two is the fact that Sieg has his Siegfried powers blocked from his persona via Command seals which theoretically would allow him to live somewhat of a normal life (except he is still being corroded by Siegfried and Fafnir) and Shirou is wearing a Shroud to isolate the arm from his magical circuits, only because he is a novice and cannot block the arms influence without help.
I need a vid where the arm quite literally takes over his mind, like in the movie when he wakes up and tohsaka walks around to him clutching her necklace. And archers arm just decides to spew out that he needs to keep it until the end.
Shirou who basically 100% compatibility match with Archer needs to have super specialized spirit doctor powered by tons of command seals to get the arm transplant even happening.. and it still kills him when he even use it for a bit

As context Illya and Iri is way way more superior Hommunculus than whatever Musik can make with scrap technique they stole from Einzbern.
However no matter how superior they are as hommunculus they're nothing compared to servant. It is impossible for them to receive a transplant from even third rate servant and not somehow suffer a backlash from the organ invasion. Much less receive a dragon heart from first rate servant.
Why? Because it's been established before in Shirou case. The reason why the Archer transplant is great plot point is due to how severe the backlash is on Shirou yet he march forward nonetheless.
Now sieg made him looks dumb.
I mean come on!! It's Fafnir heart!! Fafnir should've eroded Sieg like archer arms to Shirou, THEY EVEN SHOW THAT THE HEART HAS PERSONALITY just like Archer arm!! For fuck sake.

While I do agree with most of what you said. I found the symbolic of the transplant to be good because sieg had no identity and was granted one. It was similar (to me) to tsubasa reservoir chronicle.
I hated the asspull I saw afterwards of course but I still feel that the transplant was a good plot point

Either way I don't really have problem with the general plot Apo wanted to tell. The concept of servant transplant by itself is not unheard of and it can be interesting. And contrary to what I sounds before I believe that Sieg being hommunculus made him somewhat able to take on Siegfried heart is the most convincing aspect of this plot point.
My problem is how apo decided to do that. All the BS centered around Sieg has huge repercussion on how we interpet previous and latter works in Nasuverse going forward. And they did it terribly.
For example they can make it so that Gordlof actually make heart surgery on Sieg under threat by Astolfo. I mean GORDOLF IS ALREADY THERE FFS!!
Or that each time Sieg transform he got eroded by Fafnir, maybe becoming more violent, or weird or whatever.
Well anyway I understand that we're both agreed that Sieg is just generally badly written character. I just want to vent my frustration

Shirou certainly got a *hand* on magecraft after having the literal most fanfic idea of getting a graft of Archer's arm; a spirit body that constantly needs mana so it isn't rejected by the world. The pain of feeding it mana while also dealing with as a foreign object must have been immeasurable.
I imagine it's like having a prosthetic being powered by the electrical impulses in your nervous system. Only, the prosthetic comes equipped with a fabricator and an onboard AI that deems it necessary to override the host to better bring out efficiency.
Finally someone tells the truth behind Shirou's skills.

He is one of the strongest mages around but not one of the best at all. It's been stated time and time again that he is a 3rd rate magus because of his over specialization and mages normally being more like scholars and professor instead of fighters and combatants.

NLBW was that moment in the novel I thought: holy sh*t how I wish this was animated. I waited 10 years to see that moment and despite not being how I remembered, It was epic.
This is a problem with FSN: the novel and the anime are two separated pieces of art. It is epic to see Shirou fighting Berserker or Gilgamesh (in UBW) but these other moments make the novel way more interesting to see.

All of us know the true identity of Shirou as the God of Kitchen and Housewives it's no wondef he handled the arm
If I'm going to be honest, I hoped the movies would use the ending where Shirou traced the Mimic Excalibur. To ultimately show the agony, but great power he carried and display the fortitude he had, mich like for Nine Lives Blade Works. The monologue he has where his mind is slowly shattered by tracing Excalibur alone, and using the last ounce of his will to push out the words and slashing downwards. Which ultimately creates three extremes per route we can see Shirou's potential. The Fate route, which is him playing it safe, and he traces Caliburn after understanding the meaning of Archer's words. The UBW route let him achieve his reality marble after coming to mental and physical blows with his future self, and gaining enough knowledge and power to give Gil a temporary run for his gold. Then we have Heaven's Feel, the ultimate test, and push of Shirou's ideals and strength, forcing him to take unimaginable pain, but granted him the power to create miracles. For each minute of suffering bought him moments of explosive glory, and showed that Shirou can adapt to stressful environments. He just needs help and time to cultivate his potential, and do what he feels is right.

Happens all throughout the VN. Any time he fights on par with any servant he's pushing his body beyond his limits and getting f#cked up just to hold his own on the level those servants can fight on as their regular standard.

for the whole latter half of HF i was thinking about how because of the arm wrap shirou probably wasn't showering in between all of the combat and sex w/ sakura he probably smelled musty AF and was probably very odorous and unpleasant to be around and i wouldn't let him make me miso soup

That's why you should read the vn. The anime are a great example of an adaptation failing the source material while looking competent(hat's putting it mildly) superficially since they technically follow the plot of the VN fairly closely (ufo does at least), but they still barely resemble the source material in so many ways because there's so much more than just the basic plot skeleton that they do not try to replicate or even cannot replicate.

Yes. This. I agree much of his pain was omitted. HF Shirou is actually my favorite, because of his ungodly levels of determination and of course alot of the cool as fucc inner monologue was left out for 9LivesBladeWorks
I would add HF's three potential endings are such remarkable stuff. Satisfying but heartbreaking on defeating Saber before his death, Illya's line before she sacrificed herself for Shirou, and Sakura's ignorance of her beloved Senpai's death before she screamed for him.
I like HF Shirou the most because he's the most vulnerable I think. It really makes me empathize with him. Unlike Fate or UBW he loses Saber fairly early, he also loses Archer midway through the travel, instead of being protected he has to PROTECT someone this time (two people actually, Sakura and Illya), Tohsaka turns her back on him for a while because of Sakura, Sakura herself is the whole reason this is happening so he feels the guilt and responsability for allowing her to live, the only servant with him is on Sakura's side and doesn't really care about him (at first), he's so helpless and alone he has to rely on his mortal enemy Kirei and he's being led around and lied to by Zouken who's behind all this madness.

There was theory that archer is coming back threw Shirou slowly growing back his body and coming back as him
Archer died after cutting off his arm to save Shirou, after which Shirou becomes what you could consider a "pseudo-servant." Not like Mash in Grand Order where the power was granted through magical means, but on a literal physical level. As for Archer coming back through Shirou's body, I'd say it's not very plausible. As explained in the video, Shirou died in the bad ending of HF after projecting Excalibur and destroying the grail. In the real ending, Shirou's body completely destroyed itself (something about his body becoming swords), and he would've died had Illiya not created a puppet of his original body and transferred his soul into it.

1_ It's not the bad ending, it's the normal ending. The bad endings are whenever Shirou dies (or something as bad/worse happens).
2_ Illya only used Heaven's Feel to transfer Shirou's soul to Rin's pendant that he had on him, Sakura and Rin then found the pendant and met with a puppet maker (who is a character in Tsukihime) who made the body for Shirou.

Sorry to be that guy but I would really encourage you to play the videogame first, the animes are a bit of a mess and it's an incomplete experience overall. All of the details explained in this video don't make it into the movies that adapt this parr of the story just for an example.

@@finnanimations1334 Probably a bit cynical but still chasing his dream in a grim determined way. Archer didn't turn back on his dream at the time of his death but after years of being a counter guardian and Nameless died content after being framed for war crimes and hanged by people he saved.
Also rin gave her magic circuits to shirou in order to use UBW so in theory if rin gave her magic circuits to shirou with the new arm could he have handled the pain better

Apparently, when Shirou projects a weapon he also replicates its history (seems to be some type of clairvoyance) and special abilities so he can do whatever the previous users could with the weapon.

If he kills Sakura he will become just like Emiya/Kiritsugu which is his dream. If he chooses to betray then he will effectively give up on becoming a hero

It's a reference to mind of steel Shirou.
In a bad end Shirou choices the people in danger over the life of Sakura killing her for their sake and the rest of the people in the city who's lives are in danger from the birth of an evil goddess. It probably done to symbolise his conflict over his ideals of saving people and his love for here but was pretty poorly done to anyone who hasn't read the VN.

@@r.k845 well for me in ubw anime adaptation ufo cut a lot of monologues that justified shirou (questionable) action and that hurts his characters a lot. Ufo make shirou looks like just your typical naive and stubborn MC in ubw route, which is not true if you read the novel they failed to do his characters justice.

Archer is basically Fate route Shirou if he failed to save Saber from her regrets, which also stops himeslf from accepting his flaws and limitations.
@@ssjokg4952 also nasu (the creator of fate) said "something was missing" in that time line. Im pretty sure the thing that was missing was archer being summoned. Rin probably summoned another servant in my opinion. While servants can be summoned from the future, they do have to exist in the throne of heros, which is why a belive that for u too summon a servant from the future there has to be a timeline where they had already become an heroic spirit

Numerous Emiya Heroic Spirits existence is already recorded in Throne of Heroes that is outside of space time so he is fated to be summoned in all variations of this Holy Grail War (confirmed by Extraverse), especially to Rin cus of pendant.
Archer is from the alternative timeline that is close (and parallel) to Fate, but in which he (didnt get close and) couldn't save Artoria and who knows what else in FSN verse. Something indeed was missing as Nasu said. The other details are mostly left unsaid.

Shiki from The Garden of Sinners would probably be the strongest thanks to Void Shiki. Aoko from Mahoyo would be second to that and definitely first place if Void Shiki wasn’t a thing.

No basically Akasha/Root of all things basically everything, every timeline, every person, object, etc so Archer is doomed forever to train different versions of Shirou during the grail war which is why Shirou has E ranked luck Alaya has had its finger on him from the beginning. The Throne of heroes is more or less a sub repository hell all of the servants summoned aren't even copies but half assed copies.
