Briggs & Stratton 5HP FULL RESTORATION! || Part 3: Painting

- In the final video of this series, I strip down and paint the 1986 5HP briggs engine, it turned out like a Storm trooper Briggs!
⚠️PLEASE READ⚠️
I know this video was delayed a lot, it was like the gods of UA-cam were against me. it started out with the first paint job looking terrible, and then after I got new paint and stripped all the old paint, it was super windy and rainy for the next week. once THAT finally stopped, I was able to paint it, but then accidentally deleted ALL THE FILES OFF THE SD CARD. So I had to recover all of those files, and some of them ended up getting corrupted. so that's why the first 3:40 of this video go by really fast and seem to have some parts missing. I was finally able to get the rest of it recorded and then spend three days editing this video, and here we are. it's been a wild ride, but I believe its worth it. Please remember to subscribe and like the video, I put a ton of time and effort into making these videos as good as I can.
Please leave feedback in the comment section below! I read all the comments and try to respond to as many of them as I can, I love hearing what you guys have to say!
This project has taken exactly 1 month and 7 days from start to finish.
Filmed on the Panasonic Lumix FZ1000 and the Takstar SGC-598 mic, and the FeiyuTech AK2000s 3 axis Gimbal

Excellent and comprehensive video! It's great to see young people taking an interest in mechanics like engines, and being able to repair something like this. All great skills to have! So many young adults today are mechanically illiterate. And have zero interest in how things work, and how to repair. I've met some that have never picked up a screw driver or pliers in their entire lives. Or know how to check the oil on their car.
I totally agree. Especially with the fact some people will call their parents or grandparents to change a light bulb. It’s really sad
Came out great, that engine is a looker!
Thank you!! yeah it sure looks nice! i want to try putting it on my small go kart and see how it does!
I'm really impressed. Nice mechanical skills at your age. Not bad on the new look restoration. And really enjoyed the video production. Excellent overall. thumbs up !
Good job buddy, I've rebuilt car engines Small block chevy's in the past, dealt w the machine shops, punchin out cylinders .30 thsnds over, removed & installed my own cam bearings yada yada yada,.. but I've never built a B&S engine.. your video was extremely helpful, again, great job buddy!!!
.
WOW! That looks fantastic and purrs like a kitten! Great job! Do you know where I can get a repair manual for parts etc...? Thanks!
you can find all the manuals and parts list on just the briggs and Stratton website and then pick your model number
OOOOOoOOOOOOOoO Nice, the Starting scared me a little since i thought the thing would talk
I always enjoyed restoring older Briggs 😎. One problem I ALWAYS run into is that the gas tank paint always starts to come off, due to the fumes of the gasoline 😞
yea thats usually how it is, but if you get a good paint brand and then wait like a week for it to dry before putting gas in it it usually is okay
I've had good luck using high temperature spray paint like Krylon High Heat Max. Even then I usually let the tank set and cure for 7 to 10 days before adding gasoline.
GOOD JOB OVER ALL.HOWEVER A JOB WORTH DOING IS A JOB WORTH DOING CORRECTLY.
Looks wonderful! Sounds good too
Great job with the engine and the video . I enjoyed them . Sell it and move on to the next one . Thank you .
A job well done. 👌
Give that clean metal some primer first next time 😎
Wow very beautiful engine, it looks like New from factory, congratulation.
Thank you!
1:08, that me with literally everything, except my parents are very sensitive to stains on the driveway so it's not so much "well that was a fail" as OH SH*T!!! lol. I like the color scheme, but I think 1 or 2 more black touches would have been nice. So, ya like the wire wheel??? :) Probably makes things a bit easier! I guess that compressor is working well for you if you have pneumatic tools now! 11:35 that made me laugh, probably because that is so something I would do lol. I guess if in doubt, blame the quarantine! Engine came out great!
On camera, the black kind of just disappears into the void, but in person the black really pops. it was originally white, so i wanted to repaint it white, but i like a bit of contrast. it looks pretty dang good in person. the wire wheels are useful, but they’re not mine, i’m just borrowing them along with the die grinder. i haven’t been able to get my own tools yet.
@@WildfoxFabrication Ahh ok gotcha! I like the contrast as well. It really looks cool! Well use the air tools while you can I guess! You know, I just thought of something: I recently made a compilation of all my "ooga booga cave man brain" moments that happened with the camera on in the form of my bloopers video! 😂😂😂 So what's the next resto? Something a bit older?
@@colin_5839 next is restoring the air compressor. i have new paint for it, and all i need now is to finish school (today’s my last day and i still have 2 F’s, but ima get those up) and i’ll get goin on it.
@@WildfoxFabrication Ohh ok cool! Lucky! my school doesn't end for 3 more weeks!
Great video, and nice work on the engine.
But why did you not cleaned and paint the flywheel and the coil-parts?!🤔 Everything else where perfect! 🤘👍
Mostly just because you don’t see those parts and they’re always a pain in the neck to clean! 😃 thanks for watching!
Hello. Thanks for your very interesting videos. I have the same engine but, as i never used it, can you tell me what type of gasoline i must use, 95, 98, with mix ... ? thanks
No mix, any octane works. I like to use 91 octane ethanol free but it’ll run on anything from standard unleaded to 100 octane race gas
Hey man what spray paint did you use?
The cheapest Ace Hardware branded paint in the store lol
@@WildfoxFabrication ok thanks
@@WildfoxFabrication I was just wondering if I should but heat proof spray paint or not?
@@Troygehring for the muffler definitely, for the block ideally, for the rest you could get away with normal paint
@@WildfoxFabrication thanks
Beautiful work man.
great video, Im asking for help, end of shaft 6.00 on video, it spins constantly and after 5 seconds twists the tow rope, so I have to turn it off immediately. What did I put together wrong? thenks
Just needs to be lubricated most likely, probably a little worn from age which causes less accurate tolerance and therefore does that sometimes
Nice work!
This is brilliant you deserve more subscribers
Were do you get the new rings ??
Amazon
Well done mate top marks
I have this same engine on a log splitter. What is the model number on the engine? Where can I find parts?
The model / serial number is always stamped on the left side of the pull start cover, by the carburetor. Parts are readily available on eBay or Amazon
@@WildfoxFabrication I had found that the number should be there but it is not stamped in that location. That was the reason for asking what the model number was on the one in the video.
@@jacobadkins3956 I no longer have the engine so I’m not 100% sure. But it was the most common type of 5hp with a 6 digit model number, just look up 5hp briggs model number and you’ll probably find your engine
So you probably did replace the piston rings ?
I measured the ring gap and it was within spec
Well done, excellent series!!!
What paint are you using?
Ace hardware branded rust stop paint
@@WildfoxFabricationHello I am currently restoring an engine like this and the paint on the fuel tank didn't resist the heat of the exhaust. Has it happened to you to?
@@eddytheking601 not that I’ve experienced but I always allow full cure time
it's not that I don't like it's just did you use heat resistant paint
no I did not, however it’s holding up great
Where do you find specs? Like torque specs and other things like that.
just look it up on google. this engine for example I just googled "briggs 130202 rod/head/sump torque specs"
Down to a Science Ight preciate it
Nice job
Super good vid quality, and u clearly know ur shit.
nice job thank you
He put in a new sparkplug, you'd think he would put in a new air filter too.
Bros a full time hater
like!
What model is
130202 model
Along with several other viewers, you should have cleaned the rust off the flywheel and coil pickup. And used hi-temp paint on the exhaust; that exhaust is just going to rust even worse.. Not bad for a kid. But I certainly would NOT have attempted startup without mounting it..
Where’s your engine rebuild?
@@WildfoxFabrication I don't post videos; I make observations and comment. Well as to MY rebuilds, they are in my own cars, trucks, lawn mower, tiller, and tractor. Along with several transmission rebuilds in several cars. And paint and body work. Having had close calls with power equipment, and injuries, I learn from my mistakes, and try to warn others.
Wish I could buy a motor like this
👌✨💖
perfekt
Does a "full restoration" and doesn't even change the air filter lol.
Overall a decent job though
you did all that work and didint sand the flywheel what the fuck!!!
was this painted by a 12 year old
