- In this episode, I rebuild an old Briggs that lived it's entire life on a go kart. There's scoring on the cylinder wall and lots of sludge in the crankcase. I hone the cylinder in two stages, first with a coarse grit and then with a fine grit, lap the valve, and reseal the engine with RTV.
I found one exactly the same Funpower 1997 only ran a few hours..like new looks new, just broken in..love it.. Northern Norway
👍 Really cool seeing ya bring an old briggs back to life! 🤘😁
Thank you. They are my favorite small engines to fix.
@@pulsar2121You still alive & doing well homeslice?
Enjoyed the different format and improved production quality of this video! Merry Christmas and stay safe out there bud!
Thanks, you too!
Nice job. I have 4 of these to rebuild 😢.
Most likely it needs a valve guide job.
What tourqe spec did you use for the head?
Do you ever put the engine back together
@15:02 vent upside down? Question: are the crankshafts the same between a Horizontal and a Vert motor? I got a great lawnmower engine but I need a go cart motor and I can get a H-mount block for cheaper than a entire motor. All my stuff could transfer over? Ive done the Vert to H modes (cutting a new oil groove on top of crank bore and filling the old one, crank slinger off rod end, governor delete and new oil fill) but Im not sure how the springs get oiled.
Go check at scrap yards I got 2 for $40 and they fired off starting fluid.
im not really sure what your trying to ask but briggs cranks will sometimes interchange but not always you can covert a vertical shaft to horizontal shaft but with some work but it wont last long briggs horizontal shaft engines just dont oil very good and they lose comression due to ring wear very quickly when theyre used for a gocart but relax you have better options tecumseh isnt a better option the carb bowls on those tend to get stuck and not allow the needle valve to close and theyre expensive and hard to find but real hondas and honda clones are readily available
and have great aftermarket my suggestion is to leave your briggs on your lawn equipment and spend the money for a legitimate honda engine theyre good and most of the clone hop up parts work on real honda engines
You have to use an actual gasket on the pto cover.
There are three standard sizes to set your cranks end play.
Just using rtv and you probably can’t turn the crank at all.
That’s probably why you don’t have a video of it running
What model number is this engine ? I need a side cover the same for my flat head so i can put a torque converter on it cheers tj
that weather is bad
Yeah, that the norm here for most of the year.
