    A decent size heatpipe tower can easily dissipate 300-500W effectively depending on a number of factors. Mainly, if the thermal density isn't too high to be a bottleneck. The real bottleneck for most coolers is not the size of the cooler but the interface to the CPU. A 120mm rad can also easily dissipate that much power, again, if the interface is large enough to transfer heat efficiently.
    The advantage of bigger radiators is not the ability to dissipate more heat. A 360mm radiator can dissipate 1-2KW of power given a large enough thermal source, but we only need to dissipate hundreds of watts on a build like this. The advantage of the bigger coolers is that they are so oversized, that they can return near ambient temperature liquid to the socket to help overcome the thermal density bottleneck.

    As Ryzen 3700x owner, I think Intel still makes the beter cpus for ordinary everyday use. Having 8 cores / 16 threads being populated is just too rare in daily tasks. Having 1/2/4 fast cores is generally better than 8 slower ones of which about half sit idle because of poor multitreading.

      its not that intel does a better job! AMD is too advanced and its because both MS and game editor prefer to focus on max 4 cores and are looking for the broader spectrum to sell more games.
      But things changed since ryzen 5000 series and you can bet that more V cache will benefit a lot in games. This Intel gen is just another placeholder. 14 gen is looking to be amazing though.

    • @phillipshaku1046
      @phillipshaku1046 3 роки тому

      @Dr_b_ Nah, disagree, because moores law won't go forever a, and b, even in 3 years from now, people will still b using the bords on older systems, whilst maybe thinking to upgrade the GPU.
      The systems back then were slow, today they are fast, faster won't make the fast slow, and physics will slowly always make it harder and harder. pcie5 stuff will be out in 1-2 years at max, look how fast the digital world is changing. And imagine now buying a board without that and in half a year or year, after spending 2 grand on a setup, needing to replace the fkin board for a new gpu upgrade.. 🤦

    • @phillipshaku1046
      @phillipshaku1046 3 роки тому +1

      @Dr_b_ Yes but it is not same companies mate. It's not Intel dropping the GPU's, yet they are futurproofing their bords for their expected next upgrade cycle of the market. If they don't bring it now and November Nvidia drop it matching AMD drop it with their new Zen4, they are the half year behind. Look how fast this market is moving atm... Look at the leap from the 9900k to the 12900k now in just 2-3 years, it's crazy. So if they don't jump on pcie5 now and then need to come with it the following year as the underdog, all z690 bords will be lacking the new tech form in 2022/2023, with a need to maybe feel like switching to AMD for the last 2022 for the absolut geeks.
      And again, it's all seperate companies, so who's the first mover.. Gotta be one, and imo it makes perfect sense for that to be the motherboards who futur proof their stuff and are the first movers for connectivity, else than gpus/devices being a first mover where the whole product defines itself over that connection and basically then would be totally useless until a bord pops up for them to even make their first sales

    12700k(KF) is the way to go this round with Intel IMO. The 12900k is just too much of a power hog and a space heater. The 12700k can is almost as fast; it is not even noticeable unless you look at benchmarks which does not reflect real work usage anyway. A few frame rates here and there is not noticeable when playing games anyway no matter what people claim based on FPS. You will never know you are on a 12700k or 12900k just by playing games alone. IMO the 12600 and 12700 makes far more sense then the 12900. Based on power consumption and heat, the 12900 is just not a good buy IMO. Some may disagree which is fine, I'm just looking at data. I picked up a 12700KF from Best Buy and I love it. Got a DDR4 MB for I could keep using my 64GB of DDR43600 and I am good for the next several years. Thanks for your video! You are very well spoken and articulate, of which I immensely appreciate. I also appreciate you integrity when recommending a particular product, in that you do so as a consumer and not necessarily a enthusiast.
    I have a couple of questions, that I hope you have the time to answer for me, but if you dont, I completely understand.
    My first being, why is such a big emphasis being put on power efficency in the chips? Its almost like AMD, everytime Intel beats them in performance, they say " well we have great power efficiency". thats great but intel still wins. they say "we have better IPC" Intel still wins though. why do they do this?
    My second being, I am a contractor. In a month or month and a half I will have enough money to upgrade my system. This upgrade will involve a new, monitor (high refreshrate 1440p bigger than 27"), keyboard (rgb), VR headset kit(valve index), and PC, with everything in the PC being new except for the GPU(3080Ti), of which I will transfer over. The PC will have a custom waterloop to cool the CPU(i912900k), and GPU as well. the PC will also have all RGB fans, 2x 2TB 980 pro SSD's, and RGB, GPU plug in extensions, and run on Windows 11 pro. I have been trying to source parts for over a month, and find myself banging my head against the wall. Have tried Newegg Pc builder but there are nuances that that system doesnt understand.
    I just need someone to just spell it out for me. A list for a case, all the way down the line to get everything, and I would get it. but it has to be thorough and account for everything, even potential screws. Can you advise on this? any full build suggestions? my budget is about 5-6000.00 USD

    I like how Intel has bounced back, but I have to see how it matures. Ryzen, specifically Zen 1, had some memory timing issues that gave me pause but those did eventually get worked out - it was at that point I jumped into the platform - it matured nicely and quickly. I'll have to see how well and how quick 12th gen matures before I could switch back to Intel even if it has the performance, the E-core - P-cores and scheduling problems (in Windows and Linux) are slightly more serious then Zen's initial memory timing problems. Well, at least I'm in a good place with my system that I'm not in need of an upgrade. :-)

    • @__aceofspades
      @__aceofspades 3 роки тому +3

      The scheduling issues are way way less concerning than people originally predicted. I have a 12600kf since launch, I've yet to run into a single application or game that behaved incorrectly, no stutters in games no lag, no performance loss. Out of the hundreds of games Intel there is only like 12 games on W11 that have issues, and those can be fixed by pressing scroll-lock to sleep the E-cores while playing those games until they are patched. And since this is a software issue, unlike Zen1's memory, it will be constantly improved. I would have zero concerns recommending 12th gen to anyone based on the scheduler.

    Well said, well done. You can really the difference between AMD and Intel in financial scale as AMD's Zen 3 architecture will see 4 generations of Intel processor 10,11,12 & 13. Albeit AMD will be using process to add 3D v-cache versus bringing out a new architecture. Alder Lake isn't quite a slam dunk and since AMD can still leverage their AM4 platform advantage, I can imagine why there may be a reluctance on AMD's part to dropping prices vociferously. Unless someone isn't vendor agnostic then it would be reasonable to wait for AMD's 3D v-cache response and make a build decision.

    Power efficiency .. You're clearly not looking at actual workload, but instead you're focused solely on peak draw at peak workload. Measure the total power consumption of the AMD 5950X vs Intel's i9-12900K during a work day. The AMD is extremely inefficient at lower workloads and idle. You're absolutely going to find AMD is drawing more power and unless you're a fool, you know it.
    My i9 is sitting in its box. Awaiting high-end DDR5 meanwhile, my i7 with its fast low latency DDR4 is purring right along. You can keep AMD along with its buggier than hell drivers.

    • @KitGuruTech
      @KitGuruTech  3 роки тому +9

      Leo here: Taking your last point first I seem to have two choices, either I am a fool or I am dishonest and neither of those appeals. Your point about total power draw (ie. the area under the curve) might be valid however Ryzen 9 5950X performs better and uses less power than Core i9-12900K and is a win-win. If you use your PC for light workloads for the majority of the day you may well find an Intel PC uses less total power than an AMD syetem however you need to define 'daily workload' and then replicate it time after time. In essence that is PC Mark 8, which we use to test batteries on laptops.
      Flipping the point around, if you are mightily concerned about cumulative power draw, why on earth would you consider either Ryzen 9 or Core i9?
      I hate to project but it feels like you might be experiencing a touch of buyer's remorse. Having said that you will find the new Core i9 to be impressive but you will absolutely want to strap on an effective cooler.

Multi core score was 12,544 which beats the last 3 entries in your graph. This is on my gaming machine with tons of background apps and a browser open, so I am sure it would increase a little if it was just a test bench setup.
    All this latest generation of CPUs from Intel proves to me is that they purposefully ripped off their customers for years with minor 5% increases in performance generation by generation. So now we all want to praise them for suddenly actually doing something after AMD innovated and took the crown? I certainly don't, which is why I never upgraded to 10th Gen and won't buy Alder Lake either.
    Finally, I am not sure what you guys are testing in gaming and using an RTX 3080? Notice all your frame rates are basically within 5 to 10 frames of each other? It is useless. Test it with an older GPU like a GTX 1060 or something, which most of the world is still using (according to Steam user stats). But even then, I would guess the gaps wouldn't be too much different.

      There is no reason not to include Core i9-9900K, apart from the time it takes for testing. In fact you can make a case for going back to 8th Gen. The thing is, if you are keenly interested in CPU grunt you would have ditched 9th Gen a while back, so we wouldn't be influencing your buying decision.

      I mean, you could test these things to eternity, but at some point one has to define some constraints and go with it.

    Shame that Intel basically gave the middle finger to its entry level segment buyers. Nothing interesting at all on that front.

    I would rather have an i5-13600K, there's really not much difference but I'd still prefer the newer Intel chip for my next build. That's the chip I will be using.

    Buy the 12900k....don't fall for the value nonsense. Buy the best for highest resell value and highest gaming frame rates.

      Makes little difference at anything at or over 1440p, Better off with 12700k easier to cool, Not a power hog and won't make your room a furnace.

    Ecores are pointless. Why would you buy a 16 core processor when half the cores are low powered efficiency core when you could buy an actual 16 core processor for around the same price and it has 16 full power cores. These are desktop processors, not mobile, efficiency doesn't matter.

      i7 12700k has 8 high power cores with multithreading. Just like the 5800x, but also has E-cores that are as fast as previous generations cores. My 12600K consumes less then 4 watts mostly when watching youtube and doing desktop-stuff. I like it. Cant even hear the fan spinning on the cooler, and my highest cpu-temp right now is 24 degrees.

      Alder Lake makes sense because currently 12700KF is the same price as Ryzen 5800x.
      But 12700 smokes Ryzen in performance: 40% faster when running Cinebench R23 multi-core, for example.
      And B660 and H670 motherboards are available and much cheaper than z690.
      As a former Ryzen fan, I hate to admit it: Alder Lake is now the way to go, for sure.

      In this context 'they' referes to the Efficient cores. Core i7 has more Performance cores than Efficient cores. You checked our gaming results, right?

  • @raider2105
    @raider2105 3 роки тому

    Sorry but you can't compare, do the same thing (high performance task) and use twice the energy and things done a little faster. Not worth the costs of new socket mb, all AMD have to do imo is keep with efficiency of 5000's series and same performance or more or slightly more power draw and more performance and the they've won again.

      Yes we are well aware of the differences but the alternative would be to ignore AMD Zen 3 which would be ridiculous
