Their Woodstock 94 performance is legendary and when they played closer they blew it out of the water. And closer becomes a bit less corny when you know what it’s about. It’s a very tragic song. The downward spiral is my favorite album of all time.
@@thomasanthony5021I feel like your opinion on Closer greatly depends on the attitude you have listening to it. NIN logo is so simple that it doesn’t even stand out when you’re playing Quake. It’s all over the place on industrial equipment and nailgun ammo. The whole soundtrack was done by NIN, and it goes to show that they’re not so much a band as Trent Reznor himself is just an industrial composer
The thing about the first Green Day logo is that they couldn't get their cover issued in time for release, so a Lookout executive had to make a plain green cover with the EP title, and that rushed logo.
I have to give props to "Closer" because no song has viscerally affected me like it. I saw the music video when I was seven or eight and it gave me nightmares for like 5 years.
For what it's worth, I live in Anthony Kiedis' hometown. He still visits from time to time, will gladly take pictures and do autographs. My mother in law is friends with Anthony's mom. He takes very good care of her. It's creepy the way he's into those younger women, but he's not all bad.

POSSESSED IS MY FAVORITE BAND!! also my brother once threw a pair of craft scissors that were too dull to cut paper and they hit me in the face and cut my face open. i had to get stitches 😭 Also i was 3
Fun fact: the heart grenade Green Day logo was designed for a skate company by Jef Whitehead of the one man black metal band, Leviathan. He's also from the same area as GD and even sorta knew them as they are in the same age group and GD started out as more of metal band before settling more towards punk rock.
Can't relate on NIN. Absolutely iconic composition and production, and in a different class compared to other industrial acts of the time. In fact, I think Skinny Puppy's entire catalog has aged FAR worse than any NIN song has. Seriously I beg you, listen to any song from Last Rights. It's a completely unlistenable album to me, not exaggerating. Their other offerings don't get much better either. I'd rather listen to a whole Gravity Kills album than sit through 1 whole Skinny Puppy song. This leads me to my question; did any other industrial music age better? Certainly not to me. The sounds involved can be harsh, grating, and even comical when they give off that "Home Depot, but edgy" vibe. Honestly, it's just hard to make industrial sound good, especially when you bring people's taste into the equation. That being said, NIN was at the top of the scene for a reason. Trent molded the sound into something widely accessible, yet unique. He built a successful life-long career from it as well, that should count for something. Personally I think it's easily distinguishable from similar works of the era, pretty sure that's why it doesn't sound dated to me. It may not be the most complex music, but simplicity can seem like perfection when executed properly.
Mike Torrao was a great guitarist and his style was massively influential. While no band invents a genre, I would say Possessed's version of thrash metal bucked most of the trends at that time. Mike Sus' drumming wasn't exact and honestly was the opposite of Dave Lombardo in how off the mark it was BUT, I can't imagine the drumming being any other way. I think Torrao and Sus made 'Seven Churches' the record we love today. Their second album though was...and then the 'Eyes of Horror' EP in 1987 was good but no one was still following Possessed at that point.
Great commentary on this round, cracked me up and made my wife angry when you basically said everything i've been saying about NIN for years. hahaha. :)

Maybe there’s like one guy that designs all of them who’s been around all these years haha
I’ve always found the RV thing hilarious! They have the designs and always have huge, jagged, disproportionate letters spelling out words that are probably meant to invoke feelings of rugged toughness. There’s absolutely nothing rugged or tough about driving around in a luxury apartment.
“Rob Zombie seems like a really cool nice humble guy.”
I think there are 3 musicians that might disagree lol.
Well Rob needed to nap and their soundcheck was bothering him
I worked with a nurse who loved Rob Zombie and got the VIP. He didn't say a word to her she was so disappointed I never heard her talk about him again.
What happened?
How about judging and album based on it's cover and then if the music actually is representative of the cover
Would love to see you do something like this but with album covers. Maybe as important as logos back in the day for discovering new bands (for better or worse) and they basically don't matter anymore.
The best Nine Inch Nails song was Hurt by Johnny Cash
NIN is awesome to me. It’s just not to Finn’s taste. Finn likes punk rock. I like post-punk, goth and industrial. To each his own.
I like punk rock too, and I love NIN. Finn is just an idiot in his opinion of NIN lol
@@fray3dendsofsanity It’s really, objectively, not very good. Thoughtful critique!
Welcome to Planet Motherfucker / Psychoholic Slag is still the best Robert / White Zombie song. You need nothing else.
La Sexorcisto is my recommendation
Freezing Moon goes so hard, I blast it at work
NIN gotta be in my top 10 favorite bands, but they're dancing around incredibly cool and super corny from time to time. I like it like dat tho, awesome fanbase too.
"Hey check out this Nine Inch Nails bullshit nowadays.." (plays video from 1994)
9:00 The Rob Zombie kids are the ones that listen to Powerman 5000.
Dude, im so tired of hearing random people criticize the "age gap" in celebrity relationships. As long as everyone is old enough to consent they make their own decisions and the reality is if we are single in our 60s we will want to date 20 year olds too. Want to know why? Because people in their 60s don't look that great.
Damn. Finn went raw on NIN. Honestly, I am sick and tired of "closer." Heard it too many times.
Nine Inch Nails was one of those bands I WANTED to like more than I actually did.
There's no better music for wallowing in self-pity. For a drunken pity party, The Downward Spiral is unmatched. But I don't want to sit around feeling sorry for myself. I want to improve my life and succeed. I don't want to dwell on past failures. And so, NIN doesn't gel with me. I'm more of a Pantera "YEAH lets kick ass and get things done!" guy than a NIN "my life is fucked up and i feel like shit" guy.
My thoughts exactly. I WANTED to like them and to be able to wear that logo with pride, but I just couldn't. But it is a hell of a logo.
I will say I really like their EP "Broken". It's some good hard and aggressive stuff, makes me ask why the rest of their stuff wasn't like that.
@@throttlehorn Funny when that's the stuff that sounds most like other music out there than anything else they made but sure, man. It doesn't have to be for everyone and I'll just tell you that saying you're in the minority is a massive understatement.
Thr dude from Primus played in possessed? Man, didn’t know that. Crazy!
the green day "heart grendade" was stolen from thunder skateboard trucks
We've rage baited with this one 🗣️🔥🔥
Nine Inch Nails' best album was the Quake Soundtrack fite me
Quake 1 was the best Id Software game
much better than Ghosts, which is a kinda awkward listen if you're expecting ambient
I was on board till the NIN one. Like come on man…
well he did say "objectively" so he must be correct
/S
And Rob Zombie.
I didn’t like 9 in nails until I was older so I don’t think it’s nostalgia or anything. I do love their sound it feels very gritty and stripped back for electronic but a lot is also extremely aggressive sections in their music. For industrial I think they are top and metal in general I think they have a good place as a notable band
06:19 :D thought pretty much the same, they just took a pair of scissors and some paper, cut out their band name and then took a bag full of spray paint and put their name on every wall in town.
Closer is soooooo over played. IMO Pretty Hate Machine is the best NIN album but Downward Spiral was very good as an album. "As an album" Listened to from beginning to end. That damn song is by no means the best on it.
RVs do that so the men buying an RV instead of a Ferrari still feel cool.
My favorite logo is MGK's logo because MGK is the band behind it. MGK invented the band logo. MGK bless you on this day MGK created for us.
Wait a second, Green Day's Nimrod "not good?" I'd say it's probably their best or second best album.
Girls liked NIN growing up
the cute goth chicks liked Trent, the not so cute ones preferred Manson
@@IzunaSlap Lol
I feel like Mayhem's borderline unreadable logo set the standard by which all unreadable black metal logos are measured
I like nine inch nails. I thought closer was kinda corny at the time, but the video was cool. It’s been a while but I think closer is one of the worst songs on the album. They do have a lot of music I genuinely like, or at least did at the time
Their Woodstock 94 performance is legendary and when they played closer they blew it out of the water.
And closer becomes a bit less corny when you know what it’s about. It’s a very tragic song.
The downward spiral is my favorite album of all time.
@@thomasanthony5021I feel like your opinion on Closer greatly depends on the attitude you have listening to it. Personally, I think it's a brilliant song with the way it just builds intensity the whole time with the various strange noises. How it starts off very quiet and at the end, it's very noisy. It works even better following songs like Heresy and March of the Pigs. It's just so messed up but also so catchy. I'm actually a bit shocked Finn thought it was trash.
@@neolbioldey it might have partially been a case of it just being inescapable and played to death. plenty of otherwise decent songs get ruined for me that way. but it still is pretty far down the list of their songs in order of how much i like them
@@thomasanthony5021 i liked the album as a whole. i probably liked the fragile more. it's been a really long time since i've listened to either of them
A better question would be who's a better vocalist? Dave Mustane or Getty Lee, do a poll on that. Personally I would say Mustane.
The Ranger's sound effects were also Trent. When you jump around, the HUP HUP HUP is him!
@@IzunaSlap that’s pretty funny
Closer by NIN still really good song but as big fan i wouldnt put in my 10 fav songs by NIN.
most of my top 10 would be from the Fragile album, aside from Wish and Hurt
The thing about the first Green Day logo is that they couldn't get their cover issued in time for release, so a Lookout executive had to make a plain green cover with the EP title, and that rushed logo.
>NIN sounds like a local band
kek wut? Ok, zoomer.
Come on nine inch nails are great the downward spiral/broken ep
Looks nothing like a chili pepper
finn didn't pick up on the fact rhcp logo is supposed to be a butthole
I'm a numetal guy and I have cricket wireless lol with a broken screen I might add
I have to give props to "Closer" because no song has viscerally affected me like it. I saw the music video when I was seven or eight and it gave me nightmares for like 5 years.
15:55 someone drug test this man
For what it's worth, I live in Anthony Kiedis' hometown. He still visits from time to time, will gladly take pictures and do autographs. My mother in law is friends with Anthony's mom. He takes very good care of her. It's creepy the way he's into those younger women, but he's not all bad.
I feel like Closer is a brilliant song. Surprised Finn thought it was trash
I hate how most of your chat on stream just agrees with anything you have to say. Like you can be a fan of Finn and not completely agree with everything he has to say. Just feels forced, read the chat after he makes any statement or gives you any opinion on something.
Great commentary on this round, cracked me up and made my wife angry when you basically said everything i've been saying about NIN for years. hahaha. :)
Is an iPhone 6 with a cracked screen really an iPhone?
I laugh every time you bring up Christian Death. That first LP with Rikk Agnew on guitar is pretty cool, but if you're expecting something like Possessed or Mayhem only to hear the goth version of Elmer Fudd, I can totally get your disappointment.😅
Pretty Hate Machine actually aged better than later NIN. Not sure why, better songs maybe?
Love how the people saying this seem to only know like 5 NIN songs. What you just said is insane lol.
@@michaelhaydenbell I’m actually a pretty big fan, first concert I went to was Downward Spiral tour, and have seen them five times since. Kept up with the music too, just don’t think anything tops PHM and maybe Broken ep.
I disagree but I can see why you might feel that way. It's funny because no one would have said that 20 years ago. I think it has to do with the 80s retro appeal.
@@michaelhaydenbell LOL right...PHM stans are actually more annoying than NIN haters. The Fragile and With Teeth both have like 5 songs each that outclass anything on Pretty Hate Machine
I guess Closer sounds a bit dated now compared to what's been done in electronica-infused rock since then, but TDS is still a timeless classic. Amazing concept album and nothing else sounds like it, partly because it's such a mixed bag.
You skipped through the single best part of mayhems discography which is the intro to freezing moon
Honestly I love the chili peppers. They have a ton of great hits (albeit a lot of terrible songs too). BSSM is their best work
"could you scrawl it on your note book?" How about permanently tattooed on yourself. Its my tramp stamp.🤭 Love anything Trent does. Proud to be branded a NIN fan for life. Even my anesthesiologist commented on it when I went in for my c-section. He too is a fan, that was twenty years ago.
1:30 nah i'm suprised that iphones finaly have some advanced technology like having icon anywhere they want
Weezer's lil =w= logo is dumb and really only serves to help market them to lonely teenagers. funnily enough, that also describes every single album they've put out

i am not a serious person
iPhones are boomer phones and Megadeth is boomer music. Makes perfect sense to me
iphones are boomer phones? Alrighty lol.

Also you should do Cradle of Filth next installment, their logo is sick af!
Lmao I love Rob Zombie haha I am the I Prevail/Hollywood Undead/Rob Zombie kid, from Manchester NH baby!
I wouldn't doubt that Anthony Kiedis's favorite movie quote is, "I get older, they stay the same age."
Bro... Boomers use iPhones. Of course, they are Megadeth fans.
Yeah I don't know why everyone acts like iPhones are so cutting edge. Best thing I did was ditch them in 2017.
I like megadeth well enough I guess. Peace sells is great. My buddy was a huge fan and listened to all their stuff, I would occasionally notice tracks that were quite good but I couldn’t tell you what they were. I owned countdown to extinction when I was younger, I would’ve been ten when it came out. So to say I’m a fan might be a bit strong, but they have some jams and riffs. I have an iPhone but it’s an iPhone 8
I misread this as "BRAND logos" 😂
I was about to comment that Peavey objectively has the best brand logo ever while also simultaneously making the most subpar products (besides the 5150/6505). Who would he the band equivaent of this? AC/DC?
Broken and Pretty Hate Machine are my go too albums for NIN and yeah ill jam some songs off The downward spiral once n awhile
16:31 wouldn’t this get you banned on twitch?
The rv comment has done me 😂 take your kids camping and its called the r*pist hahaha
I’ve heard it put that Rob Zombie is “dance music for dirtbags”; it’s definitely strip club music.
I actually do like his music somewhat. He’s not my favorite by any means, but the music’s not bad.
not thrilled with your Rob Zombie take...but that's the way it goes...
4:42 is arguably the funniest thing you have ever put in a video Finn.

Venom had a song called Black Metal from 1982
OMG You just don't understand the meaning DAD!!
I think NIN is objectively good. The composition is top notch. The notes on the sheet are good. You may not like the way it sounds. It may sound like "90s". But I think you are completely wrong on that one. A rare Finn miss. lol
Not a massive Nin fan but 'We're In This Together Now' is one of thd greatest songs ever in any genre!
