I'm really enjoying your videos - they are super helpful! I take my test this Friday and your videos have really helped. I paid for a month of Pocketprep and I'm a little disappointed in the fact that many of their answers are not actually in the text book, even though they state the page of the correct answer. For example: How many people in the US experience depression? The answer was One in Four and it gives page 79 as the page with that answer. The only number it shows is 300 million people worldwide and it's not the only question like that. Maybe because of your extensive knowledge, you're able to make an educated guess, but it was frustrating and felt like a waste of time for me. Not ALL of the questions, but several of them. Just wanted to share my two cents. Overall, YOUR STUFF IS EXCELLENT!
Hey, hopefully your test went well! Pocket prep is a useful tool but it’s definitely not the only one to use. I think some of their questions come from older editions of the text. So basically, they can still appear on the test but aren’t located in the same spot, or worded in the same way in the book. Thanks for all the support though! It’s much appreciated!
Which chapters are covered in part 1 vs part 2? I am in chapter 4 of the book, but I have decided to try this route with a lot of the information I have learned in the NASM book so far being common sense stuff. I want to watch this video then go through the chapters in this video, then come back to this video again. Thanks in advance!

I have adhd and have a hard time sitting down to read the textbook. Other than watching your part 1/2, pocket prep and taking the practice exams . Is there anything else you would recommend to better understand and learn the material that doesn’t require a lot of reading but still teaches the topics .
Make sure you still go and do the chapter quizzes in the NASM portal. If you get questions wrong you can work backwards in the text to find out what the correct answers are. Also, do the NASM practice test a few times and see how you do there before taking the actual test. We also have a video guide that can be purchased for $14.97 right now. It’s here if you’re interested: www.sortahealthytrainered.com/product-page/nasm-study-questions-downloadable-video If you learn better by watching videos, it could definitely be helpful.
Does NASM consider bracing to be the same as the Valsalva maneuver? Is the difference between the two just breathing out during the execution of the move? Thank you for making these vidoes!
Nah the two things are pretty different tbh. The valsalva maneuver is regarded as a bad thing and almost has to do with holding your breath in a weird way. Bracing has to do with the transverse abdominus a lot more
I honestly think there’s too many variables there for there to be any tricks. That said, it’s not all worth memorizing. Most of it can be figured out given a little bit of context info
Thank you so much for this video. I failed the test last April by 5 points and my fear of failure has kept me from trying it again. I feel like I’m in a better place mentally to study so this video is coming to me at the perfect time. I love when things just fall into place like that 🙌🏼 Thanks again!!!!
@mattfinley4544 yes it is and just make sure you know under and over active muscles where they are located, the different postural disorders and what muscles and under and over active with those as well.
Bracing is all about the global core muscles. Rectus abdominus would be one of those. There’s also the external obliques, erector spinae, and the QL. Basically, If you see global core muscles, or rectus abdominus, or any of the muscles above you’re looking at bracing. Drawing in is pretty similar but it involves the transverse abdominus. I talk about this more towards the end of the part 2 video here: ua-cam.com/video/r4NUR2FxKhw/v-deo.htmlsi=NBlqTmi_fWs2P-wc
Thanks! The new one won’t be out by then. I’d watch this part 2 for now:ua-cam.com/video/qX3j9EyPkMA/v-deo.htmlsi=0EOALkUW3xHHcZRx The information will be very similar in the new part 2. They haven’t really changed anything in 2 years. I’ve just gotten better at making videos.
Honestly, they don’t give exact time frames for specific workouts in the OPT model. It would really depend on the clients goals. Strength workouts take longer sometimes since you have to take longer breaks between moves for instance. It’s just good to know that each phase is roughly 4-6 weeks long, with 4 weeks being the most common
@ thanks for the response. I see that my question wasn’t clear but you answered it anyways. Thanks for getting back to me and thanks for everything you do.
Bro Jeff! I wanted to ask, are the questions on the Pocket prep almost the same as the real exam? Like the way they word it, I mean? And how are the free questions from the Pocket prep? Are the questions the same if we pay for it vs. the free ones?
Question if anyone can answer.. is there an unlimited amount of practice exams on the NASM course? Right now all I can find is the non-proctored exams that only give you three attempts!
There is not an unlimited amount of practice exams. Depending on which NASM package you got, you should have 1-3 practice tests I believe? The most basic one, the one I recommend on this channel gives you one practice exam and three attempts to pass the open book or non-proctored exam
Hey Jeff! Quick question, I’ve taken 4 practice tests as of recent, my scores were (not in order) 83, 82,73,77. In your personal opinion, Do you think that’s good enough to take the real exam, or should wait to score higher? And please elaborate if you can👍
I’d say you’re at a borderline area there. You’ll probably pass but you might want to Keep going until you’re scoring a little higher more consistently.
The videos we have up still work very well! They’re up to date and will help you pass! That said, I’ll put out new ACE ones soon too. I can just make better videos now and that makes them worth redoing.

I’m excited to apply some concepts to yoga.
Congrats on passing!
Thank you for the videos just passed my NASM December 30th 2024 third time the charm the reason i passed the third time because I watch your video part 1&2 to back to back plus write down notes I’ve completed the NASM program and take the practice test multiple times but really going over the things that needs to be focused on to pass the exam and it works especially understanding and memorizing the overactive/under active and the study guide really helps try do the exercises yourself on the OPT model to get familiar with it and reading the book chapters multiple times by doing the quizzes and test available. If you need to break it down more do that I learn by color I write my notes down using different color makers. It’s possible everyone to pass the test use the videos find ways how you learn and take your time and set deadlines. I believe in everyone to pass this test. And never stop learning after the exam completion.
It sounds like you worked hard! That’s awesome! Congrats on passing and welcome to the field! Thanks for the feedback too!
I just want to take a moment to thank YOU for playing a part in helping me pass my NASM CPT proctored exam today! I watched your Part 1 and Part 2 videos multiple times, downloaded all of your study guides, and even went as far as getting 'PocketPrep'.
Congrats on passing! Glad everything was helpful!
Just had my Proctored Exam today and I passed. I was really nervous but overall found the test to be very easy. Thank you very much Jeff for your videos. I purchased NASM online course and had been studying that for awhile and only just discovered your videos maybe 2 weeks ago. I wish I found your videos earlier, it absolutely made things much easier to understand and got rid of a lot of stuff not necessary. One thing I will say really helped was using pocket prep. The way they word their questions really helped me with dealing with those hard confusing questions. I wish I knew about this a long time ago and will use it for future exam prep!! I saw a lot of questions about the OPT MODEL, some overactive/underactive questions, progressions, exercise technique, and good amount on planes of motion. SO literally everything in your videos lol ! Thanks again Jeff!
i'm about to have NASM Certified Personal Trainer 7 NCCA Exam.
and i want to know if the test questions is the same as the practise exam in the Student Portal or not
Glad you found the content helpful! Congrats on passing!
I love it, I watched one of your videos about what being a PT is like, and decided to go for it. Now I take the exam tomorrow and I'm back, I had no idea you had this type of content but it's great! Much more effective to just listen to this than have AI read the study guide while doing tasks
Best of luck to you!
I passed my test on the 5th August. Thank you sooooo much Jeff . I watched all of your previous videos and they where very helpful

Thanks so much! I passed my exam today. I didn't pass the practice exam and felt the exam was a lot easier. I studied for 3 days! Thanks for simplifying the material!
Great job!
Hi! Just passed my NASM proctored exam yesterday and wanted to say thank you for your content! It helped more than any of the NASM study guide material (it’s SOOO much and intimidating lol)
But yeah, I watched your older videos and then saw this one the day before my exam, and also watched your upper and lower muscle videos which helped TREMENDOUSLY.
Got a lot of overactive/underactive, a bunch in different exercises for different clients (hypertension, etc)
But yeah just wanted to say thank you and I am now watching your CES video as that’s my next course!
Congrats on passing!
W video, thanks for helping me pass. For anyone wondering, the proctored exam is way more difficult than the non-proctored.
Congrats on passing and welcome to the field! I agree the actual test is typically gonna be harder
I passed my exam TODAY! Your videos were the most helpful out of everything I watched. Thank you!

Just passed the exam. OMG. Was harder than I thought. I scored 80 to 90 with the practice exam and was pretty confident, but the questions were completely different. hahaha anyway, huge thanks to Jeff and I start watching all your videos. Best luck to your life and career !!!

Thanks for making this. I started my course last week, and I made it to the 3rd section when I asked myself, "Am I really going to need to know about the Nervous System for training a client?" Did some research, and your video popped up. I'm a VERY slow reader so you're a godsend! Now I know what to focus on. Going to read the specific chapters listed and skim the rest. Can't wait for part 2. Thanks so much!

@@kylehill97congrats my man!
Taking my test next Monday! I was really nervous, but your content is extremely helpful! Just curious if you will have part 2 coming soon?
Part 2 went up today!
Thanks for helping me pass today!!! ❤

Thanks! I’ll be honest with you, not many trainers actually end up using the OPT model in the real world. That said, while it’s a little funky it’s not too bad.
It’s very important to understand it for the test too.

Thank you sorta...
It’s here if you’re interested: www.sortahealthytrainered.com/product-page/nasm-study-questions-downloadable-video
If you learn better by watching videos, it could definitely be helpful.
Bracing has to do with the transverse abdominus a lot more
Anyone have any tips/tricks for memorizing the acute variables in each phase of the OPT model? Ie how many reps, sets, 1RM for each phase?
I honestly think there’s too many variables there for there to be any tricks. That said, it’s not all worth memorizing. Most of it can be figured out given a little bit of context info
Will you do a new ACE exam prep video? If so when?
Yes I will be! The old ACE videos are still up to date! I will be putting out newer ones in the next few months though .
This is really good
Thank you!
Thank you so much for this video. I failed the test last April by 5 points and my fear of failure has kept me from trying it again.

@@NASMCERTIFIEDPTShatiana amazing !!! Is it mostly multiple choice ? I'll have my exam in February. So nervous. There is so much to know
@mattfinley4544 yes it is and just make sure you know under and over active muscles where they are located, the different postural disorders and what muscles and under and over active with those as well.
hey! during the test is there a chance to look at the notes or something like that?? how that works ? there is a camera or something lol thanksss
You can’t use notes for the proctored test. They will be looking at you with a camera. The non-proctored version is open book though.
Let’s go a new one!!
Thanks! I appreciate the support!
when doing bracing, i think will be usuing global core muscles (rectus abdominus) not only the local core muscles, right?
Bracing is all about the global core muscles. Rectus abdominus would be one of those. There’s also the external obliques, erector spinae, and the QL.
Basically, If you see global core muscles, or rectus abdominus, or any of the muscles above you’re looking at bracing.
Drawing in is pretty similar but it involves the transverse abdominus.
I talk about this more towards the end of the part 2 video here: ua-cam.com/video/r4NUR2FxKhw/v-deo.htmlsi=NBlqTmi_fWs2P-wc

Will you do a new ACE CPT EXAM review?
Absolutely! The updated ACE videos and guide won’t be out for a few months but I will be making them soon
Hi,
When you say each phase of the OPT takes 4-6 weeks to get through, what is that based off? How many hours per day?
A lot of the pocket prep questions are similar but they’re definitely different compared to what’s on the actual test.
You’ll probably pass but you might want to
Keep going until you’re scoring a little higher more consistently.
Thanks a lot
Most welcome!

I did list the ones in the beginning of the video that I think are most important.
That said, the one on the OPT model, the assessment chapters especially on the overhead squat and SL squat, and the one on overactive and underactive muscles
Again, only focusing on three chapters would be a mistake. That said, those are the concepts that usually appear most on the test
