I recently compared these two in-store and walked out with the Glycerin Max. I’m a 200lb runner and the leg-saving DNA Tuned midsole feels much better to me than the FF Turbo. Soft yet bouncy. It was a close call, though. That said, I wasn’t looking for a do-it-all shoe. I was specifically looking for a long-run trainer for my rotation.
For me, I bought SB2 as a long run shoe for my first M prep. I used triumph 21 until I got hand of this beast. The T21 was botoming out around 20-22k. Im like you a 200 pound. Im kind of aiming for 3:30, but most importmat I’ll try to run it «Nice» as my first M. The SB2 saved my legs and feet big time in its first 25 k LR. Today I don't know what I would have done with out it. when my training requires to put in M pace into the LR it really works magic. I don’t like the idea of doing these runs with a carbon plated shoe. So, if you want a shoe that is not just slow and slogish, but also protecting you, and can picking up the pace, reduce recovery, this one it’s a gem. Al of this being said, I’ve not tried the Brooks.
@@jacobriis7859 that is my main problem with these new max shoes. I would try on sale . A bit too expensive for a recovery slow speed shoe. I have superblast 2 (I did get a discount) not sure I would pay full price. For us non elites I get the SB2 . I can easily use it to race a long distance as a non elite . I can do faster workouts as well as daily miles . Emily is right is just more versatile for the price. That being said I have not tried glycerin max.
I have to agree on the versatility. At $200, ideally most folks are looking for a 'do-it-all' shoe, and the SB2 fits the bill for me. I use it and the Rebel v4 as my rotation and my feet and knees have never been happier. I was very intrigued with the Glycerin Max but think I'll keep my current rotation. Thanks, Emily & glad you're on the mend!
Apples to Oranges! The Brooks Glycerin Max has an EVA base foam where the Asics Superblast 2 has a Peba base foam. Peba base foams, unlike EVA base foams, are more resistant to different temp. changes. The Glycerin Max midsole will get soft during really hot temperatures and become firmer at really cold temperatures. The midsole of Superblast 2 will maintain its properties across a range of temperatures. Don't know about the durability as far as cushion and energy return of the Glycerin Max over its lifespan but people have said they've gotten as much as 600 mi. out of the Superblast 2. Asics will also give you discount if you sign up for their free membership program. That will put the shoe at $180 which makes this shoe a no brainer imo.
Adding to another comment saying the Brooks Hyperion Max2 is pretty fabulous for long runs at a wide range of paces. The roll geometry works great for my gait, the upper and lace system are superb-not super plush but so comfortable and well executed (think: quality) the trade off of being on the lighter side is well worth it. Note that the cushion is not the squashy sink-in variety but it’s very protective, responsive and kind to my legs and feet. I’ve put close to 100 mi on them with runs up to 18 mi including MP as well as slow easy pace and they look and feel like new. They’re also a stunning design. And I disagree that a non Peba midsole is necessarily inferior. I’ve had Peba midsoles go flat on me around the same mileage point as the Hyperion line shoes I’ve had. Though word is that Brooks is soon to incorporate Pebax in some upcoming models😮
Hey Emily! Still subscribed to your channel even after I gave up running. Lots of things happening regarding health, diet, and spirituality. Still love you and encouraging you!!
Sold my Superblast 2's and replaced them with the Prime X2 Strung and I have zero regrets! I honestly don't get the hype with the Superblast? I don't think the midsole foam is anywhere near as comfortable as the midsole on the Prime X either. I'd like to try that Glycerin as well as the new Glideride Max 👌🏻
"You don't get the hype." 😂😆 Sure, 99% of the Superblast community is wrong, and only you are right. You are probably slow af. 🙄 Prime X Strung's are 🗑. 🤡🤡🤡
I currently have the Novablast 4 for training. I am going to upgrade to Superblast 2 when NB4 is retired. I just got the Brooks Hyperion Max 2 for faster sessions, but my next shoe I will probably buy as a recovery shoe is the Glycerin Max. That way, all 3 shoes can overlap in different ways for different uses.
I have both NB4 and SB2. They are different shoes. I had the same thought as yours. NB4 is more fit for easy run and 25km within long run. It is quite comfortable and easy going. SB2 is a do it all shoes. It is not as comfortable as NB4😅. The slowest speed I can do with SB2 is 5:45, slower than that will feel strange and hard cause the foam is too ‘responsive’
I have both, I’m a 195lb part time runner.. I can tell you I have the glycerin max on 90% of the time but I’m not a racer. Just love a soft max cushion shoe for my knees
The Hyperion Max 2 might be closer to the SB2 in terms of versatility. A runner can do long runs with workouts with the HM2 as can be done with the SB2. IMO.
I just picked up both. Looking forward to the glycerin max for my mid week longish easy runs and the superblast 2 for my long runs with MP sprinkled in. Im fortunate to have been able to get both.
Great video as always Emily. I recently ran a half marathon in the Super Blast and as a larger/slower runner I have to say that they were excellent. Feet felt good at the end and held a consistent pace throughout. The Brooks looks great but not in the market for another similar shoe right now.
If you don't want to go fast than Glycerin Max is great (recovery and long run). But for me its closer to the More V5 than the Superblast 2 and from this perspective it is far to expensive!
Superblast for me, it is do it all shoes (easy days, tempo, long rung, even race day). One thing superblast v1&v2 that others didnt had its the stability. But i think superblast is not intended for recovery session.
I just received my Glycerin max last week and I sent it back the next day. Albeit, it's a very plush and comfortable shoe but it's a little "too much" shoe for me. I'm a size 12 in men so IT WAS HUMONGOUS !! lol
I bought the Glycerin Max recently. I tested them yesterday and push a little bit the pace at 4’38 during 3mn and 3 times. Yes there are heavy for my size 11,5 but it was really a pleasure to run fast in them. Off course it is not the purpose but it was fun. I will not run a half marathon in them at this pace for sure but for short intervals during a long run I think it can do the job if you have strong legs 😊
i've got the SB2 and enjoy them for long runs at all paces, tried on the glycerin max today as i want a strictly easy/slow run max cushion shoe. i just struggle to justify the glycerin max price and not sure how the comfort and cushioning holds up when actually running. they were super comfortable just bouncing around when trying them on, almost bought them on the spot.
Let’s go with the superblast all day everyday. Better foam better performance and more versatility. You can comfortably run all paces in the SB. The next day you still have your legs ready to go again.
I went with the Glycerin Max, since Asics does not care to make the Superblast in sizes above mens 13. Big footed runners are left in the dark at Asics.
I have both and I use the glycerine max way more. The superblast feels clunky at easy pace. It's awesome at half and marathon pace but that's about it. The glycerine max can almost go down to half marathon pace. That's impressive for a heavier shoe.
I really dislike the asics personally. The only shoe i got rid off after a few runs in the last few years. Usually i can make shoes work somehow, but the asics superblast 2 are just impossible to run in comfortably. Very frustrated by the fit. Asics should make a wider version.
Hey Emily. Another excellent review! 👌🏼 Looking forward to your opinions on the New Balance More v5 versus the Brooks Glycerin Max. For my money, they’re the two best easy/slow/recovery run shoes out there. Have a good week! 🏃🏻♀️➡️
My 10k time is 43mins, half marathon is 100mins. I tried both of them. Both are very very good shoes. Glycerin Max is more suitable for Easy run and LSD. I can use it comfortably within 4:50 to 6:30 speed. It is super comfortable but with reasonably ‘nice’ response. Superblast 2 is a bit ‘hard’ and the foam is very responsive. I can use it from 4:00 to 5:45 speed range. If you want a super easy run, superblast is too “responsive” to it.
Hi! I wander..Is there any trade off for the lighter waight of SUPER BLAST 2 in comparison with the GLYCERIN MAX and other high stack shoes like this? Thanks!
I think there can be, but it depends on what you’re using it for. If you’re using either shoe for long slower distance runs then it won’t really matter
@RunLikeHeller Ok let's change the question a little bit...Is Superblast 2 as good as Glycerin max for slow, recovery runs? Does it have the same level.of comfort and tracton ?
Superblast for sure. There's nothing wrong with the Glycerin Max but for the price I want it to be able to do more than just slower stuff. At Chicago there were plenty of people running in the superblast, so you can even take it for races if you want
Superblast all day long. Just did a long run in the SB2, partially at marathon pace, felt great. Just like the easy run I did this week in the SB1, which has done more than 700 km. If I was looking for a pure easy shoe Brooks may be a contender, but the versatility, durability and awesomeness of the SB currently has no match out there. And Brooks, its great what you experiment with the variable density foam, size specific plates etc, but you'll never get a supershoe without a true superfoam.
Both are expensive trainers, but SB2 at least have tone of versatility, you can do everything from everyday base training to even marathon racing - its overhyped imo but hype has its merits here... and i have 2 pairs personaly SB and SB2 Glyc max has only one use case - which makes it massevly overpriced offering - plenty of other choices well priced to compete with, however brooks marketing dep managed to hype this release somehow - kudos to them, but hype will die out as soon as brooks marketing money dry out and no influencer will ever talk about it - just my opinion....
Easy answer. Superblast 2. Like the answer is : 1. Find a superblast 2. 2. Look at the sketchy sides to find a superblast 2 3. If you cant find a sb2 try to find a superblast 1 4. Glycerin max

Glycerin Max is overprized
@@jacobriis7859 I do wish it was closer to the Ghost Max 2 in price. Similar use case IMO. Ghost Max 2 gave me blisters on my pinky toes so, no dice.

Nice review . Have you tried the puma magmax nitro ? It is also a great long run shoe super bouncy and comfortable, and the grip is awesome
I haven’t but I want to!
Glycerin Max is a nice ride but it’s much heavier and the insole gave me blisters on the inside of my left foot so I returned them.
Puma MagMax ❤
Which on for walking?

Not a fan of a heavy shoes, so I go for Asics Superblast 2
Did you go Tts in both? Which pair would be more wide foot friendly
Yes tts, probably glycerin max
Does the Glycerin max foam remind you of the skechers hyper burst midsole material?
A little yes!
Which one is easier to get hold on in EU size 47? Asics makes jokes by not producing enough of superblasts.
Superblast doesn’t feel great to me at slower easy paces (slower than 8:00/mile). Very stiff.
Superblast 2 ain’t available anywhere 😭.

Kayano? Glycerin max replacement haha
A little tough to compare because ones stability and one is neutral but I think the cushier one would be glycerin max
Superblast easily.

probably the superblast
