      well either way, we will all miss him and his amazing performance in every role he played. he is actually the voice of not 1 but 2 top-tier iconic characters in One Piece, Franky and Bon Clay.

    Foxy's arc was also important to emphasize how strong the bonds of the crew are and how much they care for each other (though the anime with the padding added extra games kinda muddled that point) which was important cause all of water 7 is about these bonds being tested with the Usopp Luffy fight and the Robin "betrayal"

Some people who go through water 7 are like, that’s the send off oda is doing to merry? Just a dump into the storm? And then you go through this epic arc rescuing someone who wanted death, everything goes well, and then watching the merry burn. While there’s a week or two between the merry rescue to her Viking death

    Legend goes, Oda had originally thought about the shipwright to be a small man, almost chopper size, but after hearing Franky’s voice actor voicing other characters, he created Franky, so he could keep him on the show; the klabauterman was then created based on that original shipwright idea… and the rest is (a tearful) history.

    • @corvus6381
      @corvus6381 16 днів тому

      I actually heard that the klabautermann was supposed to become the shipwright and merry wouldnt die but he noticed they would need to upgrade eventually
      Also interesting is that robin is the only one completely missing a early beta version with the small man who would later become franky being an archeologist joining in water seven
      I always liked the idea of robin joining being kind of an accident and luffys "Well alright. Cant help it" upon her recruitment was basically oda
      However I also just heard this on the internet so take it with a grain of salt!

      About the Klabauterman one being the shipwright I already said so in the initial comment but I only saw it as an online comment that has to be taken with a huge grain of salt so yeah valid if you dont wanna believe that.
      The one source I can give you is the initial strawhat design sheet from oda shared in One Piece Green: Secret Pieces and One Piece Magazine vol.10, you can also find it under the One piece wiki under concepts.
      You will see that there is no second woman next to nami and two completely unrecognizable male members of which one is tiny, floating and carrying a wooden hammer (hence the connection to the klabauterman)

    22:26 That's exactly how I felt after Water 7/Enies Lobby. I almost stopped during the Long Ring Long Land Long Drawn-out Nonsense arc, but then after Enies Lobby I realized there's no stopping anymore. Even if I hit another low point arc (which I haven't yet), I know to expect absolute gold eventually.

    • @TofuBug24
      @TofuBug24 16 днів тому +5

      The anime did a disservice to Long Ring Long Lang arc by doubling the "games" actually played in the manga. It was meant as a quick goofy palate cleanser after a very serious arc. The stretched out games just made it feel worn and tired at the end of that arc of the anime. However Oda never does something just to do something, and that arc and Skypea (another one that people dismiss on their first pass through to current One Piece) have some of the most dense lore setup in the entire series, not to mention the character development for Nico Robin. Enies Lobby wasn't the first time Robin saw Luffy fight full on to rescue her. Luffy vs. Foxy in Long Ring Long Land was. Robin leaves in Water 7 because she thinks "Luffy will face anything as he has JUST demonstrated with Foxy, but the world government is on a whole different level and they will KILL him and not give it a second thought" She didn't understand that goofy ass Davy back fight or government assassin is the same to Luffy in that neither are related to his commitment to his crew including her.

    • @xeroreverse7712
      @xeroreverse7712 16 днів тому +3

      It's always a shame to hear Long Ring hate. Yet it's perfectly understandable with how the anime adapted it. With the additional games and removing the ending with aokiji. G8 didn't help either because it also took on the role of the fun low stakes in between arcs. While I love G8, it did make anime long ring even worse

      Well, half the crew up to this point (not counting Luffy), either joins or confirms their place as Strawhats. (Usopp, Robin, Franky) After this, they truly are united, and pretty much unshakeable.

    I’ve posted elsewhere, but my current life revolves around following as many UA-cam reactioners passing thru water 7 > enis lobby > post enis lobby.
    Thank you for sharing the story of your grand mother. My head cannon is that Merry broke right after meeting up with the Gallela co ship, because she was just trying to hold it together as long as possible until she knew her crew would be ok.
    The live action absolutely has to at least get to this point in the story. After that point, all people will switch over to the anime, or the reboot, both which benefits Netflix and probably part of their strategy.
    So, I’ve been listening to the “Mugiwara space podcast” radio show and also the “Nakama ga iruyo - tube” channel where I learn great behind the scenes info divulged by random VAs chosen to be on the show that week.
    So I learned Ussop’s VA (Yamaguchi Kappei) reads the manga in realtime.
    Luffy (Tanaka Mayumi) doesn’t and finds out when it’s go time and learns the story progression on the spot as she is about to record.
    But Ussop’s couldn’t help himself and showed her the comic before recording, and Luffy just couldn’t go thru with it, she was a mess that day and they had to cancel that day’s recording session.
    But if that was what led to this performance out of her, then more props to Ussop’s VA for also having the observation Haki to see this was what was needed to be done😂

    “I’m crying over a fictional boat dying” is such a silly sentence, but that’s also when you kind of take a step back and realized how invested and into this story we’ve all been so far

    The first time I watched this scene I didn't cried a lot. My eyes pretty much got teared up a little. But One Piece was essentially the first show I watched that I was able to connect deeply in a emotional aspect, especially relating to the characters.
    With time, I learned that people who get really emotional during this scene are not being dramatic or silly, it's fully a merit of the show to be able to pull that out of us. We can cry over a BOAT.

    No tough man can ever endure Marry when she starts speaking with "Gomene". Instant chills man. Been watching Onepiece for more than 20 yrs and have seen this episode more than I can ever remember and it always makes me cry. EVERY. DAMN. TIME.
    If you love Onepiece this early on, you are so up for a very big adventure. the show only gets better and better every arc.

    Your story about your grandma, It's obviously sad but also beautiful. It reminded me of my dog that died recently. She was 15 and her health had been declining. Then one night I had this feeling that it was her time. I carried her to her bed, and i laid on the floor next to her. I told her it was ok to go, and fell asleep next to her. When i woke up she was gone.

    this brings back memories,its 20 years since i read this the first time,everyone reacts the same,its a ship and im crying,but its more,merry is a nakama we loved and still miss.. one piece is great,ive followed it since the start and i dont regret spending 26 years with luffy and the crew one bit,just enjoy the journey it only gets better and better... i thought i could get through this for once and not shed a tear,i failed,rip merry...

    i try to explain to people that i understand its a long show not everyone has time/patience for that but those long arcs and everything make stuff so much more impactful. if it was a quick told story that ship wouldn't have made you shed a tear. its because you put the time in and felt like you were along for the adventures with the straw hats you end up more invested in the story then you even realize. same thing with later arcs.

    Damn i couldn watch it in one go bc it rellay made me cry, and I had to work 😂
    I have seen this so so many times in the past 15 years, merry gets me every time... this is true greatness. When a story works so well even after you have seen it several times. Other shows dont work after you learned what happens in the end, one piece works just everytime it is so well written it never gets old.

    i was one of the viewers back in alabasta arc that was disheartened by how much you disliked it back then and I doubted you'd stick with it to reach this point, but props to you to sticking with it and finally joining the club of "I cried over a ship". You got my respect XD (I still tear up when watching this despite having seen it so many times through so many reactors, it still hits as hard x_x ).

    I love that Merry carried them until she saw the rescue ship THEN let go once she knew they'd be safe! Also yeah this is my 100th time crying over Merry, I feel like I'm conditioned at this point, I see the Merry thumbnail, I start tearing up, I click on the video, I watch it and SOB once she starts talking

    I'm glad you continued your One Piece Journey.
    Some people say One piece gets good 300 episodes in which I disagree with, I think it's amazing from the beginning, but also I think Enies Lobby is when the viewer gets fully immersed and invested in the OP world and it's politics.

    Something that I learned after watching anime is that you should always assume that everybody dies. Love every character if you’re inclined and pay attention cause there will be call backs that will make a scene that much more impactful.
