This film is actually set in 1986, as a newspaper clip is shown to have Ukrainian disaster written on it. There was one that happened there, the Chernobyl accident, in 1986. Fun fact. This is definitely a realistic and haunting scene, too!
And the movie that the Wayne Family were watching was called “Zorro, The Gay Blade” and that it was a blowout. That movie came out in 1981, and if it was a blowout then that would mean that it was very popular and I doubt it would’ve been popular if they were just showing it again. When I watched this on theaters, I was thinking how the viewers must have felt when they saw this at the moment on tv, including the live audience, I would have liked to see it from that perspective, especially when Arthur was giving his anti-establishment statements.
Arthur Fleck was taken to Arkham's medical facility after contracting Covid-19. His lawyers attempted to let him be treated outside considering his age but as per his 2006 hearing he is not permitted to leave the facility at any circumstances. Update 15/10/21: Arthur Fleck has tested negative and would be returned to his cell. No further incident is noted in Arkham's press release.
I remember him telling me stories from the next room… I replied, “ do you think the shrinks will buy them? Some of these shrinks are actually pretty smart and cunning.” 🤔🤔
I still can't get over that nobody decided to check that man before coming onto the show. Especially considering the clown riots that were happening at the time. Poor Murray he was the pioneer of talk show host, without him we wouldn't have guys like Letterman, O'Brian, Lenno ect.
I was a huge Murray Franklin fan and recorded every episode back in the day. The tape still holds up great, though I digitized it to be keep it preserved.
This happened the year I was born. The Franklin Act was passed by Reagan the following year. It increased screening and scrutiny for individuals going on radio and television talk shows. The act was controversial and was challenged in the courts as a first amendment issue. The same year, 1982, President Reagan backtracked on his stance regarding federal funding for mental health care in the USA. His bipartisan approach helped to increase standards in State hospitals and provided low or no cost medications and therapy for the mentally disturbed and disabled. The change of heart by the notoriously tight Reagan helped us reach a point today, in 2024, when the cities have lower crime rates, fewer addicts, less homelessness, etc. It is a sad thing that Murray died, but Arthur Fleck really did, unwittingly, change the country and make it a better place to live.
It’s actually scary how real this looks. I wonder if the next movie will have a scene where Bruce Wayne watches this and finds out that Arthur Fleck is the Joker! 🦇 vs. 🃏
My uncle would always go in the living room, turn on the TV, and watch Murray Franklin with his family when he was a kid, back when I wasn't even born yet. But one day, there was an interview that sounded so unusual. That guy was so evil he literally shot Murray on TV! It's sad how such a comedian and a host died because of this. It was a night to remember. A night that will live in infamy
I loved watching Murrays show back as a kid. My dad bumped into him once at a café. Talked to him for a few min and said he was a really down to earth kinda guy. R.i.p man.
I thought he never leaves the studio?
The best part was when they started airing an I Love Lucy rerun to pad out the rest of the time that was supposed to be for Murray's show.
The movie “Joker” tells the story of the man who shot Murray (Arthur Fleck) from his Point of View. It also tells the story of his life, what led him to cause the horrific crime he did , and even a recreational of the incident and after watching it…I feel sympathy for Arthur…
documentary lmao
If it was really a documentary, why weren’t there any interviews from multiple perspectives?
nigga this is literally a fuckin comic book character not a documentary
In the movie at first you feel sorry for Arthur. After that, you see how the movie develops, you eventually hate Arthur

this broadcast had influenced a lot in gotham city
(thomas wayne’s death , some other insane Psychopaths flinging out.. and now I heard the rumor that there is a guy who dressed like a bat appearing on the city in night…)
Hm weird.... i'm pretty sure i saw something moving last night in my roof, i might start closing my windows at night >.
There's conspiracy theory that Bruce Wayne is that bat guy. Or Batman as they call him.
Crazy theory if you ask me.
It’s kind of like Superman in Metropolis. However this Batman as some are calling him seems waaay more intense, but all in all I’m glad he seems to be fighting on the good side.
@@pressplayulysses Bruce Wayne is a billionaire businessman who has no time for promoting vigilante violence in an already dangerous ecosystem. There’s no correlation and those who conspire to that are just madmen who want to bring defamatory attention to Wayne enterprises and the hundreds of jobs it provides.
@@Scott... dosent he avoid taxes?
One of the most historical nbc moments of all time
I live it how its edited to cut off immediately after instead of having him come down the steps to the camera. Gives the feeling that this TV station was choosing cancel the broadcast as opposed to other stations keeping this whole thing on camera before the riots
I would love to have that whole scene in this style, even if it was in the bonus features.
This film is actually set in 1986, as a newspaper clip is shown to have Ukrainian disaster written on it. There was one that happened there, the Chernobyl accident, in 1986. Fun fact. This is definitely a realistic and haunting scene, too!
Weird since the synopsis and the script says it happened in 1981, probably just a mistake then
@@iambatman6120 Yes that's what I'm saying
And the movie that the Wayne Family were watching was called “Zorro, The Gay Blade” and that it was a blowout. That movie came out in 1981, and if it was a blowout then that would mean that it was very popular and I doubt it would’ve been popular if they were just showing it again.
So that begs the question of when is this movie set?
1981 or 1986?
@@chicoravelli5703 Well the script and synopsis indicates it's in 1981 so I would trust those
@@chicoravelli5703 Arthur was unreliabe narrator. That's also include the year
I love when people or a studio makes stuff like this. Makes the world feel more real and terrifying.
Some very good producing to cut to the wide shot as Joker shoots Murray i hope the control room team went on to do bigger things.
This is without a doubt one of the saddest and at the same time historic events for American and world TV, I remember seeing this live, That miserable thing ended Murray's life, four decades later I see it here on UA-cam and it is truly shocking.
Imagine IF we get a sequel and they show us something exactly like this in the beginning of the movie? 🤔 That'd be sick
Do i have news for you
My dad told me he remembers watching this live when he used to live in Gotham city back in 81. Crazy
Remember seeing this when I was around 9 years old. Was watching the show with my pops. It was really shocking and I didn’t know how to process it, and I looked to my father and he looked just as mortified. He assured me it was fake or something like that to protect my innocence. The aftermath was just as devastating. RIP Murray Franklin, and RIP to all the cops that’s lost their lives in the chaos that ensued afterwards 🙏🏽 ❤️
That must have left an imprint at such a young age.
The scary part is that this actually looks like an event that actually happened, makes me shiver in fear if that was really the case 😳
It’s from the joker
The tv or something whatever was just added in to make it look real
@@lTSVlBE yeah I know from Joker, good movie btw, but it's just that this alone would make people who see it for the first time and not see the movie think it was an event caught on camera. Pretty scary stuff

If I recall correctly, this was Murray’s retirement episode. He really went out with a bang. What a legend.
😂😂😂😂
My dad watched this when he was young. It’s crazy it’s been this long.
The editing of this "home recording" aesthetic is really well done. I appreciate when meta scenes like this, even bother to have it look shot with genuine equipment.
I remember when this was aired. Tragic.
Anyone else?
I remember it, crazy to think some guy is calling himself the Joker again, I heard it actually isn’t make up and hair dye this time, that’s just how he looks. Something about the new one is a lot more unsettling, like he’s just using the name cause he wants to do it and doesn’t care about politics. I hope Batman catches that sick bastard.
I laughed for days
The leg shake and panicked glances around the room after he takes the shot are SUCH great added details
When I watched this on theaters, I was thinking how the viewers must have felt when they saw this at the moment on tv, including the live audience, I would have liked to see it from that perspective, especially when Arthur was giving his anti-establishment statements.
This looks more disturbing on an old live tv than what was shown in the movie.
This is one of the few times where making something low quality actually enhances the experience.
aw man anyone but Murray....he never hurt anyone, he was always open minded. This was just mind blowing.
😅😅😅😂😂😂 🤡 🤡
Ah yes. I saw it happen live when I was a kid. Truly stuck with me after all these years.
My grandpa said when he saw this it brought back a repressed memory from him watching this back in 1981
Yo they finally found the actual footage
lol
You'd think they would've destroyed the footage, like they did with that one news reporter who committed suicide on national television.
@@TBONE_2004 please tell me your joking
@@MrGrass06 About destroying this footage, yes.
Good to see that a guest finally understood Murray enough to help him showcase some real brains on his show….I highly recommend
I saw this back in ‘81, I was in the UK and decided to turn on the telly to some American stuff, but good lord I never got over the sound
I still can't get over that nobody decided to check that man before coming onto the show. Especially considering the clown riots that were happening at the time. Poor Murray he was the pioneer of talk show host, without him we wouldn't have guys like Letterman, O'Brian, Lenno ect.
Well this does take place in the early 1980’s, Back then they did not have all the strict rules that are in place nowadays.
Poor Murray was such a humble and trusting guy he didn’t even worry about having this psycho killer on his show

There's a reason the phrase "Safety regulations are written in blood" is a thing, after all.

I was a huge Murray Franklin fan and recorded every episode back in the day. The tape still holds up great, though I digitized it to be keep it preserved.
My god I still remember watching this back then, felt like it was only 5 years ago, legit everyone was taking about it for months non stop
🦇 vs. 🃏
I'm 26 years old and I remember watching this live in the 80's.
My uncle said it was "very horrible, indeed". Murray was a nice and funny guy. I feel bad for my uncle who has to go through this when his favorite television host died. He was a legend.
And I can't believe you uploaded this broadcast on UA-cam. That's so hard to find that there are none available on the internet until now.
I remember this broadcast very well.
It was followed by an episode of Dallas.
watched the movie 2 years ago today in theaters. Perfect time on my youtube feed
If this was real it would’ve been comparable to R. Budd Dwyer killing himself in a press conference
Had to look up that footage after I saw Dankula's video, not surprised to see the full footage of him putting a bullet in his head with blood pouring out of his nose and his eyes slowly closing as death welcomes him is allowed but free speech is hindered so badly on this site lol
Yeah, the blood from his nose was like a waterfall
Not surprised Dwyer was mentioned here, that was definitely a shocker back in the day.

This was one of Murray's weaker skits. The show really started going downhill when they got those new writers in '79.
This wasn’t a skit he actually died. Everyone was devastated after this event. Gotham never recovered.
The skit was so bad that the show suddenly got cancelled. I assume it was because of bad reviews or something.
@@Scott... Yeah, the show had been going downhill, but bringing in this clown character was the final nail in the coffin. Murray always said that everyone deserves a shot, but it blew his mind to see how guests like this guy can totally kill a show. I used to think he had more brains than that.
