- In January 2020 Ricky Gervais skewered 'woke' Hollywood, made jokes about Jeffrey Epstein, Harvey Weinstein and Prince Andrew, and tackled topics such as MeToo and ISIS as he left his A-list audience wincing during his opening monologue at the 77th Golden Globe awards.
Tom Hanks, Robert De Niro, and Gwyneth Paltrow were left with stunned looks on their faces as Gervais mocked Felicity Huffman over the college admission scandal, branded James Corden a 'massive pussy' and ripped Judi Dench for 'licking' her own minge in his eight-minute speech.
In one moment which shocked the stars in the crowd, Gervais made a pointed remark about the death of pedophile billionaire Jeffrey Epstein. I live watching the juxtaposition of who was enjoying the roasts. Chris Evans surprisingly having a good chuckle, but how cool was it to see the entire Scorcese crew taking it all in stride. DeNiro, Pacino both rolling with it and Martin himself having a grand old time. Even Leo seemed genuinely on board with getting roasted. You can see it in the corners of the eyes.
Then you've got Spielberg, Tim Cook and who could top Tom Hanks's shocked face. Absolutely priceless.
Would have lived to have seen Ben Affleck get burnt as well, but can't have everything perfect.

@tiggerthecat1 I don't think that at all. I think Robert DeNiro is an absolute buffoon. Scorcese, I'm roughly ambivalent about. Pacino, basically a quieter version of DeNiro.
You can see a marked difference in the way they reacted to the grilling. I suspect that DeNiro may have reacted in the way he did to mirror Scorcese. I couldn't see Pacino's face much. I assume he mirrored DeNiro.
Both DeNiro and Scorcese seemed to have genuine smiles and laughter (note the wrinkling in the eyes that shows a more genuine smile).
Tom Hanks just looked like someone shoved a very cold popsicle up his butt.

The Epstein and Weinstein jokes were next level genius. He shived Hollywood's raging hypocrisy directly down their throats and I loved every minute of it. They need this played on a loop in every one of their houses.

This is probably the most well constructed speech ever. It perfectly balances telling the truth with comedy and never losses steam by turning into a rant.
Ricky was 100% extra savage that night. What a totally wild man. The delivery of every "joke" was on point, and he didn't stutter for a sec. on a single one of them, which makes us feel he really wasn't caring about anything. Simply memorable.
