Functional & Integrative Gastroenterology: A Holistic Approach to GI Symptoms
Вставка

- I was honored to give a Zoom lecture to UCLA students interested in Integrative Medicine @simatucla 🤓 on April 7, 2022.
It was inspiring to talk with these bright young students eager to learn more about a holistic approach to healing gut diseases!
The talk was on "Functional Gastroenterology" and what makes it unique and different from conventional gastroenterology. The emphasis in Functional Gastroenterology is improving the health of the gut microbiome -- our delicate ecosystem of trillions of bacteria in the gut! 💩
I presented 3 interesting patient cases:
1) John with Heartburn 🙍♂️
2) Sara with IBS and Constipation 🙎♀️
3) Sandra with Leaky Gut and Autoimmune disease 👩🦱
We reviewed the importance of food allergies and sensitivities and how every patient is UNIQUE and may need a different diet. 💯
Did you know your gut bacteria could be controlling your cravings?😱

Traditional medicine is lost. This needs to be taught in medical school and residency… 20 years ago all we did cover up the symptoms with medications (with numerous side effects).
Thanks for watching and commenting.

Very interesting video on how you went into holistic approach on many health issues.
Interesting to note that the root cause of health issues can be in the gut.
I have issues with my heart with scared tissues in my heart giving me angina pains on exertions.
I have noticed that I get gut issues after I have angina pains.
I get bloating, stomach aches, insomnia etc during the middle of the same night after angina pains.
Can you say what triggers this and how it can be avoided?
I'm so sorry to hear this. Unfortunately it's difficult for me to advise you personally here. You might want to keep a food journal to figure out for yourself which foods are causing you problems. I hope your health improves! Best wishes, RN
Thank u doc for the excellent information.... Doc could u plz make a video on diet chart for rheumatoid arthritis....?
Thanks for watching and the suggestion.
This is such a wonderful video. I’m in the final months of my training in functional nutrition. I’ve learned so much! Which lab do you use for fecal test?

@@dawnkulan4514 you're welcome
The videos are always informative- much appreciated.
I'd like to find out if our body aromas can also be affected by the food we eat, I've noticed that I dont really have allergies but rather some sensitivities that cause discomfort, also certain foods have a lasting, noticable effect on my body aroma and breath, is there an explanation for that perhaps?
Yes for example, garlic can affect body aroma. Sometimes bad breath and body odor are due to microbiome imbalances. Stay tuned for my next video coming soon on Candida/ SIFO it often causes body odor.
You knowledge and information sharing so helpful for a lack of words- thank you
@@karabo8847 Many thanks!
Dr. Rajsree, would you please create a video for those of us suffering with fibroids? Is there anything you recommend to patients to help them or is surgery the best option? Thank you!
Please check out my video on estrogen dominance, it covers fibroids
Do you do remote appts? I was diagnosed with GERD in 2006 and now have Barrett's esophagus.
Unfortunately no. Sorry to hear this. Thanks for watching. Definitely follow the recommendations of your GI doctor
For my colonoscopy I was prescribed Magnesium Citrate as part of the prep. It burned so much, but none of my doctors had any explanation for why. I also tried to take a smaller dose as a supplement a bit later. I had the same reaction. Have you ever run into that side effect?
Great question. Yes my actual favorite is a chelated magnesium which is only part magnesium citrate and mixed with other more gentler magnesiums like magnesium glycinate and taurate. I give my patients "Essential Magnesium" which seems to be gentle on the gut and is a combination of chelated magnesiums. You can learn more about it here:

How about calmag?
Hi, another question by me. I live in europa so I cant buy your magnsium supplement. I can buy mag citraat or bisglysinate or taurate. Which of the three is best constipation i you dont want the burning side effects?
An I also heard good reviews of cucumine for costipation? Or is that something you cant use every day?
Thanx for all your advice!
❤❤
Thanks so much for watching!
Great information 👍
Thanks for watching.
What antibiotics do you recommend for parasites?
It depends, but typically metroidazole is used for parasites. Thanks for watching.
Is it harmful to take digestive enzymes all the time? Should you only have to use them for a period of time?
No, if you find them helpful, there is no harm. Sometimes I suggest taking them after the meals in longterm use so that you don't suppress the body's initial normal production of enzymes (you are just supplementing additional)
So for SIBO red, or sweet potatoes are off limits?
Red and Sweet potatoes are often tolerated in small amounts, but everyone with SIBO is different
Can i take probiotics capsule open and powder mix with water because capsule are plastic material can i do is it worng or right ??
This is fine to do. Some probiotics come as powders as well.
Can food intolerance cause emotional distress too ?? If one don't digest eggs well can that cause crying the next day ??
Yes, due to the gut-brain connection, if there is inflammation in the gut, then mood can be affected as well.
Please suggest some function medicine related book..

Sorry I don't, but I'm sure there are online. Thanks for watdching.
Which probiotic do you recommend we dont get the same probiotic as u s
Usually 5+ strains of Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium. You can learn more by visiting my Supplement store to read about the various options I carry for comparison.
The gal with ibsc I bet they did actually find something. As a ER nurse I found the same thing in my patients with abdominal pain and constipation the technical name is FOS 😂 How embarrassing full of shite I can totally relate because I’ve been on my bathroom floor curled up in agony and have passed out from it but know if I head to the ER all they will find is shite.
Thanks for watching.
Ma'am,
I'm 24 yrs old (height is abt 5.4ft and weight just 46kg. My body doesn't absorb nutrition properly. If my colon doesn't get properly clean in the morning or i don't eat for 4 hrs, i end up with excessive gas, sharp headache and vomiting. I get heartburn when i drink soft drink, milk, milk tea or even on eating banana. I've had ultrasound, colonoscopy, endoscopy, stool test all are normal (though i have hemorrhoids and chronic anxiety disorder). Should i have test for SIBO?
Yes for sure. Definitely test for SIBO. Best wishes, RN
@@drrajsree Thank u so much ma'am 😊
@@shubham943 you're wlecome
Hlw....Are you fine now?I have exact same symptoms as you are and struggling with my health...I have lost immense weight that I scared to look at myself in front of the mirror..I did endoscopy and lots of blood test ...They came normal...Doc gave me 1 ibs medicine...But it doesn't work...
@@diyadutta49 I've been diagnosed with pelvic floor dyssnergia and chronic constipation. If all of ur reports are normal then i suggest u to get "Hydrogen Breath Test" for SIBO, Clostridium Difficile and Stool Culture tests done. U can also have "Fecal Calprotectin" test to check if u have IBS or not. Also u need to avoid certain foods to reduce gastritis 🙂
How old are u and how much is weight and height? 🙄
Mam i m having severe constipation... Should I use magnisium.. I saw in UA-cam, it's harmful for kidneys. Is it so? ..
Too much magnesium is harmful if you have chronic kidney disease; otherwise it's generally safe and well tolerated. You might like my video on Constipation:

sadly giving case studies proves nothing much other than that person may or may not have improved. Gut issues are complex and individual and almost finger print like in complexity. Bovine Lactoferrin is proving to be outstanding at addressing many hidden issues not able to be tested for. Food sensitivities are the worst to sort out. Citrate can inflame many guts. Mast cell activity can pin point so issues. Probiotics are also complex and often do not match the gut existing biome, so, taking probiotics can be indeed problematic, especially in high dose. MHTRF mutation and sulfasion is also an serios issue to treat, complexity after complexity, its hard and there is NO quick fix.
