One of my daughters wants a quilling (curled paper art)/painting of anything mermaid. So, in looking around for ideas, I saw this one. Especially these beautiful mermaids, which I'm sure I could probably draw, but it'd be much easier to trace...lol Also, I was wondering what brand of paint and brushes you use or recommend? Good Morning Christy, Sorry I don't do traceables, as I like to show you how to draw it yourself. However, because I provide the image of the final painting (in the video description below the video), you could print that in the size that your canvas will be and then just trace them from that print, but don't tell anyone I shared that trick with you...lol!!! As for the paint and brushes... for these tutorials I'm using a thin bodied student grade paint from Blick Materials called Blickrylics. They don't have the best pigment, but I like the consistency for layering and blending affects. I sell small sample sizes of the colors I use on my website (link below) if you want to try them before you invest in the larger bottles. Hello, It sounds like you may not be waiting long enough for the paint to dry. Sometimes, even if the paint seems dry to the touch, it can still be a little pliable, which means it can be re-softened with the moisture from another layer of wet paint. I would recommend that you just wait a little longer for the paint to dry before you do the next layer and try not to over-work the 2nd layer with too much pressure. I hope these tips help. Hi Judith, Sure, you could do this on a round board, you'll just want to plan for enough space in the middle for the number of mermaids that you want to include. Have fun painting, Michelle
Hi Charlotte, I purchase all my canvases already primed. It's easier for me considering how much I paint. If your canvas is not primed already when you buy it, you can use a layer of acrylic gesso. Gesso allows the acrylic paint to adhere to the canvas. Without a primed canvas, the paint with be be absorbed and soaked through the canvas. If the canvas is already white when you buy it, then it is primed and ready to go. I hope this helps!

I have done a lot of your videos with my younger niece and my sister and they were great you gave us diagrams you give us examples and you should is how to draw things on this one you have not showed us how to draw things it was a little disappointing. We had no idea how to draw mermaids and they just showed up. I love your work and the thing is you do. This one is just not as good as you were describe your other ones

Yeah I'm so hurt. I been doing this painting for 3 hours. I messed up on the bottom mermaid and I tried to fix it but it's not working out. So I feel like I may have to redo the entire thing

Whenever I go over dry acrylic with new paint, it pick the underlying paint back up and you can see the canvas again... What am I doing wrong?!!!
