You do beautiful work Tony! I've done this job 3 times now from OBN's video as a guide. I am lazy and my HS hero was a guy named Primitive Pete if that tips you off. I do basicly the same thing but use mostly a pair of wire cutters and never cut the wires. I nibble wedge cuts to remove the wires and open up the new cups then silicone seal rather than grommet. I buy Peltor 105's off the 'bay for $20. The whole job takes about an hour. Quick and dirty is all I need. Another great video! Kudos from Pismo!
Hi Tom, thanks for tuning in buddy. Yep I've seen OBNs video on his Peltor mod. I like it and actually was inspired by his conversion but I also like the aesthetics of my grommets.and I really don't mind cutting wires and making splices Thanks for watching and all the best from SoCal.
nice work tony!! those older excaliburs with the sea search coil and blue headphones were the best machines ever made you still can find them on ebay they command a premium in price!! GL&HH
Cool video Tony!Love your Mod videos alittle late for me as i just got a pair from Mal for my Xcall with the the CTX endcap. So next weekend I will be installing your PinPoint mod along with Mals headphone mod and hopefully i will pull it off and have a super Xcall....
I have the gopro with me every hunt then i leave it in the jeep...I gotta start filming my hunts i found lots of buetiful rings this summer that i wish i had on video...
Thanks for sharing Tony! If you're going to get into mods, maybe a dremel would be better for cleaning up the speaker edges. At least a bit more safe? :) love seeing the tape, haven't seen it used since my grandfather showed me!
Hi Elizabeth. Thanks for the input. I own two Dremel tools and a lot of tooling but In this case I think I have better control taking the work to the tool. I've done quite a few of these headphone mods and so far have kept all the skin on my knuckles😄. Yeah, the tape is great. Thanks for tuning in kiddo. All the best..
You use the same technique as I for cutting wire jackets with a blade, fun watching you work on the bench. That butyl electrical tape is great stuff man! We use it on wire harnesses at work. All you young bucks pay attention to Tony he's got some time tested tips. When you get heat shrink get the stuff with good internal adhesive to ensure a nice water tight seal when you shrink it.
Holy #$$^@ Tony! These headphones sound WAAAYYYYY better than my GreyGhosts on my Excalibur & are are WAY WAY WAYYYY more comfortable & noise canceling...I even put them on the CTX ( I run a CTX connector on both machines)& although the vol. isn't louder in db (due to the CTX circuitry) it has much better usable vol due to noise reduction..No more hearing the waves & people around me. BRAVO!!!!! See u @ the sand.
Great to hear buddy! I was hoping you would be getting back to me with yer review. I'm glad it's a positive one. Good luck on the beach dude. I'll see you there
Great mod Tony. I would love to only hear the detector and nothing else. Then again I'm always in the water so I have to stick with the original yellow headphones to be able to hear when someone is yelling SHARK. It only happened once and scared the crap out of me but it turned out to be a Manatee.
Yeah they definitely knock out most of the ambient noise. My hearing is getting pretty bad so I need all the help I can get. My wife calls it selective hearing :-). So are you sure your manatee wasn't just a floating shirt?
Nice video, Tony, I did notice that you sort of glossed over the wire splicing part, though! I could have used a bit more detail. When I finished the mod, I could only hear the faintest sound from only one side. What do you think is the problem?
Het tony thanks for sharing your knowledge. I have a pair of grey ghost headphones on my excalibur. I've thought about a different type of headphone since these bigger o e get hot and sweaty. What are some alternatives? I've seen some ear bud style that were modified, or what about a waterproof style like the equinox that are much smaller. Do you make any one of these types. I already have the modified end cap with a fm CTX style adapter. Thx
thanks for the video Tony, I think I will do this to my dualfield and the wife's sea hunter 2. how did you neatly feed the wire in/ around the headband?
Hi Len. Actually I haven’t done this mod for several years. The problem I ran into was the unpredictable life left on the original headphone cord. I would do the mod and a few months later the cord would fail. I now replace the stock Koss headphones with my Custom Waterproof Headphones with a new cord. (Best phones out there IMHO😄) If yer interested, email me and I’ll give you all the details. tony@idigbeaches.com. Thanks for watching buddy.
I had a pair of those gel pads on a set of Peltors. Very comfortable. I think I'll try a set on my blue mods when the stock pads get hard and brittle. Thanks for watching mate. All the best from SoCal
Tony has done my headphones and they truly are a sweet setup.... all day comfort and killer sound with no outside noise.....Thanks so much brother for the cool mod on my heater!!
Hey tony, i have an at pro and i am trying to get waterproof ear buds to work with it. Can i get at pro plug adapter cut the adapter off solder in headphone wire and use liquid tape and shrink tube to make waterproof
I just tried something similar on my Minelab blue headphones - cable from one side to another crapped out. Water got inside of that cable and it is corroded. How do you glue back sponge thing to the base of the headphones? (yellow and blue)
Tony, love the mod. I'm thinking about doing this with my Dual Field. Any reason why I couldn't use the slimmer white MSA Left Rights? They apparently don't block out quite as much noise, but still seem pretty nice as long as there is room for the electronics. Any thoughts?
Tony, I should have sent mine to you. My excal went to FLA. I am sure ML repair are working hard but 8 weeks? Plus... My Whites headphones are noisey also.
I'm pretty sure your phones could be converted. You would love this mod. I can fix an over torqued disc/pinpoint switch but I don't have any replacement pots.
Tony Eisenhower I would like to check them out. You hit the nail on the head. " Over torqued". Cant wait to get it back. The switch mod looks cool too.
Hey Cap. I don’t see any reason why not. Do you have a speaker in mind? Where would you want it mounted. We’re you thinking of using waterproof connectors with a jack installed on the pod so that you could use either phones or speaker? There’s a lot to consider here😄. Another option might be bone conductive headphones like on the Deus II. They don’t cover the ears.
@@TonyEisenhower I haven't picked a speaker yet. I'm still in the research phase. I noticed that the headphones have their guts bedded in epoxy. does that mean they have buzzers instead of true speakers? I was going to hardwire everything as the jack seems like a major fail point. I don't think I can use bone conduction since I dive cold water and have to wear a thick hood.
nice one ,will do this to my AT PRO headphones as they suck and the fit is horrid , try some shoe goo it also works great to repair your boots ;) i used it to waterproof my headphones ,i have got a video on it but your mod is far better ;)
ok thanks tony.is that. Robert Ferguson. excalibur. dot put it. no over gold like the silver snuffer aka russ lol📹🏡✌📼love your videos im in Kansas city Kansas 66102
Wow I'm going to do mine I love my Xcal #2 she is a great detector fin1000s in gold rings gold chains and nuggets and coins wow love my Xca#2 thank you so much
It's a good mod, lemme know if ya need any help. Good luck😄 BTW, there's a white pair of MSAs which have a lower dba rating but they have a smaller profile and are a little cheaper. Check em out..
Tony, great mod anyone can accomplish. Very nice job and great video. Thanks for taking the time to show us all how to do a great ear muff change.
5 star workmanship
Woah... thanks!
Mr. Eisenhower,Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us.
Definitely my pleasure :-). I really enjoy doing these mods.. thanks for watching
Excellent mod tutorial video Tony! Thank you and HH!
Totally cool watching you work! Really enjoyed it.
Thanks buddy. I really enjoy doing em😀
Good job Tony, looks professional, having the right tools for the job is a plus, thanks for sharing and the helpful viideo...
Thanks bud. Yep tools are essential. I don't have many but the ones I have do double duty😃 Thanks for watching...
You are the master of modification! Great video! ATB,GL,HH
Thanks Jeff. I really enjoy doing these things so I appreciate your comment. All the best buddy.
OMG...nice modification...great job Tony...👍i love ur vidio
Thank you sir. And thank you for watching I appreciate it..
Great mod, Tony. I enjoyed the video. I never thought about doing something like that before. Thanks for sharing. GL&HH
And it really isn't that difficult Jerry. Just takes a little patience and a few good tools. Thanks for the comment buddy and all the best.
Hi Tony, thank you for your tutorial I am very happy with my new headphones in my Excalibur 2. 🎧

Thanks for watching
Good work as usual Tony!
Thanks Pete. That's high praise coming from you.. All the best buddy..
Glad to see you back Tony very good 😎
Thanks John good to be back :-)

Why thank you😁

Cracking show Tony thank you for sharing.
Thanks Thomas. Appreciate it..

I just got a heck of a deal on an old Excal Sword. Good old machine but I hope nuthin breaks on it😆
Excellent vid. Thank you. Ergonomic style headphones yay!
Thanks Chris. Yes I'm all about ergonomics ha ha ha ha..

nice video tony
Thank you :-)

This is genius, Thanks Tony! 🎧🔊🔊
I haven't got to the point of being board of beach hunting as of yet 😁
Thanks 👍

LOL no it was a Manatee and the battery died in my camera and I didn't know. I would have been some great footage.
Good video, thumbs up!
Thanks James..
very nice job-neat
Thanks Joe. All the best buddy.

Hey bud. Sorry yer having difficulty. Email me your phone number and I’ll call ya to try to help sort it out. Email addy is in the comment section.

I build quality custom headphones. Email me Dude for details:
tony@idigbeaches.com
thanks for the video Tony, I think I will do this to my dualfield and the wife's sea hunter 2. how did you neatly feed the wire in/ around the headband?
The MSAs are designed to accommodate that wire. The headband comes apart and there's a wire way built in.
ok thanks Tony, I will take a closer look at the headband
Would you be willing to do this to my excalibur ll ?
If yes what would the cost be? That was an excellent video.

Thanks for watching buddy.
Hi mate, great video. Do you think is it still waterproof for scuba diving ?
Absolutely. Unless my waterproof splice fails which ain't likely as I do have skills😆
Joe managed to get me a set of gel pads for headphones (stupid price in Europe) so comfy compared to plastic foam filled.
I had a pair of those gel pads on a set of Peltors. Very comfortable. I think I'll try a set on my blue mods when the stock pads get hard and brittle. Thanks for watching mate. All the best from SoCal
Cool, so comfortable and the sound isolation is so good.
I see you used Dustin and Dylan for the headphone models!!
Tony has done my headphones and they truly are a sweet setup.... all day comfort and killer sound with no outside noise.....Thanks so much brother for the cool mod on my heater!!
LOL!! Yes, I see it now. An uncanny resemblance...
Where can i buy those headphones please! THanks and atb,hh gl
Hi Jeff. I get the MSA muffs in bulk from an industry supplier but you can get them for a little more than what I pay from Amazon.
Hey tony, i have an at pro and i am trying to get waterproof ear buds to work with it. Can i get at pro plug adapter cut the adapter off solder in headphone wire and use liquid tape and shrink tube to make waterproof
That’s exactly how I would do it Jared. Give it a go and let me know how it works out..
I just tried something similar on my Minelab blue headphones - cable from one side to another crapped out. Water got inside of that cable and it is corroded.
How do you glue back sponge thing to the base of the headphones? (yellow and blue)
Send me an email I'll send you back some pics of how this all works :-)
Will do ASAP!
Thanks!
Nice handy work. My excal has older blue headphones and CTX connector. Yellow is just not my color.
Good old machine... I don't think the new ones are much improved..
It is Excalibur II with older modded headphones.
Cool👍
Mr.Heisenhower,What insulating material is used for an electric piezo? min 17: 47, it looks like silicon.
It’s self sealing electrical tape. I show the box it comes in at around 17:10
@@TonyEisenhower Thanks ,very friendly.
I need to replace the cable on my Excalibur, does anyone know what cable to get. It's four wire..Is it microphone cable?
Check with McMaster Carr
Tony, love the mod. I'm thinking about doing this with my Dual Field. Any reason why I couldn't use the slimmer white MSA Left Rights? They apparently don't block out quite as much noise, but still seem pretty nice as long as there is room for the electronics. Any thoughts?
I think the white MSAs would be great. I use the white cups exclusively now. A little harder to stuff everything in but I like the final result..
Tony, I should have sent mine to you. My excal went to FLA. I am sure ML repair are working hard but 8 weeks? Plus... My Whites headphones are noisey also.
I bet I could mount yer Whites in these muffs. What do they look like..
Those guys at ML repair are really good to work with. They're always backed up.
Tony Eisenhower , thdy are the starndard dual field yellow set.
can you do a pot on excal?
I'm pretty sure your phones could be converted. You would love this mod. I can fix an over torqued disc/pinpoint switch but I don't have any replacement pots.
Tony Eisenhower I would like to check them out. You hit the nail on the head. " Over torqued". Cant wait to get it back. The switch mod looks cool too.
not bad tony show us your yard work👏📹🎧
Hi Will, Thanks for watching buddy. I uploaded a video which shows the finished yard work project here: ua-cam.com/video/w_1hwsGZ6JQ/v-deo.html
Nice mod, very good video
Thank you sir...
I use my excalibur exclusively underwater and I HATE having headphones. is there any reason I can't mount an underwater speaker instead?
Hey Cap. I don’t see any reason why not. Do you have a speaker in mind? Where would you want it mounted. Hey crazy! Thanks for tuning in buddy. I actually use shoe goo on a lot of things. It's good stuff but really messy :-) all the best my friend.
BTW, those MSAs are occasionally available on Amazon prime fir around $35 bucks..
thanks ,i got a good set of ear defenders from our safety shop and rigged them up ,they dont move a bit and cut out all outside noise ,all for £11 ;)

Do folks these days know that saw is called a "coping saw"? Methinks not. Just saying.
Methinks not as well :-) I think I got this from my grandfather back in the 50s. Some might call it a manual scroll saw 😄
