My Excal has the same drama, will have to give mine a renewal too. Thanks for the guide, I wouldn't have thought of doing it myself but after watching your video I most definitely will.

Hi, just a few tips. I've done this repair many times. Firstly, to get the board out set the knobs all to zero except the disc/pp which should be in the pp position. Second, when you remove the cables its best to either drill a bigger hole from the epoxy side to the base of where the wires enter , that way you can put a cable tie around the cable inside for extra strength which is how minelab do it. Otherwise you can remove all the epoxy with a dremel then refill it completely when you are done . In the video I noticed you used Silicone not epoxy to set the wires, not a good plan. With the battery cable, these always break where they enter the plug (because Minelab over tighten them in the factory. This is usually the first problem that occurs on an Excalibur. Well done on the fix and video but I thought I'd mention these points in case others copy what you've done.

Tim - great video. You sure put some hours in on this one. Glad you mentioned the knob alignments - that probably saved me from all the grief you went through as I'm just getting ready to pull the circuit board out. Regards Jim from Florida.

Hey Tim Just bought the ex. from ebay same problem except mine appears to be be the headset end going to give it a try. By the way to make your soldier flow try rosin flux also to test your wires with a multi meter just set to ohms touch your leads together and the meter will go to zero same with your wires . Touch one lead to one end the other lead to the other end if it zeros out the wire good if not you have a bad wire . Thanks for being brave I am off to my shop to fix mine

Excellent video and thanks for taking the risk for the rest of us! I've taken apart the end plug going to the battery on one of my Excals - but still get the crackles. Also get an electric shock to the ears thru the headphones any time I put the coil in the water...hahaha...but still nervous about taking on the wiring...!

    • @beachdetectingthemoneypotb7265

Great point one situation that Minelab hasn’t come to the table with .How do you know when your machine is charged when it has no indicator, pretty sad !!!
I use a multimeter to see how much charge you should get to 14.80 volts more than that the batteries get red hot 🥵 and you get no charge and kill batteries
I use a car charger now which gives a constant 13.8 volts that takes about half an hour to fully charge , I also feel battery pack the whole time to see if it is getting hot
Warning (if they get too hot they do explode) warning ⚠️
Thanks for bring it up TD great points to learn

The wires are poor quality and minelab quoted $450 for replacement plus shipping. I have 10 years on mine and the cables literally crumbled to pieces. Good detector but I wouldn't purchase again.

Yes I know 😁 I have to go back and re seal it again with apoxy where I replacing the battery side cord , so I’ll do it then , and forgot to say in video , also there was heaps of silicon still left there from when I opened it up , so since I’m not going under water I thought just for now , I will see if it last 1 hr walk down beach swinging before I got too excited that it was 100 % fixed
Good spotting though , for others reading 📖 comments ✅ TD

Steve Edwards fuckin funny I knew someone would notice kicked myself at the end and it was the only part left on the bench and it won’t fit over coil , funny
Was going to cut it and slip it back on with glue , but
      What you going to do

Beach Detecting the Money Pot by Tim Davies done it many a time mate with various electrical and mechanical bits. You'll be right though as that's only a cover to stop sand getting near the end cap seal I think. I'd cut it then glue it on over the cap. They use super glue at the service centres aparently. Good job anyway mate. A vid to keep👍
