Porsche 911 992 Launch Control Carrera 4s - the 992 launch control feature can catapult the new Porsche 911 from 0-62 in just 3.6 seconds. Pretty incredible. Both the S & 4s are widebody cars, this car was kindly loaned to me by Porsche Centre Teeside. I can’t wait to try the 992 GT3 launch control and 992 Turbo launch control.

Bought a 1999 Porsche Boxster 2.5 yesterday. Not particularly fast but still quick enough. Guess 0-60 is mid 6 seconds. However virtually everything else is awesome. Super light, nice sounding engine, quick steering, easy to shift, great for touring back roads. I am in the auto industry and particularly like 1992-2005 sports cars. I think I bought a winner!

I’ve had my 986 S for 4 years now, I could never sell it. A proper drivers car, well balanced, fast enough to enjoy in the real world. It has very few drivers aids unlike modern cars which I like, not to mention 6 cylinders right behind you making a beautiful soundtrack. Visually I love the simple / elegant look, modern cars are just too fussy ie have too many lines and creases to my eyes. Can’t recommend them enough!!!

I love my "first run" 986 more and more each day. A pleasure to work on and the drive is so pleasing you don't want to arrive. I strongly urge anyone considering one of these cars to jump on board as you wont regret it.

I first bought my first Porsche was when I was 19 it was a 911 sc I kept it for 3 years then I had to sell it for a deposit on my first house . Now I’m in my early 50 s I’ve just bought my second Porsche a 997 4 s .

My first Porsche was a 968, purchased for about C$13,000 in 2008. That same car today is worth about twice that.
On to my second P-car now - bought a 996 last week.
I would’ve considered a 986, but there isn’t enough leg room in it for me. I’m 6’2”. The 996 is much roomier.
All Porsches are great, but the Boxster/Cayman/Carrera are in another league from the front-engined cars. No other car feels like this to drive. You can’t understand until you try it.

I recently bought a 1999 Porsche 986 boxster with 96,000 miles. I absolutely love it. I budgeted money for it because I had to get a new clutch, rear main seal and oil separator. I have a 996 short throw shifter with a full fabspeed exhaust. Beautiful car and amazing to drive. Perfect entry level Porsche.

My first Porsche is a 1998 986 Boxster. I have owned it 20 years and it still puts a smile on my face. I did modify it by dropping a 3.4 liter 996 engine into it, but the handling in the canyons is what got me to buy it 20 years ago. I love the AeroKit II you have on your Boxster. Basically GT3 front end and side skirts. I have mentioned this before... Looks great with 18s, but looks really great with those 19 inch lobster claw wheels. Or any other 19 inch wheel porsche makes. The 987's have great oem 19 inch wheels that will fit your 986. If you were going to keep it I would recommend investing in 19 inch wheels for it!

    • @jadmann

How did you map the 3.4L upgrade in 986? I’m interested in dropping a higher liter engine in my 2.7L.

What 19” wheels do you recommend to replace the lobster claws? Not a fan of LC rims! I’ve got 18” 911 alloys staggered equipped now!

You sure do know how to make me feel good for owning one of these boys! It's a beautiful car, inside and out. Any criticism towards its mechanical practicality is subjective to how their owners treated the car (highway/city driving). With the look almost "stolen" from the 550 Spyder, the Boxster retains a innocent yet passive-aggressive look over the years. It's main body line from the front head light to the tail light form a line that reflects the horizon above, and the ground below. Showing how Porsche calculated it's design, as well as giving it unique features. Cheers mate

Hi. Bought one of these when they came out, my first Porsche. 2.5l. Silver with red interior and hard top. Then a 3.2 S in seal grey, again with hard top. Then in 2007 bought a silver 987. Loved it but wasn’t the same. Then, in 2012 I bought a yellow 986 with only 14k miles on totally pristine. Also, was lucky enough to buy a ‘2nd’ Boxster and so bought a red 987, but after a while I sold that and chose to keep the 986 as it meant more to me. I’ve still got it, it’s a 2003 model (53) and I also managed to buy a yellow hard top which was really hard to find. Now has 17k miles on it. Love it. Totally factory spec, black leather interior. Had many other marques and much more ‘desirable’ cars but this is easily the prettiest and best value for money, smile per mile 2 seater car available. A special car for Porsche and it reminds me of being a 28 year old. It’s my time machine and the CD changer is full of retro music from the time I bought my first. Love it. Great vids by the way! Might join the club now.

My first Porsche Boxster was a 1999 2.5 tiptronic. I still have it. I look and take note of what I could buy and think to myself ‘Why?’ I’ve just today been for a thrash over The Trough of Bowland and my little 2.5 is equally as good as others. By the way, I’ll be 75 next month, my bearings are just fine as are the ones in the Boxster.

Like your videos Planning on buying a Cayman, 2.7 or 2.9. I already have a convertible, a 2002 BMW Z3 that I absolutely love, so that is the main reason for a Cayman rather than a Boxster. Your videos are very helpful for making informed decisions on buying and owning. Thanks again. And yes I subscribed. Cheers.

I’ve recently become a fan of the looks of the 986. Especially in the right color and with the right wheels. As a 2008 Cayman S owner I’ve long lusted over the 981 Boxster actually, thinking that even after trading in my Cayman I would still be stretching my budget to afford a 981. But if I get a 986 instead I would actually pocket some money after all is said and done.

Beautiful example of the 986. My first Porsche was an Ocean Blue 986 Boxster 2.7. So, pretty much this car! Never felt as connected to the road in any car since, and that includes various BMW M’s and Golf R’s, all of which have been mightily impressive cars. I now have a 996 C4, which I love, and because of the interior similarities with the Boxster has been like reacquainting myself with an old friend. Two months in and I am still learning how to get the best out of the 911.

From the perspective of aesthetics alone the 986 is a smart move. Just looking at the car's classic lines will tell you that it will continue to rise in appreciation over time. Its bloodline runs straight from the classic Spyder of the 1950's. From the front, it's unmistakably Porsche, while from behind; it's the best looking car in decades. No Z3, Vette or Miata can compete with it in terms of looks.

I always wanted a porsche from being a kid. I remember going on a day trip to france with school waiting to get on the ferry at Dover, when looking out of the window there was a transporter loaded with 911 chassis. That was in the 80s so nowadays there was some serious money on that truck. Now I'm 41 just split up with the wife after 15 years and am watching this thinking it's time to get something to put a smile back on my face, maybe it's time for that porsche I always wanted. Nice video by the way. Thanks

I agree to everything said here. Especially the community part. I'm member of PC Sweden and it is a really nice community. Unfortunately most activities where put on ice this year due to Covid-19.
Prices in Sweden are quite much higher but compares roughly the same to competing brands. It's a pity the steering wheel is on the wrong side in the UK. Most used Swedish ones are imported privately from Germany.
Some of the downsides I'd say are:
1: It does not look great with the top on to be honest. It loses that signature Porsche profile then.
2: On my 2004 model everything that is not part of the engine transmission etc is quite cheaply manufactured with a low quality feeling. Not that uncommon with sport cars but came as a bit of a surprise to me. I used to have a Volvo from 2004 and there everything felt much more solid.
3: The sound system will be outdated. Not a big thing for me as I still use CDs or the radio but younger drivers who expect BT or similar will be disappointed. you can upgrade it (somewhat expensive!) but I feel it has a value to stay original.
It drives very well but beware when it gets slippery! Mid engine cars will 'lose it' without much warning. In Swedish winter conditions it is good to establish where the limits are and keep well off them.

I would absolutely love to get a 2007 Boxster S in a couple of years. I've taken a ride in a friend's 2005, and it was fantastic. It just feels and looks truly amazing. I figure the 2007 would be good because it gets the 3.4L but doesn't have the well-increased price of the 2008. Thanks for the videos!

Great review, and great looking Boxster. I've been driving a few Porsche's in Forza Horizon 4 (which is set in the UK) and it looks an awful lot like what you're doing here!
I'm about to start driving a 2009 Mini Cooper S, which I'm fairly excited about, but I've had my eye on a Boxster 986 for some time. I know I'm going to buy one, it's just a matter of when.

This is a brilliant and one of the bests Porsche Boxster video's I have seen, first 2 weeks ago and just again now so I thought I would leave a reply now It is so inspiring to any first time buyer for sure.
So inspiring that I have just agreed to sell my tricked out Harley Davidson FXDB 1600cc Street Bob / Bobber style conversion which cost me an additional £1500 spent to a dealer at dealer prices to buy a Black 3.2 2000 with 96000k on it with 4 new tyres, 2 new Coil springs, Full set of new coil packs and spark plugs, and New Bosch air flow meter. All Coolant radiators are in good condition. It has had 2 new Aircon radiators and serpentine belt. There is a receipt for a Clutch several years ago. It has the face lifted smoked lights so no dated looking amber indicators. The car has been regularly serviced and comes with a very comprehensive history of service and receipts, a lot of which has been carried out at Porsche) Full Stainless steel sports exhaust including manifolds and Sportcats, it also has the original factory mild steel items. Black on black leather, In my opinion the best colour combination. Looks great, sounds Awesome, and drives beautifully. Car has lots of service history and receipts. In the last year the car has had nearly £2000 spent on it.
And with enough to buy a second hand VGC set of 4 Alloy BBS GT3 split rims. All straight with no cracks or welds with brand new Hankook Evo tyres. All straight with no crack or welds.
I am a "Smiles per gallon guy ;)
    Take care all.

I can really feel the passion this man has for Porsche. Last year I purchased an older model, all stock, Nissan 350z roadster. I love it, absolutely love it. I've owned others like the Mazda Miata MX-5, which was also great. However, my dream car has always been the Porsche since I was a kid. I really think I will purchase a Boxster, nothing over the top, very much older around the year 2000, although I love the 06 and later models due to the headlight change, but those are out of my price range at the moment. '99 to '02's have been right in my range so far. I plan to do most of the work myself, so I feel it is time to seriously find a good one for myself. Thanks for your video, really appreciate it a lot!

Nice video and just come across it now. My first Porsche is my current, a 992 GTS I've had from new and enjoying it thoroughly. However, I'm looking to add one of these as a daily now, so found your video very useful. The only thing that is worrying me a bit is the IMS scaremongering that you see online. But I'll take your advice and try and look for one with a good service history, even if it costs more than some of the rougher cars on the market. Many thanks!

I just purchased a 2003 Porsche Boxster S, with 5800 miles. The car was owned by a rich woman who paid $58,900 when it was new. The car was garage kept and well taken care of, it really looks new.

Just picked up my 1999 986 and absolutely love it.
Found a few oil leaks through the PPI report (valve covers and coils). The shop believes the oil separator and PCV failed which caused the leaks (?).
Aside from that, the rear left wheel bearing needs to be replaced, too.
Figured my father and I can tackle everything, including general maintenance).
The shop quoted over $8k. Seemed a little excessive.
