- I finally got around to edit a video to this song that I started composing back in 2013! Took a while, didn't it? ;) It's been a long process of trying to figure out how I could best illustrate the song and make it look as good and catchy as I possibly can. I had so many ideas of old retro styles and techniques I wanted to implement, but I lack the skills to make them efficiently in Adobe After Effects, so it's all just done in Final Cut Pro X as best as I could.
Hope you still find this enjoyable and thank you for watching! ;)
Thanks to:
The Media Horder for letting me use this footage ( • Operating Instructions... )
and Adar Moritz for a few clips in the TVs ( • the 80's music festiva... )
The song is available on all formats:

Looks like I won something for being the viewer No. 50,000 :)
Hehe, indeed! If I had something I could have sent something. Alas, guess we’ll have to settle for the glory of a pinned comment! 😁🎉💫
@@AndersEngerJensenwhat a nice surprise! mange takk :)
@@AndersEngerJensen Wait, you get THAT kind of information from youtube?? That's very cool.
Technology Connections had this on a vinyl to demonstrate something and I fell in love with the song. A real quality piece.
Same
Same, haha. Such a great channel
I believe it was an automatic record changer.
Same

Who's here from technology connections?
another connection made!
You said this a year ago, but wow I can't believe the connection!!
You bet!
Most people here, I think
@@gwyneddboom2579 I just found this guy in the wild. A song, "Alpha Centauri B," was reccomended to me yesterday, and I haven't been able to stop listening since.
The guy who narrated the commercial back then was amazing. He could tell you how to pick your nose when you wake up and it would still sound like the most mature, confident and useful instruction you could ever hope to hear in your life.
x'D ROFULZ 😂🤣😂
If this song came out when the DiscoVision did, we probably would all have one in our living rooms today.
Please never stop making music, Anders
Ever since I heard the "D-D-DiscoVision" sample, it still goes through my mind to this day :D
When the red light comes on...
Simply press STOP!
"The best 10 seconds of electronic music"
Anytime I hear somebody say the word "disco", it reminds me of the "d-d-d-d-discovision" bit on this song. I've heard plenty of your stuff over the years, but this is my favourite song you've released. That bit of the song is fantastic! The beginning sounds like something you'd see on an 80's TV show of the protagonist driving a fashionable car on a highway by the seaside on the evening.
**Automatic record changing intensifies**
Hmm...I wonder what this could be a reference to.
@@rileycoyote4924 I really hope you know
It's some guy in a brown suit that keeps talking about old yet interesting tech
Was watching today’s video from Technology Connections (it was on the Fisher DAC-145) and he played a quick bit of this song when showing the device. I immediately shazamed it, then listened to the whole album. Amazing! This song reminded me as a great mix of Avicii and RainbowDragonEyes. This is definitely going on my playlist!
Exactly the same here! But knew of ander long before with the 8 bit guy. :)
Hard to believe that literally a audio user manual is made into a perfect retro song.
video
Much better than Elton John's song about the manual that came with his oven.
Obligatory "Thank you Alec" for showing off this awesome tune
If I ever time travel to the 80's, I'm so taking this with me!
I think if this was a song in the 80s it would've made LD that much more popular.
I was at a rave like 12 years ago and the DJ performing did something like this but it was various automated phone operator messages for this voice part.
Takes me back.
This one’s better I think.
"Discovision: let you be the boss"
Damn that hits so hard every time
I do appreciate that every time you had the narrator guy say "press stop", all the parts stop playing for like a half beat (not a hard cutoff of sound, just no new notes played for that time).
EDIT: And lost the heart cause I edited the comment...
rip
What you are describing is called "word painting", and it's actually pretty common in music. Used right (such as this song), it's also quite enjoyable.
I’ve never heard of Discovision until 10 mins ago and this video just got me so hyped for it!!
I've probably watched this video and listened to this song more than is healthy....
87600+ times?
This is both an excellent meme and an excellent song.
I am convinced if this song existed back then and was used as promotional material, then lazerdisc would've easily won the format war of its time.
What an absolute banger, love it!
That pluck bass line is just... Hoo, I wanna give it a hug.
Perfect use of the “simply press stop” sample, I think I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve listened to this now! There’s something about this song that makes it so catchy!
Found this song on Spotify and im in love !!!!
Legendary !!!
I used to think “electronica” and stuff like this couldn’t have emotion and true feelings behind it. But as I’ve aged, my opinions have changed. It started with MOOG’s music from Mighty Car Mods. I heard this on a Techmoan video a fell in love. The breakdown at 3:28 is RAMMED full of angst and raw emotion.
Jesus Christ this song slaps. Hard.
Like this track, its masterpiece. And "D-D-D-DiscoVision " sample is literally meme, i love it. Its literally legendary thing
In 1984, I remember watching Animal House on one of these connected to a huge projection TV with a surround sound system and thinking: it’s nice to have $$$.
I removed the drum track and drum to this on my kit. Love the chorus drum sequences. Just get waaaay to into the groove... Found this guy through Technology Connection! Keep makin this music!
...While I know of him from The 8-Bit Guy. I'm now wondering if instrumental parts of this will end up in a computer video. :-)
Still fun, Anders!
How did you remove the drum track?
@@fwoppydwisk I presume he has the stem mixes and MIDI track from my Patreon support page. :)
Holy crap! I love drumming along to Anders' music too! He leaves plenty of space in there for improvising too, great fun!
If this was the commercial for this product when it released, it would still be the most popular media platform today.
A song about Laserdiscs too?! This is awesome!!! Gonna dig into your channel more after this!
i was 3/4 asleep in bed when this song came up in my spotify and i fever dreamed a whole ass music video to it
This will come across as either really sweet, or really creepy. But my son is named Jensen, legitimately taken from your last name. He will be 1 in May :)
Never stop making music Anders!
This is so underrated, I still wait for the day that this randomly hits the algorithm!
This song is so damn good. I can't explain why - it just scratches a particular brain itch that I didn't know I had until I heard this for the first time. My childhood fascination with audio/video equipment and my current love of electronic music are combined into one glorious retro-futuristic fever dream.
Hehe! Thanks, glad to hear that! Nice to know I’ve struck a certain chord! 🤘🏼🤩
You have the power to turn any product demo/advertisement into an awesome retro song.
As much as I love Morning Dew, Falling In Love With You, the 8 Bit Remix, even Kittens Away, I think this is your masterpiece.
When you realize you have been listening to the same track for 6hrs and let it play for another 6.
Great tribute to technology that was way ahead of it time already had flicked of todays internet in a far more primitive form, computer control over sound, moving and still picture, text and now we watch sound and vision of this history on youtube and look youtube repeats any uploaded sound text and picture never lost its basic principle but today it far more advanced.
Thanks.
0:37 DISCOVISION, where you can be the boss.
Unbelievable to myself, but this song gave me a restart of my laserdisc love. At the time the song was created I had maybe 30 to 40 discs. Today at least 200. But they are getting more expensive the longer you collect, but this song stays the same ;-).
Just saw the 103K views for this song. Congratulations! But, ... you should add another 10K just be me, playing the song from MD 🙂.
Anders - It's amazing how many folks back then didn't know about the Disco-Vision and what it could do back then. Once again, you integrate well your excellent keyboard skills coordinated well with vintage footage. You capture the essence of an awesome period in time and give it a modern groovy feel. You make wonderful music videos and I am a Raving Fan!
Thanks! That’s very nice to hear! :D I wish I had these back when I grew up, but we couldn’t afford it. I knew one who did though and we were all envious of it. All we had was the Esselte Movieboxes in the mid 80s. 😁🤷🏼♂️
I recently was given a 2,200 watt stereo system from the 1980s; speakers the size of me and all that. I just got done setting up some sound reactive LEDs for it, and it felt only appropriate that this be the first song I test them with.
On an unrelated note, the fact that this video only has 21,000 views is an absolute tragedy. This song slaps so hard, and the world needs to know about it.
Thanks! Makes me glad to hear that. :) My main channel isn’t monetized... long story etc, but Distrokid has a Topic channel for everyone using their services, and there I have 57K plays, so add that to these 21, and we’re getting somewhere. That’s also where the income comes from. 🤪
ua-cam.com/video/R8ufdMN6zX4/v-deo.html
We had that player back in the 1980s,from arcade laserdisc arcade game Astron belt and those players worked.
The disc moved across the laser instead of the laser disc eye.
This is the Video that makes your subscriber number jump... Its been shared in allmost every Laserdisc group on Facebook :O very nice...
Really? Thanks! :D I only wished I could have removed the Topic channel my Distrokid account made in my name. Granted it collects revenue, but it also prevents me from monetizing this channel and I have a slight OCD about having duplicates of everything all around. 🙈 That version of the song has 16K plays that would have been great to have here.
But glad to hear people like it! 😁😎
@@AndersEngerJensen maybe I'm too late, but can't you request your channel to be set as an Official Artist Channel? I think you need to email Distrokid to request this. It would merge the topic channel with this channel.
Why is this so good? Is it too good? I don't know, but along with the Gathering, it's forever part of my youtube music soundtrack.
The feeling I get from this song is how pure a love of technology is and why it should be celebrated. Anders, you make fantastically immersive pieces and inspire me to do the same, thanks!
My love of cassettes and old tech brought me here. Basically everybody documenting old media formats has a copy of this song on a cassette
your music might just become my new obsession, I love this! first listened to this song on the technology connections vid, then lgr used one of your other songs and now I'm binging through all your discography
Thanks! Very glad to hear that. 😊 Most are out on regular streaming channels including UA-cam Topic. This is my main video channel where most songs are out with a proper video. But I have more on BandCamp and some odd stuff on SoundCloud as well, for your information. :)
@@AndersEngerJensen yup, bandcam's mobile autoplay is what interrupted lgr's video and got me listening to your catalog in the first place haha. you make some truly good songs, keep it up!!
My favorite. I hear myself listen to it way too much.
This makes me so happy. It's unbelievably cheesy but very well done, the clips from the original are well used,, and the song itself is pretty much my favourite Anders' song. Nice one. :)
When I was a kid, we had a Discovision player. Many good memories watching The Blues Brothers, Airplane, Animal House etc. with my dad. This music perfectly compliments the for mentioned player. It was like something out of this world at the time.
Bravo AEJ.
I think i've to go and get a D-D-D-DiscoVision...
If MCA used this song in ads for the Discovision I think the format wouldn't have died as quickly as it did lol
This song always makes me happy when I listen to it.
Feels amazing to know that the man in the OG commercial was my Great-Uncle, John D Cannon! I can provide some receipts to this, but its just funny becasue my Mom linked me this because my Great-Uncle is a synth god
Got connected here by Technology Connections...
1:29 just speaks to me on a personal level. Amazing song. I've listened to it literally hundreds of times.
I think we still have that Pioneer player in our loft.
I keep coming back for more on this one. Just lovely. Wish the dude in the instructional video could've seen and heard what was made of his video.
Edit: And I just realized you're Norwegian, Anders. Greetings from a fellow countryman.
I have to thank Spotify "Discover Weekly"-playlist for bringing my attention to your music.
Words can not express as to how much I enjoy this track. This is artistic brilliance.
Another Great Song from Anders! I don't know why I have never listened to this before!
I've been addicted to this theme for weeks now. The composition is a delightful journey every time.
Another i wanna find is the piano version of the nascar on TBS theme. Was used for the starting grid for the 600 in 97
And now we have DVD's... They're Disco Vision Disc's of course. :)
This puts a whole new spin to the term "DiscoVision", where it sounds like "Disco dancing".
I’ve probably listened to this song more than I’ve listened to all other Anders’ songs combined, and thats saying a lot considering how much I’ve listened to Orion By Night alone.
And congratulations, you got me to actually seek out and watch an instructional video for a device I’ll never own (twice).
Thank you for this fantastic composition Anders. I stumbled onto your channel after getting hooked on The 8-Bit Guy's channel. Your video reminded me that in the early 80's I was about 12 and my father came home with a used laser disc unit. It wasn’t a DiscoVision but it did have a corded remote. The cord was too short to reach the couch so it sat on the floor about 1 foot away and we had to bend down to pick it up! We didn't care, the fact that it even had a remote was mind blowing to me and my 2 brothers. Also, a few months earlier dad bought a new 25" colour TV (big at the time) with 13 push buttons to replace the small B&W with rotary channel changer. Between the TV and laserdisc we felt that we'd been fast forwarded to some high tech future! We only had 2 local TV channels so being able to watch movies on laserdisc was nothing short of amazing!
This song is by far my favorite on the album and thanks to technology connections, I want this album. Only thing is I want to start a vinyl collection so I guess this is a great place to start
This is one of the greatest songs I have ever heard, the sound and beat are instantly recognizable, I have never heard anything like it.
This song was a daily listen for many weeks. I still listen regularly and, at this point, I can recite nearly all the instructions well enough to operate a DiscoVision!
I knew your name and sound was really familiar. You did PETSCII robots soundtrack for 8-Bit Guy! Well done!
I've lost track how many hours I've listened to this epic song. By far my favorite!
I was just listening to this album yesterday. Now I can see” the song as well as hear it. Only bummer is that my 80s era amp just died. :-(
How this doesn't have 20 million views I'll never know. This is a jam and a half.
Anders, you are more talented than most musicians who are on the radio nowadays. Never stop
This is so random but 2:57 reminds me the theme of 1995 platformer Clyde's Revenge.
This song has absolutely no right going this hard. Goddamn.
I imagine this product would have been an actual success with this exact remix of this promo back then.
Idea: do a track with audio samples from Technology Connections. Maybe the bloopers and the "sights & sounds" series can provide ?
Hehe, maybe. We’ll see. :)
Fantastic video! (The guy in the video cracks me up!) Well done!
Love the music video and the music.
This was my theme song for the day
Fantastic byte of music.....I need it on a CD
This is the definite highlight of Retro Grooves 3 for me. At the end of Discovision I usually skip back and play it again!
This showed up randomly on spotify and my friends and I can't get enough. This song chugs
ahaha this popped up on youtube's attempt to copy spotify wrapped as my top music vid for 2022! no lies there tbh, it's such a good song
This song speaks to me on a spiritual level. Rock most literally on good sir!
This song has so much power. IMHO one of the best (retro) songs Andres ever made. Followed by Border Love and The Gathering 🙂. And of cause the one with the Cat Keyboard, can't remember the name 🙂. Came across the song yesterday while playing the Retro Grooves Vol. 3 MD which was available a few years ago.
Thank you! That makes me glad to hear! 🥳😊
Oh, you made a clip for it, neat! First time i heard this song (because of The 8-bit Guy) i looked up the original Discovision video. Nice to see you integrated that.
The audio samples of that commercial's announcer bring back memories. Love the music too.
I always loved this song, but I didn't know it had such a great music video
One of my absolute favorites!
Thanks! Mine too! 😎
this has worked its way back into my morning wakeup playlist ♪ ♥
Thanks!
I just found this. Anders this is bloody awesome. Im a laserdisc collector and your music really catches the great era that was home video between 1978 and 1982
Seriously, this is one of your best works, up there with The Gathering, could listen to it endlessly
LOVE THIS! Watched STAR WARS via CED (similar to the DiscoVision format) years before I watched it on VHS.
If I will make it through 2020 it will be because of this song.
made it - it's may 2022 now and still freaking rocking this song!
MCCLOUD!
Seriously though, Anders' music always make me happy. Setting this old retro-tech demo video to music makes it extra special. Tusen takk.
This is great! I really, really like it. The guy in the video I'm pretty sure is J.D. Cannon, best known for being on the TV series McCloud.
ngl I'm sold on this whole DiscoVision thing
