N64 Love (using only Nintendo 64 sounds)

Here's a little track I made from only Nintendo 64 Sound Fonts - in other words, just samples and sounds from the old classic N64 games. It's a challenge from one of my fans on UA-cam,
Allen Husch, who said: "I really want Anders to make a song with a primitive video game SoundFont. Super Mario 64 for example."
So here we are! I've been a sucker for many of the soundtracks on this platform, especially Wave Race 64, Mario Kart 64 and Pilotwings 64, so these are the main SF2 files I used, but I found that some of the others like Blast Corps, Diddy Kong Racing and a few other N64 extractions also were good, so this is a huge mix with a little from everywhere. But no other sounds or samples were used, only effects, EQ, compression and good old MIDI tracking in my DAW.
Think of this as a homage to the good old times and the eminent works by Kazumi Totaka, Koji Kondo and all the others (too many to mention with the fear of forgetting some).
Thank you Nintendo for all the fun hours in front of the console in the 90s. :)

I second this. Especially with F-Zero, Super Mario Kart, Super Mario RPG, Kirby's Dreamland 3, MegaMan X and Star Fox soundfonts!
Would fit the menu of an N64 Classic Edition if one were ever to be made.
So happy you guys share my affection for this old and slightly «obsolete», but still fun and nostalgic console!

I noticed something when I was looking through the soundfonts that you supplied in the download. I noticed that there was my SM64 soundfont and a different SM64 soundfont. Why is that?
Allen Husch I used a little from all of those sound fonts. I didn’t check the differences between those two if there are any, but since I started with the «official» and couldn’t remember which one I used where (over 28 instances of these SF2 files all over) I just included all of them for everyone to play around with. :)
@@AndersEngerJensen The other SM64 soundfont was ripped from SM64 DS, which means the samples are much lower quality. I compared them myself.
The difference between classic and obsolete as stated by the AVGN: obsolete is something you never want to go back to. Classic is something you can Always go back to and enjoy.
This is an absolute home run!
Love how the samples gives the song that distinct N64 feel while still carrying your signature style.

Yup anyone who doesn't have it should buy it, thrift stores are the best place because everything is cheap unlike ebay (but you can't right now because of the coronavirus, unless you live in the uk where people can still go outside)

My nostalgia meter is going crazy, especially seeing that blue, transparent N64 that my friend used to have back in the day...
Many hours of GoldenEye, Mario and Mario Kart 64 have been spent on that console...

Roland probably licensed some of its sound samples for the N64 because the sounds (especially the drum kit) actually reminds me of the old Roland EM-20 keyboard

This song is a tribute to the Nintendo 64 and of its Legendary games - it’s a true anthem and celebration to the console as it still has fans including myself to this day - you just can’t forget a present like the N64 and a few games of course!

The N64 always had the best soundtracks. There's something magical about its relatively primitive sound. Maybe I'm talking through nostalgia glasses, but nothing quite had the same feeling to it.

early 3D era yeah, hard to believe the console was released 1996, its old. the excitement of early 3D games as a kid was amazing. You have DOOM which looks quasi-3D, but its so nostalgic to see the N64's true 3D graphics, despite being polygonal/blocky looking at them now
This reminds me of the SEGA arcade machine soundtracks, such as on _OutRun_ for example.
It's an utterly brilliant composition and could easily be mistaken for an original Japanese game composer's work!

I did not own one as a kid, but played many hours of it at a friend's house, and finally got one of my own a few years ago, and it's since become one of my favorite consoles of all time(default controller not withstanding), so I truly love this track!!

Very nostalgic! Although my gaming nostalgia goes back to the 70s. That being said, I had a lot of fun time with the Commodore 64. Would love to hear something like this done entirely on the SID chip by you Anders.

You know a few days ago I was watching on youtube one of those Nintendo 64 presentation from those days, it was really nice to here the rippingtons music on that... And now you come up with this music in tone with rippingtons bibes... Simply great.
This is crazy beautiful wow. Love the track, and the combination of this upbeat synth style of music with that N64 nostalgia really hit the spot.

That’s because it was based on the three earliest games they had… Mario Kart 64, Mario 64 and Waverace 64. :)

Here's a somewhat serious question: I am currently making a Mario-Kart -style minigame on my Minecraft server, complete with items, and already-working racing plugin, and custom music by me (with originals and covers, all by me), and was wondering...would I be able to add THIS to my collection? I already had a plan for some sort of file-select or credits theme for...credits, and thought this would be awesome! Do I have your permission to use this so long as I give proper credits to you (and Nintendo)?

Most likely not, because I used like 45 instances of the SoundFont plugin to get all the tracks and samples I wanted. Lots of processing and effects too. I believe the N64 has some limitations on how many channels it can play at any given time, which is significantly fewer than those 45. :)
Do the same with SNES and/or Mega Drive....
Hehe... maybe in time. I have so many unfinished projects right now that I’m getting bogged down.
