I am in the same boat i think and I need to try the tear down. Mini motor works great. It's the roller in the large attachment. The part that the roller goes on to, when putting the roller back into place, before being locked in, it will spin...and the piece inside near the spring, rotates... but once the roller is locked into place, and turn on the vacuum, it doesn't spin.
@@mcleanlj1 yes this sounds familiar to the issue I had. If you followed the crucial steps in original video above, cleaned all other parts, isolated mini motor in the cleaning spin head and mini motor works without mini belt, but stops working when the mini belt is joined to the 'enclosed' spinning spindle wheel which directly aligns with and turns the brush head, then the ISSUE is the 'enclosed' spinning wheel NOT spinning freely as intended. I used various methods that I say to use cautiously: I tapped the enclosed wheel at a force on a hard surface without cracking the housing as to attempt to dislodge any collected dust and hoped that no hairs or similar strands made their way inside. I grew impatient and sprayed some lubricant into enclosed wheel and forcefully turned the exterior spindle with fingers only until the enclosed wheel actually started rotating better and better with each counter turn. Now I don't suggest the next step is wise for obvious reasons, but I then used very hot water to rinse the 'enclosed' spindle wheel (clearly had it disconnected from vacuum) and rinsed a few times to remove any stubborn collected gunk, then thoroughly dried with forced blows of air and followed by a steady flow of air using hairdryer. The enclosed wheel spun freely, I then once again used a 'small' amount of lubricant into the cavities surrounding the enclosed spindle, as to make the wheel spin smoothly. When enclosed spindle wheel was reattached to belt and mini motor, the enclosed spindle wheel spun like new 👌🏻. Please make sure you follow all steps in above video prior to attempting this isolation work. Also, always disconnect the battery everytime you take parts off and re-test mini motor. Best of luck to you and all 🤞

@@DIYwithMichaelBorders Yup....cleaned everything. Did a ton of cleaning prior to watching your video to see if I missed anything. I think the drum that actually turns the brush broke in some way. @@DIYwithMichaelBorders Yeah. That's one of the things I like about that company. There's not a whole lot you can't replace on those vacuum's. The wife and I weren't in a position to drop $500-700 on a new Dyson simply because of one part. So, if this new part buys me another few years, then it's money well spent. All noted about lack of electrical contact but my trouble seems a bit different. The roller does not seem to rotate freely but is a bit raspy. Sometimes there is enough torque from the motor to rotate the roller but not always. Any ides, please? Thanking you in advance!
Thanks for watching, have you verified head is clean and clear of all string, hair, debris… There can be dirt particles inside roller wheels as well. A major cleaning is recommended.
I have dismantled and cleaned but things have taken a turn for the worse! For the age of the machine, there was a little dirt; would have expected more. Anyway, reassembled and brush spun but still a bit raspy but has now jammed so solidly that the roller cannot be removed. If I free the end, motor turns so that part seems OK. However it might be, it may be that there is some breakage inside the roller. If all else fails, may have to saw in two and get a new one.
Hello Michael and many thanks! Managed to replace roller following surgery to remove old one. Turns out that the user regularly dunked the assembly in water to clean. Have explained that this is not a submersible item so hopefully the problem will not get worse. The cleaner is some years old and the model number label rather worn. There is a motor onto which the roller sits the drive being via a roll-pin at right angles to the shaft if this helps? At one end, there appears to be a sealed ball-race of some kind but difficult to access so I've given it a spray of light lube which has freed up the bearing sufficienly to enable the roller to spin consitently. I'm inclined to leave as is for now as it's not too obvious how to get to the bearing.
my v10 is different than this. where could I clean the v10? took the roller all apart cleaned it, wasn't really dirty, one roller head I have work but the other main one does not so I dont think its at the main unit has to be with the roller head, getting no power.
Thanks for watching & welcome to the DIY Raptor Club. Any update? Electrical connection points on each end of all parts are crucial. We recommend taking the roller apart from the shaft as well as the shaft apart from the vacuum motor/canister assembly. Next, ensure all electrical connection points are clean and not corroded, rusted, or filled with dust or debris.
@@kayillingworth4315 Thanks for watching, any update? It’s likely that you have electrical contacts elsewhere/upstream that are being interfered with. Have you cleaned all electrical leads and contacts throughout entire vacuum?
@ Thanks for the update. Since the motor is still good, it might be a decent option to purchase a new head. Can’t confirm it however the head may be faulty at this point. What exact Dyson model do you have?

Thanks for posting but not worked for me. Have two heads with brushes on; neither spins, with or without the extension tube in between the motor and the head. Leads me to believe power is not getting from the head to the brush. May invest in a new canister and see if that works but it's a gamble. Otherwise fork out for a new Dyson (and I only replaced the battery a few months ago!)
Thanks for watching & that’s a good route to take at this point. If it’s not too much to ask, we are curious on hearing back from you after your new canister arrives. Hope all is well Mark.
@@DIYwithMichaelBorders So, eventually they suggested it's not the bin/canister, it's the main body and offered to send me one for GBP 37.50. According to their diagnostic tool this will fix it. Should be with me in 5 working days. That price is surprisingly low and a lot better than forking out for an entire new V7. We'll see what happens.

This is one of the worst design products I ever seen, there is nothing remotely intuitive about how to disassemble and reassemble it. God knows what the design team were thinking when they evaluated it for your average joe public to use. There was no dust on my vacuum but the cleaning alcohol worked, possibly in older devices a film of grease builds up that you cannot see. After changing the rear filter for new adapter filter, I noticed that none of the brushes were working and I was on the point of binning it until I saw your fix. Well done thanks a many.
@@MenRule-d3e Thanks for watching and sharing your experience, and we are truly honored that are video was helpful. No need to spend money on a brand new vacuum when you can make it a DIY project and bring your current vacuum up to speed. 😁👍🧰
All my connections on my Dyson V8 are very clean but no electricity is going down the wand (pipe) to the spinning brush (motor head). I switched the parts out with another V8 (various combinations) and the brush spins. The problem seems to be no electricity coming from the contacts on the main body to the canister which in turn feeds the wand. The motor runs the cyclone but there's no electricity going to the spinning brush.
Thanks for watching & sharing your experience. You will want to inspect as much of the connection points as possible to ensure they are perfectly clean & clear of dust, lint, rust, corrosion... You may be faced with having to purchase a new part which can be pretty friendly by doing a quick Internet search. Please keep us posted. 😎👍🔧🔩
@@stephaniegreen4517 I have sort of given up for the time being. But, I think it might need a new canister (the clear part that collects the dust). From what I gather there is a wire in the top of the canister that carries the electrical current from the motorhead main body to the pipe leading to the brush. I have not confirmed this.
@@DIYwithMichaelBorders I have the same issue with a V8 SV10. I believe it is my motorhead not the canister and I have a second same machine and when interchanging parts that is what is consistently failing. I wonder if the motorhead can be fixed?

Thanks for the follow up, submerging unit in water is not a good idea. 😲
Sounds like you’re back up and running, that’s great news.
Thank you!
You are welcome, thank YOU!! 😁
Thank you! Sorted it out!
my v10 is different than this. where could I clean the v10? took the roller all apart cleaned it, wasn't really dirty, one roller head I have work but the other main one does not
so I dont think its at the main unit has to be with the roller head, getting no power.
My roller head isn't turning?

Thanks for watching. Performing the cleaning process shown in this video will hopefully help. 👍☕️
The bearing in the drive gear at the belt motor head is jammed but I can’t get it apart
Still didn’t work for us
@@kayillingworth4315
Thanks for watching, any update? It’s likely that you have electrical contacts elsewhere/upstream that are being interfered with.
Have you cleaned all electrical leads and contacts throughout entire vacuum?
We have cleaned the ones we can get too. It's too bad because the motor I good.

Thanks for the update. Since the motor is still good, it might be a decent option to purchase a new head. Can’t confirm it however the head may be faulty at this point.
What exact Dyson model do you have?
@@kayillingworth4315
We have attached a few head options below.
V7: amzn.to/4hAa8Lh
V8: amzn.to/3BZz13T
Aftermarket V10, V11, V15: amzn.to/4gVH8gW

the thing is mine is brand new and it clean but it won’t spin on the ground but upside down it does😭
Thanks for watching, a brand new vacuum shouldn’t be giving you these problems. Is vacuum covered under warranty?
@@DIYwithMichaelBorders yes it is im confused too

Are you able to return it for a new one?
Thanks for posting but not worked for me. Have two heads with brushes on; neither spins, with or without the extension tube in between the motor and the head. Leads me to believe power is not getting from the head to the brush. May invest in a new canister and see if that works but it's a gamble. Otherwise fork out for a new Dyson (and I only replaced the battery a few months ago!)
Thanks for watching & that’s a good route to take at this point. If it’s not too much to ask, we are curious on hearing back from you after your new canister arrives.
Hope all is well Mark.
@@DIYwithMichaelBorders I'll let you know. At the moment on a chat with Dyson to see what else they might suggest.

Thanks for watching and sharing your experience, and we are truly honored that are video was helpful.
No need to spend money on a brand new vacuum when you can make it a DIY project and bring your current vacuum up to speed.

Hi Brian, I have the exact same issue with my v8. Did you ever manage to find the problem and fix it?
@@stephaniegreen4517 I have sort of given up for the time being. But, I think it might need a new canister (the clear part that collects the dust).
From what I gather there is a wire in the top of the canister that carries the electrical current from the motorhead main body to the pipe leading to the brush.
I have not confirmed this.
@@DIYwithMichaelBorders I have the same issue with a V8 SV10. I believe it is my motorhead not the canister and I have a second same machine and when interchanging parts that is what is consistently failing. I wonder if the motorhead can be fixed?
@@andreag.pollack635
Thanks for watching, have you also thoroughly cleaned all electrical connections?
Sounds like Dyson has a defect in manufacturing and need to address this.
