REMINDER: This is not a definitive list of the best video games ever made but rather our personal picks for titles we reckon you NEED to play, and as such is in *no particular order*. I restarted Skyrim on Christmas day on my new PS5 after my first playthrough 8 years prior and it just blows me away how good that game is. It has aged amazingly and I think it definitely deserves to be number one on this list!
@Jacob B I mean, I'm not gonna die on this hill or anything, and I agree that there are better games than Skyrim on this list. Skyrim isn't my favourite game ever by a long shot, but as a game that I think got a lot of new people to look at the genre of fantasy RPG and made it accessible, I think Skyrim deserves it's place as one of the top games everyone should play at least once
I personally believe that most of these games aged so so well. Also Falcom has a under appreciated masterpiece, that claps so many JRPG’s back in the day. Has it aged like a fine wine? Ys, it really has.
Whatever you think of Capcom, you can't deny that they put a lot of love and care into all their Remakes of the RE games. And RE in general (outside of like a small period where they were clearly pretty lost on what they wanted RE to be)
Great list! Although here's a few I'd add: Earthbound/Mother 2: Probably my own favorite game, but objectively a very influential JRPG that was WAY ahead of its time. Very unique playstyle that both mocks and celebrates RPG tropes. As funny as it is sad and heartwarming. Banjo-Kazooie: While Mario 64 established the 3D platformer as a genre, Banjo-Kazooie did the same with the 90s collectathon genre that many have replicated since. Fun, funny, and arguably Rare's magnum opus. Street Fighter 2: I'm surprised that not a single Street Fighter made the list! It's the first game I think about when I think "fighting game." And this one took the elements of the first game and greatly improved on them to make one of the most popular games to play competitively of all time.
My top 3 in no specific order that left a big impact on me at least: San Andreas opened the scope for me of how big video games could be as I was used to more linear games with stricter rules. As soon as I got it, I would easily spend days in its world just goofing around and always finding things to do, sometimes it really felt like I could do anything in it. So much to explore and interact with, there was nothing else quite like it and those that tried, failed to replicate its magic. I don't think a video game will positively surprise me so much again and get me lost in its world like this one has. Silent Hill 2. I had low expectations due to the bad voice acting but I would soon find out it's all part of the plan and was immersed fairly quickly. This was also during a time where I would normally skip cutscenes because I was a big gameplay guy however, I was so intrigued here I didn't skip the cutscenes this time. The tense, heavy atmosphere that would often turn depressive, the way the characters were acting, the ballsy imagery displayed, the monsters, all connected through a narrative that is laid out in such a brilliant way that I don't think it will ever be topped. The game is also constantly messing with you psychologically, especially in the Prison level/area and I lowkey enjoy that. Burnout 3 was a game I got for my birthday and just like San Andreas, I could quickly tell it was special. The tight controls, the risk reward design, awesome sense of speed, the crash mode, taking down rivals through the takedown mechanic, the fitting music, the memorable race tracks being all interconnected between continents, it was almost flawless and it holds up well. Whenever I go back to just play a little bit, I end up playing for way longer than I intended because this game incredibly good at sucking you in if you enjoy arcadey racers.
Most list always forget WoW. I’m glad you included it. I stopped after the 3rd DLC, but this game was so amazing and changed most people’s lives. Will always be grateful for the experience
WoW is the most amazing game I have ever played. It is so good, I literally can't play it or else I would miss out in every other aspect of my life. Kids can feck off, I wouldn't talk to my wife, I would gain weight, lose any and all control of my life, and sit there for 18-20 hours a day playing...
Was so pleased to see telltale’s walking dead on the list. If anyone has enjoyed that and wants another game to follow it up, I’d recommend the Wolf Among Us in a heartbeat, especially as telltale made that the first title that they announced after receiving new funding to get a sequel.
Another groundbreaking PC title that came out in the mid 90's was the Tomb Raider franchise. Which revolutionized the puzzle - adventure genre. The Original Tomb Raider won various awards, and since then Lara has become a gaming icon worldwide. Tombraider 2 is a must play in my opinion.
I like that this list offers a variety of established classics, indie hits, and games like Deadly Premonition that are completely out of left field to fully display what this medium has to offer.
@@wcskeleton1388 well there's Civilisation, Starcraft and Tetris so we can thank our lucky stars that these genres haven't been completely overlooked. And maybe (just maybe) Mario Cart is there as a nod to racing/driving games, although it's not exactly a serious example, is it? But let's be real... This list is very heavy on certain genres and exceedingly light on others, if they get touched at all. Sports sims are a thing for example. Not my thing but I would still expect to see a couple at least. I'm not saying this list is all rubbish. A lot of it I would absolutely agree with. But I definitely think these guys would benefit from broadening their horizons if they want to appeal to a broader audience beyond the action/adventure/RPG crowd. I know us Xcom players are probably freaks of nature but we do exist and we don't just want to hear about Bioshock (twice) and Halo (I lost count).
@@marcosm1223 I feel the same. Most of these games are long with large open worlds & stories. As someone who didn't grow up with most of these games as they came out (nintendo only) Basically anything that reminds me of World of warcraft gameplay these days... makes me feel sleepy MMO-rpgs have ruined other games for me to enjoy - it really sucks It's a shame cuz' I would really like to give most of these games a shot, but now I'm 30 and I can't be bothered wasting time doing research which feels like homework to play a game. I tried playing Zelda: Breath of the wild & Link's awakening (never played zelda games) I gave both games 2hrs and felt like I had to watch youtube to figure out what to do because I was so lost on what to do and kept dying. At that point I get burnt out if I gotta research constantly it feels like homework. I need games like SSX 3, Tricky, Tony Hawk pro skater 3, Satisfactory, Simcity, Sims 4, Age of Empires 2,3, & 4, railway empires 2, Civilization 5 & 6, Starcraft 2, Palworld, Cyberpunk 2077, Terraria, Zuma deluxe, Rust, mario party, mario kart, forza horizon 4, hotwheels unleashed... etc Basically anything I can pick up and put down and not feel overwhelmed by and can comeback to to enjoy again. Basically most games with established franchises that I didn't get to grow up with as a kid. Makes it feel exhausting just thinking about it as I would want to experience it all, but also being into J-rpgs like Octopath Traveler... really drains a lot of time.
I honestly haven't played most of these games and I'm 30. When I was kid I mainly grew up with 30 games total from age 6 -14. Mainly n64, gamecube, gameboy advance, & the wii. I kind of grew into this habit of replaying them so much that because most of the games are essentially never-ending or if they did have a ending they didn't take long to beat. SSx 3, ssx tricky, tony hawk 3, underground 1+2, mario party 4, harry potter 1-7, super smash melee, animal crossing, quidditch world cup, guitar hero 3, wii sports, scooby doo night of 100 frights, rugrats royal ransom, pokemon gen 1-3, dragon quest monsters 1+2 Then I started playing world of warcraft in 2008 and other mmo's in early 2010's. I quit those on and off until 2020 2019-2022 I sold off my childhood games as I no longer wanted to revisit those titles anymore. Now days I've been buying most of these games I missed out on, but lack the energy to play through them is real especially the long established franchises like Zelda, Assasin's creed, Resident evil, Mario platformers, Metroid, Pikmin, Bayonetta, Final fantasy, far cry, halo, dmc, gta.. etc...list goes on... Basically any game that reminds me mmorpg mechanics ruins most games for me. All i play these days is simcity 2013, age of empires 2 &4, palworld, satisfactory, & railway empires 2. It sucks because I really enjoy j-rpgs too.
The only reason I clicked on this video was to see if Splinter Cell was mentioned. Chaos Theory is easily my favourite game ever. Although I played all the other Splinter Cell releases A LOT, Chaos Theory is the one I always come back to. Eventhough this game is almost 20 years old!
If I may make a few totally unsolicited suggestions, I would personally toss Roller Coaster Tycoon 2 (PC via Steam, GOG and probably others), Duke Nukem 3D (All platforms via remaster), and Diablo II (All platforms via remaster) in the ring. Also, I checked out Unpacking because of this list and had a great time. I plan on visiting more of the game I haven't played- I counted 56 of them!
A couple of games to add: Ōkami: A beautiful game with a great story and well designed Zelda-inspired gameplay. A Hat in Time: A really fun 3D platformer absolutely oozing with charm. Also, special mention goes to Ori and the Blind Forest. While you included its sequel, which inproves upon it in many ways, I still think the first is the better overall work of art.
Okami is superb..pretty long and immersive experience as a original PS2 game..nice story , Humor , Fun Combat , And unique artstyle..never seen such a unique game
Someday I want a huge council to come together and make a definitive list of the "best" and most iconic video games of all time. Games that defined a genre, games that defined the industry, games that defined a generation, games that most gamers can agree deserve a spot on the list.
Thanks for doing this, and my recommendations are: Dark Cloud: Originally from PS2 (It's on PS4 alongside it's sequel). It is a dungeon crawler, town builder game where you have to save everyone, grow your team, and improve your weapons. A Hat in Time: A modern 3D platformer that is full of fun and joy that is available on most current platforms. Mario & Rabbids - Kingdom Battle: A enjoyable, comical, strategy shooter game. It may get mixed response due to the Rabbids themselves, but it works overall. Plus the music is bumping. Bloodstained: RItual of the Night: A spiritual successor to 2D Castlevania games. Full of quirky characters, a large castle, and all kinds of gear you can use to fight the monsters and spirits. Night in the Woods: A modern tale set in Possum Springs of anthropomorphic people where reality, dreams, and music blend to create a strange and relatable story. Resident Evil 1 Remake: A staple in the horror genre that can scare you and even make you feel awesome when you get used to what's going on.
Great to see Sonic 2 on the list. 20 years ago, you could always be sure that either Sonic 2 or 3(and Knuckles) would show up on lists like these, but over the past decades a notion has popped up that "Sonic was never great to begin with". The crappy modern Sonic games have tainted the classics games so much that a lot of people (especially younger people) simply cannot comprehend that the Sonic series was ever in a state where most of its games were masterpieces. But back in the day, Sonic was just as critically acclaimed as the likes of Mario, Zelda and Metroid.
Killer list! Some more titles that either made me a gamer, or pulled me back in after a 20 yr vacancy: -Diablo (1,2,or 3) -Riven, or Myst 3 -Hexen -Earthworm Jim (1&2) -Mr. Driller -Cuphead -Don’t Starve -Shadows of Mordor -Tom Clancy’s Wildlands -Dying Light -Rayman Legends -Struggling (play with a friend!!!) -Little Nightmares -Bloodborne -Freedom Finger -Contra (1,3 & 4) -Fury Unleashed -Binding of Isaac -Terrarria -Destiny 2 -Owlboy -Velocity 2x -Greak -Grime -Shovel Knight -The Sexy Brutale -Gris -Bastion -The Bridge -CTR Nitro rerelease -Need For Speed Hot Pursuit -Guacamele -Candle -Unravel -Toki -Sine Mora Ex -Feudal Alloy -Deadpool -Doom 3 -Left4Dead/Back4Blood -Donkey Kong Country (all of them lol) -Have a Nice Death -Brutal Legend -Alien Hominid -Crash Bandicoot Trilogy (&4) -Sonic Mega Collection Plus -Super Mario Land 2&3 -Wario Land Shake It -Super Mario 3D Land/World -Nobody Saves the World -Salt & Sanctuary -Tricky Towers -Cloning Clyde (Pretty much impossible to find now, but Resident Evil Outbreak was AMAZING) Those plus a pile from your 101 list made me REALLY get back into gaming, especially during the pandemic. (Apparently I need to do more horseback riding in open worlds though ;) )
One game that absolutely needs to be on this kind of list is Before Your Eyes. I wouldn’t call it one of my favourite games, but it’s definitely something special. Very unique controls (blinking using your webcam), and one of the best stories I’ve ever seen in a game. It’s one of the only times that I can remember a game making me cry. The tears got so bad that the game thought I was blinking when I wasn’t. Incredible game that everyone needs to experience once.
if I have to say 5: -Outer Wilds -Return of the Obra Dinn -Batman Arkham Trilogy -Red Dead Redemption -Hitman 3 (with all the Hitman 1/2 content as DLC)
Oh man, that was a great trip down gaming memory lane, and a reminder of a few from my long term list. What a shame you made the list before the Goldeneye remaster...great to see it get a shout out still. Also, I'm amazed how many older (and not so old) titles have been remastered. Although speaking of which...now I realise you didn't include the game I've sunk more time into than any over the last two years...Diablo 2 Resurrected. Very surprising!
Very broad selection. Sad to see Super Metroid wasn’t on the list but the Metroid fan in me is still happy to see Prime on here! If I had one game i feel should have probabpy been slapped on here over something else it would probably have to be Mario Odyssey (mario 64 is great as well though) 😊
@@highmax21xx my friend is one if the biggest Mario fans and he wasn’t a big fan of Odyssey. I only played it for like 2 seconds and it lacked that “Mario” feel.
It's near impossible to do a ranking list of 100 different games and to justify their rankings. I'm glad they didn't since you can't really rank Dark Souls together with The Sims or pretty much any game in this list.
@@Kevin-iy2rq mm there's way too much player bias to make a completely impartial ranking of a "top 100 games" of all time. Plus it's changing all the time. Every year more and more great games are released (take this year with Elden Ring, Horizon, Sifu and more). And usually just comes down to player preference. Smart moves by Triple Jump I think
@@CrazeeAdam Yea + the new games often get ranked high like for example: FF7: remake could be in a top 100 list now but who says it will still be in the top 100 after 10 years? Or it's just nostalgia making these games better than they actually were.
I commented on this before I watched this just because they ate triple jump and they deserve it but you guys have no idea how next level your videos are. Genuinely changed my life the last couple of years, cheers troops
I think Rayman legends is an absolutely great platformer. It is possibly the greatest part in the franchise and I recommend it to anyone who likes platforming games even just a little bit.
You had me at Hollow Knight, I just cannot get over how freakishly good this game is in a sea of mid offerings, it deserves every accolade it's gotten and if none it's criminally underrated. Bring on Hollow Knight 2 already.
Great List! I played 95 games on 101 and I want to add some suggests: - Baldur' s Gate 1/2 available with remastered/collection - Divinity Original Sin 1/2 - Final Fantasy Tactics - Doki Doki Literature Club
Feels good at the age of 25, I’ve played and touched and FINISHED so many phenomenal games. Hopefully I can spend the next 25 getting to some of the games stated here.
Often in your ranked lists you try to remain objective, but it's nice to see just occasionally a subjective list to show what you guys (or girls) are all about. Keep it up 🙂
lol The girl was reading from a script. I love this channel and all of the team, but don't be fooled. You should be able to pick up on when a person is reading something another person wrote for them. Pay more attention man. How long have you been following them? You really think this chick played through the OG Devil May Cry games? "Think you've got what it takes to ... ... the something of hell?" I heard Ben saying that. I am not sure if Ben writes himself into this but I believe he does. So I think Ben wrote her script too. Keep listenin and eventually you'll get to Civ 4. Bruh.
@@foreignuser_I was referring to the writing, not just the presenter. A lot of ranked lists on this channel are somewhat objectively *x ranked from worst to best*, whereas this is clearly a more personal take. But go off dude
I was shocked to see you didn't put Hitman as #47 but then again didn't really care. But the shock I had when you put Agent 47 at #46... Missed opportunity lol
Resident Evil 2002 is secretly my favorite game of all time and I love how you put it at 91 considering I was born in 91. I love numerology. Also just like how GTA4 came out on my birthday april 29th and just like Niko I too am a Eastern European who came to New York.
Solid list, as I've played and completed a good handful. So many games to choose. If you had to expand, I would add: Kingdom Hearts 1 or 2, Vanillaware games like Odins Sphere or Dragon's Crown, Danganronpa 1 & 2, and definitely one of the Nihom Falcom games like Ys 8 or Trails/Kiseki.
True- The SNES had a ton of games that everyone needs to play: A Link to the Past, Super Metroid, Legend of the Seven Stars, Chrono Trigger, Donkey Kong Country, Mega Man X, Earthbound, Actraiser, Super Punch-out, Final Fantasy III, Children of Mana, etc.
I’ve played Fallout 4 Skyrim Minecraft Bioshock Last of us Last of us part 2 GTA 4 GTA v Fallout 3 Fallout:new Vegas RoboCop:rogue city Morrowind Oblivion Metal gear solid Quake 2 Quake Doom Doom 2 Doom 64 Dark souls 3 Demons souls BloodBorne Super Mario sunshine and more
Can’t believe banjo kazooie wasn’t in this. Shame shame shame. That’s a complete work of art and you can still play it on Xbox360 Xbox one Xbox series X&S
101 games and not even a mention of TR? That game was incredibly groundbreaking and Lara Croft’s character hugely iconic in gaming. Certainly meets the criteria you seem to have followed. It’s sad to see TR get so overlooked.
The entire time I was watching I was keeping track of how many of the games on the list I have played, and I was so close to the majority with having played 50/101
Had 82/101, from the 29 I missed I only really neglected several of the ones I would care to play, one being Shadow of the Colossus unfortunately; hopefully Sony lets it on PC as I don't want a PS5 and with HZD, God of War, Spider-man, and Persona 5 being on PC the only thing keeping it from being sold is Bloodborne.
Honestly I'm kinda surprised Night in The Woods isn't on here, imo it's a great game in the sense of what it lacks in gameplay and mechanics it makes up in stellar realistic characters. We all know someone like Gregg, an anarchistic fun loving guy with some deep seated self-esteem issues. We all know someone like Bea, an intelligent person who you believe would go to college only to be held back by life issues working a limbo job. The game just has characters and issues that everyone can relate to, especially if you live in a small town seeing businesses that were once thriving boarding up their windows. It is an amazing, simple, fun to play, and easy to look at game (well more of an experience in my eyes) that I believe everyone should give a chance. Not to mention the soundtrack is a banger. If you have the time, look up Rainy Day by Alec Holowka or even just the title music. Plus the game is only 20 dollars so you're not gonna be breaking the bank.
the thing about night in the woods is it's a very targeted genre. a lot of people view that type of game as just a walking simulator. it would really depend on if you're caring about the story or not.
Another Underrated Xbox game is Subnautica: an underwater builder/surviver game. You are the lone survivor of a downed spaceship on a mostly aquatic alien world. You go deep into the ocean to find still deeper chasms, leading to even deeper cave systems that go down further still and unlock terrors on a level much more real than most horror games.. Armed with only dystopian nerfed defensive weapons you encounter massive leviathan’s that will swallow you whole if you let them, and probably more terrifying still; underwater sorcery can send you teleporting randomly to another location.. ANYWHERE on the map! The inconvenience makes the fear even worse 😆 Air supply, battery power, food and water and health are all constant consideration, and you can play hardcore: one life! I’ve had the game for years now and I still love it so much, and it’s a unique experience I would recommend anyone check out
While I do appreciate the addition of Batman Arkham Asylum on this list, I would say as someone who's played all the games on Hard and NG+ multiple times over the years (I've always been a lifelong fan of Batman anyways lol) that Asylum's direct sequel Batman Arkham City is the better game is almost every way! If Arkham Asylum is Nolan's Batman Begins then Arkham City is The Dark Knight of video games! I am not mincing words here. Arkham Asylum is a great game but it is often recommend as the starting point to get people into the Batman Arkham games in general. The game is self is simplistic in being a more classic Batman story with accessible and fun gameplay, but Arkham City takes all of that and dials everything up to 11! The story is darker and more complex, the combat is expanded upon and more varied (assuming you're actually using the new gadgets and techniques in freeflow combat rather than sticking to the one button strike and other button counter Asylum ingrains in you to use) and they make the game truly open world with the Arkham City itself unlike the separate but small open areas Asylum gives you. I often do tell people to that if they are only going to play one game in the Batman Arkham series games then play Arkham City instead. It does help if you have played Asylum first but over the years I've felt it's not always necessary. Arkham City is the Uncharted 2, God of War 2, Mass Effect 2 and Borderlands 2 of the Batman Arkham series! With better story, map/level design, bosses, and expanded combat/stealth that compliments each other so well I will probably never stop praising the work and passion that Rocksteady managed to put in this game. It you really haven't played Arkham City yet and only stopped at Arkham Asylum I would say you have NOT fully experienced what these Batman Arkham games have to offer!
I also preferred Asylum (with the exception of the ending). Although a portion of that may be that maybe due to the fact that the two times that I played through City the game glitched out and prevented me from getting 100% completion (and two different glitches as well). Additionally I greatly preferred the Asylum Riddler trophies and some of City's content just seemed like busywork. But the two are so close in my personal rankings and there are many things that City does better as well, but if I had to recommend just one I'd probably go with Asylum as well. But seriously just play them both.
Very good, I was looking for such a video. No fast forward, with short comments on the listed games. I am surprised that there are many titles that I have not yet played.
I was very surprised that there was no Chrono trigger, usually it’s featured prominently in these type of lists, but maybe because it’s hard to get a hold of?
Thanks for another supermassive list of video games, I always look forward to these videos the most and this was one of the best I think. That being said: Superliminal - a spectacle of a puzzle adventure that'll resonate well with anyone that enjoyed Portal. Its narration is charming and tells a sweet message. OMORI - an emotional roller coaster of an RPG that stands as an excellent serving of innovation and charm. Not for the faint hearted though Amnesia: The Dark Descent - one of the best horror experiences of all time and still holds up as terrifying while telling a very intriguing story through notes scattered throughout the game DDLC - like Deadly Premonition, this one's not for everyone, but the people that like Doki Doki Literature Club REALLY like it (myself included), so it's worth finding out if you'll be one of its fans Banjo-Kazooie - I can't believe how well B+K holds up as a 3D platformer today, from the music to the level design and pacing. It's readily available on Xbox and Switch as well. I played it for the first time this year and adored it.
Love hearing Ashton on these longer lists! Can't until the ranked lists feature all three of you. Was set to watch this in parts, but ending up watching all 2+ hours in one sitting. Great list. As someone who has been out of console gaming for a few years now, this is a good list of recommendations for me to get started with.
I really like this list however. You could have included games from Ps2, Xbox, Ps3, Wii and Xbox 360 even though they are older. Because they are still for the most part very cheap to get 😀 And in some cases even the more expensive ones are cheaper than the really new ones.
agreed. I think anything older than those can be quite hard to get and quite expensive too. Thankfully many of those games on those consoles have been remastered or you can get them through online stores etc. so a lot of them are still included here. But yeah...really you can find a lot of those games and consoles pretty easily still even today. 90s stuff a little harder.
6:46: "Bioware scrapped weapon overheating in favor of ammo [as a quality-of-life improvement in Mass Effect 2]" I think you're quite possibly the first reviewer ever to say that in the history of ever. The thermal clip system is almost universally hated and derided by fans as a _huge_ step backwards in usability and gameplay quality, one of the most notable exceptions in a game that was generally an improvement over its predecessor.
It needs a proper remake - I love that game so much and would love to be able to convince people to play it (which might be more successful with modern graphics)
When you presented number 1 and I did not see Skyrim at all in the video, I was scrolling like crazy in the comments about to give you a piece of my mind, haha! Good job guys, you really got me there!
Very good list. Didn't know 3 games in it : the unpacking one, the rolling sticky ball and the creepy strange controlled horror one. Played around 80% of the list already. I would have put Monster Hunter World in there somewhere :p
I haven't finished the video yet but it gives me no end of joy to see Life is Strange on the list in the description. That series as a whole has given me so many emotional moments, they'll always stick with me. The dialogue can be cheesy (who even says "hella" these days?) but it'll rip your heart out every time.
Christmas in July when Triple Jump gifts us with an amazing video like this. Thanks Peter, Ben and the surprising but always welcome appearance of Ashton. And the rest of the Triple Jump team. 2 and a half hours of Triple Jump is still too short 😆
Great list but I would add these games I grew up playing. Bully Assassins creed Red dead redemption kingdom hearts Mass effect Yugioh deulist of the Rose's star wars return of the jedi mortal kombat 9 Max Payne GTA4 super ghouls n ghost F-ZERO The wolf among us The legend of zelda majoras mask
I also recommend The Talos Principle, The witness, Gorogoa, Dishonored 1 and 2, Prey, Max Payne 3, Commandos 2, Days gone, Far cry 4, Forza Horizon 4, Mirrors edge.
I just found this channel and after watching not even halfway through this video I had to subscribe! You make such entertaining content but with solid facts about the games you are describing. Keep up the good work!
i am very pleased with the inclusion of borderlands 2. It is my favorite videogame of all time with it’s many play styles, fun characters, vast landscapes, amazing story, it has something for everyone. I have put hundreds of hours into this game already and there will be a lot more hours that will be added to that total
Huge props for including TLOU2. I know it's incredibly divisive, but it is undeniably one of the most ambitious titles ever made, and in my opinion it and its predecessor are the two best games of all time.
The problem with mainstream lists like this is that it’s full of third person and first person games. Where are the strategy games like Age of Empires 2? Roller Coaster Tyccon? Games like Master of Orion 2? Deep cuts. You can get the same results by copying any other mainstream “Top 100” list.
@@spooky4892 roller coaster tycoon, age of empires niche? Wow tell me you know nothing about game history without telling me you know nothing about game history.
Deadly Premonition 1 is a MUST PLAY. This was so awsome with that story and Charakters. Never saw a game like this and play since 1988. And even today its one of its kind. To bad no one want to play, chause it doesnt look this good
It has fallout 3 on there, they've clearly tried to not put multiple for the same franchise in the list. I believe they made the right choice picking fallout 3
The ones that really struck me are Shadow of the Colossus, Half Life 2, and Journey. I checked to make sure all three were on this list, because those three games were burned into my psyche when playing them. They were so much more than the sum of their parts.
No alien isolation or Diablo 2 or Zelda a link to the past u lost my vote. How could u put wind waker over a link to the past omg, yeah it was good but not as good. i know your putting a list of easily available games but fuc* that, your missing the best of the best and most games you can still easily play. other great games u missed... golden axe, command and conquer, golden eye, age of empires, mortal combat, street fighter, tie fighter, star wars knights of the old republic, simcity 2000, tony hawks 2, monkey island 1 & 2, day of the tentacle, another world, lemmings, flash back, star fox, worms, duke nukem 3D, halve life 1, streets of rage, road rash, double dragon, load runner, donkey kong, pilot wings, dungeon keeper, theme hospital, guitar hero 3, age of wonders, hexen, heritic, desert strike, R-type dune arr man this list goes on and on.
REMINDER: This is not a definitive list of the best video games ever made but rather our personal picks for titles we reckon you NEED to play, and as such is in *no particular order*. These games have been selected with availability in mind, so a title won't make the cut if you can't easily get your hands on it today! OH, and Marvel's Spider-Man is coming to PC on August 12th & Persona 5 Royal is coming to Xbox Series/Nintendo Switch on October 21st (recent announcements).
🎮With that said, how many of them have you played, and what would make your personal list? 🎮
@@mschmalfeldt it's literally on the list

Under rated comment!! This video is perfect for passing the time listening while doing stuff .
I restarted Skyrim on Christmas day on my new PS5 after my first playthrough 8 years prior and it just blows me away how good that game is. It has aged amazingly and I think it definitely deserves to be number one on this list!
Woah you're pretty 😍
@@therealdirtydan2940 woah youre weird
Skyrim is one that never leaves your head until you replay it. And then again. And then again)
@@platypuspigeon3103 😍
I personally believe that most of these games aged so so well. Also Falcom has a under appreciated masterpiece, that claps so many JRPG’s back in the day. Has it aged like a fine wine? Ys, it really has.
20 years later, the Resident Evil remake still looks stunning. It was definitely a game ahead of its time.
Whatever you think of Capcom, you can't deny that they put a lot of love and care into all their Remakes of the RE games. And RE in general (outside of like a small period where they were clearly pretty lost on what they wanted RE to be)
@@CrazeeAdam Except for RE3 Remake
@@have_a_good_day420 still a really good game though.
Weird to call a remake of an old game "ahead of its time", but I wouldn't argue that it doesn't totally hold up even today.
@@have_a_good_day420 re3 remake is still better than every other horror game between re2 remake and re8 soooo
Great list! Although here's a few I'd add:
Earthbound/Mother 2: Probably my own favorite game, but objectively a very influential JRPG that was WAY ahead of its time.
Speaking of rpgs that were ahead of their time you should try SMT

My top 3 in no specific order that left a big impact on me at least:
San Andreas opened the scope for me of how big video games could be as I was used to more linear games with stricter rules.

YeSSir TWD IS and absolute masterpiece
IS THAT A MOTHERFREAKING AMONG US REFERENCE!?"?!?!?
Another groundbreaking PC title that came out in the mid 90's was the Tomb Raider franchise. Which revolutionized the puzzle - adventure genre. The Original Tomb Raider won various awards, and since then Lara has become a gaming icon worldwide. Tombraider 2 is a must play in my opinion.
I would really appreciate a TR2 remake :D
Started on Saturn man...
I like that this list offers a variety of established classics, indie hits, and games like Deadly Premonition that are completely out of left field to fully display what this medium has to offer.
Idk most of the games on this list are kinda boring
@@MemeLordCthulhu I'm curious if you consider most of the games on this very varied list boring, what games do you not find boring?
@@marcosm1223 couldnt say since there is like one of every genre of game on this list 💀
As someone who didn't grow up with most of these games as they came out (nintendo only)
Basically anything that reminds me of World of warcraft gameplay these days... makes me feel sleepy
MMO-rpgs have ruined other games for me to enjoy - it really sucks
It's a shame cuz' I would really like to give most of these games a shot, but now I'm 30 and I can't be bothered wasting time doing research which feels like homework to play a game.
I tried playing Zelda: Breath of the wild & Link's awakening (never played zelda games)
I gave both games 2hrs and felt like I had to watch youtube to figure out what to do because I was so lost on what to do and kept dying.
At that point I get burnt out if I gotta research constantly it feels like homework.
I need games like
SSX 3, Tricky, Tony Hawk pro skater 3, Satisfactory, Simcity, Sims 4, Age of Empires 2,3, & 4, railway empires 2, Civilization 5 & 6, Starcraft 2, Palworld, Cyberpunk 2077, Terraria, Zuma deluxe, Rust, mario party, mario kart, forza horizon 4, hotwheels unleashed... etc
Basically anything I can pick up and put down and not feel overwhelmed by and can comeback to to enjoy again.
Basically most games with established franchises that I didn't get to grow up with as a kid. Makes it feel exhausting just thinking about it as I would want to experience it all, but also being into J-rpgs like Octopath Traveler... really drains a lot of time.
Good list but surprised not to see a Silent Hill game, Tomb Raider game and Donkey Kong game on here
I know I shouldn't be suprised being a 30 year gamer. But I can't believe I've played at least 101 games already. Thanks for this list guys!
SSx 3, ssx tricky, tony hawk 3, underground 1+2, mario party 4, harry potter 1-7, super smash melee, animal crossing, quidditch world cup, guitar hero 3, wii sports, scooby doo night of 100 frights, rugrats royal ransom, pokemon gen 1-3, dragon quest monsters 1+2
Then I started playing world of warcraft in 2008 and other mmo's in early 2010's.
I quit those on and off until 2020
2019-2022 I sold off my childhood games as I no longer wanted to revisit those titles anymore.
Now days
I've been buying most of these games I missed out on, but lack the energy to play through them is real especially the long established franchises like Zelda, Assasin's creed, Resident evil, Mario platformers, Metroid, Pikmin, Bayonetta, Final fantasy, far cry, halo, dmc, gta.. etc...list goes on...
Basically any game that reminds me mmorpg mechanics ruins most games for me.
All i play these days is simcity 2013, age of empires 2 &4, palworld, satisfactory, & railway empires 2.
It sucks because I really enjoy j-rpgs too.
I am in shock that Splinter Cell is not on this list.
Chaos Theory is arguably the greatest stealth game ever made.
Probably forgot about it can't really blame them as the series has been dead for years such a shame tho
Saddened to see I had to scroll this far to find a mention of good old Sam Fisher…
The only reason I clicked on this video was to see if Splinter Cell was mentioned. Chaos Theory is easily my favourite game ever. Although I played all the other Splinter Cell releases A LOT, Chaos Theory is the one I always come back to. Eventhough this game is almost 20 years old!
Did you guys hear the opening remarks? If you can't play your game on modern hardware, then it won't be included on this list
@@JB-wv8pb You can though? All splinter cell games, even the oldest one, can be easily downloaded and played on any modern computer.
Street Fighter, Counter Strike, Diablo 2 are Mt. Rushmore games that defined gaming in their respective genres forever. They needed to be recognized
Same with Chrono Trigger. It's a travesty none of those were included
Listen to the opening remarks so you'll know why your personal picks were not included
A couple of games to add:
Ōkami: A beautiful game with a great story and well designed Zelda-inspired gameplay.
A Hat in Time: A really fun 3D platformer absolutely oozing with charm.
Also, special mention goes to Ori and the Blind Forest. While you included its sequel, which inproves upon it in many ways, I still think the first is the better overall work of art.
Blind forest is indeed the better game.
Hat In Time is so overrated. I gave it a chance but it’s really not that good. Annoying level design.
I would say Contra III alien wars and Shinobi
Thank you for these wonderful additions
Okami is superb..pretty long and immersive experience as a original PS2 game..nice story , Humor , Fun Combat , And unique artstyle..never seen such a unique game
Someday I want a huge council to come together and make a definitive list of the "best" and most iconic video games of all time. Games that defined a genre, games that defined the industry, games that defined a generation, games that most gamers can agree deserve a spot on the list.
Mario 64 and GTA3 we're 2 of the most revolutionary games imo
Yesssss! Dropping this on a Friday night is perfect! That's my night off work sorted!
Thanks for doing this, and my recommendations are:
Dark Cloud: Originally from PS2 (It's on PS4 alongside it's sequel).
Re1 Remake 13:15

Great to see Sonic 2 on the list. 20 years ago, you could always be sure that either Sonic 2 or 3(and Knuckles) would show up on lists like these, but over the past decades a notion has popped up that "Sonic was never great to begin with". The crappy modern Sonic games have tainted the classics games so much that a lot of people (especially younger people) simply cannot comprehend that the Sonic series was ever in a state where most of its games were masterpieces. But back in the day, Sonic was just as critically acclaimed as the likes of Mario, Zelda and Metroid.
They are mid, sega just has no good first party so this is their best lol
Same I am glad sonic 2 is here, though other sega games like yakuza 0, jet set radio, and crazy taxi are pretty close

Its a cool list but left4dead being alongside back4blood is a crime
Horizon deserves to be on this list! Amazing gameplay. Fascinating lore and story.
What a great way to showcase gaming, everything appreciated for what it is and not compared and contrasted against each other
One game that absolutely needs to be on this kind of list is Before Your Eyes.
I would actually posit two other titles that would truly hit you in the feels and they are That Dragon Cancer and To The Moon.

-Batman Arkham Trilogy
-Red Dead Redemption
-Hitman 3 (with all the Hitman 1/2 content as DLC)
Nope odyessy shouldnt be on here, why would u put a game so many ppl hated?
@@Siberianlumber odd, I didn’t realize Odyssey had that much hate, shows how out of the loop I can be when i don’t pay attention lol

Seriously, I kept count with a counter...
47 outta 101 💪🏿💪🏿
Awesome to see a list that isn't a ranking kind of. :) just a chill list of good games
It's near impossible to do a ranking list of 100 different games and to justify their rankings. I'm glad they didn't since you can't really rank Dark Souls together with The Sims or pretty much any game in this list.
No. Half suck booty butt cheeks. Have fun with those walking sims and telltale games filled w riveting gameplay
Don't know how you can mention Hades without mentioning the artstyle.
One of the most consistent and beautiful artsyles in recent history.
Hades 2 didn't age this one very well
I commented on this before I watched this just because they ate triple jump and they deserve it but you guys have no idea how next level your videos are. Genuinely changed my life the last couple of years, cheers troops
I think you need to play the occasionally Ride to Hell to truly understand how great these games are.
I think Rayman legends is an absolutely great platformer. It is possibly the greatest part in the franchise and I recommend it to anyone who likes platforming games even just a little bit.
What an incredible list, you guys kept me engaged for the full 2 hours and I was sad when it came to an end 😢
You had me at Hollow Knight, I just cannot get over how freakishly good this game is in a sea of mid offerings, it deserves every accolade it's gotten and if none it's criminally underrated. Bring on Hollow Knight 2 already.

Bruh.

Quite surprised to not see any of the Diablo games on the list.
Great selection of games! I personally would have added the following titles:
- Diablo 2
- Age of empires 2
- Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis
Age of empires 2 is still an epic game
I’m glad I went through the entire halo franchise it was well worth it
I was shocked to see you didn't put Hitman as #47 but then again didn't really care. But the shock I had when you put Agent 47 at #46... Missed opportunity lol

YES Odin sphere is so so good
Neat list! I'm an older gamer so I was expecting more SNES/NES games, but still pretty much solid choices all around.

101 games and not even a mention of TR? That game was incredibly groundbreaking and Lara Croft’s character hugely iconic in gaming.
Certainly meets the criteria you seem to have followed. It’s sad to see TR get so overlooked.
AGREED.
Nor was there silent hill 2
I enjoyed it, would recommend.
Justice for Alec
Absolutely true, all of it.
the thing about night in the woods is it's a very targeted genre. a lot of people view that type of game as just a walking simulator. it would really depend on if you're caring about the story or not.
Great game, but problematic to recommend these days what with all the controversy around its maker
The inconvenience makes the fear even worse 😆
Air supply, battery power, food and water and health are all constant consideration, and you can play hardcore: one life!
I’ve had the game for years now and I still love it so much, and it’s a unique experience I would recommend anyone check out
Ive played about 60 of those titles listed and beaten about 50 of those 60. Not too shabby. Interesting list!
Really enjoyed this. Great trip down memory lane:)
Great work guys. You could do a similar list of games not available on current or past generation hadware.
I've played both and prefer the simplicity of asylum.
For Star Wars fans, Rogue Squadron for N64 should also be on your must play list. Especially if you prefer the flying aspects of the genre 👍
Very good, I was looking for such a video. No fast forward, with short comments on the listed games. I am surprised that there are many titles that I have not yet played.
I love the variety in franchises. Two I would’ve added would be chrono trigger and shovel knight. Great list though!
I was very surprised that there was no Chrono trigger, usually it’s featured prominently in these type of lists, but maybe because it’s hard to get a hold of?

I agree. That’s should definitely be on this list!
Thanks for another supermassive list of video games, I always look forward to these videos the most and this was one of the best I think. That being said:
Superliminal - a spectacle of a puzzle adventure that'll resonate well with anyone that enjoyed Portal. Its narration is charming and tells a sweet message.
OMORI - an emotional roller coaster of an RPG that stands as an excellent serving of innovation and charm. Not for the faint hearted though
Amnesia: The Dark Descent - one of the best horror experiences of all time and still holds up as terrifying while telling a very intriguing story through notes scattered throughout the game
DDLC - like Deadly Premonition, this one's not for everyone, but the people that like Doki Doki Literature Club REALLY like it (myself included), so it's worth finding out if you'll be one of its fans
Banjo-Kazooie - I can't believe how well B+K holds up as a 3D platformer today, from the music to the level design and pacing. It's readily available on Xbox and Switch as well. I played it for the first time this year and adored it.
Wait, banjo kazooie is available on switch??? Why did I not know this

Right!
Loved this! Please get Simon to come guest narrate a list some time!
