- Hauling & wrapping round bales for baleage on our upstate New York dairy farm. Wrapping bales with a McHale 991 LBER wrapper and a John Deere 3010. #farming #equipment #agriculture #newyork #hay
Even though it creates a lot of extra work more Hay is always better then not enough Hay! As always a great video and thanks for taking the time to post a video during the very busy hay season!! 👍😎
Its definitely a plus to have a lot of hay
👍👍
Thank you John
Very nice Mike. Kinda makes you feel good when a job is done for the time being. I say if you don’t have storage for dry hay wrapping is a great idea too. Be careful in this heat.
Thanks Rick. They are nice bales
This balage is a neat thing especially in a year where getting hay to dry is a challenge. We experimenting with it. 102 round bales.... That's a bunch. Ha!, hopefully going forward you can leave the neighbors alone but never forgotten. You can only haul with what you have. That's how it goes. Once more it was nice to see the 3010 helping out too.
Yeah I don't like being the guy that always shows up asking for something. It was good to use the 3010 again
The Kuhn makes a very good bale! I hope you will have good luck for the next 10000, and then you can look harder at one with processor knives. 🤞👍
Yeah I'm happy with the Kuhn baler
Hey keep up the good work Mike I enjoy the videos. I’m still in the old days using John Deere 420 , 530 and John Deere 301 Tractors but they keep on going and I love it
They are some good old tractors!
thank you
Thank you
3010 did its job. I actually put the 4000 on the wrapper this year, runs it about the same as the 3020, but picks up the wrapper better with the added weight up front I thought, and the side console is a little more user friendly.
I finally counted yesterday, wrapped 36 bales the other night. Not a record for either one of us 😂 but it was a lot of work
Still makes for a long night
Glad you got that done Mike. Yall got some pretty country up in your neck of the woods. Take care buddy👍
Thanks Kevin. Its definitely a beautiful state
Mike that's a great bunch of baleage those cows are going to milk on them. Great video
Thanks Paul. I hope they do
The squeaking loader seat made me laugh… every time I borrow my brother’s loader (Volvo model of yours) the seat is always squeaking and I fix it for him because eventually it makes you crazy! Nice bales you put up .
I need to loan you our loader so the seat will come back more quiet! Although if it didn't squeak I'd probably notice it and wonder what's wrong
Next thing you need is a inline wrapper anderson brand saves on plastic and time. I run both wrappers it saves in the long run
Probably wont be getting another wrapper anytime soon. Have too many other things to get
Individual wrapped gives you a better option to sell some.
👀🙄🐾👍Great video Mike
Thank you Jim
Holy cow you are 5 o’clock busy my friend!
Yes sir
Was the 3010 Andy"s tractor before? Nice you can do that alone.
No just the rops and canopy was Andy's. The 4040 use to be Andy's tractor
First! 😂 Keep at it, Mike!
Thanks Morgan
lol @5:36 where the camera is on the trailer and you can still hear your seat 🤣
You can hear me coming
you might be able to increase the pressure on your baler, the bales look a little squishy. Take care
Thank you, you take care too
Hey your seat squeaks. 😁
It does? I didn't notice :)
Hey Mike sound like you are having a good hay crop.
We sure are James
New sub
Be glad you have a loving family you can turn to for help when you need it! Cherish your family time!
Thank you for Subscribing. I really appreciate it
What about wrapping the dry hay in black plastic so it the much easier to know which is which?
Not a bad idea, I don't have any black plastic though. I got a pallet of the plastic you see in the video. I'm just putting the baleage in one area and the wrapped dry hay in another area
Hey Mike is that tornado anywhere close to you besafe and good luck
Thanks James. Luckily we didn't get any tornados
Looks like you have a lot of baleage
There is a good amount
Good job 👍 can the skid steer go on trailer to take to field ?(when working)good lot of bales weather messing us up abit this year😢
It could, Our skid steer has a hard time lifting these bales. Pushing them off works better for it. Even taking them off the trailer takes forever
I'm glad you got a bale wrapper do you set them on the ends because they have more wraps per square foot
I stack them like that because they keep their shape better
What brand and mil. wrap do you think works the best for you? I am trying something new this year. It is Euro. I have heard they make the best wrap.
We use Flavor Seal which is a 1.0 mil. I demoed wrappers at the end of last season, this is the first year we really have wrapped everything. I really have only used this wrap. My neighbor sells it so I just get it from him. I have nothing to compare it to
What diameter of bales are you making? 4 foot or bigger?
Also, I have a Mchale 991be wrapper which is a tow behind version. You should try just letting it start on Its own at the normal wrapping speed. My machine is fully automatic and I rarely have issues with it ripping plastic at the beginning.
I make 4x5 bales
Do you think balage is good for beef cattle as well? Would help them get to sale weight faster
I would think baleage would be good for beef cows. I would talk to a nutritionist to get the right ration
So what do you do with the plastic after you unwrap it recycling ot trash is the wrap cheap and would it not be better to build barn to store it in just question i have
We are wrapping it for baleage. The plastic isn't just to keep the weather out of it but we bale the hay wetter and the plastic seals it up so the hay will ferment inside like silage in a silo. Even if we had a building to store all the hay in the bales would still need to be wrapped so they become baleage.
One man job if needed, how many acres is that field ,thanks Mike
Always nice to make it a 1 person operation. I think its 35 acres
@@mikep7810 thanks for the reply Mike, appreciate
what are you doing in your spare time sleep maybe
A little sleep
How many hamburgers you got
We milk 50 cows, have replacement heifers and some beef cows. Probably 120 total
@@mikep7810 holy crap you got a lot of hair braids you got oh ok 💗
@@mikep7810 you got a lot of headbands you got to do
@@mikep7810 I'll tell you one thing it's hot we are no heat wave if it's hot stay in the air conditioner if you're outside day in the house and stay cool all right
@@mikep7810 how are you doing today Mike
3010 for the win! My favorite tractor of yours, I believe. The canopy makes it cool. I’m not criticizing at all, but did those bales look a bit squishy when you grabbed them with the grabber?
The 3010 is a great tractor for sure. They are pretty solid bales
