Didn't mean to come off disrespectful there's just been times where I've over sprayed concrete porches and other stuff not keeping things well covered you're set up in system might minimize your overspray and not call for the necessary prep
Paint Life TV i cant believe you sprayed the trim with their truck in the garage. What about over spray?
Hi sir
Gracias makes a spit control adapter for $60 bucks.. works great!!
Hey. Which paint brand is the best for garage door ? Metal, vinyl and wood.
Im a professional painter for over 20 years, painted 100s of garage doors, and ive painted behind the weather strips and up too the weather strips. Out of all the times I've ever painted behind the weather strips I've had literally 0 problems with paint sticking or ruining door mechanisms. It honestly looks way better when the whole door is painted, and you don't see the old color when lifting the door.
Haha, you know you are a pro when you feel confident spraying the trim with a truck parked inside!
I was thinking the same thing!
I guess when you’ve done it for 18 years it easy peasy. Lol
I personally would have a new truck color as well! 😂
learning that the pros don't paint behind the weather strip was worth the full length of the video. I have a door to paint and really didn't know what to do with it, but this is great. thank you!
SO , you just paint right over the weather strip?
I was able to repaint my garage doors and exterior doors like a pro because of these videos. Thanks!
as a garage door repair guy its awesome you talked about not spraying behind the trim, keep up the good work
also if your door is sticking you can lube up the trim with stuff like "slick it" product
Where do you get that? Also can i wd40 my rollers? I had old metal rollers & just installed (diy) some vinyl/plastic ones! Much quieter... But its still loud for some reason.
@@floridagirl9064 Don't use WD40 because it washes away good/new grease. Use 3M Silicone Paste or a silicone spray. (the paste is nice because it doesn't run/drip)
Boeshield T9 is the best thing to use
10:24 WHOAAA!!! For insurance and assurance, I would've asked that the vehicle be moved out of the garage. With you having over 18 years experience, I will not question your method. You make it look easy sir.
Chris thanks for all your education on painting! I have learned so much from watching all your videos.. Keep up the great work.
Nice! I just wanted to thank you Chris for all your videos. Just finished my first live in flip 'n' rent, and used all of your techniques from trim,ceilings/walls to deck and fence. Would've taken me forever in experimenting if not for your tips. Even broke down and got an airless after being convinced of it's time savings! Wish I would've gotten it from the get go!
Game of Life Nice
those extras are what people love like spraying the light something so little can gain many customers 😊
Nice, I watched this to find out what to do with the weatherstripping specifically and you answered that; thanks!
Glad to help
I do tenant repairs, one of the complexes I service has eighteen units all with single garages. The exteriors were recently painted, including, of course the 8' garage doors. The painters painted the doors while they were shut, which glued the doors to the vinyl weather stripping all-way-round. When the tenants opened the doors, every one of them bent at top were the opener attaches. I've managed to straighten them "good enough".
Noticed pick up inside, I was spraying my mom's soffit and neighbor complained about his motorcycle being sprayed by over spray I just put a plastic cover over bike but nothing happened. I usually tell clients to pull car, truck, bike, even loose dog out people get sensitive about their stuff knowing that I know what iam doing. Nice job👍.
I've sprayed a couple vehicles growing up painting now i consider myself a professional 😇
I paint alot of garage doors myself. I use a duece to hold the paint though. It also fits inside an empty 5. Its alot easier than trying to pour a gallon can inside a gal can inside a 5 gallon bucket🤗. Less chance of making a mess, plus its all boxed 2gether at 1nce.i cross out my doors. Side to side then up and down 2 coats allways. Overlapping isnt 2 coats. Plus if its really oxidized i powerwash the door 1st and throw a fog of ultra grip primer 1st. Its also a good idea to toss a piece of the thin plastic over the back of that car, y take a chance? Believe it or not a fine paint dust will get inside that garage. I do the gaps inside the door so its the samecolor as its opening and closing. I take the xtra time to do that. You can do 2 at 1 time and let it dry real quick before opening the door to get the bottom 1. I do those on the 1st coat. Im in ca. So its usually warm enuff to not have to wait very long for it to dry. Thats just me though. I never do just 1 coat on anything exterior.
You did a wonderful job.. I'm professional painter and I learned alot from you.
I actually liked the tritech fine finish tips. Sprays really soft and last longer.
Dude, your stuff is always so helpful. Thank you!!
thanks
Chris, my favorite video of yours to date!
James Potter thanks for the support
Love your videos as always- very informative and fun to watch. Good tips on painting. Rock on!
alwaysrockn2009 🤙
I always used evershield for garage door... now I know I can used resilience for garage doors resilience is good for house close to the beach or a lot heat
I do alot of garage doors. Ive allways used evershield on anything outside. But i switched to aristoshield for garage doors. Wow what a difference.
You’re the man! Your videos are so good they make me want to get a sprayer and start painting. Excellent video as always. Thanks making these available to all of us. These help us all learn how to ‘do it right.’ Rock on!
I always like to roll the trim out on garage doors. Not right or wrong just my way of doing it. Good video with some good tips brother.
Thanks for mentioning why you shouldn't paint behind the trim. I live in FL which gets very hot and almost made that mistake.
I appreciate all the knowledge you share on all your videos.....thank you....
Your welcome! Thank you for sharing and watching🤙
Test....the best cheap sprayers . Congrats!
Thank you for all the tips!
Your welcome
Paint job looks great! Interesting house number.
I think so too!
Great time saving tips. Thanks for the videos from Chicago. Glad the virus didn't shut down home centers. Sherwinn Williams is curbside p/u only.
Hey thanks a bunch Chris really come in handy. Learned a whole lot from one little video👍
Great to hear!
Excellent work Man
Doors look great. Never had that problem with the weather strip tho and FL gets hot as hell. Down here we always do in between the folds the old color showing looks unfinished.
Awesome
That little 440’is one of the best investments in my life so far
You unbelievable! Great tips lots of good knowledge here. Thank you👍😎
Thanks for the support
Thank you for this great entertaining video. I hand brush or roll everything lol.
Oldschool👌
Me 2
Great video! Noticed the trim was sprayed with the truck still in the garage. Kinda scary 😱. Those cardboard shields are no joke. I'm going to review the over-spray video anyway. Still trying to figure out the limits of what is too close to spray ops.
@@nothingsimpostleble1593 you talk like a pro but sound unprofessional.
@@nothingsimpostleble1593 brushing and rolling is fine, faster and many pros do it that way. If the final finish is good enough for you and your client then keep doing it. Chris stated in his video that because it was a smooth metal he decided to spray them. That's his expectation of a finished product
Chris great job...I don't use sprayer unless its new home construction. The garage doors I simply use a 6 inch Wizz roller..No masking..no overspray worries...I can roll the doors in same time plus the trim...Good job tho...Repaints is what I'm talking about here..New homes..yes..I would use a sprayer...Thanks for your videos!
Responsible Citizen was not scary to me one bit but I’ve been spraying for 18 years daily. Never one over spray claim in my career
@@Idahopainter I know, clearly experience counts. The over spray video talked about using major caution which makes sense. In fact you talked about how vehicles can be damaged. I was impressed and surprised that you can get that close.
I always make sure my drops underneath my paper it's about pointless to put it on top of your paper cuz the pressure from your gun will still blow over spray underneath
Gunner Lundin Exactly I do the same.
Same
Gunner Lundin it great that work for you but just because others choose to do it differently and it works for them it’s far from POINTLESS!
Yes but he also has to two sheets of paper too! That is just for over spray precaution. The pressure from the gun is nowhere near the drop cloth just the paper which is taped down.
We only run one row of paper and a drop underneath, but i would feel two rows is sufficient, especially if you manage your pressure properly.
Hi
Great video, is that paint water base or oil base?
What about between the panels of the door, this is not painted? Thanks
Great video, thanks for sharing
Looks REALLY GOOD!
Good video Chris well explained
Hey Chris u said it took three quarters of gallon to do the two garage doors don't forget it takes about a quart to fill the line buddy 👍🏻👍🏻
Another great job!
Good to note that when you are spraying the length of the door your spray can dip and raise aswell because of your steps.
OK
You da man the real deal
Thank you 🤙
Good point with the weatherstripping. I'm about to spray my doors black and was wondering if I should paint behind it or right over it. Never thought it would have that strong of a hold if it go stuck.
Hi good job my question is how much did you charge for paint garage doors?
I wish they would only go to 140.... 180 is the norm for us here in Florida. Big tip on weather stripping is we use blue tape it with a 2" or wider tape since most the times the Garage door will be a different color from the frame. We also try to avoid to use any sort of latex on those metal doors. Often Enamel or now also Urethane will be sprayed which is a much better finish and for the $30 in paint difference we often can convince the customer it's really worth the money.
Recommendation on what kind of paint to use for a metal garage door.
BM Aura
It must be nice having a brand new airless sprayer for every job.
he cleans his sprayers for videos. I doubt his production sprayers look like this.
A little salty?? Bro is offering tips and advice. And all you can do is attack. Nice.
Chris is there a tip guide or explanation video on different tips and what the number and letter combos stand for?
Adam K I have several
Due to my semi OCD tendencies and wanting a clean look when the door opens or closes, I paint the panel seams as well. a 5/15 is not necessary for a simple door/s, a 4/15 or even 4/13 will suffice.
I prime right back into the paint bucket lol!
I have 3-9' metal doors like these that are highly oxidized. I would have loved to see how you would have prepped the doors and primed prior to spraying final finish coat. Can you give any advice for prep work?
Thanks, and love the channel!
Yes when it's aluminum doors use pressure washer on 4200psi it will peel off any loose materials, than switch over to a Edger product like Acetone or what we often use to get grease and fat of the doors is M-1 Paint Deglosser.
Carl Saporiti power wash well and add emulsabond to the paint
Powerwash and throw some ultragrip premium on their 1st
When writing up this estimate do you have a standard price you charge for each size door? And what camera are you using? Your video is extremely clear. Thank you for the tips.
7:33 🤔Same thing happened to my door...🙄but the opener buckled the top section because the bottom seal was frozen to the ground (winter). Bummer!😑
(to avoid either situation disconnect opener and test-try opening by hand first. For frozen winter doors: use fine table salt from the dollar store in hot water... shake it up in a gallon jug and pour. Ice melter or rock salt is too chunky for the door to seal)
Thanks for the tips on the weatherstripping! If a garage door has really worn or dried out weatherstripping on it around the sides and top of the door would you recommend spraying it when you spray the trim or would it be better to replace it with new weatherstrip? Thanks again for all the tips!
I would
Aristoshield is awesome for these type doors
I'm brush & roll. I often paint the weather strips because it looks better. I move the door up & down & get some paint behind the strips. I keep moving the door to prevent stick.Funny story: I was painting for a computer nerd geek one time and he pulled his door apart to paint between the panels. The door collapsed on him creating a dangerous situation.
I paint the strip to because usually its all beat up and it does look better. But prime it 1st
Typical price to door front door and 2 garage doors? Thanks so much for your help.
Thank you for your time. Can you give me a rough idea about prices. How much material and labor cost from the contractor point of view. Thank you again
$595
Love how you sprayed and didn't even cover the truck.
Nick, I thought I was the only one who noticed that. I usually charge extra for that, lol. Cheers ~Joe ✌😎
Nick Blevins You need to cover it cause your skills require it 😂😂😂
@@Idahopainter And you call yourself professional.
Too me the risk of getting overspray on that truck out way the alt. of throwing a drop or a piece of plastic on it. It could be a costly mistake, 1 gust of wind and it's a wrap.
Can you be more specific if you ever sand or pressure wash? Do you need to use DTM paint, and only 1 coat?
Hi chris
Very impressive! Well-done
How many coats did you put ?
I noticed the cars still were in garage paint particles not going to stick to them
What would you do in between panels with rolling doors with smaller panels , would paint stick together and how to avoid it
Champ 🙏
One coat and the doors when closed are sealed 100%
@@Idahopainter thank you Chris well-done mate! 👌👌
I never get spits using a Graco clean shot valve. Sure they're a hundred bucks, but produce the best quality job you'll ever get. Also the swivel helps in so many jobs. Cant see how anyone wouldn't be using one?
I use a graco proX19 with a 515 with the extension on an exterior I’m doing now and my gun spit’s like crazy! Suggestion’s? Already changed the filter in the gun.
Love your videos brutha!! Do you have a video on painting soffits, gutters and brick?
I'm gonna attempt to do my house this spring.
Hey
Where can I find your green pipe ? Its looks very flexible.
Thanks from France for all your videos and tricks 👍👍
Antony
I love all of your videos. I'm spraying a lot of interior trim and with a fairly new Graco 210 rac x tip and this particular job I'm using Sherwin Williams industrial coating multi surface paint. It looks like smoke in the building while spraying . Is there any way to eliminate this?? If i turn the pressure down i get fingering. Thank you so much.
Thanks as always! I’m looking forward to the spring thaw to get some exterior painting done.
What was your prep/leaning for this? If the doors are visibly dirty, is power washing necessary? Thanks!
Resilience is good paint....
Nestor Mejia it’s good for cold weather. Not so good in warm. Have had problems with dark colors fading prematurely
What’s prep consist of? Do you use a adhesion primer in certain situations? Or only a Dtm paint
Thank you Chris - really awesome video! A couple of questions: My garage doors are textured metal skins like the ones in the video. So, what about prep? No sanding, no primer? DTM products work well? I am seeing acrylic and latex versions, and recently "waterborne alkyds". Can you share any words of wisdom on the chemistries? Existing doors are in excellent condition but I am worried about adhesion on the semi-gloss surface. I am a homeowner and love the Titan you use but I have a Wagner. Should I toss that and rent a good airless or with some practice, I should be able to make that work?
What size tips were used on your tattoos?
What about painting between the panels? When you lift the door, wont you see the previous color between each panel?
I was wondering the same thing. I would think it should be painted, it will be visible when in movement.
What sheen is best using a black paint
Hello, what type of paint did you use on the metal garage door. Was it an oil base?
What do you usually charge for a garage door if you dont mind me asking
Hey there, great content thanks! I’m wanting to do a garage door and the trim along with siding and soffits all the same color… I want to use the same tip you used for the garage door when I do the siding. But what size do I need for the trim and soffits? Could you link the spray hose, extension, and tips for me to buy them?
You mentioned overspray, any suggestions on the best way to clean up overspray on textured concrete?
you should do a vid on 440 vs 410 titan impacts
douglas robert 👍 it’s done will post soon
Hey Chris!! I love the videos. Thank you. What kind of paint do you use for painting garage doors? I’ve heard acrylic latex is the best for metal doors.
Good question. Did you find out an answer. I’m also trying to paint my metal garage door with wood trim. Idk if I can use the same exterior paint that I’ve been using for my exterior trim around the house on the metal garage door. Help if you can. Thank you
Do you paint the weather seal too? If it is a lighter color can you paint it with a darker color?
Learned from your experience to put the gallon in a bigger bucket to avoid tipping it over!
Thank u bro
I'm 6'4, it's really hard to my back painting that way. I have to do it horizontal.
About to do a previously painted steel garage door with a few rust spots I primed with red oxide. Should I shoot the primed spots and one coat?
How do you spray with a truck inside the garage and not over spray
Any special type of paint for metal garage doors?
What paint product did you use for the doors & trim?
That would be nice to know ,huh?
From what I saw of the can he used Sherwin Williams Resilience. My guess would be a satin finish
I noticed the hose that your spraying with is way more flexible than the normal hoses I’ve seen, is it a special kind of hose?
@paintlifetv if we’re painting our house as well, should we paint the house before or after the garage doors?
It really do not matter
What sheen to you recommend for garage doors?? What sheen was this door?
Satin
Hey paint life whats that color bud? Im liking that
Hey Chris new to your channel and just want to say thank you from Massachusetts. I’ve been binge watching your videos during these crazy and tragic Covid19 weeks. My question is any advice for me as I do my homework on buying a sprayer and recommendations for spraying the vinyl siding on my house? I’ll keep looking through your videos perhaps you have already posted one of you spraying vinyl! Thanks again and as you say, “OUT!”
How are you able to spray the rubber weather stripping? That can't hold up for very long?
Chris was there any prep to the rubber on the side weather strips of the garage door for the paint to stick?
Use a graco cleanshot and your Life is sooooo easy. Greetz from The netherlands.
Would you always recommend spraying garage doors even if they are textured? Or can they be rolled and brushed?
How do you spray the top part of the door if its not exposed when the door is closed? To you just mask it off and paint it partially open with the door at an angle?
Do you use gracos ever?
