Welcome to the official April Wilkerson UA-cam channel. I’m April and I’m the creator of Wilker Do’s. I'm not professional or have any training, so I just pick the project I want to tackle and figure it out step by step. On this channel you will find a variety of content like DIY home improvement, How-To’s, construction and more.
I can't hear read off product descriptions like "...decreases overspray by up to 55%" without thinking "Were' gonna test that!" from Project Farm.
Raising the door up right after spray painting is a very good tip! 👍
Like always thanks for sharing.
Just make sure it isn’t a roller door 😅
Thanks for watching!
So good to know that even a professional, such as yourself, is just as klutzy as I am with painting projects. Your little dance at the end was a great Stan Laurel impression..please take no offense, it really made me smile.
😂 I'm glad you enjoyed that!!
very impressive I must add a simple comment on the white trim. You could chalk the holes then paint, that way it looks even cooler. Keep putting out videos. thanks
I noticed that immediately and wondered why she didn’t putty those holes before painting.
Purtyful purtyful purtyful, looks great April. You did a great job painting the garage doors. Thanks so much for sharing with us. Fred.
Thank you so much!
Awesome job April. Can't wait to see more videos soon my friend. Keep up the great craftsmanship and hard work my friend. Keep making. God bless.
Thank you so much! I appreciate your continued support.
Another nice video. Thanks for sharing this. Wishing you and your family a blessed week, gentle autumn weather and restful evenings. Peace April.
Thanks! You too.
Very nice paint work April. Some excellent pointers. You make it look easy!!! Thanks for sharing these great ideas. Take care!
Thank you so much!
Amazing video as always. Thanks 🙏🏻
Inspirational to get our garage doors done!
Thank you! I'm glad you found it helpful.
Great makeover!
Well done, April!
Thank you!
Love that color and going to look into that Wagner sprayer more. Thanks April!
I'm glad you liked it!
Blue. Perfect color. I had an artist come paint a huge bald eagle and American Flag on my garage door. I had no idea they sell sticky plastic.. who knew. I am so happy I just learned something. 🎉
April, that was an awesome video!!! I love doing this stuff! now you have me on a roll!!!
Thank you! Glad you found it useful. Thanks for watching.
Magnificent as always! The painter is perty magnificent too...even the weird kicks! Lol
😂 Thank you!
Huge improvement! 😃👍🏻👊🏻 ... Nicely done April!
Thank you!!
Just the kick I needed to paint my garage doors. Been my to do list for two years, thank you for the kick.
Glad you found it useful. Thanks for watching.
😳
Great job love that color! Have a wonderful weekend!!!!!
Thank you!
I just painted my garage door blue this past summer too! I’m in love with it. It was a very worn out black when I bought the house. It looks so much better now. I painted my front door the same color too.
That sounds great! Thank you for watching!
That's what I want to do
Hey April, that stone would take on a totally different look with *traditional lime wash* (literally water+construction lime). It doesn't cause the damage that painting stone, brick and mortar does, it adheres well and can last for years without needing a fresh coat, and as it ages can take on a nice, natural patina. If you don't want it to just be white, you can dye the limewash if you go with an all natural dye although they are usually only available in earth tones. We did our exterior 3 years ago to get rid of ugly orange ish brick. Absolutely stunning results, looks like a completely different house
Very good project. I really like the color. It brings out the details of the 🚪 s. 👍👍👍
Thank you!
These last few videos have been great smaller and relatively easy projects. Great for people who looking improve their house without breaking the budget or needing difficult solutions
Thank you. I'm glad you enjoy my channel. I build/do what I need or want but I do try to mix it up, large and simpler projects to appeal to all. Some enjoy more simple builds and complain about the complicated ones. Others want complicated ones and say I'm slacking if I do simple builds. Sure is hard to please everyone. :) Thanks for watching.
Good Job April, you go girl!
Thanks!
Looks very nice April!
Thank you!
Very nice April, thanks.
Thanks for watching!
I always wanted to do this so now I will. Thank you
Enjoy your project! Thanks for watching!
I really like the stone. I would have left the trim brown, but then blue/brown is always my go to combo.
The New Color is beautiful.
Thank you!
Good job and nice colour!
Thank you! Cheers!
The stone looks nice. Blue looks great with it!
Thank you!
Nice one April. Doors look awesome
Thanks!
You really picked a great color. It looks great.
Thank you!
Thank you for the inspiration for my next good weather weekend. That will be in 6 months or so here in Minnesota.
That gives you time to decide on a color! Thanks for watching!
I did the same thing last yr. Brighter blue though. Then painted my front door and shutters to match and then found a mailbox the same color.
Nice simple project!
That sounds great and great idea with the mailbox! Thank you for watching!
Looks great!
Thanks!
This is awesome and thanks for the sprayer referral. Going to pick up one for doing my garage door. My Clopay garage door was originally beige/putty and with the southern exposure, has now sun faded to a pinkish hue 😂.
Yes, over time they do fade to a different color. A new paint job even if same original color will look fantastic. Thanks for watching.
Beautiful!
Thank you!
Always wanted to paint my door but didn't want to deal with runs or overspray. You provided some good tips! Thanks, and it looks great!!!
why ???
Thank you!
Great job
Great job on painting the garage doors looks so much better April :) Thanks for sharing the video with us!💖👍😎JP
Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching.

Tysm for the tips I will do my garage this summer
Great! Enjoy the project. Thanks for watching.
Awesome Job
Thanks! I'm glad you found it useful. Thanks for watching.
Just painted mine on Saturday(16' x7'). Did it brush & roller, 2 coats (northern Canadian weather, want it to last long). As well propped the garage door up at diff heights to do the panel edges. Rather than mask, I just unscrewed the trim pieces and replaced them after all was dry. Even with my paint discount, I find it's crazy expensive to waste paint with any over spray.
As always great job (I won't mention pressure washer) and as always luv ur way of being.Ralph
Thank you! I appreciate your support!
Nice job April
Thank you!
Nice job, April. Those doors really “pop” now visually compared to what they were before!
Thanks! I love the look. Thanks for watching.
I so desperately wanted you to pull out a power washer to clean those doors! But who cares, the result was amazing. I loved the colour selection!
Thanks!
That was a cool video. I don't like painting at all but it's sometimes necessary. My doors are all wood and I just finish them. My front door is metal and I might try your sprayer method. Wagner doesn't make a bad tool in my opinion. My security system is 12 gauge. Great video and thanks for the tips.👍❤️
Right on! Thanks for watching!
The result was fantastic, looked like whole new garage doors.
BTW dirt on the doors, I usually pressure wash them, when I was our cars. Takes like 1 extra minute :-)
Very good Video 👍👍
Thanks for the visit!
Nice project. Very straightforward and that sprayer makes it looks almost simple. How is the clean up of the machine and hoses?
now i'm anxious to see what you do with the stone lol :)
Awesome!🤙🏾💯
Thank you!
Very nice!
Thanks!
April W *ISTHEBEST* 👏👏👏👏
I appreciate your support!
How you painted it perfectly fine. But cause I work with a lot of different paints when I used to work at a auto body shop. I am just in the habit of primer, base, and then clear. I applied that same principle to wood painting and such and I can say without a doubt that it usually is a much better finish and protection then just repainting over something.
Hi April!!
Hello! Thanks for watching!
nice!!
April, I know I said I liked it white, but I admit that I like the matching Blue better. 😁
On another note, have you ever used any of the insulation kits for garage doors? My garage is also my shop space with the garage door facing the western sun. All summer long the space is hot as the hinges of hades and too hot to work. The kits are between $60 to $200, much cheaper than a new $3000 insulated door. 🤯. Thanks for the advice.
I like the stone. IMHO it still goes well with the blue-grey doors.
Thank you!
Very good!😊👏👏👏👏🌷😘
Thank you!
I simply love you
You're very kind, thank you!
April, looks like the garage door needs a few karate lessons because you kicked it out of the park. Great job. 👍👍🍺🍺😁
😂 Thank you!
*April, so every time, that you lift up the garage door, you will always see the original colour, on top of & under each panel. If that was me, I would have also painted them the new colour too.*
And the flat behind the weatherstripping.
Great video! You've convinced me to purchase the Control Pro 170, but when I was in the store I couldn't find the extension that you used in a couple videos. Is that the Wagner brand extension or a compatible competitor?
If you don't like the stone you can get concrete stain it goes on just like paint can even be sprayed (which is preferred) and the best part is it doesn't take away the texture of the stone
Great advice! Thank you!
Looks much more new and modern. Not sure about the stone work. Maybe some flat Hardy Board like Matt Rissenger used on his personal house. You can get it in off white colors which would look great with those doors.
That’s a good color.
Yes, I just love it! Thanks for watching.
Good morning, April! Tried to send this yesterday morning but apparently, I was in youtube jail.😇
Great job on the doors! We're doing that job right now, besides replacing all of the T1-11 siding on our garage.😩 Thanks for sharing ANOTHER awesome video.👍 God bless.
Thanks! I'm glad you're enjoying my channel. Thanks for watching.
@@AprilWilkerson Been watching and enjoying your channel since the very first video. You've come a long way in a short amount of time and your talents grow exponentially with each project. You should be proud of yourself. I know all of us are!! God bless.
Looks really Sharp April!
Thanks!
Love the color! May I ask what is the name of the color? I have a mobile home that needs to be painted and would love this color for the trim, but then need to find a lighter color for the home itself.
it looked good when you cleaned it LOL
April excelet good 👍
Thank you!
I just saw your video. Nice looking. Did you paint in between the panels?
Great tutorial on painting the doors. I have an existing garage door and 2 doors on my shop addition that I need to paint so this was right on time. I will be using my airless sprayer as well to paint them
Glad it was helpful! Enjoy your project!
Do you recommend Airless or HVLP for the home diy’r?
Thanks.
Might be my OCD but, shouldn't that handle be in the center?? Or maybe add another on the other side? Great tips thanks for sharing!
Do you plan to stain/paint the stone? That's an option to soften the dark earthtones.
Is there a reason you didnt prime? Also if I were to do a meral garage door - would you suggest lightly sanding it first? Thanks in advance from you new subscriber :) keep up the great work and videos!
Did you paint the panel breaks with a brush or leave where the panels meet the old color?
Was hoping you were gonna paint between the panels.
Ficou top....
So what about the garage door portion which is above the weather seal? Was that not painted?
God Bless Texas !
Thank you for watching!
Good morning
Your garage doors look awesome April! Is the Wagner Sprayer hard to clean afterwards? 🤷🏻♂️
Not at all! Cleans up quickly. Thanks for always being so supportive of my channel.
Planning on selling my garage door . This should help. 😁
Glad this helps! Thanks for watching!
hi what specific paint was used in your video ?
I love your videos. And I have to say I hope we meet one day. I’d be happy to help with one of your projects.
Thank you and thanks for watching!
literally everyone: wait a minute I don't need to paint the garage door...it just needs a wash!! 🤯🤯🤯
😂
@@AprilWilkerson honestly, I never even thought about it lol
Love those hinges!!!
Yes! I think it looks great with the blue doors. Thanks for watching.
Looks like metal doors like my neighbor has. They painted their doors with a roller and the paint peeled and bubbled like crazy after a few months. Paint didn’t stick well at all. Makes me wonder if metal doors need special priming or something.
The final finish of the door has a ton of "orange peel." Is that the sprayer's fault or was it like that before you painted it?
any tips on painting the gaps between the panels (seen at 6:06)? my garage door is dark brown but has the beige\white original color where the painter ignored the gaps. drives me nuts every time i open the door!
Was wondering the same thing! Tempted to lift door until the panels spread slightly and spray the gaps, but each would likely need to dry completely before moving on to the next. Also, the area behind the weatherstripping makes me think it would be better to remove it/paint/ and then replace with similar color, or some that matches the new trim color.
tbh - nice owrk but I liked the white colored doors better in contrast to the relatively dark stone walls.
The (nice) blueish color looks darker relatively to the stone wall.
But as always, the beauty lays in the eye of the beholder.
While I'm at it - at "complaining" that is;-) - lifting the garage door after paiting might allow dust particles from the garage ceiling to fall down onto the open garage door paint while it is still sticky, especially on windy days.
Instead, putting a vertical protective foil in front of the garage door while the garage door is still down should protect it from the flying dust particles.
But, of course, as always, it's just another way of doing it.
always clean from the bottom up so streaks will not be formed by dirty water running through the dirt below. sounds backwards but it is not. of course, if you are painting .. likely order is not required. dont forget to paint the hose to match the door color.😆😆😆😆🤣
Dawn soap in the pressure water bottle.
What is the name of that paint color?
Door is not done yet you left streaks on every panel when you go to open it, you do them first then you spray the door
whats the name of the sprayer
Does paint on weather strip hold up 🤔
So far it has but if it doesn't in the future, I can always touch it up. Thanks for watching.
