Thank you for making these informative videos! I’m actually a store manager at a Sherwin Williams in St. Louis, Missouri, and I send my staff your videos all the time to help train them in a fun way! We appreciate it!
Painter over 25 years here. You keep me up to date on products and you have opened my eyes on the Bible. Keep on doing what you do , thank you God Bless
Hey brother, I just wanted to let you know that I watched your vids when I first started out. The so called "journeyman" that were teaching me weren't to keen on showing me too many tips and tricks. That was 5 years ago now and luckily had your videos to get me through. Thanks Chris, you're a true master at your craft bro. God bless
This guy has saved me tons of time and money! I love the fact that he doesn’t blab for ten minutes, before he gets on topic. He needs to paint a house for This Old House.
Beginner sprayer here. Purchased a Graco x5 strictly for diy and home reno projects. I have some interior doors that new and primed from the lumber yard. I heard you say at 6:45 you use 510 tip for interior doors but on the video screen it says 310 for doors and gutters. I'll be spraying the doors in my garage. My fiance and I did a complete house renovation and had all new sheetrock and primed and painted the entire house. We had it trimmed and filled all the nail holes and caulked ourselves. Everyone asks who we hired to paint and can't believe we did it ourselves. Wouldn't have been possible without your channel. Thank you
After watching this instead of paying a painter 2500 to paint my house I bought a grayco magnum project sprayer and imma tackle it this week. Watched a bunch of your videos. Such a help
Dude, I don't comment on videos but, you do such a great job sharing your knowledge!!... Great job!! I'm just a homeowner that likes to do my own stuff and save a dollar in the mean time... You help us do it yourselfers!!!
Numbers 6:24-26 God has truly blessed you. Ive painted over 30 years and have gained a great deal of insight from your videos. Keep up the great work. Your tutorials on sprayers have helped me immensely. There is safety in the multitude of counselors. God bless you
I watched this because my boss has one, and I think he wants me to learn to use it. After this, I may know more than he does about it. A lot of information in short time. Thank you sir.
You guys are great it's nice to see painters who actually know what there doing I just got a graco nova 390 I've been an hvlp cab guy but you just cant beat the production and new fflp tips thanks for helping me pick the best sprayer to help my business grow!
Great vid, showed this to my crew today. One more tip related idea: Each size tip has a GPM rating that should be considered in relation to the pump being used. For instance, using a 321 tip requires a pump that can push better than .47 GPM. We spray thick materials (intumescent paint) and usually use 325 tips so the pumps we use are pretty stout.
Great video. In my 37 years of experience I found out that they are many ways to achieve a good paint job so we individually have to find the one we feel good about. Excellent video 👍🏾👍🏾
I love your videos! I started working as a painter in September of last year and started learning about airless sprayers. you are my go-to instructor/teacher when I wanna learn more about paint.
Thank you Idaho Painter for this video. I work as a handyman/general contractor and this video really helped me to clear up what tip, and pressure, I should be running on my Graco 210es.
I've never used an airless sprayer. I plan to rent one from the Home Depot to spray the unfinished inside of my 2 1/2 stall unattached garage. The walls are 3 sides of the studs on 24" centers, plates top and bottom, and the wallboard behind them. From watching a previous video of yours, that means spraying the inside of the rectangle first and then the wallboard in the center. The overlap would be on the tops of the studs. The surfaces will be thirsty since it is raw wood and the black paper wallboard surface. I'm guessing that the 5-15 would be be a good fit for a first-time person. It might take longer, but I could adjust my speed and passes rather than be overwhelmed as a first-time user by the speed and perfect distance discipline required to prevent getting into run trouble. Your videos have been helpful to me as to know how to approach this project.
enjoyed the sprayer tip video !!! used our 695 today with a fflp 310 tip, using ppg pre catalyst epoxy. It was a little bit of a learning curve to dial it in. had to play with the pressure dial and thin it out with a little water. but once we got going, it laid out so smooth.. we are semi new to spraying and adapting to different product and different applications. VIDEOS LIKE THIS ARE SO HELPFUL. THANK YOU VERY MUCH
I wish my boss listened to my today. I've spray 200 gallons out of a graco 517 blue tip 200+ gallons and can tell my orfal is almost a 521. I spray metal roofs and very disappointed with my finish because he didn't wanna replace my tip after i told him im wasting 10 gallons and having heavy overlays and and i hear its blown and and and the over spray is noticable. Thank you for teaching a 5 years sprayer how to be a perfectionist with pride in their work.
I liked the Joshua 1:9 verse inserted in the video. Happens to be my favorite verse. Synchronicities are always interesting. :) Great info/video as well!
Just a quick thanks - I've just finished a remodel (I've never done anything like this) I have lived by your channel for 3 months - the finished product (if I do say so) came out great - you are the best.
Thank you for an excellent video. It was very informative and helpful. I often screw up by doing trial and error as I did before finding your video. This has helped a ton.
Good information, thank you. ASM is a division of Graco, there tips and base guards should interchange w most Graco guns and are 5 or more dollars less than Graco brand. Also I noticed the tip that seems to come w all the guns is .517, popular but may be to heavy compared to the ._15 tip?
Just bought my first airless sprayer. A graco x5 magnum. And I should have bought one much sooner. I'm not a painter but I have a maintenance company which I do all types of service. Well just tested it out on my dinning room came with a 515 tip and the first time using a sprayer. Set up to break down and clean took me 45 min total. This includes prep time. My wife was amazed at how fast it was. Now she wants the rest of the house painted. I Going to purchase the trim tip since this house has more trim then a boat. Hope it makes it easier. Thanks for the video. I enjoy watching. I also just subscribed to your channel for further painting tips.
I am not a professional painter by any stretch of the imagination. I'm just a man that needs to paint his house to keep my neighbors and the city off my back. Your tutorials have been an invaluable tool for me so Thank You!
Awesome help Chris, Thank you. I just picked up a Graco 490 and painted a textured ceiling with the blue 517 Rac X tip it came with. Turned out great. I will get a 619 also for the walls but I assume the 517 may work as well, right? as well as the 619 on textured ceilings? Thank you for your videos!
This video is very informative! I just picked up a Graco X7. Recently un-boxed it. I'm going to spend some serious time on your channel learning before I get spraying. Need to look into purchasing different tips and an gun extension. My first project is a deck, and then a fence. Any input/direction would be appreciated. In the meantime I'll be searching through your channel. Thank you so much for your contribution. You rock man!!!
First time using airless painter and must say it turned out very well thanks to your instructional videos. You videos are a great help..... Glad I taped and masked everything because the over spray was pretty bad. I was using a 515 tip.... Any suggestions that would help with the over spray.... Thanks again...I was working on interior walls...
Chris, you might want to mention that depending on the pump size you're using can limit tip size that can be used.I have a 2005 Titan Speedfo 6900 XLT gas and electric and with the gas engine I can push up to 2.15 gpm using up to a .48 to .50 tip on a single gun and 2 guns @ .33 and 3 guns @ .23 and 4 guns @ .19, and only about 1.25 gpm using the electric motor. If the tip is too big it can wear the motor and pump out prematurely.Great videos!.
Smooth operator 👍 I think the pro painters here now exactly what I'm talking about: u guys give the house painters trade a good reputation 👍. Good for u !!! And I live paint for 25 years
Seriously! thank you for all the videos. I’ll be purchasing some merch to show support and appreciation . Also thanks to journeyman John as well. I just bought a graco airless sprayer and ordered all the tips you recommended. I got my 18” roller and pan, my stiff brush for cutting in. I got my masking gun with the blade and my 20/20 tape, brown paper, red paper, scrapers , 5 in 1 tool, and the best part, seriously thanks to you i know exactly how to use them. 🤙 ready to rock.
Beautiful objective demonstration of Tips! It's so good, that I think I would like you to spend more time making another 2 or 3 videos on them, because it just seems like you have a lot more you want to say :)
I’m new to airless spraying am using Ben Moore Advance. I was told because it is thick to use at least 515 however I’m spraying chairs and a bookcase. When I looked at the BM Tech sheet it says this Fluid Pressure - 1,500 - 2,500 PSI; Tip - .011 - .015 Orifice Does that mean I can use basically anything in that range like 311-515? Would I need to thin it?
Outstanding video. I am a homeowner that has brushed, used pads, and rolled my cedar shingle home since 1975 when I first purchased it. The home has grown as our family did, and I have painted the interior and exterior many times since. Starting back on the South side of the house and had to really put some effort into cleaning and resecuring the cedar shingles, and primer cutting under the overlap where the roller would not get up into. In getting ready for this, I broke down and purchased the Graco Dewalt battery operated sprayer, yet had very little knowledge of basic hardware or fan and tip relationships. Thus I brushed and rolled the primer over the past weekend. Yes, I was quite ignorant and hesitant to jump into something that I knew needed insight and education. I have had my own small business for 30 years and excel at what I do, but I sure needed schooling for this. I just spent 2 hours tonight following you and your videos specifically on the Graco unit, where you used it on the garage outside, and the doors in the restaurant. I appreciate your candor regarding how you adapted to the changes in pattern and your discovery regarding the settings where you turned back to 5 where before you suggested 7 or more, and did not get the paint stratification with the lower setting. Man did you educate me on your tip number relationship with respect to fan width, orafice size and material (surface) to be applied to. Kept pausing and taking notes and filled out a legal pad. As with any profession such as this, experience is key, that I understand. However you have absolutely put me on the right track and your teaching was awesome. I respect the tool now, and am not intimidated by it. I subscribed to your UA-cam channel, and wanted to say Thanks for sharing your gift. My grandfather back in the 30s and 40s had his own painting business and perhaps he will see me do things a bit smarter now. Thanks for opening that horizon for me, during a Friday night well spent perusing your channel. I watched you taping / covering windows earlier this week. Your product introductions are very insightful. I will visit your store very soon. I need to get tips as this Graco only came with the green 310 and I need the 515 for my outside work. Thanks! Harry
I retired from painting 19 years ago. I hated the Graco gun with its two finger trigger. I used the Wagner gun with the 4 finger trigger. Way less fatigue on my hand. Now, I know that Graco has a 4 finger available now but not that I knew about them then. The other thing I always hated was the reverse a tip, just an excuse to not keep your spray machine clean and running efficiently. When you have to stop and flip the tip around your just wasting time. I had a SprayTech 2510 electric pump, a conglomeration of Wagner (Titan) and I believe Speeflow, though I could be wrong about speeflow. I used this wonderful 2510 for a few years. For interior wall spraying I used a 12/21 12 inch fan my spray technique was like doing ti chi where I kept the distance of the tip from the wall constant using up and down and side to side angles at a constant pace. Now on exteriors is where I really shined. I used a wore out 12/21 tip to where the fan at 4' was only 3" to 3 1/2" and so it was also at 12' with the volume of a 0023 to 0025 tip. Even on a ladder my feathering technique left no flashing even on unprimed Hardiplank concrete siding with the darkest of colors. The builder asked me to train his painting contractor working in another town how to spray exteriors. I told him, perhaps you should use me instead. I quit painting at 45 years of age, got my CDL at 47 and have been driving trucks for the last 17 years. No more funky painters whites, no more paint all over my hands, face and hair. After nearly 30 years of painting, I don't miss it at all. But to each his own, I'm not putting anyone down for doing it, its harder than it looks to the non painters. I know this because An employee of the builder asked me how much to paint his new house. I told him $900 not including materials, a bargain price. He said I'll just do it my self. He was a kind of creepy guy The secretaries told me he talked shit behind my back, and he gave kudos to no one, until one day. A month or so later he walked up to me and said, "I should have let you paint my house" "that was the hardest thing I ever did in my life" "you made it look so easy when I watched you doing it" My reply to him was, thats years of experience you were watching.
Thank u so much for this priceless info, I recently started using that same sprayer that I received as a gift, all I was using was the tip it came with. This video u put it is a tremendous help, this rip size and out put ,thank u again.
The orafeses start to expand the more gallons you pump threw also. If your doing a lot of work....you may go threw more then one. Love the fact that as long as you keep pulling that trigger$$$$$$
Great video my friend!!! Very informative!!! I loved how you explained EVERYTHING in detail and then showed examples!!! I'm a beginner so I think I'm safest with the 517 I currently have.
I just bougth a Crago X7 sprayer and used it for the first time two days ago, I love it! Sparrying primer on walls and ceilings. Next spring i'll be spraying the exterior of a house. Thanks for explaining the tips!
Someone is Always Gonna be Painting - Great Information!! I appreciate the fact that you aren't some sales guy behind a desk doing a "demo" - Needed to know the answer to the biggest question - Are Tips interchangeable? YES as long as the is married/connected to a matching guard. The guard holds the tip and the guards are "universal" because they connect to the Gun or Extension with an industry wide accepted 7/8" connector threading. With an exception of the Wagner F Guard with an 11/16" - Thanks the work!!!
No problem, you help me out on my painting projects for sure. Great tips and very clear instructions. Great work and keep up the vids!! They're my go to when I need assistance.
Good information. I was curious how much of a difference a 0.002 jump would make. I have a 515 that came with my sprayer and it always clogs. Planning to get something larger.
So as I listened to you , which was very easy to understand giving experienced knowledge to help me diy my aluminum siding that has lost the color , I have confidence but maybe not as much as your stamina , I mean thanks a bunch
Im a commercial painter. We go through 80 to 100 gallons per an 8 hour shift. We change tips twice a day unless were spraying metal deck ceilings. Every once in a while, we will use a 395 or something, but mostly its a gh230 gas sprayer or a 695 if were indoors. Id love to try out a 1221 sometime. Im afraid the ground man wouldn't keep up though.
Absolutely badass man, I just obtained a 5/8 HP Krause & Becker Airless Sprayer unit model 20600 from my uncle and as a professional painter for the last 32 years using primarily spray cans I feel as if the space time continuum has reversed direction, well maybe not that, anyway, I really appreciate your tuition and your skills are quite impressive, thank you.
Thanks for the tips. I Am about to start working in this field. I have no experience and this video is a Good starting point. I have learned a lot. Thanks.
I happend to somehow land on your youtube channel and without a doubt am very pleased cause I've leaned so much more, I like most contractors think they know it all even with years of experiance, about 10 years or so ago I was contracted to paint a wooden 6' fence, ( hay no problem ) yea right . well needless to say I knew I wasnt going to use a roller so I decided to rent a airless sprayer (not knowing anything about them ) well I completed the job using way more paint then I should have and quite a mess with clean up, what tip did I use ???????????????? the one that came with the sprayer I rented ( what do I know ) ........anyway I decided the purchase one which I did from Harbor Freight and it worked again not kowing anything about what tip is the right one, I was able to get by with it and done a few decks which worked but I tried to do interior walls ---big mistake-- ended up rolling the walls -- now to the current day - last year I had to rebuild a deck and paint it --no problem untill I tried to use the sprayer I had for the last 6 0r 7 years I ran but no paint --I then went to Menards and purchased a Graco magnum pro x17 and after watching one of you videos ( WHICH I MUST SAY HELPED TREMENDOUSLY) I used a 5-15 tip and was great but I never pruchased a extention wand so a lot of bending and too much pressure ( but I'm learning ) It turned out way much better gave to say thanks for your videos and I'm going to try and find the station you broadcast on ---never to old to learn -- thanks again
What tip would you use for interior walls? I have a Graco X7 but I’ve only painted outside with it. I bought some years ago to paint my rental house and have been watching you ever since. I volunteered to paint a interior renovation at my church. Never mind - just saw the list you put up - 619 for interior walls. Thank you!
OMG! How good are those sprayers! Years ago1976 when out of work a Friend paid me $6 au an hour to sand and paint his old Queensland 6" overlapping wood-panelled highset House. It had Silky Oak Shingles over every Window a different colour and Wood multi-paned Glass Windows with built-in Veranders, all with a 4" Brush , took me 6 weeks and in the middle of Summer.
I bought a Graco 490 sprayer, the guy at Sherwin Williams where I bought it said to use a 212 on the trim. It worked on the first gallon, then stopped spraying. I had to go to a 515 to get the gun to spray.
I strained it and watered it, and it still jammed. I just put on a 515 and am now using it for everything, trim, metal facia under the overhang, and walls, so far it hasn't jammed even once.
I was told the smaller tips like the 310 was for thinner materials like stains. I painted my house last weekend with a 415 and 215. It just dumped paint on and had a lot of runs. But only needed one coat
Thank you for making these informative videos! I’m actually a store manager at a Sherwin Williams in St. Louis, Missouri, and I send my staff your videos all the time to help train them in a fun way! We appreciate it!
Awesome, thanks for the support Jazmin!
Paint Life TV : you are the man 👍🏼👍🏼

(pun intended) *A LOT OF GREAT TIPS IN THIS VIDEO*
ive seen you recently. New Zealand right?
For real.
Just the tip tho
Lmao
Thanks! I have an interior that I have to touch up, and I really don't want to mask everything. Now I have a better idea of what tip to get.
You did a fantastic job on this video.

Painting old cabinets
Seriously! thank you for all the videos.
It's so good, that I think I would like you to spend more time making another 2 or 3 videos on them, because it just seems like you have a lot more you want to say :)
lol, yes there is a lot to say! Thank you for watching :)
I’m new to airless spraying am using Ben Moore Advance. I was told because it is thick to use at least 515 however I’m spraying chairs and a bookcase. When I looked at the BM Tech sheet it says this
Fluid Pressure - 1,500 - 2,500 PSI;
Tip - .011 - .015 Orifice
Does that mean I can use basically anything in that range like 311-515?
Thanks!
Harry
When did John Cena start painting?
I have no idea what you're talking about. I dont see anybody?
254 dislikes.....just proof some people just hate everything
appreciate your videos, free knowledge is great knowledge
Thanks🤙
Waiting for him to paint something. Id like to know how much of a mess this would make in my house😒😒
Not for amateurs, call a pro or hand paint it (brushes and rollers)
Tis is super helpful,Chris, we appreciate everything you do for us in the paint world, excellent video man
That was awesome.
Thank you!
I retired from painting 19 years ago. I hated the Graco gun with its two finger trigger. I used the Wagner gun with the 4 finger trigger. Way less fatigue on my hand. Now, I know that Graco
has a 4 finger available now but not that I knew about them then. Even on a ladder my feathering technique left no flashing even on unprimed Hardiplank
concrete siding with the darkest of colors. I know this because
An employee of the builder asked me how much to paint his new house. I told him $900 not including materials, a bargain price. He said I'll just do it my self. He was a kind of creepy guy
The secretaries told me he talked shit behind my back, and he gave kudos to no one, until one day. A month or so later he walked up to me and said, "I should have let you paint my house" "that was the hardest thing I ever did in my life" "you made it look so easy when I watched you doing it" My reply to him was, thats years of experience you were watching.
I wish I lived in Idaho! I want to learn from you. And a good ol'boss that believes in the gospel of jesus😎😀
Love the fact that as long as you keep pulling that trigger$$$$$$
first
Sid Meloche 14th!
You are awesome!
You are great teacher and professional! So much knowledge and so many details!
Great video! The title matched the content and your explanations and demo’s were spot on. 👍🏼
Great video my friend!!! Very informative!!! I loved how you explained EVERYTHING in detail and then showed examples!!! I'm a beginner so I think I'm safest with the 517 I currently have.
Thank you so much!! Wow! I’m not that experienced on using spray guns and now I know the best way to start.
I just bougth a Crago X7 sprayer and used it for the first time two days ago, I love it! Sparrying primer on walls and ceilings. Next spring i'll be spraying the exterior of a house. Thanks for explaining the tips!
I really hope you don’t paint for a living because those are only made for home owners.
Every one of your videos makes me want to get back in the game
No problem, you help me out on my painting projects for sure. Great tips and very clear instructions. Great work and keep up the vids!! They're my go to when I need assistance.
Good information. I was curious how much of a difference a 0.002 jump would make. I have a 515 that came with my sprayer and it always clogs. Planning to get something larger.
So as I listened to you , which was very easy to understand giving experienced knowledge to help me diy my aluminum siding that has lost the color , I have confidence but maybe not as much as your stamina , I mean thanks a bunch
Great tips (sorry for the pun). Also, love the boldness in which you post Joshua 1:9. Love it!
YOU ARE A GOOD TEACHER.......YOURE REALLY A PRO...........THANKS
Absolutely badass man, I just obtained a 5/8 HP Krause & Becker Airless Sprayer unit model 20600 from my uncle and as a professional painter for the last 32 years using primarily spray cans I feel as if the space time continuum has reversed direction, well maybe not that, anyway, I really appreciate your tuition and your skills are quite impressive, thank you.
Thanks for the tips. I Am about to start working in this field.
I have no experience and this video is a Good starting point.
I have learned a lot.
Thanks.
You are welcome!
Very informative. Thank you for this. I will be able to get more projects done with the tips/ends and pressure tutorials.
Lots of great information done quick and complete. Thank you . And especially how you repeat important information. Thank you 😊
Glad it was helpful!
Your video is awesome. You cleared up alot of the questions that anyone should know before using a sprayer. Thanks 👍
Thanks bro been using ur advice for 2 years a lot of people don't know wat there doing they think they do
I happend to somehow land on your youtube channel and without a doubt am very pleased cause I've leaned so much more, I like most contractors think they know it all even with years of experiance, about 10 years or so ago I was contracted to paint a wooden 6' fence, ( hay no problem ) yea right . well needless to say I knew I wasnt going to use a roller so I decided to rent a airless sprayer (not knowing anything about them ) well I completed the job using way more paint then I should have and quite a mess with clean up, what tip did I use ???????????????? the one that came with the sprayer I rented ( what do I know ) ........anyway I decided the purchase one which I did from Harbor Freight and it worked again not kowing anything about what tip is the right one, I was able to get by with it and done a few decks which worked but I tried to do interior walls ---big mistake-- ended up rolling the walls -- now to the current day - last year I had to rebuild a deck and paint it --no problem untill I tried to use the sprayer I had for the last 6 0r 7 years
I ran but no paint --I then went to Menards and purchased a Graco magnum pro x17 and after watching one of you videos ( WHICH I MUST SAY HELPED TREMENDOUSLY) I used a 5-15 tip and was great but I never pruchased a extention wand so a lot of bending and too much pressure ( but I'm learning ) It turned out way much better gave to say thanks for your videos and I'm going to try and find the station you broadcast on ---never to old to learn -- thanks again
Thank you!
Thanks for the videos I found them very helpful. Tomorrow is my first day with my Graco X5. It's also my first time spraying ever. Wish me luck.
Wow ! These companies sure do complicate this stuff. Thanks for trying to clear it up for us!
You bet!
Excellent video! It nice to see a Master painter share knowledge to others
Thanks for the sensible advice from a fellow painter in the Netherlands.
You are welcome!
i really appreciate your channel gives me much confidence in painting my own house
Glad to help
This guy is awesome, and knows his stuff. Seems like a great dude to work for
I bought a Graco 490 sprayer, the guy at Sherwin Williams where I bought it said to use a 212 on the trim. It worked on the first gallon, then stopped spraying. I had to go to a 515 to get the gun to spray.
Thunderbird88 was paint to thick
I strained it and watered it, and it still jammed. I just put on a 515 and am now using it for everything, trim, metal facia under the overhang, and walls, so far it hasn't jammed even once.
You've convinced me to just whip out the roller!
I was told the smaller tips like the 310 was for thinner materials like stains. I painted my house last weekend with a 415 and 215. It just dumped paint on and had a lot of runs. But only needed one coat
A 310 would have worked, What paint were you using?
