First Ride of 2020! KTM 690, Husqvarna 701 & Honda Africa Twin
Вставка
- Опубліковано 30 гру 2020
- After having in been in lockdown due to COVID 19 for a few months we are finally able to go out riding. It is a late start to the season for sure. Ivan is on his KTM 690, Marc is on his Honda Africa Twin and Riley is on his Husqvarna 701 Enduro. We meet up at Marc's cottage and then head out on the trails. We first hit the Scotch road here we find a rider who had just crashed his Yamaha Tenere 1200. He is ok and just had a bent shifter lever. We see evidence of a lot of development in the area. We all wimp out when it comes to doing water crossings and everyone stays dry. We have an al fresco lunch at a hamburger stand and then ride over to Fort Ouest which gives us access to some more trails. Finally we hit the Jack Rabbit road and return to Marc's chalet. Not too bad for our first ride of the season.

I get excited just hearing the intro music lol
Kind of a catchy tune. Maybe I should update the graphics though.
@@AwesomePlayers Oh don't - Henriks expression of trepidation cracks me up every time : )
Finally! Was really looking forward to new AWESOME videos!😊
We will try and deliver more content. Our video editor is a bit of a lazy sort.
My wife and I switched to Packtalk Bold and really like them. They connect automatically, not crazy pairing BS. Really like your videos! Watching from North Western Ontario.
This year after the initial trouble was the best for comms ever. The mesh 2.0 actually worked really well. Better range, less clicking and reconnect issues. We have talked about switching brands but it would mean 7 or 8 guys all buying new gear.
@@AwesomePlayers Glad you got them meshed. It would be a hard sell to get 7-8 guys to change over at the same time.
Dang good timing! Haven't seen you guys much this year and the first search shows a new video posted 5 hrs ago. Gonna enjoy watching this one 😎
2020 was a good season riding wise. More coming.
@@AwesomePlayers it sure was!
Hi guys, you made a good decision to not cross the rail bed water crossing. I am the one working on my bike next to the bridge. I dropped my bike there and flooded the engine. Cheers
Small world. I wondered if maybe you were flooded out. I drowned my 701 the summer before at the next water crossing on that same trail. Hope 2021 treats you well.
Ah this brings so much nostalgia, thank you!
The good old days are today!
I certainly did appreciate the live streams and I realize there's a global community of 'players' that have been posting to the FB page, but ......these videos are what I really missed. Super glad so see them again.
Thanks Esteban. Always nice to hear form people who like the videos.
Great to have guys back on UA-cam. Happy holidays to all !!!!
I put 4,000 miles on my BMW 310GS in northern Michigan this year before putting it away for the winter
I haven't had a chance to ride the 310 yet. Maybe this summer if demos start up again.
I was anxiously waiting - thanks for posting!
Hope you enjoyed it!
Perfect as always happy new year to you guys
Thanks so much
So happy to see a video, and one that promises more, is even better! Sounds like your lockdown was pretty tight, did it help? I'm sure you're aware, not much of a lockdown in most places south of your border. And of course the cases are continuing in the wrong direction. I too don't take the drone often when riding with others, too time consuming. Great fun as usual! I look forward to more videos, Happy New Year!
Numbers a t a record high here despite the new tighter lockdown. We seemed to have it licked mid-summer so things opened up and we are worse off now than last March. I see the US numbers and I'm shocked. Stay safe!
Yeah Baby!!
It was a long time. I am glad you and the boys are back!!
kind regards from Switzerland
Another video Premiering in about 3 1/2 hours. ua-cam.com/video/OECIo7iNwdI/v-deo.html
so nice to see y guys again
Nice to be back. Starting to get excited about the 2021 season.
Good to see you Guys back at it!
Thanks bud.
Hi guys, great to see you out on the bikes! 2020 was a tough year. That's too bad about the development happening, it's tough to find and keep riding spots. That looked like a nasty uphill section even on camera, nicely done. We hope you can post more footage soon to help get us through the winter...Happy New Year!
Thanks. Starting to get itchy to get back out there. I think this year the focus will be more on trips and remote camping.
Great to see you guys back!
Thanks Alan.
Good to see you boys out riding. Keep the rubber side down!
We tried but we had a few rubber up incidents. They do make good video.
Good to see you guys again. Happy New Year.
Happy new year! We are planning some fun stuff for 2021.
Great video as usual! Looking forward to next one!
Cheers.
Happy New Year Guys! Keep upp the good work into 2021. Like the narrative a lot and great riding 💪😁.
Thanks, you too! Hope '21 treats you well.
Nice to see you back on trail. Happy new year.
Thanks, you too!
Love these videos
Thanks man.
Can't wait! I've missed seeing y'all!
Awwww...
Beautiful riding country.Thks.JHB-SA.
It sure is! We are fortunate despite our complaining all the time.
Happy New Year! Good to see you!
Same to you!
Happy New Year to everyone. So good to see you guys out and about . . .
Cheers Stephen. Hope 2021 treats you right.
Don't make it short! We need bike content! ;)
Around a 1/2 hour.
@@AwesomePlayers Awesome! 👍
Hi, fantastic film once again , i was happy to watch it on the first dag of 2021. Greetings from Belgium , infected by covid as well , but hooping on a new vaccin full year. happy new year Players.
Many thanks Joris. Happy New Years to you. Hopefully things will be a bit more normal by the summer. Record COVID numbers here right now. Stay safe.
Cool video! Finally some new stuff :). Can't wait for next ones!
Some really fun stuff from 2020 coming up.
@@AwesomePlayers Sounds like a second christmas! :D
It's been awhile, I'm glad you're all good.
Hope you are staying well. 2020 was a good riding season and I'm very optimistic for 2021.
Great footage, looked like a fun ride if not as wild as the classique
I think it felt so good due to the lock up.
Awesome, Players!
Best Videos on UA-cam! Thanks for the great Entertainment.
Thanks Torben. Appreciate the kind words.
Realy good vidéo thank you Guys !
Glad you enjoyed it Pat. Cheers.
Great trails great vid 👍👍
Glad you enjoyed
Great to see Mark back at it. I tore my ACL on possibly the last ride of the season this November and working hard on rehab to be ready for the new season. And yes, knee braces!!!
He is back 100%. They replaced everything in there I think.
Great to see a Players video Reilly! Hope you are all well.
All good here. We are lucky that we can all work remotely. Lots of folks not doing so well. Stay safe.
As always super stream. And i see super bugy on road🙂
No shortage of bugs here in the summer.
Thanks Riley! Great to see a new Awesome Players video🍻
Cheers Chris.
keep'em comin'
Roger that. More coming.
Finally you've heard me ! these days I was checking your channel to see if there was new videos ;) thanks ahah !
I thought that faint noise was the compressor in the fridge going out.
@@AwesomePlayers 😂
Wohoo, a new video!
Well a new old video. Cheers.
Am patiently waiting for more awesome updates and new videos from the players!
More to come! I have been getting some great footage and doing a lot of fun rides.
Give her!!!
Hi Riley,
I'm glad you're back. Very nice video. I liked to See the sandpit from the air.
What brand and model of knee braces are you three using? We're all getting older...
I wearing Leatt Z, some of the guys are using Alpinstar, some have prescription braces. Fit is pretty personal like boots. Also takes a while to get them fitted right to work with your boots and be comfy.
Great to see you all survived. Covid Boogieman has kicked us all in the jewels for sure. Don't know bout you guys but mine have grown three sizes so far. LOL
Seems like we are getting to the end of this. It is going to seem very odd when we can just travel and do as we please. I hope we all appreciate it more.
Ivan's 690 looks great. I had to get rid of my crf450L this year but the 690 is looking really sharp ;)
Sorry to hear the 450 had to go. 690 and 701 are really the only bikes in their category. 450 is a bit small for me to do some camping/touring. The 790 and T7 are big heavy bikes in comparison. All the KLRs and DRs are dinosaurs and just lack power. Test rode them all and decided to stick with the 701. Plus switching costs $$$.
Wow!! I was shocked to hear the history of your “JackRabbit road” because near Lake Placid NY we have the famous “Jack Rabbit trail” which is a miles-long x-country ski trail named after the same fellow who lived there for some years!! I have his biography written by his daughter.
PS I love your group because you all remind me of my Canadian uncles and cousins!!
Died at 111!
Sena pairing, every god damn time.
Once the season got rolling the new firmware worked quite well. Mesh was great. Fred bought a Sena that died pretty quick but was replaced on warranty.
We missed you!
Awwwwww. Nice to be back.
Yes finally
Should be another video tomorrow.
17 hours away! Such a tease 😂
And then I waited 6 days to reply!
@@AwesomePlayers It's fine, I know when I'm not loved :D
Its on at 3am new years day here! I may have to catch up with it later! Cheers!
Or depending on if you’re drinking sounds like a good way to end the evening / start the new year 😅
@@CarparkCarl Australians drinking.... surely you jest.
I just woke up from my alcohol induced coma. Hmmm... was that really 3 days? Great video as always.
@@Nerb1 Good day! New video out tomorrow so will schedule the live for a better time!
@@Nerb1 my hero!
Hi Riley, if you don't mind me asking, which type of cameras are you using nowadays? Thank you, really great to see more awesome Awesome Players videos!
I use a GoPro 7 on my helmet and have a GoPro 8 for handheld and running around. Ivan was using a 4 I think but has since bought a used 7. We both have mics in our helmets now. The quality jump starts at the 7. The 8 and 9 are very slightly improved. The 7 has the new stabiliser and it is great. Battery life on all the GoPros sucks. Turn on 4k, stabilization and GPS and you have 45 minutes.
Great video....any chance of a link or review of the knee braces you boys are using ??
Old men like me need to get some very soon , thanks guys and Happy New Year 👍👍👍
Happy new year to you as well. I’ve only worn mine a few times but will talk about them more when I hurt some more time with them. Cheers.
Great to see you guys back - sorry to hear a big chunk of your playground is going to be falling victim to urbanization. Time to think about installing some long range fuel tanks maybe.
We knew it was coming. Still sad. We did a few remote camping trips this year and that has really given me the bug. I think that is the future for us.
Great to see the Awesome Players out playing again. Here in the UK it has been stop, start, stop, start all year. Still, plenty of time for spannering.
Same here. We were down to like 70 cases a day here in Quebec and now we are back to record numbers approaching 3000 a day.
@@AwesomePlayers Scary stuff. I just hope the vaccine is the light at the end of the tunnel. It might take some time, but at least we will know there is an end in sight.
@@neilmackinnon3371 I'm with you.
Get watch on new year day. Happy new year to all the awsome players 👍
Happy new year Kerry!
Where is Henrik? Miss him!!
Henrik is now a sailor although no boats hit the water this year.
That’s funny that he’s a sailor now seeing how his water crossings were always a harrowing event! Lol
@@AwesomePlayers Miss him anyway. any movies from the other side styx?
Good little vid :)
Thanks bud.
@@AwesomePlayers Have subscribed - looking forward to more of your adventures:)
hey happy new year to you guys
Same to you buddy.
still got your sticker pride of place on my screen hopefully it will get to some interesting places
hooray!!!
Hooray right back ay you! Happy '21.
You can put a small 5v 2.4amp power bank in you chest pocket, use a right angle usb c cable on the gopro, and have a very useful power source setup for the gopro.
I tried a wired solution but found it a bit of a pain. Will try and optimize it better this season as 6 battery changes a day where you have to remove the camera from the mount is areal PITA!
Riley, have you watched Long Way Up yet? I thought the biggest change from the first 2 trips (besides electric bikes) were the drone shots. They really upped the production value (of course they have a camera crew and 4k). I also thought that the helmet cams they used did a better job of showing the terrain and not flattening out everything like the GoPro does. I think they were using the Sony Action cams on their helmets. Maybe someday GoPro will crack the code on steepness.
I was watching and said the same to the wife. Imagine if they had the drone technology on the first series. There would have been some epic shots. I was speaking to Ivan about this season and one of our objectives is to make time for more drone shooting.
You guys fond some LAMAYAS along the way lol ( 12:17 )
I purchased a yellow 09 F800GS in February and now you change to a 701!
Great bike. Yellow is also the fastest colour!
Congratulations.
Are we going to see some great Ural Gear Up content this year?
At least one fun ride.
Is it ok to ride motorcycles in Quebec during winter months? I read somewhere that there are "winter tires" laws which are hard to comply with for motorcycles.
No go after Dec 1st till March 15th.
Sort of sorry to hear....here in Ontario March 15 can be very warm at times in the south by Lake Ontario.
👍🇦🇺
Riley when did you get the 701 and did you trade in or sell your older bike?
Summer of 2016.
@@AwesomePlayers OK I recall watching you on a BMW I think in the Ganarasca so I was wondering if you still had that or sold it for the husky
@@leighmugford Dave was is the last one of us on an F bike. He just put a deposit on a Ducati so it will be up for sale in the spring. We had 5 of them in our crew over the years and they were super solid machines. All of them took a ton of abuse and were still running like new when sold.
Wow! That looks like an awesome ride! Wanting to hit up the Scotch Road in 2021! Anybody have a gpx file they would share?
Just cross the bridge at Hawkesbury and keep going straight. It becomes the Scotch.
Great videos guys. If you want to capture the other guy's intercom, and film in the same time and you hate all the cables and wires and setups take a good on sena 10C Evo. I run a Sena 10 C Pro and it is fantastic. It is on my channel , you will see the quality of the video and audio without the hastle of wires.
Will check that out. Thanks for the tip.
I took look. Interesting device but it seems it doesn't have the Mesh tech. Mesh is really a key feature for us now.
@@AwesomePlayers well that is true but my solution is a mesh adapter that is cheap, small and works briliant. You can adapt it to all sena devices. Please take a look. This setup is clearing your helmet !!!
@@DragosRDS Interesting. Will have to do some research.
i own a packtalk bold. i can match up with my friends that have sena. no problems.
For me the mesh is key. We go in and out of range so often the reconnect is a big issue.
What tires are you running on your 701?
Dunlop D606.
@@AwesomePlayers Nice, do you have any opinions on them versus the stock TKC80s? My TKCs seem to do really poorly in any wet terrain.
@@Llama052 Much more aggressive on dirt. First few hundred kms they feel a bit loose but then settle in on the road. Not as smooth as a TKC on the street. Another option Ivan likes on his 690 is the Pirelli Scorpion XC Midhard . I just ordered tires today and am going to try a GoldenTyre GT216AA Fatty in front with a Midhard in back.
@@AwesomePlayers Nice, gives me a place to start. Let me know how the fatty / midhard works out as I keep hearing about those as well!
Do you have some grizzly in those forest ?
Chris only came on one big ride but it was a good one.
what's the suspension travel on ivan's 690? and how tall is ivan?
He has 300 mm.
@@AwesomePlayers it looks tall. how tall is ivan?
@@damytzeus 5’8” and a smidge
@@AwesomePlayers wow. that's impressive that he chooses to ride such a tall bike. who built the 300mm suspension for him. thank you for answering questions. i want to build 300mm suspension on my 690 enduro.

It must have been around somewhere.
Hi all. 🏍🇨🇦
Hey.... shouldn't you be getting your bike ready!
2021?
2020
Where is Chris and the mighty HP?!?
Chris didn't ride much but he did come on our big multi-day remote camping trip. It was fantastic.
What happened to Cousin Charles?!
He moved back to Saskatchewan! Still has a 1200GS.
Pitter Patter let’s get at her....
How are you now?
I know your history with Sena, at least what you once said, but isn't this a great opportunity to dump Sena and get Cardo packtalks instead? At least you could review it as a bunch. What worse can happen. It could be just as mediocre as Sena, or much better.
Problem is we have probably 10 units or more. Would be a big cost to all switch. On our subsequent rides the Sena update and the new Mesh 2.0 worked really well.
@@AwesomePlayers Yeah sure. Or support the falling economy in these trying times :P Btw, did it got waterproof finally?
@@compprufus Waterproofish.... we have always used ours rain or shine. I did have one die on a crazy wet ride but so did my GoPro in a waterproof case! It was replaced under warranty.
@@AwesomePlayers Ah, so it was somewhere else I heard they are not waterproof. Sorry
@@compprufus They only claim water resistance. They do seem to hold up pretty well.
Riley can you ask Marc which crash bars he has on the AT, TY ✌ and a Healthy and Happy New year to all the AWESOME Awesome Players
Happy 2021 to you. He ordered the outbackmotortek.com/
