      Thank you Billy! Yes, we have found about 6 or 7 Hi-lo’s now. All in the same vicinity. Multiple sites in on particular field. Hopefully we’ll stumble into some more over the years. It’s always a heck of a day finding something that old!

    You two did well in the fields. The Paleo is very nice! One thing that no one has commented is that the red blade has a dominate point on one side. I have seen several of those and everyone calls that point a scribe. Many relics like slate , bones and shell have artwork that is scratched with a tool like that.

    • @RSnyder-vx8li
      @RSnyder-vx8li 10 місяців тому +1

      Yes, I like the scribe point too. I think another term for those are "gravers" they are found often on paleo sites.

    Very nice paleo point. Looks like a Hilo point, but it has a twisted, warped blade like Holcomb/Crowfield points. I collect mostly in south-east michigan, but almost all my spots are now subs or strip malls😢 good hunting.

    • @artifactaddiction
      @artifactaddiction  10 місяців тому

      Thank you! Yes I agree it to be Hi-lo. It does have a significant bevel to it. Shame about your sites being turned into concrete. Unfortunately it’s a constant threat to sites all over. Appreciate you watching and commenting!

      @artifactaddiction thanks...yes I've seen development and no-till farming effect our most interesting hobby. I'm 55 years old and started collecting when I was 8yrs old. Found my first spearhead on my parents x-mas tree farm in Hillsdale County michigan.

    Nice point. We don't get many Hi-lo's this far south in the state, just Clovis, Quad, and an occasional Agate Basin, Dalton, or Beaver Lake. That piece does have the classic broad and short, wide at the center Hi-lo shape of the ones I've seen. I can also see how the flaking on it made you think MacCorkle. The base is not bifurcated enough to make me think MacCorkle, but I've seen a lot of them flaked just like that point. Lots of dang nice broken stuff too.

    • @artifactaddiction
      @artifactaddiction  Рік тому

      Thanks as always! Yes you’re definitely correct. My brain was saying MacCorkle, but I felt the same on the base. With the concave base and restricting waist, it kinda had that lobed appearance at first. Couple that with multiple bifurcated points I’ve found in the particular spot and my brain said MacCorkle. I’m certainly glad it’s a Hi-lo, because it adds to the 6-7 others we’ve found there over the years. This just happens to be the biggest and best made. Appreciate you watching! Hope you are having some good luck!

  • @meandmyshadow6269

    That first one was one of those surprise pulls. Gotta love that feeling! That point got upgraded from broken blade to complete bifurcate paleo in about 2 seconds! That one your wife pulled was amazing as well. That thing looked so thin that I think a strong gust of wind would have blown it away, lol. Incredibly well-made too. Grats on all the finds. Loved the little tea cup. Was that button rubber by chance?

    • @artifactaddiction
      @artifactaddiction  Рік тому +1

      Thanks for stopping by and checking out the latest vid! Yeah, that first piece went from dud to holy crap real quick! Finally getting some much needed rain here, so hopefully be able to walk some spots that are just waiting on me. Yes, that button was made of rubber. It actually has a strong rubber smell still as well. Do you ever find them?

    • @meandmyshadow6269
      @meandmyshadow6269 Рік тому

      @@artifactaddiction I think I've found a few rubber buttons over the years but never one that says Goodyear on it. That's actually kind of a neat find. Goodyear makes tires, if I'm not mistaking. Or at least nowadays they do. I wonder if back in the day if they made all kinds of products from rubber? I bet there's some cool research that could be done with that find.

    Nice find! I don't think you have this point type in your area, but it looks a lot like some of the San Patrice variants I've seen here in Texas before! I'm not personally familiar with "High-Low."
    Definitely looks like a late/transitional pale point to me! I'd bet money that it definitely isn't any later than Early Archaic. That is the kind of find that gets the blood flowing haha!

    • @artifactaddiction
      @artifactaddiction  Рік тому

      Thanks Max! It does have that San Patrice kinda look to it. Wish we had those up this way. Along with many other Texas types!!! Yeah, Hi-lo is a late Paleo type here in the Great Lakes region. The type site is very close to our home matter of fact. It is said they are the northern counter points to the Dalton people of the Midwest and South.

    How do you go about asking permission to search in farmed fields? We hope,to to search fields too but don’t know how to go about it….

    • @artifactaddiction
      @artifactaddiction  Рік тому +1

      Hello Amy, thanks for stopping by! After I locate an area that looks like it might have potential, I simply locate where the landowner lives, stop by and introduce myself. Tell them that you’re seeking permission to walk their field to look for arrowheads. Tell them you’ll respect the land and not leave any trash. Leave it better than you found it. It’s either going to be a Yes or No. If they say yes, thank them, ask where to park as to not be in the way, and I always like to ask if anyone’s ever walked it before and if they found stuff. Possibly where? Hope this helps. Good luck!!

      I do much the same when asking for permission to walk fields. I also show the landowner small lost pieces of farming implements that I've removed from other fields. Landowners will always appreciate a person who removes tractor tire hazards from there fields. Thanks everyone
