    Furusato no machi yakare
miyori no hone umeshi yaketsuchi ni.
    Ima wa shiroi hanasaku
    as yurusumaji genbaku o!
    Mitabi yurusumaji genbaku o
    warera no machimi!
    [Spoken Interlude]
In the place where our old home was destroyed
we buried the charred bones of our relatives.
Now the white flowers are blooming there.
We must never allow we must absolutely forbid another atom bomb to fall.
    [English Verse]
Deadly rain gathers poison from the sky
and the fish carry death in the depths of the sea.
Fishing boats are idle their owners are blind
deadly harvest of two Atom bombs.
And landsmen and seamen you must watch and take care
that the third Atom bomb never falls.
    [Japanese Verse]
    Furusato no machi yakare
miyori no hone umeshi yaketsuchi ni.
    Ima wa shiroi hanasaku
    as yurusumaji genbaku o!
    Mitabi yurusumaji genbaku o
    warera no machimi!

@@Chaudapeau You're right, he accidentally forgot to speak that line in English. He did sing the Japanese line, though: "Ima wa shiroi hana saku" (third line from the top). Hope that helps! (I'm from Nagasaki btw, so I feel very moved any time people from outside Japan sing or listen to our songs, and help in our campaign for nuclear disarmament.) 🗾☮🕊

Today is the 75th anniversary of the only attack by any power on a civilian population using the first atomic bomb. This was done by the U.S. to Hiroshima and 3 days later to Nagasaki.. This issue has fallen off the "radar" as has the climate crisis.Hundreds of thousands were killed and many more maimed. Pete honors us all and this song was instrumental in the U.S. and France ending nuclear testing though it took many years. We didn't know at the time that the effects would be so pervasive and last so long in the environment. We do now!

Have you seen the film *The Day After* (1983)? Our family just watched it together last night. We are originally from Nagasaki. The movie's story is told from the point of view of ordinary people living in Kansas and Missouri, when there is a sudden escalation from Cold War to a massive nuclear missiles exchange between the US and the Soviet Union. It was really scary, though not even as scary as what we've seen at the Atomic Museum in Nagasaki, and what our elders have told us about - the ABC censors cut out the most graphically horrifying parts of the film, as it was going to be broadcast on TV. But even then, it was so frightening that after watching this film, it moved Ronald Regan and Mikhail Gorbachev towards signing an anti-nuclear peace treaty in the late '80s! This film changed the world for the better, just for a while. But now we have Putin and Kim Jong Un, threatening to press the button on us all, and we are closer to World War 3 than ever before!!! We need a scary movie like that again - not this self-justifying Oppenheimer nonsense...
