Pete was a treasure. We were fortunate he lived so long after his persecutors were long dead, buried, and forgotten.

OMG you've got to love this guy...he couldn't be more in love with music and what he do. If you don't like it, at least you can contemplate art in high expression. Me? I couldn't be happier watching this, thanks for posting.

Pete was one hell of a folk singer, but more than that, he exemplified good citizenry. When the McCarthy hearings rolled 'round, he told HUAC everything except what they really wanted to know, which was anything about his political leanings. For his refusal to be more forthcoming, he did time for contempt of Congress. But hey, if that one had any real enforcement, we'd jail pretty much everybody, even most members of Congress, wouldn't we? And if he achieved any acclaim toward the end of his life, he didn't play on it. When the Iraq war came along, Pete protested by standing along side a road near his home with a sign that said "Honk if you're against the war". Never lost his good sense, did he?

Wow. As a millennial, watching this video is a very cathartic experience. It serves as an escape to a place in time that seems almost unimaginable given the current landscape of our country.

I'd like to think that in the lonely way out there places of the world, if the moon is just right, you can hear ol' Pete singing this tune.

Also in Melbourne at this time a young up and coming trad jazz singer by the name of Judith Durham had just started working with three talented lads who were looking for a female addition to their folk group. In 1964 they would take a working vacation to the UK, meet up with Tom Springfield and as they say....the rest is music history! jtk🍁

i'd like to think that on moonlit nights somewhere out there in the lonely wide open places of this world, just when you think you're alone, if you listen carefully you will hear Pete singing this song.

Love the song and Pete's version. This one is wonderful...I doubt anyone else could get an audience to yodel and sing harmony. It's Seeger at what he did best.

+OldFingerpickguitar In twentieth century Indian film industry, there was a person who was a lot better than him at yodeling, perhaps the best I've ever seen. Go search him up if you want to, his name is Kishore Kumar.

      Chorus:
Well it makes me laugh 😆
      And it makes me cry....
      Makes me smile when the
      hours drag by.....
      There’s nothing in this
      World can compare..........
Makes me wish I was in that seat....
Up front row, just a listenin’ to Pete.
What I would have given ....
      To just be there.
