I love that Less often talks about 3am... I'm a guide and teach basic survival classes. Have done a whack of trips and survival style outings. Sunsets are terrible. Sunrises are a gift. 3am is the worst. Really learned a lot about myself in those 3am moments.
It's great to hear you address Bear Grylls and his attempts at a show. Don't worry about critisizing him, he and his show deserve all the harsh critique that comes his way.
Dude I used to love watching bear grylls.. he would drink his own piss and eat random raw animals it was amazing😂😂😂😂😂 I mean do everything he does but opposite you know😂
Man Vs. Wild was an action sports show with occasional survival tips from a former special forces adventurer guy. How it got packaged and sold as a one stop shop for survival is a stroke of marketing and personality genius. Bear seems to be a genuinely decent man, but embraced the fantasy nature of survival shows a bit too hard. The guy had an episode where he was sprinting down a scree slope to save 2 hours on the trip off the mountain. Not exactly best survival practices for the average person.... Les has always been the real one, Edward Michael "Bear" Grylls looks up to him I'm sure.
Bear Grylls was always more flash than substance to me. Where Les's show seem more real and way more true to self survival. Maybe slow sometimes but that's the way it usually is out in the real world. And Les always did it on his own by himself which is way different than having a film crew following you around.
@@Sam-fb1nq not to mention that following Bear's advice could easily get inexperienced people killed. "Let's run down this skree slope to save time!" What could go wrong 🤦
Imitation is a form of flattery, be proud of what you did and the creativity you spawned. I would caution to be careful not to go down the path of negativity as we have enough of that in our day to day lives. Love your content Les and look forward to more of the positive vibes you always displayed in your videos.
"Georgia swamp" is probably my favorite episode, due to how familiar everything feels to me. The whole rattlesnake thing did always feel odd to me. Glad to know the story behind it.
I just want to say, it feels good to see Les sitting back in comfort. I don't know if he reads these, but he really helped me. when this show was on TV, I would watch it and "day dream". I finally made a choice to go explore and be resourceful in my own way. Thanks for your work Les.
I was 14, in a Science class where the teacher checked out and we watched videos all the time. Thank god she was very cool and let us decide. I learned more in that class than most of my science classes ever since. She showed us your first Georgia episode, and I was hooked ever since. Thanks for inspiring a lot of us Les.
Les is the real deal ! Been a fan since his show first aired , used to piss my mom off as a teenager starting fires I saw on the show in my kitchen sink (NYC) . Now I own my own land !! Still trying things I see Les do and they all work !
That was TOO awesome Les, about that rattlesnake story! That’s just a testament to your personal realness, how real you want to keep it, and how real it should be kept. I love it.
Yeah right. He wants me to believe he and Charlie found that rattle snake dead and he waited 5 days to cook and eat it after his shelter was built. How long do you think meat last without refrigeration?
it's so nice to find out that you're the one releasing this stuff on UA-cam and fantastic to get the behind the scenes with you as well. i loved this show when it was on air, watched it a lot as a teenager, seeing it again now just makes me very very happy. this episode in particular was always special because how close it is to the area i grew up in, it's just very familiar nature having grown up in the Scouts.
Les, The world would better place with more people like you. I wish I could find a doctor and therapist with the same excitement for being genuine and honest.
Les, I've always loved your show! You reminded me how my dad and I used to call Man vs Wild "Man vs Hotel" when I was a kid. Loved listening to your commentary on this episode and I salute you and your survival skills! Thanks for teaching us!
I remember when my family and a friend was watching Survivorman and my friend complained that Les didnt explored much (Desert episode, dont remember much) and stated how much he enjoyed Man Vs Wild more. Man Vs Wild is a good watch in my opinion, but only because it feels more like an adventure show than an survival show. I still think Survivorman is the better show though, good enough for me to buy each season besides the last three
Man vs Wild is not a good show because it tells you it is a survival show and then teaches you almost everything g wrong to survive. Bear Grilles is an absolute moron.
I've spent around 5 years collectively sleeping outdoors, mostly in the open, and I can attest I've never, EVER, needed a watch to know when it was 3am. Doesn't matter time of year it is, you know what time it is at 3am. The sun starts pushing air pressure and moisture from the darkness of the night bringing in those cold morning chills before sunrise. Unmistakable!
Thank you for creating an actual entertaining REALISTIC survival show and not something that requires military training to do. I started with bear grylls show and i just couldn't take that one seriously. Then I found survivorman and there hasn't been anything like it since. For anyone else that might be reading this - Watching this show alone, though it is helpful to know, will not make a survival situation remotely comfortable. I've gotten lost for 1 night with a few friends, but I only knew what to do and not much of how to do it. He said it multiple times but your kit and supplies makes a huge difference. Being thirsty was the most uncomfortable part of it. Now I always pack an extra 30-50% more water than I think I will need for the trip.
i love the music, the shots, the effort that goes into these, and I love the fact that you didnt back down on productions or what have you. you were right man, theres a lot of good shots to get that producers that dont survive, dont understand. watched you since I was younger and Im 32 now. Everything has its value. you rrock man
Les, I'm almost 30 now and I find it a little nostalgic to think back to the days of tube tvs and cable watching your show while sitting on a flowerplaid couch, here I am still watching you on a little screen I carry with me everywhere, a decade and a half or so later
I can't count how many times I've watched these early episodes Les, some of the best "reality" TV content ever, in my opinion. Glad you were able to fix the issue with these original shows showing up on your channel, I still love going back to them, even though I've seen them a million times. 😎
I was obsessed with survivorman growing up from the very first episode when you pioneered this concept and caused it’s immense popularity. Then the copy cat shows with NONE of the integrity, NONE of the heart, or realism. They were just Hollywood mockeries like bear grylls. Taking the quick and easy path, while you the Jedi master showed an entire generation how to do things the correct way, in and out of survival situations. And if you were a fan let me tell you, it was very apparent. Love The honesty Les, That’s your brand authenticity. Thank you Les, for everything you’ve done and these commentaries are fantastic. I hope you are able to do more episodes. Rewatching these with you hearing all the back story and details is incredible! You are an inspiration man seriously.
I haven't watched Survivorman for years, this episode brought me back to the good old days before life got so hard, this has been such a nostalgic experience. Now I want to watch the whole series again, I might just do that! Thanks Les for all the good times, my family and I always enjoyed your show.
Having grown up in FL and south GA this was always my favorite episode. I could literally smell the swamp and feel the temps change as the sun went down. I always wondered how many cottonmouths were near you that you never saw, they’re diabolical little bastards. Thx for sharing this!!
I have watched almost every bit of television put out by Les in his Survivorman series and it's iterations over the past years as well. Never thought he'd be watching an episode with us. This is awesome! Thanks man!
I love this fresh take on the old content. I would love to hear fresh directors cuts on more episodes. I've seen them all several times, and always wonder what is going through his head more. Keep up the good work!!
I used to watch all of the Survivorman episodes when i was a kid, and i was surprised at how much of the information and survival tactics that i still remember to this day. i have actually gotten to use a few of the skills i have learned such as firemaking, making shelter, and identifying edible plants (especially from the oregon episode, as its my home state). while i was never in any true danger or survival situations, it was very useful to experience it myself so i know exactly how to do things. I think it is truly important to not only take in as much information as possible, but to also utilize the skills you have learned so you have much more reliability. the survival information and tactics you taught through these shows is, in my opinion, the best survival tv show out there. others tend to overdramatize and spew misinformation.
Man I'm so glad I searched up survivalman on UA-cam. Makes me proud that you still own the rights to your show and out it on UA-cam for us because it IS a nature documentary, and tbh if I had a choice is have survivorman as my guide than man vs wild any day
Les I am so glad I found your channel here and I am glad your leveraging this avenue. Thanks for being a small part of my life for nearly 20 years. Always have loved your straightforward commentary and teaching. Thanks for putting this stuff out here for us.
Love this Les. Thanks. In the mid-80's I spent 10 days alone in the Pecos Wilderness in NM. It was late in the summer & starting to cool off and schools had started so the usual summer bunch were not anywhere around. I saw 3 people in 10 days. My 1st day I had not acclimated to the higher elevation and was carrying to much weight and with mostly uphill hiking I tired easily so I didn't hike but maybe 3 or 4 miles before deciding to camp. I camped up the hill from the trail around 100 yds and made no fire. The next morning, late morning, I saw a lone woman jogging, with no gear on her way out of the wilderness. She never saw me. A few days later I met a couple hiking and we just said hello in passing, no conversation.
I've got to tell you Les, I've never questioned your integrity and your commitment to the outdoor life and the tools and knowledge to be successful as a survivalist, adventurist, and a great all around guy! I've eaten a lot of different animals and I like snake, catfish, alligator, and frog 🐸 legs, etc.... You are wicked awesome Les! Especially love your Bigfoot series! I hope I can get your total video pack! I think I've seen them all at least once or more. Take care and be good to yourself! Much love to you! Keep up the amazing content!!!! ❤️😍

Always felt like I was along for the ride with you watching Survivorman growing up. We had all the channels when I was a teen but Survivorman was my genuine favorite show. It's been a lot of years, and I can say with the amount of time I've spent in the woods it's crazy how many of the things you taught me that I actually put to use. You gave me confidence where there would've been doubt. Priceless gift. Never met you, but you got a friend in me. Fan too!

Who knows how many lives you’ll have saved when it’s all said and done.
Les, I have always admired your work, and never doubted your project integrity. Yours is not the first story of drama injection by networks out there. Like neekid pictures, once you hand the footage over to someone else, you lose control over it. Keep up the good work.

Almost cant believe he has a house! 😂 Ive been watching survivor man since i was little, ive grown up wanting to do what u do Les. Not the film making aspect of it, but just being nomadic and full of information. Shelter building, fire starting, wild edibles, trapping, ect. For the last 4 years now ive been working in national parks just trying to get a taste of it. Survival is not a game, but id rather be trying to survive out there than in todays world. The citys and towns just make u sick, feeding u pills and programs to fend off the very sickness we all participate in. I love ur work man! Hope the family is great, and hope ur having a great day! Thank you for posting this Les! This is one of my favorite episodes. It really hits home for me.. I'm born, raised, and live in deep south Louisiana. Whenever we eat turtles that are caught wild, especially from still swamp water that isn't flowing, you have to take care. Clean him very good with fresh water. And you must cook the meat fully, through and through. When in doubt it's better to overcook them then undercook them. That's just my personal opinion with my own experiences as a cajun boy who grew up eating frog legs, gator, turtle, crawfish, gar, nutria etc.
47:32 - 48:38 is where Les nails what I always thought about the other survival shows of the time, at the time. At the same time, he nails why I was never able to get into those shows.

If Bear had come clean from the beginning, and marketed the show as a fun to watch adventure show instead of survival, he would have been fine.
"Let's run down this skree slope to save time!"
What could go wrong 🤦
Imitation is a form of flattery, be proud of what you did and the creativity you spawned. I would caution to be careful not to go down the path of negativity as we have enough of that in our day to day lives. Love your content Les and look forward to more of the positive vibes you always displayed in your videos.
"Georgia swamp" is probably my favorite episode, due to how familiar everything feels to me.
The whole rattlesnake thing did always feel odd to me. Glad to know the story behind it.
My son and I have camped all his life due to these shows. We never missed an episode. Thanks Les.
I was born and raised on that swamp! I have always loved this episode and hearing you talk about it present day is awesome to me!! Thank you sir!!!
I too am familiar with the area , I love this episode .
Born and raised on the Salkehatchie swamp, very much the same environment. I learned some new things from this episode.
Thanks for teaching us!
lol Man Vs Hotel is hilarious.
I still think Survivorman is the better show though, good enough for me to buy each season besides the last three
@@SonicChaocc "Man vs Hotel" is brilliant 🤣
I'm gonna steal that
Man vs Wild is not a good show because it tells you it is a survival show and then teaches you almost everything g wrong to survive. Bear Grilles is an absolute moron.
This is pretty dang cool for you to do this Les! Thanks!
Thanks Les.
You're generous with all the great ideas and wisdom you've shared over the years.
I am very grateful for all that knowledge.
The only real reality tv
I was obsessed with survivorman growing up from the very first episode when you pioneered this concept and caused it’s immense popularity. Then the copy cat shows with NONE of the integrity, NONE of the heart, or realism. They were just Hollywood mockeries like bear grylls. Taking the quick and easy path, while you the Jedi master showed an entire generation how to do things the correct way, in and out of survival situations. And if you were a fan let me tell you, it was very apparent. Love
The honesty Les, That’s your brand authenticity.
Thanks man!
you gotta love the integrity about Les, to admit that snake scene didnt happen like its shown is huge, amazing stuff n much love
There will only ever be one Les Stroud. Thanks for the years of entertainment & everything you do Les.
I loved your show growing up and I’m so glad you’re still here putting content out and sharing things with us. I’m so happy I found your channel.
I like Les... Hey put himself in ridiculous situations, he suffered and let everyone see it... And in so doing he taught about life, art and survival. Thanks Les. ✊🏿
Fan too!
One of the most genuine honest hard-working ⁰ individual sharing all his skills set on survivorman and here on UA-cam.😁
Loved this ‘behind the scenes’ commentary….more please Les 😉👍
Les I know hoards of fans probably tell you all the time, but thank you so much for everything. I cannot imagine my life being so much in the public domain like yours is and it must’ve been difficult in that regard at times. You’re seriously one of my heros. Who knows how many lives you’ll have saved when it’s all said and done.
Watching Les react to his own series is epic. No one can question his character or capabilities. This is phenomenal.
A gift from a local to help survive is nothing to be ashamed of. That full scene would not have ruined the show. Thanks for deliverying legend
Les, I have always admired your work, and never doubted your project integrity. Yours is not the first story of drama injection by networks out there. Like neekid pictures, once you hand the footage over to someone else, you lose control over it. Keep up the good work.
If you ever want to come to Florida and need a "common" man, let me know and I am down to join for a week. Been watching you for like 15 years now.... So happy you're putting your videos on UA-cam!
Loved this! Even more then the original airing. Thanks for the complete (i hope) honesty Les! Really looking forward to your wild foraging show!
I’VE MISSED YOU SO BAD!!!!! It’s so awesome to see you bring these episodes back and to get explanations of them!
I love when you do these commentating episodes. I remember watching the show when I was a young teenager. I would think to myself “what was he really thinking at that moment“ so thanks again for doing these.
Your a humble and beautiful hearted man, I must say your survival show is by far one of the best. I started watching your show right after Katrina, and your very show gave me hope, along with skills.
I would very much like to see a special on "Survival Shelters" from you. I have been a fan of yours since junior high. Thanks for all the risk you took to help others.
Always the most legit survival series of all time. This commentary is a testament to that.
Love this. So fun!! Thanks, Les!
Your sincerity in those episodes is what created the inspiration that kept me coming back again and again.
Honestly, I hold those episode close to my heart, lol ...as if I somehow, I shared the experience. Amazing!
This is one of my favorites.I still kick back and smoke a bowl and get lost in all his adventures till the point i feel like im there along side him.Awesome Cat O Les Stroud.
this was the first episode i saw as a kid, my dad was trying to show/explain to me what was going on but he wasnt as nice as les😂 ive seen every episode of every season since then, and when i have kids i will watch all of your videos with them!
Peace and love! - A Friend
I'm confident that you've saved many lives sharing your knowledge with us Les. Thank you so much!
I remember watching your show on TV when I was a kid. My interest in the outdoors started with you. Thank you Les!
I love that you do these. I really informs the experience and we all get more information about the places youve been to! Excellent content and I hope we continue to hear from you
I really enjoyed this. I remember watching this episode as a kid. My Dad and I loved the show and watched it throughout my childhood. I remember the bubble gum bobber and thought that was so cool. Survivorman was the real deal
Always loved your show and you take and outlook on nature, surviving and so on. It's really great to be able to watch this video and hear you discuss it as the same time. I love this!
I absolutely love when you expose grylls and the other fakes, they spread bad info that has probably gotten someone injured or killed, love your work, it's helped me out of a few jams.
I appreciate your honest approach while documenting your survival experience. I trust that the footage we see if exactly how it occurred in reality.
Love watching survivorman man with my dad. I greatly appreciate, Les Stroud keeping things as genuine as possible. I value truth more than drama anytime 😉👍
I’m so excited for this one. You hyped it up so much on your CR vid. Can’t wait to hear about the juicy details.
CR vid? What’s that? Please I was looking gif the hype but can’t find it lol thanks!
Yeah, elaborate please??
CR = Costa Rica
@@zCodeZero haha 😂 hey if that’s accurate it’s accurate Lol
I admire your honesty when it comes to television, and survival.
Your #1 Les stroud and you will always carry that when it comes to television survival...
Much respect to your inspiring life skills good sir. Ty for years of education, much love
Les I have been watching Survivorman since I was young. You are my spirit animal my friend. Thank you
I used to come home from school "early" to catch Survivorman. Thank you for being a great Canadian role model for perseverance. You rock Les!
I can't explain how thankful I am that Les is doing commentary videos of his Survivorman series.
10/10, A+++++, 5-stars.
Props on making the correction to the record about the rattlesnake.
You continue to inspire.
Wild Harvest sounds amazing. It's exactly the type of thing I love. I can't wait to check it out. Thank you SO SO much for putting it on your youtube channel!
Hey Les, you may never read this, but I thought I would write it to you anyway. All these years - loving your work in all areas, I will be honest with you. I used to think that you were always ragging on Bear Grylls and I took it like you were just being petty. But after listening to you explain the situation, I’m with you my man. I am sorry for feeling that way previously.
I am addicted to this series now every single episode. The Sasquatch series being my favorite
Can't wait Les !
Les is the only REAL SURVIVORMAN!!!!!!! Always has been, and always will be the best ever!!!!!!
Les, I love the directors cuts. The behind the scenes commentary is great! Thanks for showing us the removed scene and for sticking with your principles! Keep 'em coming! 🤘👍
This is so freakin awesome! I honestly cant think of any way to make Survivorman better than to sit with you Les and watch it together discussing it.Its something I have always wanted to do.Really brings a whole new life to these episodes.
