Whenever I talk to my friends about the show, I always say "I know it is real by the number of times he screws up, or that thing he tried didnt work." You'd never see Bear Grylls cut his finger! Or forget to string the trap and waste his bait! And that's not criticism of Les. I'm glad he shows it like it really is.
Listening to the commentary only adds to the reality we already know is Les as said by Joseph M and NativeWolf's comments. I was wondering what a Bear G commentary would look and sound like (cue Ozzy Man).
Les is undoubtedly a legend. Naked and Afraid is pretty good though, as far as mainstream stuff goes and actually, there are several survival channels on YT that are very good.
Ya know what would be cool.. If les combined his biggest two money makers into one new show.. he would travel to desolate wildernesses of his choosing.. and he would record himself while he has to survive WHILE... he's also hunting for evidence of bigfoot lol..
@@SurvivormanLesStroud Stop mentioning bear grylls EVERY single time you speak old man. Just because he made more money off of his show than you and it was much more popular, doesn't mean you have to talk about your infatuation for him every waking second bucko.
I remember when this episode first aired, I was 9-years-old at the time. This episode stuck a chord in me. It fueled countless day dreams wishing I could be on an remote island. I have spent hours and hours and hours in that jungle in Costa Rica. I'm still in awe of how you filmed it by yourself. I do much of the same and it is very difficult and takes a long time. Great filmmaking and great survival. Pura Vida.
Les. You’ve been a heart to me since I was 14(32 now) I’ve always appreciated you and what You’ve done. Unique, real and artistic. You’re no “Bear”, you’re a lion!
The appeal of the show for me was the rawness and the integrity of trying to make it as real as possible, while understanding the limitations inherent in that proposition.
Hell yea Les! This is one of my favorite episodes. Season 1 of Survivorman is my favorite season. You innovated so many techniques that everyone stole after that. Les pioneered everything in season 1. People still take those cues and ideas to this day. I've watched every episode of season 1 at least 20 times each. Probably more. Love your content Les!!!!! Have a great weekend brother.
This is as “real” as real can get. absolutely love this commentary series . It answers damn near every question I had watching these episodes years ago.
Your ability to shoot environments so accurately for the viewer is special and unique. I wish more nature documentaries were filmed in your style, rather than shooting open vistas of some unique view you include the shooting of small details and from different angles, really giving the viewer a sense of scale, the difficulty of the terrain, the harshness of the Sun, the cold, even how it feels to walk there. I'm an avid wanderer and mountaineer, and you have a unique way of capturing how it actually feels to be there to the senses. Thank you Les.
Talking about not liking to kill things, I totally understand. I've been hunting only a handful of times and each time it's been very stressful to finish off the animal, I always feel a twinge of guilt, "I didn't need to do this, someone else killed a cow a thousand miles away and I can eat that.." and I always felt bad. But I don't regret feeling bad, I think it's good to understand the weight of taking an animals life, it's not something you should do without thought or contemplation. Love your work Les, thanks for doing these commentaries!
Always remember though, that hunting your own food is the most organic and natural way to do it. You aren't contributing to unethical mass kill farms, and not contributing to deforestation caused by the livestock industry. I prefer to hunt one whitetail deer a year and have all the meat I need than buy anything from walmart. Venison is much healthier than beef too.

One thing I loved about the Survivorman series was how Les always made the show about nature and survival and not about himself. This is most evident in how often he just lets the sounds and sights of the natural environment "breathe" in the episodes.
I love this format Les. You do a great job of creating a real relaxed atmosphere of just a couple of old friends sitting down watching a enjoyable program and giving us an exclusive "behind the scenes". I originally started watching survivor Man, because I couldn't believe he did it all. All the survival ,all the filming. I watched , waited trying to catch the cameraman then I was hooked to the raw realness of this human beings survival while filming all of it day by day.👏👏👏👏👏
It's awesome to hear you explain all the arguments you had when it came to creating your show. The way you ended up doing things is a big part of what makes Survivorman so epic! I'm glad you went ahead with what you thought was right and made your own shown.
Les is 100% the best out of all these shows. 7 days solo in a jungle is brutal.. I love his recent interview where he got into some Bigfoot experiences. I think he held back thinking most people would get weirded out - wrong Mr. Stroud, we want to hear all of that stuff just as long you're not uncomfortable sharing. I started watching Survivorman when it first came out with my 5 year old who got as excited as me watching it and learning so many cool things ..now he's in 21 and we still talk about the show and how much we both bonded through the show and wish we could afford a trip together to an exotic location for a week...but this episode does not look like fun. I've no idea how he can do this alone.
I love these directors cut on all these Les. Through the years I love how transparent you are and how your knowledge and love for filming comes into play on everything you do. Been a fan since day 1. Keep it up buddy and happy holidays. MORE DIRECTORS CUTS!!! ✌
The only genuine survivor worth watching. Thank you Les.

I love this. Brings back good memories. Directors cut bring a very nice insight to the episodes. Plz continue to do them. Btw so glad u did things your way.
Ty Les.
I originally started watching survivor Man, because I couldn't believe he did it all. All the survival ,all the filming. I watched , waited trying to catch the cameraman then I was hooked to the raw realness of this human beings survival while filming all of it day by day.👏👏👏👏👏
Loving these commentaries! I binge your shows every few years and discovering your channel here has been wonderful - like a kid in a candy store 😄
It's awesome to hear you explain all the arguments you had when it came to creating your show. The way you ended up doing things is a big part of what makes Survivorman so epic! I'm glad you went ahead with what you thought was right and made your own shown.
these commentaries are awesome
Yes! Keep em coming les!
I always enjoyed watching survivorman
Love Survivorman!
I love these directors cut on all these Les. Through the years I love how transparent you are and how your knowledge and love for filming comes into play on everything you do. Been a fan since day 1. Keep it up buddy and happy holidays. MORE DIRECTORS CUTS!!! ✌
Good to see youre still kicking! I remember as a young child coming home from school and watching your shows, genuinely makes me feel old haha
