- Another awesome and fun Directors Commentary from yours truly. Working my way through season one of Survivorman the series was still a work in progress as I got my feet wet producing Survivorman. Arctic!!!
Directed By Les Stroud
Starring Les Stroud - Розваги
These commentaries make me feel like I’m watching my favorite show with my best friend. Thanks Les!!
And thats why I'm here. Watching bigfooy and this. Just wish there was more survivorman but this is so much better than having to re rewatch old episode. Thank you les for being you and doing what you do for us. Keep on giving us content. I will keep watching it. Your a legend
I love him calling out "canada goose clothing".
More people should know about it.
This man has a ton of integrity .
He held's up a true moral .
You need an excuse?
5u
Never need a reason it’s just what I do everyday I’ve seen them over and over lol it’s so good and not bear grills
I really like these commentaries, they give me a great excuse to rewatch survivorman.
Exactly, I love his take on it years later. Refresh
Hahaha!! Right! For like the 7th time!
Merry Christmas 🎅
Me as well!! Never gets old! Thanks so much Les
They’re highly informative. For an outdoor cat, full of great info.
Who needs a reason? (:
So happy that these commentaries are appearing more regularly. They're my favorite.
Thanks for continuing to make these!
Yes!! Please more!
My thoughts precisely :)
Agreed gonna watch everyone
Because I’ve had to use a power wheelchair my entire life outside of my home, I’ve never been able to get deep in the woods while camping or go on a long hike. Finding your show circa 2003 when I was 14 (born in June ‘89) COMPLETELY OPENED MY WORLD. I love absolutely everything you’ve done in your film career and my family and everyone I know loves your survivorman show!
Each time I watched your show it always felt like I was there with you. I’d always need a fan on when you’d go to the desert or jungle, and I’d always get a small blanket on my lap when things got cold. I love hearing about everything that went into these episodes that we don’t know about. I absolutely love all of these, they’re so good!!!
You’re a true inspiration Les, here’s to seeing more of you on UA-cam!
-Derek
That's awesome Derek! He helped me get through some tough times. Les is an inspiration
@@johnmillay6790 he’s really one of the very few down to earth good and decent human beings on television and he really is a hero of mine
@@KomradZX1989 yes! I'd love to attend one of his classes our outings sometime. Seems like a genuinely kind person with a good heart
Haha ur in a wheelchair 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
It's also cool because the technology has given you the opportunity to see the world in this type of perspective and as we advance eventually you'll be able to go out and do the things that he does with enough aid
Les Stroud sure has come a long way; and he only has gotten better
I'm eager for Les to do a director's commentary for the "Lost at Sea" episode.
I was just thinking about this the other day! Would love to see that
Yes please do it.
I've been gunning for that one for a long time...should be one of his best commentaries.
I would absolutely love to sea that. Seriously though probably one of the episodes I watch most.
Yes! I just watched that one a couple days ago! I feel like there wasn’t enough commentary on the storm, seemed like a very intense situation.
Holy shit this is amazing, so glad you're doing even more on UA-cam. I've learned so much from you and can't begin to say how much I appreciate everything you've done. Much love from the UK!
I was pleasantly surprised to find out he's on UA-cam
The authenticity of Survivorman made it iconic. Glad Les fought for it so hard. I had to have watched every episode several times as a kid and probably will watch each one several more times as an adult.
He bought a longer HDMI cable - yay!
Les Stroud, you are the Bob Ross of survival! Your shows will live on forever.
through the darkness that is anxiety and depression.. i find peace and calm being able to chill and watch these.. not only informative and entertaining.. its a way im able to cope and relax. you do more for me than you'll ever know. appreciate you
Les, brother, did you know your original Camillus knives are selling for almost $200 on eBay? So glad to see that the REAL Survivorman brand has real brand recognition. BG knives are still $50, and can get the exact same one that looks better for $20 cheaper brand new, lol.
You encouraged me to push past some “disabilities” and go outside, hike, and do so prepared and without feeling that I can’t take care of myself should the worst happen. Used the book, even the notes on your original knife, every episode and of course adapted it all to my own situations & area.
Again thanks for making this. Missed the live by one stinking hour. You are appreciated! Re-watching everything along with the Director’s cuts and watching some woods ones as I’ll be hiking in the Appalachian mountains soon.
I've always felt that Survivorman was made in a way that conveyed a very personal story, Les goes bush and takes the veiwers along for the ride.
The directors commentary makes it even more special, so thanks mate!
I was always fascinated with nature. You encouraged me to go out to experience it for myself, like hiking, backcountry camping and photography. I am in awe before nature’s beauty and ruggedness. I thank you Les for bringing us Survivorman and making all you content available. Cheers from Ottawa!
Gotta love Les making these things free for us.
Always looked like a stand up guy
Wow 20th anniversary.... I remember when man vs wild came out and i thought it was hoax bevuase he had a camera crew with him. I'm 25! That means ive been watching Les's production literally from childhood. Man thats an eye opener, and Les really helped shape the way I veiwed the outdoors growing up and for that in glad. Thank you Les, you've been one of my role models for years and I'm loving every second of these directors commentaries. Keep em coming
All these survival shows now a days will never come close to the brilliance of survivorman you can tell how they are all faked and scripted no survival show will ever compete with the actual reality and TRUE survival knowledge of survivorman so just wanted to say thanks Les you are the reason why I got so interested in the outdoors and survival. I hope you and your family have a Merry Christmas Les God bless
There ain't many people in this world to respect and admire. One may agree or disagree with Les, but nobody will deny that Les is a hard-working man who deserves much respect for what he's done and continues to do! Big thanks and a lot of respect from Russia!
Watching these directors commentary’s is absolutely one of my favorite things! It’s like hanging out with you Les!
Les did not let us down, he walked us through our childhood with amazing content and here we are as grown ups and he's still around, still as awesome, funny and amazing.
Lots of love Les!
Thank you.
Les, you have always been one of my most admired heroes growing up. Seeing these Directors Commentary videos is just so fulfilling for me. Thank you for being an amazing role model, a revolutionary artist in film, and an all-around badass. Godspeed on your adventures, and always keep us posted!
@Survivorman your show from day one was always about real survival, man vs wild was always rushed and
every scenario was a set up to the point that we could always tell the show was fake.
Thank you for all your hard work and dedication, you are a huge inspiration to many of us.
Why complain,? The GOAT is exposing the behind scenes? It is amazing. He is providing accurate feedback. Also, he is not sleeping in a hotel like his coat hangers are. Les is authentic and is willing to explain the exoctic truth. I enjoy your transparent dialogue. This man survives... films...lives.... and encourages. You are the GOAT.
I love how there’s no sugar coating, just facts, no doing things JUST to do them or manufacturing tension or situations, just a man surviving. For eme it all the little things that makes the show great, like using oil under the eyes to help with snow blindness. Les you are goated
*for me it’s
* "goated"?
An expression, he is on goat levels (greatest of all time is always heavily debated) so saying “goated “ puts him in that conversation/debated.
I Just made my wife swear if anything ever happens to me that our unborn son will grow up watching/practicing what you teach. Thank you for doing what you do Sir.
I absolutely love these director's commentary
Me too
Thank you so much for putting your foot down on the 9 day thing! It's your honesty and authenticity that makes you and the show great!
Longtime fan of the show. Really enjoying these director’s commentaries. It’s like we are there watching the episodes with you.
Thanks Les!
Considering the amount of comments that most of your videos recieve I'm going to guess that you don't read these, but in the off chance that you do I want to thank you for dedicating your life to teaching the world about survival. Down to the smallest detail in your shows, the passion you have for your craft is so inspiring. I'm sure you know this but I'm going to remind you that you have saved sooooo many lives, mine included. Without the knowledge I've obtained from watching your shows I surely would have been dead several times over. I won't get into the story of my survival but I just wanted to take a moment to write this and say thank you Les, thank you for everything you've done for everyone and I'm very happy that you have now started to recognize that we have a primate living in the forests around the world. It's unfortunate the stigma linked to believing that these things exist but considering what you do for the people, showing the masses that there is a really good chance that there is a Apex predator in the woods has probably save countless more lives. You deserve so much more recognition for the sacrifices you have made to help educate all of us and prepare us for almost everything we could stumble across in survival situations including the unknown. You are a good man Les and I hope you that more people show their appreciation for you because without you I'd be dead, and I'm sure thousands of others would be as well. Thank you again...
"You Sweat, You Die!" 🥶I'm sure this phrase has saved many lives
My favorite day drinking game is to drink every time Les pauses to tell me, nearly personally, how to help myself in a survival situation.
Les, you absolutely rock! Thanks for all of these directors coms my brotha
Dan
I can’t believe you don’t have millions of subscribers by now.
You have always been my favorite survivor show. And you’ve always done great work Les. Keep it up.
Director Commentary’s are my favorite survival man videos on lunch break at work
700k subs in 2023 with full rights to the show. So awesome. I think continuing it this way on this platform is gonna be something you'll never regret. Been a fan since I was a kid!
Thank you so much for these! You are, to survival, what Levar Burton was to reading and Mister Rogers was to being a human.
Les is in the league of Mr. Rogers and Bob Ross in terms of wholesomeness. Love these commentaries, it always cheers me up hearing your stories - it's like listening to an old friend.
Oh man i love this episode! I pretty much grew up on survivorman. I'm pretty sure this was the first episode i've ever watched. Spent my recess playing survivorman with my best friend at school. A few questions
- Are you planning on doing a season 2 for Bigfoot?
- What is your favorite type of environment to shoot survival films? Tundra, Arctic, Jungles, Desserts, Temperate forests?
- Which episode did you hate filming the most?
- Why is Tim Horton's French Vanilla so garbage these days??? Please tell me I'm not the only one who thinks the quality has dropped.
Yes....Jungles...none - but the Deserts were least favourite .....they have always been garbage - your tastebuds are maturing :-)
Season 1 is so comforting. It has the best music, and it has this ethereal, analog vibe that's hard to explain, but for me, it provides a nostalgiac comfort owing to its no-frills production and sincerity. It was ahead of its time and totally unique. If I'm ever in need of comfort, I watch season 1 Survivorman. It's like a warm, familiar blanket.
I agree. The music and sound is so good.
I really enjoy these commentaries. Les is a very honest, funny, likable, and genuine person.
That dead junker bike you talk about sacrificing from the Arizona episode was a Honda trail bike and it is legendary. I've yarded firewood with a ct90.
Time for the popcorn
I look forward to these director commentaries so much! I love hearing all the behind the scene things that happen. When I go back and watch the original episodes, I look at them differently and appreciate them even more.
okay. first off. as a kid growing up in Newfoundland. i remember watching this ep and screaming out HE SAID NEWFOUNDLAND ON TV ... back then we were not atlked about much anywhere lol second off i remember that show coming out after seeing this show and thinking to myself... why is he copying les... survivorman is a better show... and to this day i still love your content more then any other show. you were a big thing to me growing up Les. i apppreciate you and the work you have done. thank you. please keep these director commentarys coming. i love remembering the ep's and little things like that.
I love these directors commentaries! My favorite!
These are my absolute favorite videos on UA-cam. The commentary adds so much that I was lacking when I watched these 15+ years ago. Thanks Les!
I love these director commentary’s.. please keep them going!!
Best Christmas present ever!
After watching this the first time, I still tell myself "You sweat, you die," just when I'm out shoveling snow in the driveway.
🤜🤛👍👍❤️👍❤️ extra loving the big 🦶 episode. And these commentaries 👍👍🤜🤛
It takes a humble man to reexamine previous works for the world to see when we clearly enjoyed your work the first time. I wouldn't ever think that you would second-guess your accomplishments. It's thoroughly enjoyable.
Hi Les. I’ve been a fan of Survivorman for many years. I wanted to say thank you for making all of your content free to watch on UA-cam. Thank you for sharing your stories and adventures with us all.
My all time favorite episode. I laugh every time when I see you abruptly stop playing your harmonica when you realize polar bears could be attracted to it
I can highly recommend Wild Outside! My kids love it and it encourages great family-time with plenty of opportunities to teach or just enjoy being outdoors together.
Les, thanks! For the book and for helping keep me sane with this channel through all the seeming madness these last two years.
This was my first introduction to the show, caught it on the Science channel back around 2006. I’ve been a fan ever since, but this one remains my favorite
Grew up watching Survivorman and I’m still a fan! I re-discovered your UA-cam Channel a few weeks ago and I absolutely LOVE these director commentary episodes! It is near-impossible to get me to sit and watch other hour-long videos, however, I’ve happily watched every single director’s commentary so far! These are so engaging, enlightening, and a lot of fun. Thank you for everything you do, Les. You’ve ignited our appreciation for nature and provide us critical examples of how to survive.
My guy, please make more of these. Lets go bro.
I used to watch your shows with my dad when I was a kid, and having just now found your commentaries, I’m reliving those moments. We always appreciated the authenticity in the way you presented your experiences. You made other survival hosts look like cheap imitations (which they were). Thank you for making these commentaries.
Stop complaining please. It's A DIRECTORS COMMENTARY! Which means the director gives commentary on the filming and the awesome behind the scenes. I love these
The shapes a survivor man fan as well awesome
I love seeing the editing/video techniques go from that overly used TV show style to the now iconic & immersive style as Les gets more and more creative control over how he tells the story and uses the cameras. The editors really must've worked hard along with les to fulfill that vision, it's decades of TV evolution in one series!
These directors commentaries are great. I love hearing about all the extra stuff going on behind the scenes.
I don't see how anyone can complain about a beautiful gift like this. Thank you
Make more BIGFOOT EPISODES!!!!!
I like these commentaries because they show how proud of his work Les is,And rightfully so!
Thank you for this!
Cheers!
I'm proud to be able to see such an awesome individual in my lifetime. what a crazy and brave man!! The GOAT of survivors
The "you sweat you die" runs through my mind every time Im outdoors and end up sweating. Every time. Attaching a idea to the real threat of death is a great way to remember it. Probably.
Survivorman has taught me that survival is about staying active, keeping things simple, and remaining positive. It’s not a sensational or exiting experience. It’s stark, simple and harsh. But above all else, it’s survivable with the right skills and mentality.
Watching the commentaries make me want to watch every episode all over again.....for the 3rd time lol. Thank you Les.
How does this LEGEND not even have 1 million subscribers? The human race needs to step up.
I really enjoy these director's commentaries, very relaxed and humble approach to it all
I feel I’m blessed to have had you and your amazing show(s) in mine and my children’s lives for the past 20 plus years. Nothing comes close to the quality of your content. Thanks Les!
Kind regards,
Les
how perfect! i get to enjoy this DIRECTOR'S CUT COMMENTARY around the time (later year) you uploaded this video!!!
Love these! I hope you eventually do every single episode! Thanks Les, you’re the man.
Thats my plan
I love the shows, but the commentary makes me feel like I'm in your living room watching these with you! Thank you Les!
Growing up and watching all the survivor type series I always knew Survivorman was the most authentic/realistic out of all of them and this commentary confirms it.
I have three main mentors in life, first is my hs rugby coach. He was a professional Us team player, got cancer and now is a fire fighter after beating cancer. Second is David David goggins. He taught me a lot about mastering my mind and how to achieve anything. Les you are number 3. I learned so much about nature and your whole philosophy. Thank you for everything you do
I love these Director's Commentary cut with Les. Cause it gives us an insight into what is going from the Godfather himself. Really cool.
This is a huge gift. Les should have millions of subscribers. Don’t watch and not click the button.
Honestly what I love about Les is you never feel like he is showing off. Just a guy who is passionate about survival and making sure we as the audience get the best education we can. Hats off to you Les, you are the reason I stay prepared
Can’t tell you how happy I am to have found these commentaries. I used to watch Survivorman with my mom as a kid, and have come back and watched the whole series over again every couple years since then.
Really cool to have a fresh perspective from the man himself on this show that was such an important part of my childhood
Thanks for these, Les. I love seeing them again, and the new commentary is as fascinating as it is enlightening, often answering questions that were in my mind when the shows originally aired. Mad respect for everything you've done, and I hope you can keep the Directors Commentary editions coming. Fantastic work!
love these directors commentaries. please do more, especially for the bigfoot series
Love this show! Thanks for sharing.
Les seems like a genuinely nice bloke. Watched for 20 years. Always loved how raw it was. Survival series done right. To hell with all this pretend bullshit we're fed these days in the name of "entertainment". A true OG. Cheers to Les.
I got hooked on Survivorman in the sixth grade, here I am as a second year in college, watching the man himself go over every single one of the episodes. Incredible, these are awesome, you are awesome. Thank you
Love the commentary's Les. Thanks for putting out all this content for us! I love it!!!
Absolutely love hearing your commentary on these episodes. I have watched since the beginning and purchased every episode before the bundles even came out. I grew up learning survival basics, such as starting a fire by "rubbing two sticks together." I hope to encourage my kids to enjoy the outdoors and share the skills I've learned from not only my own experiences, but those I've learned from you as well. When they are old enough.
What an amazing show, and the commentaries just make it that much better. Love how transparent he is/ was in making these episodes.
original, entertaining, brutally honest, genuine one of a kind...BRILLIANT!!
I cannot believe that Phony stole your glory! Let it be well known! How shady is Discovery Channel! Wow! Thank you so much for bringing these back and making these commentaries! Keep them coming please !
This is one of the first episodes I saw when I was little and the nostalgia is flooding back watching this again. My appreciation for the outdoors started with watching Survivorman and going out into the woods and trying some basic things that I saw.
The only thing better than watching Survivorman is watching is with Les!
I remember being young and watching Survivorman and Man vs Wild with my buddies. I always knew how much more real Survivorman was in comparison from the beginning. You’re the real deal Les✊
Hi from Syracuse NY brother and thank you for sharing your thoughts and adventures
I have been watching you for years and have always been so proud you’re a fellow Canadian. Hope You Tube is treating you well as so many of us are so grateful you have your content here for all of us to re-visit the original series and watch your more recent stuff too. Keep it up Les!
Les I freaking love these videos so awesome how you really break everything down ton of bts so awesome
As you said, I always liked hearing you reference the crew going back for stuff b/c it made it more authentic and reassured me that you weren't leaving crap all over the wilderness for the sake of a show.
Watched all the episodes on repeat as a boy before vlogging was a thing, unwittingly drawing inspiration. Now, making a living vlogging camping trips, I enjoy your perspective on these director's commentaries so much and draw new inspiration. Love how you stuck to your guns about not making up a story about it being nine days. Says a lot for someone in show biz. Cheers from the mother province
Les, I would like to thank you to the fullest extent for many reasons. You have helped me in gaining a knowledge of whom I am as a person and father and scout leader. 23 years as a scout leader and many of them taught the youth some survival skills that they remind me of years later. Your show was on the same nights that our meetings were and so we would watch your show and have a discussion afterwards. Once per month we went to our camp and camped in some never used areas. Not a true survival situation but what they learned, they utilized. Thanks again.
Hi Les, a fan from Poland here. I remember watching your show as a teenager and I can't express enough how big of an inspiration it was to me. I've always loved nature, hiking alone in the mountains, biking, kayaking - anything just to get as far away from civilization as possible. Your adventures made me realize what's possible, encouraged me to go out of my comfort zone, taught me to keep calm when lost or disoriented.
It feels really good finding your youtube channel 15 later and seeing you doing well, relaxing on the couch, reminiscing....
Les may be a Canadian hippie.
But he is one of the most genuine people and most public outdoorsman spokesman of our time.
I started with Marty Stouffer, but Les is the man. He retains his dignity.
