    To be fair, I am not the target audience for this product. If you are, and were excited about this product when you came to this video then I suggest you do check it out deeper, because if you think it will help you get into mindfulness and make your life better AND you are willing to do the work, it might change your life. It was too much work for me at this moment in my life, but it might be exactly what you need right now.

      I got an older Muse headband (not the one you have) many years back after failed attempts to meditate without neurofeedback. The instant feedback was a game changer. What you mentioned about finding your way to get the bird sounds is exactly what I needed to practice, working the "muscle" that helps my brain from wondering and stay focus. There's a learning curve just like riding a bicycle or slacklining, it's not fun until you get a hang of it.
      So for me, meditating without neurofeedback is like exercising without measuring your heart rate. Sure it feels better than not exercising at all but don't really know if you're actually getting physically better. I don't think Muse is the perfect solution but getting instant neurofeedback is key to my meditation journey.

    I agree on your point with the sounds. When they are too loud, it is really distracting and hearing the birds also make me lose focus as well.
    But one side note: Do you always wear the muse like you did in the video clips? Because the two sensors on the sides of the band (white strips) are supposed to be behind the ear, not sure if you are aware of that. Sometimes you even wore it the wrong way around (5:40) The lack of sensor connectivity might be the reason for your distorted brain wave measuring.

      I'm glad I wasn't the only one to feel that way about the birds. When I first heard about it it sounded great but then after using it, like you said it ended up being just kind of distracting.
      And good catch about wearing the headband... for actual sessions where I used it and I wasn't recording with my camera I made sure to wear it correctly. The b-roll headshot at the beach has my daughter wearing it upside down like you mentioned... But I'm pretty confident that I had it on properly during actual use. Do you still use yours? Did you try the premium software package or find any extra benefit from that?

    Fun video. I also enjoy meditation asisstance, but VERY minimal. Like a few voice prompts total in a 20m session. Background noise can be helpful, but minimal. Your play-by-play of getting frustrated with the gamification is exactly how I would react to this, I think.

      I'm with you... it was a fun thing to try but after a couple times it sort of lost it for me. What do you use for meditation assistance, a particular app or?

      @@TheSAHDLife I've used a ton of stuff. Buddihfy, headspace back in the day. Now I use Aple FItness + meditation, they're nice since they are generally non-invasive, just gentle prompts at the 10m mark of 20m session. I also use Waking Up, the Sam Harris app, which I bough a lifetime subscription too. Love the app in general. The biggest game changer for me has been Othership, which is a guided breathe program, without overstating it. Othership has been life changing. Like you said, I don't need devices to to practice, but something as a timer and sometimes some background sounds or a prompt is useful.

    Interesting take, I think it's not for me either, I was curious though :) - how's your meditation practice going?

    • @TheSAHDLife
      @TheSAHDLife  2 місяці тому +1

      To be honest, I don't have a good practice going. I'm half-ass reading a meditation book by Barry Long which, I actually really like his style, but I've just had NO time to really comprehend the teachings and apply it to my life. I usually listen to Michael Singer podcasts/talks before bed and those help bring some calm and inner peace to help me fall asleep. I have some tools that I often forget through the day when I get stressed... my big stressors, and this is kind of embarrassing, is noise from the neighbours. It brings me panic where it shouldn't... and right now he's building a deck so all day when I'm trying to write/edit it's just bang bang bang lol. I'm working on it. My thoughts tell me it's frustrating we moved to a big beautiful corner house in a quiet retired neighbourhood and the one neighbour we got is the only one who likes to crank the music and work on his house all day.
      How you doing with it?

      @@TheSAHDLife There's a great book Waking Up by Sam Harris, I really enjoyed the book but also really struggling to make it a daily practice! - the best thing I did was take a 5 day meditation retreat was quite transformative for months, but the effects eventually faded. Need to book another one!

      @@DigiDriftZone Sorry, this comment got buried. I've heard good things about Sam Harris. I used his app for awhile but never read the book. You think it's still worth it today? It's not too dated or anything?
      My practice doesn't get much love. How did you find the retreat, through friends or did you just find it online? I'd love to do one... tough with a young family though 🤣

    • @DigiDriftZone

      @@TheSAHDLife The book is definitely not out of date, I think really worth it as it takes a secular approach to this which I appreciate with a lot of stuff out there taking more of a religious approach.
      I found a local group meditation at the Buddhist centre which is open to anyone and they had a flyer there for the retreat, I'm trying to find space in the calendar to book one, I feel like need it! :)

    I like the idea but I also feel like the changing sounds would throw me off. And micro usb is unacceptable in this day especially at that price

    • @TheSAHDLife
      @TheSAHDLife  4 місяці тому +2

      Right?! I felt the same way. Interesting concept but unfortunately the price point isn't quite there. If it was $100 it would be a different story, but it's not.

    That thing is too gimmicky for my taste. Many years ago I was taught to visualize my breath flowing in and out, and when a thought came in to just let it flow through rather than try to block it. More recently I learned mindfulness meditation, and the technique is the same when thoughts pop up.

    • @TheSAHDLife
      @TheSAHDLife  4 місяці тому +1

      It was fun to play around but I'm with you. When you say you more recently learned about mindfulness, did you read a particular book or watch something/someone? I'm always curious about what other people are learning about. I need something new to read/learn! Sometimes it's hard to find new things on your own.
