It's kind of cool slowed down just a bit. Listening to each part of the band just a tad more clearly really makes me appreciate each member more.
I was not able to vibe to it for the same reason ! something was off from the start !
Thank you for this, I didn’t realize it. I know this song on guitar so I play my guitar to the song as he plays the song. When playing to this one I couldn’t figure out why my guitar sounded out of tune but wasn’t. 😅
You absolutely need to do Parabol and Parabola. Two separate tracks off the Lateralus album but you have to listen to them both together. Spiral Out Hef!! Cheers!

TOOL is what Pink Floyd would be if in the modern day. I think TOOL carried that creative prog rock and PF would be very proud for their sound and creative music. Both are amazingly out there and both pushing complete boundaries in their sound.
I've been loving TOOL for 30+ years ... It just doesn't get old.

Crazy it's been that long. The weird thing is the only real songs that are touch dated are the ones on Opiate. Not saying they aren't still awesome :), they are. But you could release undertow now and it wouldn't feel out of place. The mark of good, no GREAT musicians.

I discovered Tool thanks to Vicarious while it was playing on the radio around 3 a.m. and I was going through a pretty shitty moment. This one holds a very special place in my heart, it fucking blew my mind.

Definitely something wrong with the playback speed on this one...which is a shame, because this song absolutely SLAPS. When I retire from TV, I'm going to get the TOOL eye logo in an old school TV set, with the words "vampire, warrior, carnivore, voyeur" encircling it as a tattoo.

3 seconds in I could hear it too. I play drums covering tool songs and you can't mistake the tempo.
This song was my introduction to TOOL and to this day still my favorite by them. So much going on and the lyrics are incredibly accurate and deep, especially all these years later.
Absolutely one of my favorite groups. Each member plays their part flawlessly alone, but somehow come together as a greater whole to amazing effect.
This whole album slaps HARD. If you liked the themes of this song, you'll love Right in Two, which I'm sure you'll get to/react to, it's too good to miss

As far as this Tool song is concerned, I've been a fan of this band since it's inception pretty much and Vicarious is one of my absolute favorites from them! Tool as a band to me through the years have evolved into a band that makes you want to go back and listen to them from the 1st album through their newest release. feel better Alex! FYI, the comments about this being slowed down are highly accurate. Its pitch-shifted down and slowed by about 15-30bpm (roughly - I didn't do an actual analysis)

This version sounds slightly slowed and pitch shifted down a little or something. Next time you do a Tool song, you should do the audio version posted to the bands UA-cam page, that way you don't accidentally end up with a janky version :)

Oh, and the original album cover was interactive. It has a set of glasses that you can view pictures in puzzles with. Back at a time when those visual puzzles you had to cross your eyes to see were such a big deal. Just one more reason to love Tool!

Loving this series mate I'm going to see Tool Live in May next year I cant wait. I think you should react to Pneuma either Danny Carey's drum cam or the official audio both are phenomenal.
Tool opens you up to your "self" and its many, many faces. Learning to be at peace with all of them and, thus, your true spirit's able to emerge fully, without so many internal hinderances blocking or caging our "selves". Being able to master all our faces is an ongong challenge. Accepting that also greatly assists in re-awakening to truth and self. I am.
This album has like "clusters" of songs that share a common thematic background.
Vicarious, Jambi, and Right in Two have these themes of exploring human nature, why do we need suffering, why do we need to want, why do we need to fight each other for resources when there's plenty to go around for everyone? etc. Those also tie in to the tribal thing you were mentioning.
There's a couple times that Danny Carey with his interdimensional limbs mixes his drumming with his custom trigger-rigged drum that plays different sounds based on what part of the drum you hit, and he has it rigged to play like these tablas or bongos, I don't know exactly what instrument but he does these hypnotizing tribal rhythms that just slap.
This is the album that got me personally into Tool. Lateralus is that for most people though, so you should check it out!
The alarm clock part of this song used to be my alarm to wake up in the morning lol

The behavioral implications of the human experience throughout history prove that people are fascinated by death and the eternal struggle to survive. Rome built coliseums to watch gladiators fight to the death, and in our everyday commute through traffic people rubber-neck to gaze at an accident...the cycle is timeless! Btw, Don Hendley's song DIRTY LAUNDRY explores this phenomenon as well.
