Special thanks:
The Band for making this awesome music
Every one of you guys watching this now
I love yall! :)
reaction prog tool reaction metal reaction alex hefner #tool #pneuma #reaction
The cool thing is that that nervous feeling doesn’t ever go away with TOOL. Their music is so powerful that even on the 100th listen you still need to prepare for what you’re about to go through lol
Facts
They truly are audible Dimethyltryptamine
Wings part 2 gets me man... every single time.
Thanx for coming
I was actually scared to press play on fear innoculum lol
The drum cam footage of Danny playing it will blow your fucking skull to pieces
Absolutely fucking LEGENDARY 🤘
Facts
Truth....Fkn incredible. I've watched every reaction there is on it. Just gets better!
Danny's performance on the live 'Drum Cam' version leaves nothing on the table!
The best video in youtube
I agree with everyone, the live drum cam of this is gonna make your eyes melt, and your brain will blow up, did with me, i nearly cried it's so good
He hasn't watched it yet? 🥁 🪘 👀
Obviously.
Needs to do it next to follow this one
Good cam but there's better.... The grudge, for example. That drum cam is nuts
Totally should have, but this way he can focus on the song.
You are correct. Tool like Pink Floyd, are Artists, in every sense of the word.
I don't like Pink Floyd personally, but their music is like poetry, and I have the utmost respect for them.
My favorite two bands. Saw PF on the pulse tour, Tool on their LTLR tour, RW on In the Flesh and The Wall tour.
I can’t wait for you to watch the drum cam and react to it, ITS GOING TO BLOW YOUR MIND 🤩🤩
I always love your reactions because you are not only transparent but you really analyze everything and it’s a testament to you and how far you have come since you started reacting to rock and metal music
YES! And have you seen the music teacher breaking the song down as Danny plays? The way he slows it down and speeds the drumming back up? It is crazy!!!! And to think what else is brewing in that mind of his we havent heard yet.
up up
I agree with so many people: listen and watch the drum cam-version! It’s so emotional in so many ways! And Danny Carey is so sexy - he makes it psychologically and physically so attractive and sexy (yes I was always into „crazy“ dudes 😜🤣)
💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯
THIS!! actually seeing him do it is otherworldly. Come on alex!!!
When you watch the drums cam version you will find yourself having another first time experience. A totally different experience for the musical soul.
Alex,.im sure many others will say it.
The Danny Carey drum cam video if pnuma live..
Then you know why he's is probably the greatest drummer on earth right now.🤘
Now that Neil Peart is no longer with us, Danny Carey is easily the great drummer alive on earth ATM
That final guitar melody refrain is literally one of the finest moments ever performed on guitar.
Man it gives me goosebumps every time. I thought I was the only one who is blown away by that
Also you nailed it. Maynard said they named the band TOOL so that the music can be a tool for whatever you need it to be at that time. Which is why most of their songs he won’t admit the actual meaning of them.
Tool is definitely the Pink Floyd/rush of our generation, such a phenomenal once in a generation band! Can't for you to deep dive more!
This is one of those tracks that is just like... "Headphones turned on, world turned off."
“Invincible” would be a good one to react to, that song is my favourite from this album, tool as a whole is amazing, loving your reactions
That and descending for me
Invincible is top 5 all time for me.
One foot nailed down to me metaphorically represents the spirit being tethered to the earth through the physical body, boud to reach out and beyond meaning we are constantly searching for the spiritual connection.
I love with TOOL they can use the same Chord Progression they've used in previous songs and the songs can still sound so different. That's how you can tell they are Masters at their craft.
The drumming is out of this world… totally insane! These guys are the Einstein/Da Vinci/Tesla from rock! So much genius gathered in one band…
THIS ALBUM IS A FUCKING MASTERPIECE. ONE OF THE GREATEST ALBUMS IVE EVER HEARD. HANDS FUCKING DOWN. Love the reaction man and love your interpretation of it. Keep em coming
This album is a life changer
It really opens your mind to different sounds and how they are used. I just close my eyes and listen and get lost in this world of soul searching i guess you could say. Fucking amazing. Tool is a step above all other bands.
🖤🤘🏽
In my lifetime I can only think of four albums that I've listened to on a loop for months on end. Pink Floyd The Wall, Queensryche Operation Mindcrime, 10,00 Days and Fear Inoculum. Oddly enough each of these were released around a decade apart. Hoping I don't have to wait another decade for another loop worthy album.
This is a work of a lifetime. This song and 7empest are the sum of everything they had to grow to be where they are. Now you know why they took 13 to release a new album. It is so fucking deep that you need to listen many times to pickup every nuance. Thanks good for that !!
Tool: The Grudge. One of their Best.
I agree. The Grudge is a masterpiece
So now it's Time to fucking react to Danny playing this Live. Fuckin' Legendary 🤘😭
DRUM CAM VERSION NEXT 😈
🤘❤🇨🇦
It seems like this isn't a popular opinion/choice, but my favorite reaction to Tool is Lost Keys/Rosetta Stoned. Perhaps its a little different than most other Tool songs, tells more of a story rather than teaching a lesson. But its a phenomenal song, would truly love to see you do the reaction if you have not ever heard before. Just make sure you do Lost Keys into Rosetta Stoned, not just Rosetta Stoned for the full experience.
Side Note: Love your channel and your reactions. always a good time here! P&L
Too early in his journey my friend... he should go with Ticks and Leeches or "The Holy Trinity" next to get a sense of Danny's jazz drumming background and style as well as hear angry Maynard and/or the softer side of Maynard.
Need to add Lipan Conjuring at the start as a trilogy.
This comment made my day brother! Stoked you’re enjoying the reactions!
@@cb4me450 or Faaip De Oiad
Goddamn shit the bed
Alex, The fact that you used that insanely beautiful piano piece from “American Beauty” in the background while explaining what Pneuma is about gave me chills. That’s LITERALLY what that movie is all about😳💯
“Luminous beings are we, not this crude matter”- Yoda, 1980
Glad you reacted to Pneuma, it's definitely one of their top 10 best. But there is sooooo much more you've gotta experience. I'd recommend 7empest, but idk if you're ready for that. Definitely check out Eulogy!
Eulogy might be my favorite but there’s so many good ones lol
I love watching people experience tool for the first time and reliving all the same emotions we all went through!
Now you MUST watch the live Pneuma Vic Firth drum cam....you WILL be blown away...
this song is masterpiece, so calm and intensive at the same time, so instrumental experience, i listen to this at least 3 times a day since i knew it about 2 years ago
The word that comes to mind for tools music is esoteric...meaning hidden or intentionally obfuscated...meaning the music itself seems like something that is ancient, once known by many but intentionally hidden or corrupted till that moment you hear the music for the first time. It literally is enlightening
Enlightening is a perfect word to describe tool
Esoteric brotha. Esotericism is the way. People are finally waking up and learning the truth. 🤘🏽♈️
I freaking LOVE this song, more every time I hear it - but honestly I think the Drum Cam video is the best version of it - number one it's a live performance of the song in front of an audience, and the sound is almost identical, but there are things Danny Carey does that you get to see him do that make the song much more impressive from any perspective - the song is clearly a showcase of his skills in the first place, but until you see the video, you don't understand exactly what it is that he's doing, and why it's as exceptional as it is... seeing 2 arms and 2 legs playing 5 parts in 5 different time signatures (both two bass drums and his high hat with 2 feet on 3 pedals - unless he has an extra leg nobody's telling us about). It's no wonder they call him the octopus!
Aside from that, wishing you a swift recovery and a return to flavor - feel better soon Alex!
“Tool lets the music do the talking.” The song is so good that the chorus doesn’t have words, just badass music.
Absolute masterpiece. Nothing else needs to be said.
TOOL is an experience in expression. The guitarist always has just the perfect riff or screech for the moment and rhythm
Danny doesn't just have full limb separation he has full dynamic control over each limb so he can be playing hard with one hand and barely tickling another drum with his left.
The Pink Floyd analyge is spot on. Different sound, same feeling. ✌🇨🇦🇨🇦
Ive heard this song dozens of times. I play music and still cant figure out this beat lol. The time signature is fucking alien
I remember when Alex had less than 20k subs. I thought, just another reactor. But I've followed his channel and reactions close and he is one of the best. I always wonder if he's left rap in the rear view mirror or....
Anyways.... Wishing you Alex and your family a Merry Christmas! Happy Holidays to everyone reading this!
the time signature of this song is insane. it changes like 90 times. It's a pain in the ass to play.
The Last concert i went before covid was Tool on November 2019. First time watching the band live, been a fan since 2000.
I knew It was going to be a very emotional ride for me. But never i thought Pneuma Live would make me have a out of body experience. It was surreal. Crying like a baby.
Hope you get the chance to expierence that Alex.
Man! I love listening to you're lyrical breakdowns!! As a long time Tool fan, you seem to get the fact it's about the lyrics as much as the music! It's helped me get through the loss of my brother and boyfriend last year... Keep them coming ❤
I have no idea how tool reached this level, and this song in particular is out of this world. The most beautiful form of creativity and art is to create something like this
Agreed its amazing
Polyrhythm is actually a lot of fun, and I think more people can do it than realize they can do it. (For instance, playing straight quarter notes as one-TWO-three-one-TWO-three on your left hand, while playing one-TWO-three-FOUR-one-TWO-three-FOUR on your right.) If you just start slow and build up, you can usually get it, and it's a blast when it clicks. If you play instruments that require your different hands to do different things, it's even easier because you've already had practice with it. But yes, the first few times you try it'll melt your brain.
One thing that makes Danny such an amazing musician is that he can play polyrhythms. It's similar to playing a piano. The right hand plays one rhythm while the left plays another. But Danny does it on a level that is mind-blowing. He makes it sound like he's playing two different time signatures! I actually wouldn't put it past him to actually do that, now that I think about it. He's just a genius, like every member of Tool. They are THE intellectual band of the millennium, much like Rush was THE hard rock composers of our time. ALL of them are/were absolute musical geniuses. Once again, AWESOME reaction! Always enjoy watching. And I hope you're feeling better soon.
It is so nice to see your genuine appreciation and excitement for Tool. You understand them. They truly are a musical blessing for the world. May we all learn to let the frequencies and vibrations of music keep humanity Evolving instead of just Revolving.
I think you need to check out Karnivool. Think of them like Aussie Tool. Also very cerebral, their entire 2009 Album Sound Awake is an absolute masterpiece of underratedness. Simple boy, New Day, The Medicine Wears Off, Illumine, Deadman, Change, all of em are absolutely incredible. One of those rare albums where nothing gets skipped.
"Sound Awake" is one of the best prog metal records ever... what a unique mood.
It's such a shame they havent really released new music in a long time... One of the few bands to compete with tool for listening time for me. Sound awake is an awesome album, the close of deadman and change is one of my favourite two song sequences of any album
Yes! Karnivool are awesome, One of My favorite bands for sure. Sound Awake is a true masterpiece
Goliath, Change and Caudal Lure are personal favorites
7:20 - He gets it! Hey guys! This guy gets it! Welcome, my friend.
Yes, I'm 2 years behind on your reaction (and awakening) but I love seeing this happen to new fans of Tool.
I’m surprised it’s taken you this long into the life of the channel to get into Tool, but I’m so glad you have! You take the time to delve into the meanings…..you do your research. It’s a pleasure to hear your thoughts on this music. I will definitely follow your Tool journey! New sub! Now, enjoy the drum cam of Pneuma with us!
Pink Floyd, Tool and The Black keys all make music you feel in your bones and in your soul, I can't help it when they come on
Huge Tool fan here! "Pneuma" is my favorite song; no matter how many times I listen to this song, goosebumps erupt!
I was at a tool show a few years back and I swear Danny’s drum solo tapped into the electrical impulses in my heart and I felt like if he stopped drumming my heart was going to stop.
The live drum cam is unbelievable! I’ve always loved Tool but man, that video gave me a whole new love and understanding of how bad ass Danny actually is.
And FYI, I had COVID in September and I STILL cannot taste or smell. So I hope yours comes back.
I'm a drummer myself not at Danny's level but it's all about timing, feel, accents, groove and coordination. It's something that most non musicians get fascinated by or are awestruck but for drummer's who learn coordination between your hands and feet it becomes second nature. I love how you interpret and try to explain the breakdown section when Danny is playing triplets and the hi hat is playing 4/4 with the rest of the band. BTW great reaction Alex.
Ahhh, yes…the Awakening, Enlightenment…such a beautiful and marvelous experience.
Great song and I love how it's an absolute showcase for Danny. This live Danny Cam version is amazing.
Every Tool reaction video should be done with the lights down. Great video my man.
Alex you definitely have come a long way. The 'fear Inoculum' reaction ( I remember that) well that was totally opposite to this one. Tool army appreciates your journey because tool songs are different they grow gradually. Every time you listen to it ,it's a different journey. Bless you man. Keep shining man 🤟🏼
I absolutely loved what you had to say about their music. Their music definitely sparks a good conversation. Glad you’re finally coming around to the band! Thanks for the content!
Tool is the best of “rock” and beyond just “rock” at the same time
A lot of Pink Floyd, some Mahavishnu Orchestra , alittle King Crimson, the Doors This is The End, and a smattering of Ravi Shankar. So great to hear that 60' 70's psychedelic sound again
I always said that danny carey is a jedi drummer, that just knows through the force what drum needs to be played before it needs to be played.
There is a band from Sweden called “pain of salvation” that has a lot of tool elements. But very unique in their own right. Would love to hear your thoughts on any of their stuff.
he should try and get into more prog stuff I think
Absolutely right about Pink Floyd being the only other band to compare to Tool. Every time I listen to comfortably numb it’s a journey same for shine on you crazy diamond
Release the light
Wake up now child
This is still me listening to tool songs for the 500th time
In ancient times people didn’t understand what air was, so they associated it with the soul/spirit. This was due to the essential nature of air to live. Traditionally people thought a soul entered an infants body with their first breath.
It is the reason you say “bless you” when people sneeze. Because the idea was that your soul was forced from your body, so you bless the person to prevent evil spirits from taking over in the soul’s absence.
It is also the reason distilled alcohol is called “spirits” because of the vapor that you can see evaporating from the container.
The drum cam will rip your eyes open as to the power of Danny and tool as a whole
Hey Alex I’m so glad your listening to Tool. Can you please react to Lateralus.
Finally!! Ive only been trying to get you to react to this song since it came out finally you did it thank you thank you so much Alex
Damn it, Alex! You made me cry. Many Tool (and APC) songs bring tears to my eyes, but hearing you articulate what I cannot. Or, I know something big is happening and I can't quite unboggle my mind to figure it out. And then, the stuff you talked about at the the end. Uuumm....more tears. Anyway, I fully enjoyed listening with you, and listening to your commentary. You HAVE to do the live drum cam video of this. Please and thank you. 😊
Here in Denmark several media won't attend the upcoming concert with this band. The problem is that photographers employed by newspapers must sign that they are wiolling give the rights to the band TOOL. And this means that the person taken the photo can be accused of stealing a image if that person is using his/ hers own image. This has also been mentioned in relation with the Danish band Volbeat.
Alex, hope you feel better soon! Happy Holidays! OMG this song is off tha chain! Can not wait for your Drum Cam reaction!!!
Mike Mangini!!!! Trust Me they're on same level! Different styles. But same skill level! Mike Mangini Live at Luna Park solo
Reaching out to tell you man, I absolutely love your Reactions, especially Tool. Keep it going bra, fan for life.
There is so much more Tool 🔥
This is one of the best reactions I've seen from any reviewer. Got to experience Pneuma for the first time with you. Love Tool!
I can't wait for the drum cam reaction
I’ve missed you breaking down the lyrical content of songs. Watching your Tool reaction’s w breakdowns has been amazing!! Thank you so much!!!
✌🏻💚🤘🏻it’s the only way to fly
Man, I've been following you since before your metal days - when you were doing more hip hop, and I remember you being hesitant about diving into Tool towards the beginning and being bummed about it. Tool is my favorite band and has been for 25+ years. I'm glad to see you giving in to the greatness that is Tool, and I'm also glad you made the Pink Floyd connection (probably my second favorite band), because I feel it is a relevant connection to make.
First next opportunity go see Tool live. Holy crap. Took me twenty years and it was life changing.
Always enjoy your reactions man. Any tool, perfect circle, the mars volta reactions I will definitely be watching. Keep it up. Good shit!
Remember these pandemic years Alex.... Nightwish and Tool.... these are our sanctuaries.
You said something like "how do I go back to other bands when tool have all this depth" mid way through the song. Yeah, pretty much this. I flip to other bands, and I can appreciate multiple genres and styles, but I always seem to come back to tool at some point. The musicianship and lyrical quality is astounding, and although all rock/metal, has so many different styles of song... Your favourite tool song is the one you're listening to.
Gotta do "Jimmy" track about his mother's stroke/permanent paralysis when he was 11yrs old and how he's impelled to find his 11 yr old self and bring him back home. At age 11 he forfeited his childhood in order to care and provide for his mother and him self. A track that doesn't get near enough credit. Pure genius
I'm happy you are enjoying TOOL. For a while, I didn't think you'd ever be interested. But, I see soon, you will become part of the TOOL Army. For that, I subbed. I'm excited to see more.
It’s fun watching Tool drill itself through your skull and into your mind 🙂
I so be y much appreciated this reaction!! Awesomeness!!! And the great at thing about TOOL is that the more that you listen the more you want
I tested positive for Covid last Wednesday. It sucks out loud. Thanks for powering through and continuing to be awesome.
Damn, this is my second reaction video Ive watched on your channel and I gotta just say. Bravo. From the editing, to the personality, to the fluid transition from topic to topic, to your overall general understanding of life in in of itself and the message Tool is tryjng to get across, I applaud you good sir.
Spiral Out.
P.S My first video I watched of yours was the Wings for Marie/10,000 days video lol
love your energy bro, keep at it!
I saw them live when this album was released in 2019. It was amazing! This is one of my favorite songs from them.
I believe you said it perfectly with one word....brilliant......on all levels.
Came here to see a response to Pneuma, ended up being VERY impressed by Alex's discussion of the music and incredible understanding of what Tool is doing with it's Music. Thanks. You have earned a new subscriber.
Always fun to watch you discover new songs. Hope you're feeling okay
Has to be witnessed LIVE....
T00L are a living masterpiece.....
Great reaction###
Feel better man!! Love the vids!
Someone: So how do you like your music?
Me: Tool?
Someone (probs a philosopher idk): so making you question spirituality and life meanings, excellent, shall we discus the futility of life together then?
I think you might be one of the few reviewers who will appreciate and understand Hooker with a Penis from the Aenima album. It's not musically the best song. But it smacks the listener upside the head with a message.
Another good one is to listen to both Parabola and Parabolas from Lateralus.
Totally agree with your pink Floyd reference...its why I love them both sadly never to to see tool play live
Tool is one of the best things in music ever made and will be!
It's the ultimate spiritual message- "Wake up!"
I love how your analysis' of the more complicated songs (Tool in particular) have gotten so granular ! Like sniper round precision :) It's fun to see ! !
PLEASE DO THE DRUM CAM! Watching Danny in action on this song will blow you away 🔥🔥
