      Hi Linor. I went my whole life never having seen footage of Genesis when it was fronted by Peter Gabriel. Then last week I came across this wonderful theatrical performance: "Watcher of The Skies - Genesis | The Midnight Special" ua-cam.com/video/WjYEyENr6c8/v-deo.html. Please consider reacting to it. Thanks, and thanks for all your videos.

    I love how voice experts try to evaluate his singing He is untrained but this is just what makes him so real....He is only concerned for his message...and what he feels..and he is not concerned about longevity. Just his message.

      The Charismatic Voice channel had a fantastic reaction to this song during which she completely agreed that it is the imperfections that convey the emotions of the singer and attracts the audience to connect with the song. She gave an example of opera singers being able to use a "warble" in their voice at just the right time that is not perfect technique but perfect signalling of emotion. Her inferred conclusion was that so long as "Oliver" could manage the signature break in his voice that he should keep it because it is a big part of what makes him authentic and relatable as a singer.

    • @pono801yuli7
      @pono801yuli7 8 місяців тому +1

      Nooo, those imperfections make him good on just this one song.. When he was live doing covers he sounded like pure dog 💩
      He should stick to writing music then selling it to actual singers. Imperfections are okay on a song or two but like a lot of things with singing, it gets old. Like when he constantly drops his voice then brings it back with basically a shout, then all the random noises. You can tell he’s not trained because he’s trying to do what trained singers can do but he’s doing it wrong and if that continues that will cost him.

    • @MandrakeDCR
      @MandrakeDCR 7 місяців тому

      @@pono801yuli7 That's BS. I can agree that he doesn't sound as good on the covers live - he's just started performing live and it's obvious he's still getting the hang of it as well as a side note. However, writing songs and then selling them to other singers who don't give a crap about the message he's trying to get out won't work. It won't be coming from the person truly wanting to convey it. That's the whole reason it's having an impact at all. You yourself are saying it's only okay on a few songs. These kind of songs aren't going to be commercial successes. They are one to three verse songs, most of them 3 minutes or less, structured basically the same. Super simple. It's the message that is resonating, with a reasonable delivery, with a ton of emotion, or they wouldn't be that popular. You'll never be able to fake that emotion just handing out/selling the lyrics. His laid back and fun songs are pretty great and would be good to cover by any good artist for sure, but he also does really well on those. 6 of one, half dozen of the other. Take you pick.

    I don't know if he really has, but I read that he has signed up for vocal lessons. He's very aware and has talked about the fact that he's never had any vocal training and also knows that is probably why it is so relatable, but pitchy, etc. He appears to be extremely intelligent and level headed, and I know there are plenty of 'gritty voice' artists out there that have worked out how to maintain longevity using technique that still allow them to maintain the sound they need. So, I think he can accomplish both with a good coach that would take into account his natural sound, but give him the tools to recreate the same sounds with less or no damage. That's what I hope for him anyway. He deserves it.

On the other hand I do not think I would loose a penny if I bet no only has he never had a voice lesson, but he would not listen to you advise. Sorry. Very few voice coaches will touch this song, so either you were unaware or your are fearless. Most people love his voice and even more love his message. This is why he is so popular. But not all - and that is the ones who will come for those that approve of him. You stayed somewhat neutral, so maybe not you. Songs are meant to move people - and this one does.

    I think you're over analyzing. you're criticizing technique, and basically ignoring the message. Bob Dylan was not a "great" singer, in your mind anyway. And yet, he spoke for a whole generation.
    You're losing sight of that. Criticize his technique all you want, but your criticism is pretty meaningless.

      Waylon Jennings always seemed to project his voice in his studio recordings, in the same way that Oliver Anthony does. If he works to protect his voice, like Waylon Jennings did, Oliver Anthony will have a long, successful Folk music career, and have a successful songwriting career as well.
