So, to clear this up for anybody wondering, I always thought once two basil plants that were different species crossed that the pollen from the new hybrid was no longer present and that it was just nectar producing. But that isn't exactly the case. At least if I'm hearing you correctly. So, I can plant Chaos Theory near other basil plants and the pollen from it can cross, that might explain why I have about 6 or 7 seedlings that look like they might be crossed with it. I had temperate Tulsi growing near it so could it have crossed into those and that might be the seedlings I'm collecting?
Yes the hybrids will definitely produce pollen. What can happen though is the tube the pollen goes down can be deformed resulting in reduced fertility from what I understand. Also basil has some funky stuff going on with the chromosome number which can vary when you hybridize as far as I know.
@@BasicallyaboutBasil That's good to know though. I do have some Chaos Theory planted around some cool basils. Everything that grew from the Linnamon, to the beekeeper, and the 2020 mix all produced plants that have produced seeds. So, I will keep an eye out to see if anything shows up that looks like it might have crossed with the Chaos Theory or may have come directly from it.
